French onion soup for starters was good. Main course was roast chicken Sunday lunch which was barely average. Chicken needed longer. Parsnips were grossly undercooked and hard. Beef gravy with chicken served! Roast potatoes were cheap frozen packet ones. Grossly over priced. The dessert of sticky toffee pudding was nice. Service quick. Pub interior nice. The staff were nice. Bill was horrendously expensive. A one off visit!

Starting with the positives, lovely staff, very friendly and attentive, the pub / restaurant is pleasant, well laid out and it was busy both times we had lunch in there, Saturday and Sunday. On the Saturday we ordered from the lunchtime menu, food was nice but portions very small, in fairness it does state on the menu that they are lunchtime portions however can’t consider the food value for money due to the amount of food served, on the Sunday portions much better but number of roast potatoes with the Sunday roast was disappointing, we also had a problem with the beef dishes, the meat was shocking , we did complain straight away and staff dealt with it very well and replaced with alternative, probably did enough to make us try it again.

I thought long and hard before writing this review as I will always write a good review or a thank someone and I always hesitate to leave a poor review. This Sunday lunch was just so appalling that I felt I had no choice. My friend had the bunnernut squash wellington and said it was "OK" but was surprised it was served with gravy, yorks pud and vegs. I elected to have the roast chicken which was said to some with vegs, Yorks pud, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, lemon & tarragon stuffing, bread sauce. The plate arrived and the gloopy, set at the edges (!), plastic gravy tasted only of salt. Green beans OK, carrot (just one slice) was the only nice thing on the plate. Chicken was dry when the slimy skin was removed; the parsnip was too hard to even get a fork or knife in to try and cut it; the school-dinner-cabbage was overcooked and drowned in said gloopy gravy and the slab of stuffing was simply a piece of sausage-meat with not a hint of lemon or tarragon. Oh, and the pig(s) in (a) blanket(s) was a nub-end of (probably the same) pork sausage with a sliver of partially cooked bacon half wrapped around it. The Yorks pud was slimy in the centre. And then I noticed ..... there was no bread sauce and there were no roast potatoes on my plate. Our waitress (who was a very pleasant young girl) happened to pass at this point so I mentioned that I was missing potatoes and bread sauce (I didn't mention anything else) and asked for the bread sauce and not to worry about the potatoes. She apologised and went to the kitchen. Some ten minutes (!) later when I had finished just about anything that was vaguely edible, she arrived with a pot of white lumps. Now I love packet bread sauce and fresh bread sauce and I am really not a fussy eater but this was a new one on me. I managed some of it to show willing. When we used to eat at the Kings Head Tara masterminded things and her son was the chef and he was a great chef. I don't know who is in the kitchen now but he/she most certainly should be nowhere near a kitchen. There was no goodwill gesture of apology (or any verbal apology) on paying the bill. Am sorry Tara but , certainly until you get back and change your chef, we will not be dining at the Kings Head again.

Well what can I say. First time I've been here Bearing in mind I only live a few miles away from the King's head. We came here lunchtime we chose the lunchtime meal deal menu for that you get a drink and a main meal for £12. We chose Ham egg & chips, absolutely fantastic two large slices of Gammon ham one fried egg and a nice size portion of chips. Unbelievable value for the money and really good as well . I would highly recommend you coming here. This is our first time but certainly won't be our last.

Have had a couple of very good meals here, including a Sunday lunch, and it's generally friendly and decent. Bit variable, though. Quick lunch deal today saw good food and friendly service at a reasonable price. Lunch some time ago was a bit of a miss, though - fish and chips was all greasy batter and not much fish, with the fish all very overcooked (we had both an adult and a children's portion, and the child in question loves fish and chips, but declared this one inedible). Chicken burger was better, but was also rather overcooked and dry, and would have benefitted from half the amount of coleslaw and the addition of some other green salad or similar. Also had to wait an awfully long time for food (well over an hour after we walked in, despite two young children in tow). Maybe they were having an off day in the kitchen.

Have had a couple of meals here now and have come away happy, and full. Around Christmas time, I had one of the best mushrooms dishes I’ve ever tried - I think it was a suet pudding, and to my heartbreak I was told I can’t buy it anywhere else because it’s homemade. We live 3 hours away 🥲 Recently we had a family lunch and tried a few smaller dishes, all of which were good though it started to get quite salty towards the end of the meal. French Onion Soup, yum! Tempura Veg, very nice and tasty but a bit salty. Tater Tots, great. The young people had Chicken Strips, Pork Belly, Hummus - all happy with that. My partner had the Ploughman’s and we were disappointed with this due to the lack of cheese variety (just cheddar) and generally it was ok, but nothing special and it easily could be. Would happily come again.

There's not loads of choice in Hadleigh but we won't be returning here. Service with a smile so no complaints there, but the food was pretty poor. Pie was just very thick pie crust with hardly any filling, was served two whole halves of carrot either cooked in vinegar or maybe it was just sour so had gone off! Fish was completely tasteless with thick bland oily batter. Chips were absolutely horrid, dry and burnt and no one on the table liked their chips. Don't charge reasonable to high-ish prices if the quality of your food doesn't match it!

We visited with neighbours, a local venue for us but sadly we wouldn’t rush back. The food, when it arrived was good but the service was very slow. We booked and arrived for 1 pm, eventually our order was taken and we waited 50 mins for our meals. We had to ask for the desert menu, my husband ordered the cheese and at £10.50 it was 3 very small pieces of cheese and a few crackers!! We did give it back to the waitress and said that no way was this a £10.50 cheeseboard. They did take it away, add more cheese and some pickle. One of our group requested cream for her coffee….. sorry we have no cream. The waiting staff were helpful but apparently understaffed for the amount of diners.

A very pleasant experience was had on the last day of our holiday when we visited the Kings Head for an early evening meal. The quality of food was very good and it rounded off a lovely week in Suffolk. The staff were very friendly (albeit that I do wish we weren't continually addressed as 'guys'......my wife and I are over 60; I'm sure that they could come up with something different). Nevertheless, it didn't detract from enjoying a 3 course meal. Thank you all at the King's Head.

The sunday lunch was mediocre. it reminded me of a poor school dinner. The chicken was dry everything was covered in gravy which tasted of little but salt. The roast potatoes were not crispy just swimming in the brown glup. The pictures on their website look great but the food is nothing like you see. My sticky toffee pudding was over microwaved so the bowl it came in was red hot the the pudding sat in a bubbling lava of sauce too hot to eat and by the time it had cooled enough the icecream had melted. The teenage staff were nice and friendly but lacked experience so everything ran very slow. We arrived at 1pm and finally were served our meal at 2.30. Having run and cooked in a restaurant for many years I'm not inexperienced in this trade. serving good tasy food is not hard. When many pubs now produce great food it was very disappointing to be let down by this one

The worst Sunday roast I have ever had. Whilst eating out I'm used to the roast beef being pink, however here it was over cooked and very dry, thankfully there was gravy to make it more bearable. Although they ate ok the parsnips were hard to cut. The rest of my group were polite and said they didn't have an issue, however afterwards they did make comments that the quality was poor. We also had a long wait for the main and dessert courses, but this can be excused as it was Father's Day. The staff were very friendly, polite and pleasant.

Lovely place to visit for a lunch. We took advantage of a deal for £12, this included a drink and light bite. I had fish and chips. Wow just lovely! A good plate including mushy peas, homemade tartare sauce. My other half enjoyed a fish finger sandwich in a baguette. Actually it was a large piece of fish! We finished off with the morello cherry sundae with coconut icecream! Divine! All in all a great place to eat, was busy with customers, great service, beautiful old interior with beams, lovely bar and the toilets were clean, with sanitary items available, hand wash and hand cream along with baby changing facilities. Super place, I’ll definitely return again. Many thanks. A pleasure to visit.

Four of us went for dinner. We decided to have the four sharing starters and a main. The sharing starters were very substandard - sechuan chicken wings were only just cooked chicken wings that someone had literally thrown a bit of bbq sauce and some uncooked sesame seeds on. Houmous and flatbread - the flatbread was a shop bought tortilla wrap that someone had put in a frying pan. Chicken and ham hock pie, anemic and barely cooked, that actually had no ham in it. Parsnips so hard you couldn’t get a knife through them - literally inedible. Sirloin steaks horrible texture. The service was attentive and we made them aware of the poor food, but all we got was “I’m sorry, the chef is really disappointed. Anyway, here’s the full bill” Expensive. Price not justified. Food objectively not nice. Recommend for drink's only!

Avoid at all costs. We visited on a Sunday, so ordered the Sunday roast, comprising roast chicken, stuffing, bread sauce & veg for £18. It was disgusting. Barely warm, chicken was breastless - we got four legs. Veg in particular the parsnips were like leather, gravy lumpy, no bread sauce despite being on the menu as part of the meal, I could go on. During the meal, the waitress came and asked if all was OK. We said no and highlighting the issues. She just nodded and walked away. Did not see anyone else. Came to pay expecting my complaint to be taken seriously, no they just wanted paying in full and blaming me for not letting them know of my dissatisfaction!!!! You can see by my review history, dating back to 2012 that I have eaten in quite a few places and in my worldly travels I would rate this as one on the worst.

Disappointing experience today, what was meant to be a light bite (nibbles and sharing platter) ended up costing over £90 for 3 people , which was very expensive for what we received. Unfortunately elements of dishes were sold out and we were only informed when the dish was served up, bread was stale, hummus was sold out and the replacement vegetarian option for the sharing platter that was suggested to us ended up costing us an additional £10 which was not made clear beforehand. Wine options are also very expensive with a basic pinot being charged at £30. The staff were very nice but I think they are much nicer and better value places to eat locally.

We've visited the King's Head several times and our experiences have ranged from very good to distinctly underwhelming. We went again yesterday evening and were looking forward to a good meal in pleasant surroundings. We were seated and served drinks efficiently... the staff are great! Sadly, there was a group of very loud people next to us... which we accept the venue couldn't really do anything about... nothing outrageous or rude just disturbing. So much so that when that group left, ourselves and four of the remaining tables all commented with wry smiles what a relief that was and how much quieter it had suddenly become! Anyway, on to the food, we had starters which were fine, mains of trout and Aberdeen Angus Sirloin steak. The trout came without sauté potatoes, boiled being substituted without telling us. The 'buttered greens' consisted of three small sprigs of tenderstem brocoli. My steak, whilst well cooked as I ordered to medium-rare, was thin, underseasoned and lacking in flavour. I was expecting rather more from a dish costing £31! As mentioned before, this does fit with a pattern of some inconsistency in the food quality. We do so want to love and support the King's Head, it isn't easy to run a good local restaurant these days, but we do hope that all the food could be elevated to the standard that we know the kitchen can produce at times. We will be back but this can't be our 'go to' place, as we would like it to be, until the consistency improves. We really hope it will.

I have been many times to the Kings Head and every time I do it’s like a brand new experience for my taste buds yet familiar at the same time. The place over the past 5years has been on a constant up in food, service and atmosphere. Recently had lunch with a friend and exchanged stories with an old gentleman who sat and ate next to us and while we were enjoying our meals, the Waitress was very polite to us and welcoming, even had a bit of a laugh with us which shows the moral that is within the building is high. Couldn’t recommend a better place to dine in the area!

I was so looking forward to this, my colleague’s 50th, they all said it was the best pub in Hadleigh. The service was excellent and the atmosphere pleasant. The menu looked good and I ordered a large fish and chips with minted garden peas. My colleague’s orders came out and they looked great, then mine came. If this was large I dread to think what small is. The batter was over cooked, it was chestnut brown colour, the fish was a mackerel colour and it wasn’t much bigger than a fish finger. The chips, all twelve of them were hidden underneath it, with a tablespoon of mushy peas. Why didn’t I complain then? Well I hate complaining and it would have spoilt my colleagues birthday. So disappointing and I had been considering returning for Mother’s Day. Perhaps it was a one off, I’ll try them again when I’m in the area.

I Have anaphylaxis reactions to gluten. I’ve eaten here before and have been very happy with the food and service. However, I explained my serious gluten allergy to the waitress on arrival and she duly gave me a gluten free menu. I asked for a tomato juice to drink and was brought what looked like tomato. On tasting it clearly had spices and other ingredients. Fortunately I did no more than taste the drink. On enquiring at the bar I discovered that it was a tomato based drink and included barley products. I tried to explain to the woman in charge behind the bar that this error had the potential to cause me serious harm or even kill me. She would have none of it, not even accepting that id been served a drink I hadn’t asked for. She then became aggressive, one of her friends at the bar then joined in telling me rudely and ignorantly that I didn’t know what I was talking about. The “ landlady” then abusively told me to leave. Which I was very happy to do. All I wanted to do was to explain to her how her error could have serious consequences. Staff training is seriously in need here. Fortunately I had no more of a reaction than a swollen lip.

The staff are super friendly but professional a the same time. I have tried a wide range of their food from starter to mains to even the desserts. The starts are so nice and very filling for when you only want something light and they come with a great deal with any 4 for £24. The mains course are to die for, I've always gone for something different each time because I never know what to order. The dessert is always the same for me 'crumble' which also changes from a berry an to a apple and rhubarb. Highly recommended!!!

The King's Head is a fine asset to Hadleigh under Tara's leadership & it was great to see the place buzzing today (Sunday 230 lunch booking). We enjoy visiting & eating here. Therefore sorry & disappointed they dropped the ball today with the cooking & service we received. - our first drinks (a glass of water & a bottle of beer) arrived nearly 15 minutes after we ordered them. - about ten minutes later we had to prompt our waitress (very pleasant young lady) to take our food order. - after another long wait we had to ask the waitress when our food was going to arrive. It turned up at around 1515 - 45mins after we sat down. - they'd run out of roast beef (!) so I ordered the short rib - far too tough & only about three mouthfuls. The side of pigs in blankets was undercooked, as were the peas in their shells. - the greens with my wife's trout (well cooked) were swimming in way too much butter. The dish was meant to come with prawns, but didn't. I mentioned this to the manageress who apologised & explained that our waitress was new & they'd had far more covers than expected. Maybe the extra numbers shouldn't have been a surprise on a half-term Sunday lunchtime? We'll give the place another try & hope things improve next time.

The interior has been tastefully refurbished and has a warm atmosphere however it feels like the decor has come at the expense of providing quality food. We elected for basic meals such as burgers and fish but they were exactly that, basic. The burger was literally that with chips with nothing more so looked lost on the plate. We expected the asian slaw to be side dish but it wasn't much more than a light addition to the burger. It might be OK for a lunch / snack but we won't be hurrying back.

Great for Sunday roast - extra pigs in blankets and cauli cheese went down a treat. Great selection of wines and beers. Dog friendly in all parts of the pub. Really great service - everyone was very friendly

We had an absolute delightful delicious Sunday lunch. Even with limited staff on duty, we were attended to extremely well. Quality of food was spot on. I'd highly recommend a visit to this beautiful high street pub.

Despite a very warm welcome, and inviting decor, our lunch was very disappointing. The food was bland, and poorly presented (three lettuce leafs for salad/decoration with our meals). There are some great pubs out there serving excellent food that make us return time and time again. This wasn't one of them. Overall a disappointing and expensive experience.

Beer was normal priced but wow the cost of the wine was eye watering! £34 for 2 pints, 1 bottle of cider and I large glass of wine and 2 packets of crisps! We sat out in the beer garden which was sunny and very pleasant

This pub is a great asset to this town. All was good food and service. The kings head team are always happy, friendly and professional. Jordon and Tara run a fantastic pub. Highly recommend a visit 😁

Unfortunately the beef was thinner than wafer thin, cold, grisly and fatty. We couldn't cut the brocoli with a knife or stab it with a fork and the Yorkshire puds came out of a bag. Very disappointed. We won't be returning.

Second light lunch since latest change of management. Second disappointment. We moved to Hadleigh in June 2021. We had lunch in this pub several times whilst house-hunting in 2019/20/21 and were always happy. Likewise, when we arrived in Hadleigh, we often brought friends here when they visited. Since the latest change in management, the food is very poor, and the drinks are far too expensive. If you want to charge top prices, you'll have to provide good quality food and service. AND, if you hear criticism when you ask if the food is alright, DO something about it. You won't be lasting too much longer unless you sharpen up your act. Hadleigh is a small place, and the local population will vote with their feet. Shame. We need a really good, reliable pub in the centre of town and I’m sure it would be very well used if you up your game somewhat. Hoping, and looking forward to seeing improvement.

Great pub. We went to Hadleigh for a walk and decided to stop here for a drink. Ended up having lunch in their beer garden which is beautiful. The food was amazing. We had fish and chips and the pie and were very impressed.

This establishment is currently CLOSED. No sign yet of new owners: nothing but rumours! Hopefully a new venture can bring it back to what it was 20 years ago.
