Brilliant atmosphere very friendly staff who went that extra mile to help. Food tasted amazing rump steak chips, and the massive burger meal. We were seated near the old fireplace where the creepy box was rested in fireplace.Never read reviews beforehand so did not realise the pub was one of the most haunted and yes it is. What I would like to say your pub Inn is very active as I felt temperatures change to where we were seated. No draft from fireplace. A male ghost/spirit who was very active in the far right corner turning one of the wooden hearts that hung from ceiling clockwise and anticlockwise I was watching alot of activity there. Next time I am in Chester I will visit again. So if you want a nice meal in a very old Inn this is the place to visit.

Spent an amazing night here on an Investigation, and wow it was such an amazing night. 1) we got to Pub for around. 5pm and was greeted by the staff who where friendly and directed to the function room where we could place our bags. We was met by Brett in the function room and spent some time out of his busy schedule getting ready for the Halloween party the next day to talk to us. 2) The food.... all I can say is go there and try it, amazing food, and such a cozy atmosphere in the bar. 3) the event itself was incredible 😲 if you have any reserves about going, just do it you won't be disappointed. Over I have what was properly other best time I have had in long time.

I just love this place. One of the oldest pubs in England…you just have to stop in. If you fancy some food I can highly recommend the pies. The steak pie is amazing, with a proper lard crusty pastry. Simply unctuous, and make sure you order mash and gravy with it. The pate was good, but more like a terrine, but still tasty. Come on in for a bit of history, and great pint and pie!!!

Came in here for a couple of drinks on a short stay for my partner's birthday. Very eerie atmosphere but well worth goin in Chesters most haunted pub. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Would highly recommend goin for a drink, especially at night.

Obviously I came here because of the reputation of being Britain's most haunted building and I certainly felt like it was but I am thoroughly surprised by how nice the pub is, their menu is small but it's all delicious pub grub, I personally recommend the cherry and berry old mout cider, brilliant stuff, first time drinking it there!

We went in the downstairs bar and did not stay at the end. Cará was behind the bar, and she suggested that we try the beef pie with chips. Absolutely delicious and great service!

A haunting experience! The bar staff were great, it was very dark, there was a classic portrait of Henry VIII on the wall by our table.

Very busy when we went, fortunately we had booked. Noisy atmosphere reduced the group enjoyment. Food acceptable but not exceptional although still good value for money. Would still recommend and return for another meal

Popped in for a pizza for the children. We found the gent that served us at the till to be unnecessarily very rude. We were thinking of just walking out but had paid for food and just wanted to get our children home, some supper to shut them up, then bed after a drive in the car to knacker them out. The children were in the car BTW. Thought it was just us he was being rude to, but then he did the same with a regular, as he knew him by name. So that's two customers being polite and just ordering food but being disrespected. God only knows how the rest of the night went. On a street full of takeaways, it takes a brave shop to be rude to customers without reason. The food was fine, but personally, we prefer to be spoken to with the same respect we speak to people with. Manners cost nothing. Can't be good for business in our books. Amusingly, he did try to come across as a "rocky robin" type - I am hard. We did giggle at that. He was a pip squeek, and we were embarrassed for him. We just assumed they must have trouble at the shop. We collected our food, got back to our car, and concluded, "What a total lightweight, cocky, and overly-confident prat. Lets not go back there!". We will not give them more business. It's too awkward, embarrassing, and totally cringe. We did well to hold our tongues, but we could see that the regular customer was furious and holding back too. For a moment, we thought the regular was going to plant the guy one as he was twice his size and didn't look like someone to mess with. He seemed taken back. Tbh, so were we. Note to the business. Be polite to your customers. They do, after all, keep you in business.
