A big thank you. Arriving just on 2 o ' clock as breakfast service ended you were kind enough to serve myself and my son and grandson three excellent breakfasts. Staff were very friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend it if you are passing. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Will make sure to arrive earlier next time, but once again thank you for accommodating us.

We were walking our dogs and got stuck due to flood water. We stopped for a coffee to plan our exit. We then bumped into the owner who was rude, unfriendly and promptly shut gates in our face and offered us no assistance at all. I wish I had not spent my money in his establishment and will never again.

Absolutely disgraceful behaviour by the old hag in the kitchen. I’d forgotten to ask for brown bread for my partner’s breakfast so my partner went up to ask if we could swap, if it wasn’t too late. “Oh for f@&ks sake” was the very loud reply from the grumpy old woman, that I and most of the people that were sat in the garden heard quite clearly. To say we were flabbergasted is an understatement and others seemed to be in complete disbelief as to what had just happened. We immediately cancelled the order and asked for our money back. The spineless manager didn’t even have the decency to come out to apologise on behalf of his vile colleague. (Probably too scared of the cook!!) The young staff members on the till had to apologise. Would not recommend asking for anything unless it’s exactly what they have on the menu as they seem to be offended by trying accommodate their customers needs. Absolutely Shocking !!!

I visited with a friend today as she has never been before. I was telling her how lovely it is to sit by the canal and enjoy a drink after a long walk. I visited lots of times with the previous owner and had a good experience. Today I couldn’t believe the difference. I waited patiently at the hatch to be served and didn’t even ring the bell as I could see the lady was busy. After a while I was acknowledged and told she wouldn’t be long. I waited and waited and waited and after ten minutes and two other people walking away and again being told to bear with her. I explained I just wanted a drink to be told it’s not her fault there’s only two of them! I never saw the other person at all. Is it my fault as a customer that you don’t have the staff you need. Maybe organising someone serving and someone cooking might help. We had walked for miles as an alternative to Jennos only to walk away with nothing. The woman’s rudeness was unbelievable and you lost 3 customers while I was there and others on the tow path that also said they won’t use it due to long waits. I recommended others to visit previously but not now. I also visited a couple of months ago with 3 others and again huge wait and two meals were wrong. We sat by another family that had issues with wrong orders and the time it took. Its ok adding all the extra seating if you have the staff to man it. All you needed to do today was say I’m so sorry take the order and we would have waited but instead you were so rude . I said I would now review to which you said so what and proceeded to criticise me to other’s customers!

I’ve spotted this place a couple of times when looking for a nice canalside location to have a walk and a cuppa. Never thought to venture there….. until today. What an idyllic setting. Sat outside at the rear and watched the horses at play while we enjoyed a bacon and egg cob/batch/roll and then a cream tea. Food was freshly made and the scones were homemade. Plenty of tea to wash it down and reasonably priced. The staff are its greatest asset though, very helpful and friendly. We’ll be back and we told them so. Not only that but we’ll take friends with us next time. Sad to hear that they’d suffered a bit of vandalism the night before though. Very dog friendly too. And if you’re lucky you can do a bit of gongoozling at the locks.

Had a cream scone the other day and that was delicious. The prices are good as it isn't too expensive meaning I can visit often. We visited today, a Sunday afternoon at about 2pm. We ordered bacon and sausage baguettes and cans of drink and we're told there would be a 30 minute wait. We considered ordering something else but then decided half an hour would be ok. It took 45 minutes to get our drinks! And an hour to get our baguettes! By the time we ate we were freezing as we were outside with our dog. I opened the bacon baguette to put sauce on and there was a hair in it. This made me feel sick to be honest, I ate some of the sausage one then we left. We were disappointed with this visit as had been last year and it was pleasant. It was busy but clearly they need more staff, i.e. more than one person in the kitchen?! The waitresses, although nice enough, had no sense of urgency or customer service really. Whilst we were there we noticed everyone was getting annoyed by the long waits, even just for cold drinks! Another table had their order wrong but just accepted it how it was as they couldn't bear to wait any longer for it to be corrected. And a table nearby were told after an hour wait that they had run out! Won't be coming back I'm afraid, we'll just stick to the black horse in future. Shame as it could be really good.

It's not accessible by roads which makes it a really nice relaxing place to go - you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. The cherry scones were amazing, possibly the best I've ever had and the staff were really friendly, all in a lovely setting out in the garden. I've enjoyed visiting the Kings Lock Tearooms many times. Much nicer when the sun is shining so you can sit outside; it feels like you're miles away from anywhere. I highly recommend the cream tea as the scones are home-made and delicious. It's a short walk over a bridge and south along the canal towpath from a small carpark at the end of Marsden Lane and Sanvey Lane. There are many options for different lengths of walks from the southern edge of Aylestone Meadows. It's about an hours' walk along the canalised River Soar from Castle Gardens in the city centre. The owners live in their ex-lock-keepers cottage, and open it up as a tearoom from Good Friday to the October half-term - and then only Thursdays and Fridays 11-4, Saturdays 11-3, and Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays 11-5. Sandwiches, soup, cake, ice cream, teas and coffee are all available - simple, fresh food, served by people who care. And they welcome dogs (and will probably offer a water bowl and dog biscuit).

We visited here today and ordered 5 drinks and 3 mince pies. Everything came out one at a time, about 5 minutes apart with the last drink arriving at our table 35 minutes after we arrived, hence the first 2 drinks to be served had been well and truly polished off by then.I watched my coffee sit for 5 minutes after the 'coffee' button had been pressed, getting cold before it was given to me. It was not that busy either. Very disappointing, dread to think how long food would take, shall not be returning.
