Mowgli Street Food in Cheshire West and Chester

Following positive reviews, we dined at Mowgli, but found the experience underwhelming. The food quality did not justify the high prices; portions were small, necessitating three dishes per person, and the overall taste was merely adequate, falling short of expectations. The value proposition was poor, particularly considering the cost of beverages. A 330ml beer priced at £5.50 is excessive. While the ambiance and window seating were pleasant, we concluded that the culinary experience was mediocre and would not return.

Beautiful food served in a lively restaurant. Perfect for a quick meal whilst shopping. Food comes as and when it's ready which means it's hot and you can all dip into one anothers dishes.

Food was delicious and extensive menu. Good vegetarian and vegan options available. Very descriptive menu( and acurate). Food served quickly, fresh and hot. Service was great, we had a very pleasant, cheerful and engaging young man, ( jonathon) who wasn't overly intrusive and gave great menu advice. Lovely decor with swing seats and plenty of seating. It's great that you don't have to book, just turn up. Would definately recommend.

- asked which were ‘starters’ as was not made clear on the menu and then food did not come at the same time. (half of our table sat without food and confused those of us with food left it to go cold as we thought the other meals would come soon) - system was not explained properly and neither was the menu when we asked - felt like we were taken advantage of as we were new to the restaurant - asked about portion sizes and 2-3 plates was recommended but portion was tiny - told any added expenses (service charge) (donation) was a choice but then made us feel awful so we paid it. - food was mid quality so so disappointed as nearly £100 paid for the whole thing. went to mcdonald’s after and enjoyed my £2 ice cream more

Absolutely disgusting the food was not edible the roti was frozen reheated and the cheestoastie 🤣

First visit this week. Really enjoyed the experience from start to finish. Chose the £25 sharing menu . Delicious. Jonathan our waiter was very attentive and explained the menu to us. We will be back. Chat bombs amazing!

The service was excellent and quick. The swing seats were something different, but the food was overpriced and nothing special, we were quite disappointed actually.

Would have been 5 Stars all round, food and staff were amazing but the gents toilet was dirty with leaking urinals 🤢

Review of Mowgli Restaurant, Cheshire Oaks, Chester** Indian dining experience at Mowgli Restaurant (Chester, Cheshire Oaks) was a very disappointing experience. It claims to be an "Indian restaurant", but the name of everything on the menu is written in English, while the ingredients are a jumble of Hindi/Indian names. For example, if you are looking for "aloo ki sabzi" or "roti", these are presented under some strange English name in the menu, which leads to confusion while ordering. Perhaps they have not even heard the names of real Indian dishes! We chose the £25 menu, but were surprised by what was served—just potatoes on potatoes! Potato chips, dry potato curry, and roti stuffed with potatoes... it all seemed like a mockery of "Indian taste". The taste also seemed completely bland and marketable. Money wise it was not worth it at all. When we asked the staff the real names of the dishes, they did not understand. It seems that there is no understanding of Indian food here, just "fusion" is going on in the name. If you want the real aroma and taste of Indian food, stay away from Mowgli. Here you will find only confusion and a pile of potatoes! **Summary:** Expensive, confusing menu, and tasteless food. Disappointment is guaranteed!

Went for the first time today with my girlfriend and family and I can honestly say it was an amazing time

Such a lovely atmosphere, the food was fantastic and was served very quickly. The manager David took the time to make recommendations for us and couldn't have been more helpful. Would definitely recommend.

Mowgli is our favourite restaurant in Cheshire Oaks. The food, staff, decor and service is always 10/10. We are never disappointed! Isla served us last night, she was friendly, polite and professional. She gave us recommendations and checked to see how it tasted which was beautiful. I ve been here with my family for a lunch,the staff has been really friendly,the location is beautiful presented,even if a bit dusty. We ve ordered the set menu for 2 and has been served quiete quickly but I ve been really disappointed from the quality of the food compared to the price,you only get 2 chicken curry some rice and a vegetable curry with 2 sides(both with the same sauce,pretty similar tastes) and was not really tasty too.. I wouldn't come back

They’ve set it up well. Like the swings and golden lights. The staff are rude and arrogant. They pass comms on paying customers and can be clearly seen gossiping. The food could be better. Bland dishes, and the rice had a really bad taste/ odour! Still paid service charges etc., but it was not worth it.

Fantastic food, great service from lovely waitresses, and somewhere different for a change. Waiting in the cold wasn't too long and once inside everything was really quick.

Nice restaurant in the outlet center. Mowgli is very nicely decorated, great atmosphere. The menu is extensive, we chose the butter chicken with rice and roti. It was very tasty, very spicy. The portion wasn't overly large; if I was really hungry I wouldn't have been full. Service friendly, but could have been more attentive.

They take 1:30 hours to bring food 😐🤦🏽

Great place to eat if you are at Cheshire Oaks. Has glad options to eat and drink The set up is great The service is quick and the staff is amazing The food is decent but not spicy enough for an Indian 😅 Would recommend

Lovely food yet again here. This is a firm favourite of our family. I love love love the chip butty and angry bird, so delicious, tangy and just the right size portions. Highly recommended

This was by far the worst curry/dishes I've ever had. £90 for 3 small mains 2 starters and 3 fizzy drinks. They all tasted pre made like microwaved. One of the mains had half a cube of chicken and the rest potato ( it was a meat dish). I've been shafted by this establishment what a mess and then to top it all off you have some speech to say the 10% service change is optional but they make you feel bad so you pay it. By far the worst curry I've ever had ! This won't be around in 10 years. Absolutely rubbish.

If you like authentic Indian... you won't like it. Sweet, overpriced dishes. Avoid

We waited about 15 minutes for a atble, but we knew it was going to be worth our while, especially with other local Mowglis being fully booked we took the chance. The staff were friendly, attentive and chatty despite the restaurant being full. We ordered the Office Tiffin, however, we didn't expect a vegan dish to come out, with being allergic to Quorn, I spoke with staff and they were so attentive and supportive and offered another dish incase I had an allergic reaction ( its not worth taking the risk over). The food was phenomenal, the atmosphere was great, I couldn't fault our time at Mowglo tonight. This is our second visit to this particular restaurant and it's become our favourite. Thanks for a special night, it's very rare we have a child free night 🥰

Visited in December to meet friends then bought family in January to try it. Really lovely place. Great atmosphere. We liked the food for the table menu, got this both visits, and they accommodate well for small changes such as vegetarian or dairy intolerant in the group. Will definitely visit again soon. It is also dog friendly.

Wonderful food, great service and great ambience!

Good service. However quality not on par with other mowglis. Rice had a chewy quality. When asked for fresh rice, the rice wasn't any better and probably from the same batch. Both gunpowder chicken and chat bombs (our favourites) were underwhelming, like some of the fancier ingredients had been paired back. Rice wasn't taken off bill. I also slightly resent that they put the 10% service charge on after the £1 charity donation, meaning they make 10p for every time someone donates to charity unless you ask them to remove it... which obviously no one does.

Always a great meal. Nice staff, fab food and quick service.

I absolutely adore coming here for food, the staff are absolutely lovely and the food is always spectacular- as are the Mocktails!

We were sat down and waited for quite a while before being asked if we wanted to order a drink. There were people working there talking and laughing amongst each other rather than paying attention to customers. The menu was not explained to us so we didn’t realise that the food comes out when it is cooked so we ate one dish with all the rice and bread then when we were nearly finished another dish came out but we had eaten all the sides. It should have really been explained. The food was really good and the place is beautiful with all the twinkly lights…. Staff need to be on the ball and attentive and explain

Food is tasty. Prices are a little ridiculous though for what you get.

Amazing food with great service & atmosphere

Awful experience (again) on Friday evening, we chalked our previous negative experience down to a one off, but our most recent visit was even worse. Beautiful setting, beautiful food, completely ruined by the blasting cheesy pop music that does not fit the theme whatsoever. We ordered our starters whilst listening to ‘it’s raining men’ at full blast, to then eat them listening to Taylor Swift. All while a child is running around screaming and hitting people, staff completely content allowing it to continue. We did not stay for our mains, that’s two visits in two weeks equally as awful. Highly recommend people stay away from the Cheshire Oaks location, Liverpool is much better.

Good dining experience. Deco, ambience and staff are of high standards. Special offer for two, including drinks is a very good value for money, allowing to test a variety of different types of dishes. Food is very tasty. The place was very busy when we attended but staff seem to be very well organised and we didn't have to wait long to be seated and served.

First visit here, grandson recommended it. Really enjoyed the food, great service etc.. Lots of menu choices. Very busy but didn't feel crowded. Swing seats a great novelty but not for me with my bad back. Plenty of tables and chairs available for those not as adventurous.

This is a lovely Mowgli restaurant. I prefer this one to Birmingham. Staff are attentive and welcoming. Food delicious. Great place. However, you can't pre book. Around lunchtime, always a queue. But it's worth the wait

Only atmosphere. You can get 150% better tasty food with half of this price. Quantity is very less. If you are a good North Indian food lover I will not suggest. long Q always on weekends (I visited weekends ). Masala tea 300% waste.

I tried office tiffin box and everything was sweet and I think its not anymore an Indian restaurant. Masala chai is not good.

We had a lovely meal here. The atmosphere was relaxed and cosy, we loved the fairy lights and swing seats. The wait staff were friendly and although we had to wait outside, it didn’t take long and there were also heaters to keep us warm. The highlight was of course the food. Every dish was a flavour explosion in your mouth. Me and my wife decided to order a few little bits to share and it was definitely the best way to experience the different foods the menu has to offer.

Beautiful place with fabulous food

As a Indian i can say it didn’t meet my standards, the food wasn’t even close to Indian food. I really liked atmosphere and staff, absolutely loved it. But i am really disappointed with food. I ordered lamb and butter chicken which basically tastes blind with no Indian flavour, i mean our main spices. curry tasted like some sort of fusion soup with chicken and lamb. Very very poor taste and as a Indian i am so disappointed that Mowgli represented my country cuisine in absolutely wrong way.

We thought the food was excellent, but I'd describe the service from the staff as inattentive. The 10% service charge is excessive, and a tip should be a gesture from the customer rather than automatically taken. Why would members of staff give good service when they know a substantial tip is being automatically taken?

A bit hit and miss this but that is entirely our fault. First visit we had the shared mix. We loved all of the dishes and went back a couple of weeks later and ordered the shared mix again. Unbeknown to us the dishes are random and on the 2nd visit we didn't like most of the dishes. If you know what you like it's no problem at all. Just be aware that the shared mix is random and changes daily.

Fab staff, really really nice staff, real asset. Food was spot on, restaurant was clean and comfortable. Friday 22nd Nov afternoon.

Had to que to get in which is unusual and was skeptical as to why - was not expecting the food and value for money to speak for itself so loudly! My fiancé had been before and it was worth the wait. I like to play the game of guess the bill and try to put a £figure against the value of the meal - all in, food drinks service and charity donation i estimated ~£85 … was only £65 - over the moon and more than value for money! The food itself was outstanding - although the sticky chicken was tad sweet for what I expected, the lentils could have been cooked longer to create a creamier dish - but the rest was sublime! Lamb curry was out of this world, the slaw was an excellent accompaniment and the lentils (aside the previous comment) was well balanced and very good! Service was perfectly fine in a Very busy lunch service, but I really enjoy an attentive server and one willing to build a (albeit temporary) relationship. Overall very very good and well worth a visit! Will be back for sure

Amazing food literally Amazing service is top notch even explaining how to eat some of the delicacies (chat bombs are out of this world) usually very busy expect to queue at weekends. Everyone wants a swing seat ! Try a little bit of everything if your with friends cannot recommend enough

Today attempted to have lunch in Mowgli, for ths first time. First impressions were excellent, swungs looked interesting , lovely lights egc. The young lady who showed me to my seat was smiley and I asked for a recommendation.I spscifically said that chilly made me ill, due to numerous stomach complications. She suggested the sticky chicken . When it arrived, it was covered in chillies , both red and green. The replacement chicken took 15 minutes as the place was getting full. There were plenty of apologies, however, I had worked my timings out carefully!

The prices are different on the menu and different on the payment. £38 payment on the menu, £42 charge. Realized after. Be careful!!!

Portions are smaller than expected

This is my new favourite restaurant. The most authentic, tasty Indian food I have eaten outside of India.

Food is so MID! There’s no balance to the spices they’ve just loaded random things in. There’s no compliments to the flavours of the food, it’s either bland or super overbearing. No one likes cinnamon chicken when that isn’t what they’ve ordered. The decor is the only saving grace but you can tell that’s where the money has gone. Service is ok, no complaints there. Staff seem a bit overworked though given the footfall due to location

They look for a quick turnaround, food is great, cookery books are fab but portions are small. Often a queue outside to get in.

Fantastic food and the best place for food at Cheshire oaks

Having to write this review while still waiting for our food as im actually quite annoyed with the lack of accomodation to a simple request. Ordered the lamb chops and wanted to swap the fen fries for the treacle fries and pay the xtra £1. Asked the waitress and she said no. We asked her to ask the manager and he said no. Such a simple request and such a silly and unprofesssional denial. Very disappointing. Lets hope the food when it comes is worth it….🤞🏼
