Management here reminds me of the England squad. Poor. Staff looked on edge around her and I can say the drinks suffered from it. Me and my wife were not impressed. We'd been informed from others that service at this poor excuse of a tea room was shocking and I can now say I heed that advice.

Following on from my earlier review I would just like to re-iterate what a lovely relaxing place this is for breakfast and brunch the girls waiting on are so friendly and service is excellent as are the food and drinks. Best tea/coffee and toasted teacakes in town!! The lady owner is so nice and pleasant and cannot do enough for you to ensure your visit is enjoyable

Atmosphere and service are poor. The manager seems tense and ready to strike at any given moment with both customers and staff. After reading the reviews I can clearly see that others feel the same. The coffee was bitter, but was put off asking for more sugar due to the attitude of the manager. Wanted to leave straight away! Overall I'd say you can find better places cheaper and nicer!

Not sure what the food was like today at the King's Garden tea rooms as we where asked to move with my disabled child as his wheel was on the grass I did point out other people where. She pointed to a cold corner for us to move to (there was 6 of us) I then pointed to an empty table in the middle In the sun but she said it was I n the walk way? I left. I wouldnt point this out if this was the first time it has happened and was told by a family it had happened to them to with a boy in a wheelchair! Really think in this day and age discrimination should not be a part of our lives!

I’m not usually one to write a bad review especially on a local business, but wow the customer service/experience was shocking by the manager. The way I was spoken to was appalling, even her staff looked shocked. I visited to order 2 coffee’s and have a rest whilst walking with my 2 sons and dog, but because we bought a couple of ice creams on route she wouldn’t let us sit on the premises. In her words “we are not a charity, we are trying to run a business”. Not very well it seems, you lost my business!

The owner was very rude. Made to feel very uncomfortable! Poor service, atmosphere wasn't very nice either. Won't be going again. Wouldn't give any stars as the service was that bad!!

Fantastic spot. The food and the cakes in particular are fresh, well made and reasonable value. Diane and her team are so friendly and efficient, the place is spotless. The whole Kings Garden area is so lucky to have them. To be honest I would say to the people who have made the hostile comments "treat others the way you want to be treated". I have seen some of the rude people who occasionally visit the cafe and they want to look at themselves first

I honestly don’t know how you cope and all stay so polite with such ridiculously loopy and rude day trippers abusing you. We were sitting today enjoying our lunch in the sunshine when we witnessed so many people wanting free toilets, free tap water, people with donuts thinking it’s ok to take up one of your tables. Well every time we stay in Southport we come to you even if we have to queue. The dog actually drags us here he loves you so much. Theres nowhere better for fresh quality food and great coffee around there. I suppose in summer for every polite customer with manners you get 2 rough people with serious rude attitudes with no respect. It’s the same at all touristy resorts I’m afraid. Keep doing what you’re doing. Rise above the ‘something for nothing’ crowd. Sign of the times x

Just stopped on a walk with our dog on the sat of last bank holiday. When my husband made the order, there was nowhere to sit but we decided we would take away and sit by the lake instead. The queue was big and by the time he came out from ordering, a table had become free so i naturally sat at it. A few minutes later a very irate woman came out and pretty much barked at us that we had ordered a take away and the table was for staying customers only. I told her that a table had become free, so we would now be sitting and she was not happy. She made us more than aware that she was not happy. Was I supposed to not take a table when it comes free? I appreciated that the take away food comes to a table to be collected, but it really was only a matter of having it brought over or we would have taken it to the table we had found. We e had paid for food and drink from her but felt We were being treated like we had laid out our own picnic. No matter what rules etc there is no need for rudeness and for making the customer feel awkward. A proper telling off. Sausage bap was fine, sausage in bread though the roll was very crumbly and disintegrated whilst eating. Such a nice place but so many rules and regulations that I don’t fancy being told off if I get it wrong, so may not go again. Also, no bins provided for rubbish.

We go here 2/3 times a week after a run or cycle and have done for many years. Stands out a mile for quality and service. Staff are genuinely lovely. The best hot choc/coffees and huge range of cakes and goodies. The only ones leaving negative reviews are the rude ones who are asked to leave who think it’s ok to bring food from other outlets which says more about them than you. Most of us would never dream of doing it. We’ve all seen them. People can see through those reviews. Keep doing what you’re doing the Southport community needs you and your volunteering

My family and I stopped for a drink and snack before continuing our day. After spending over £20 on 3 drinks and an ice lolly. We asked for a jug of hot water so we could warm our newborn baby's bottle up and was told that they couldn't do it, then they changed their mind and said that they would have to charge us. My baby was crying and they were extremely rude and unhelpful. Other customers who were waiting for their orders were also disgusted at what they had witnessed and heard. Never again will I spend my money in this place nor would I recommend it. I am absolutely disgusted. Thank godness for the decent and friendly staff at Antonio's Ice Cream Kiosk.

Went with my family for lunch and it was absolutely lovely. 10/10, we had club sandwiches, vegan stew and jacket potatoes bursting with fillings. Everything was massive and served piping hot. This aside, the reason I’m taking the time to write this review for this classy little tea room is not only for its lovely service, staff and food but rather the care and attention given to an elderly gentleman who had fallen over and appeared to be bleeding from the eye. The amount of kindness shown here by who I assume is the owner was second to none and just doesn’t happen now a days. People on this app are quick to criticise however acts of kindness such as this never seem to be rewarded.

After numerous pleasant visits here in the past a visit here today proved to be extremely disappointing. While we all accept current measures to keep everyone safe are necessary, the standard of service here was nothing short of utilitarian. Do not expect tea pots and vintage crockery as previously, it's hot drinks in paper cups and teacakes served in aluminium foil. Cups and plates can easily and hygienically be washed in the dishwasher so there's no excuse for not using them. Furthermore, notices on the table requested that you put the used cups etc into the nearest public waste bin. It felt like a takeaway establishment without takeaway prices. There weren't even any toilet facilities, which is totally unacceptable. I understand these are difficult times, but this is not acceptable.

Everything is an effort, cold unfriendly, no warmth from staff what so ever. Had to repeatedly ask for sachets of sauce, one tiny sachet given per meal and to ask for more results in looks of disgust and great effort from staff even though the prices are too. Typical England, everything is top price but warmness, cheerfulness and not skimping on everything is too much to ask. I even offered to pay for the sauce because of the looks I was getting for asking for five sachets between 3, that’s less than two each. A shame as it’s good food

Visited just before it was closing on Bank Holiday Saturday. A lot of the menu had sold out, not surprising considering how hot it was, but the cakes looked lovely. The staff were nice and welcoming and helped with my friend’s wheelchair and my own allergy requirements. The only downside was the the amount of laminates on the tables with strict rules about what could be eaten on the grounds. This was due to council regulations I believe and the fact people would be looking for seats, however it brought the decor down. So no chips to be eaten on the grounds or slush or. Would go back again earlier in the day for a cream cake and milkshake.

In our party there were 3 adults and 2 children. The tea rooms looked pleasant so we went to order some food. My niece had a club sandwich which was over £6 and when it came the chicken was processed, not fresh. She asked for cheese on toast for her little boy on brown bread and was told children’s meals were on white so she had to argue in order to get the brown bread and when it came it was 1 slice of processed cheese which had gone hard when cooled. I won’t go on but suffice it to say there was something wrong with all of our food. The total bill was £38 definitely not worth it!

I have never been so disappointed with food and staff as I was today. I was here with my sister, daughter and 2 grandchildren. We ordered a ploughman’s salad, cheese sandwich, club sandwich, cheese on toast for 3 year old and scrambled egg on toast for 8 year old plus drinks. From the start the woman who served me was rude. When we asked for brown bread for the children’s cheese on toast we were told they use white bread for kids because kids don’t usually like seeded bread, my daughter told her my grandson doesn’t eat white bread so she said ok. They then told us they don’t take debit/credit cards which is fine so I paid the £36 in cash, the glass fridge where drinks are kept was not behind the counter so I went to get 2 fruit shoots and was told not to touch the fridge, they will bring the drinks, which is fine (but not the tone she used). The scrambled egg was brought out which was ok but then we waited 20 minutes for the rest of our food. The ploughman’s was acceptable but I have certainly had better. The cheese sandwich was probably the best and the club sandwich was very disappointing. Instead of fresh chicken breast it was thinly sliced chicken roll with bacon and egg etc. This was not what we expected so my daughter took it back and said she was not happy with it because she doesn’t eat processed meat and she was told it was fresh chicken, she argued with my daughter, was not professional at all and eventually gave my daughter her money back. The cheese on toast was a slice of cheese from the packets of sliced cheese used for burgers, but although we weren’t happy with that we didn’t complain about that. I would not have considered eating here if I had read the reviews before hand, it seems other people have had issues with rude staff the same as us and reading the responses from the management speaks for itself and shows how rude and unprofessional they are. I am really annoyed with myself that I put money in that woman’s till!I would not rate this place at all but had to in order for me to post my review.

Visited today. Went around the back with our Pushchair as its the only area with shade. Sat at the table which already had four chairs around it. Only for the door to open and the member of staff to bark at us that we couldn't sit there as we would be blocking the fire exit. I replied "well why do you have a table here then." to which she said "only two people can sit there" in a rude manner. We couldn't quite believe how rude she was, shouting at us, rather than asking us to move politely. Been here before but never again. Good for her, she's obviously doing really well and doesn't need to be nice or just simply use manners when speaking to customers, and can afford to lose business through sheer rudeness. All four of us were planning to have lunch there, and ended up going somewhere else. Other reviews on here seem to have similar experiences of rudeness, and her replies to them on here are far from professional. Look them up!

Ever since this little place opened, we have been there when we visit Southport for tea, toast and the occasional snack. I admit, our custom will not keep a cafe like this open all year round, but I feel that the manager over stepped the mark this time, customers should be tested as such and not be hounded because they are using the facilities and told off because of their policy. Rude, condescending and abrupt are just some of the words I would use for the person that I had the misfortune of meeting today, such a shame as it used to be a nice experience, ruined forever by this. I would recommend it normally, but not if the staff are likely to have a go without warning.

Won't let you use the toilet before ordering or you have to pay £1. Despite being heavily pregnant and telling them we were about to order. Absolutely disgusting behaviour!!!

Toilets filthy and door broken, cheek charging £1 to use even though we where ordering drinks ? Owner is obnoxious and rude, doesn't deserve custom.

A lovely little tea room sat just off the coast. We decided just to go with a pot of tea for two and to share a gluten free carrot cake, was very enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Went here on Thursday on recommendation from a friend, who had been for afternoon tea and thought it was the best ever. The ploughman's was fantastic and my partner had never tasted Oea & ham soup so good. We then shared a huge peice of lemon cake and a Kopperberg. Absolutely immaculately clean and well decorated. This is definitely my new place when visiting Southport. You deserve to do well!

Today was our first visit to kings garden tea rooms, I ordered a Brie and sundried tomato panini which looked lovely on arrival, however it unfortunately didn’t taste how it looked. The Brie was really gooey and smelt awful (this was not edible). I left my meal and didn’t want to make a fuss but when leaving we quietly told them that the Brie was not edible and we were a little disappointed, to which we were told we were wrong and wasn’t out of date (we didn’t say it was) the lady was so rude which was bad enough but that wasn’t where it ended, about 2 hours later we were walking back past the tea rooms and the same lady came out to show us the Aldi packaging and tell me I didn’t know what I was talking, spoke to me like a 5 year old and even had the cheek to ask if was I aware I hadn’t ordered Goats cheese . Terrible customer service, a simple apology would have been ok but we didn’t even receive that. I will not ever be returning after such a poor experience.

We found the tea rooms on a long walk around Southport. The staff were friendly and helpful. They serve good coffee and home made cakes. They have an interesting sandwich and snacks menu. We sat outside in a lovely sheltered spot and enjoyed just watching the world go by. A local business which is well worth supporting.

A little gem on the prom at Southport. Spotlessly clean and chintzy with china cups etc. Good choice of reasonable food to suit us aged two to 97years!! Only take cash but well worth a visit!

After having so much choice, our picks did not let us down!! Despite the wait for a table, the pea and ham soup is to die for and the cream scones were something else! Couldn’t recommend more, thank you to Diana and the girls for such a nice afternoon

Visited here recently, the coffee is the best around by far, service was great and what topped it off was the cake selection they had to offer, definitely one of the best I’ve seen and tasted. All of the cakes were made fresh it was just a shame I couldn’t eat them all! Will definitely return here again!

Stopped here for a couple of coffee's and my partner also purchased some food and we where asked to leave as I had donuts from the shop next door. I understand they don't want people taking the outdoor seats away from paying customers but we had purchased drinks and other food and there was still other free tables. What made this worse is the table next to us had ice-cream from next door but they where not asked to leave. If you're going to have rules you should enforce it on every one and not after you have taken the money.Worst of all it wasn't even good coffee

I arrived here with my baby after struggling to find a place for the pram to go.I heard someone say prams are to be placed in the back room.So I moved the pram there. In this time it was getting busy.I queued up with my daughter crying at this point.1 customer mentioned she’s hungry.I was ready to order to be refused to warm my 8 week old baby bottle up.The lady was so rude to me.She mentioned about some sign.I said what sign? I hadn’t noticed the small sign placed on the till.I told ive never had any problems elsewhere they ether warm the milk up behind the counter or give me a jug of hot water at the table. She said I am not arguing with you.I was shocked with everything she said to me.On my way out I told her I was shocked by her attitude that.I have visited her with my two boys and my mum.It was nice but I will not be returning ever again.I then left to try and feed my baby cold milk on a bench outside.I know she won’t take it without it being warm first.I found a lovely The hideaway cafe bistro the owners English may of not been the best.He had no problems serving me.I will go there again with my family. The place is not far from the pier it’s busy you get excellent customer service.

Visited Southport last week. Weather was sunny and warm (Wed). My mum & I saw what we thought was a nice cosy little tea room and were going to sit outside with my dog and have a coffee and cake, once my dog had a drink first. My dog was very warm and desperately needed a drink of water. Was pleased to see a bowl lying outside, however, went in to ask if some fresh water could be provided. I had the bowl in my hand, however, the owner abruptly ordered me to take the bowl outside (since they serve food inside), and the waitress would come and fill it up. I did what she "demanded" even though I felt it was a very odd thing to say, since the bowl was theirs and had obvioulsy "resides" in the cafe. After about 5 minutes, the young girl came out and took the empty water bowl back into the cafe! (the place where food is served and no bowl is allowed), to fill it up with fresh water (or so I was told). My dog was panting desperately for a drink of cool fresh water. We waited and waited and waited (around 15 minutes), until my mum decided to go into the cafe and ask where the water was.Well...the abuse she and I got was unbelievable! The owner asked if we were customers and we replied that we were not, however, had been considering having a coffee and a cake. She told us that was a lie and we had no intention of buying anything! In fact, her words were, "she had heard it all before"!She refused to fill up the bowl of water for my dog because I had emptied the water that had been lying outside for however long, into the plant pots to give the plants a drink. She said "she had been watching"!She said that my dog was not getting a drink because we were not buying anything. I told her that she should be ashamed of herself, refusing to give a dog a drink in such warm conditions. We walked away in disgust, with the owner making an exhibition of herself by shouting as we went!We found a wonderful place following our ordeal (The Potting Shed on Lord Street), where my dog was made very welcome, given her own bowl of fresh water and even a few treats! We mentioned our experience to a few local people and they said that the owner is renowned for her unfortunate attitude.

We called here again yesterday with our grandson. It is such a lovely tearoom with character and the staff are very pleasant. My husband and I had the bacon barm and we have to say it is probably the best bacon barm we have ever tasted. The tea is also the best cup of tea with have had which is served in china teapot and china tea cups. Our grandson albeit only 19 months old loved his teacake too! We will be back again and would definitely recommend this lovely tea room.

Myself and 10 friends visited for the first and last time last weekend and after spending over £60 on food and drinks were refused drinking water from the kitchen and were told to get it from the bathroom!! After reading some of these reviews I’ve come to the conclusion the owner has a serious problem and needs some customer care skills and I do expect her to say my review is all lies as how else could she explain her rude and unhelpful attitude ?

Had lunch twice during our recent stay in Southport. This is a lovely tea room housed in a quaint brick building on the approach to the pier. Run by the owner and her friendly staff they serve excellent snacks, the BEST home made cakes and great coffee. To cap it all it’s spotlessly clean too!!

Beautiful vintage tea room decorated tastefully. Staff friendly and accommodating. We only had ice creams and drinks but food choices looked appealing and very reasonably priced. Lovely outdoor seating area. Only downside is no toilets in cafe but some close by. We will be back!!!

A small, compact cafe with a friendly, inclusive atmosphere. Definitely a cut above the average park cafe - nice coffee and a good selection of cakes and traybakes. The breakfasts looked good as well.

I briefly popped into Waterfields today and I was very pleasantly surprised at the selection. The cakes and snacks were extensively stocked behind the counter and were very reasonably priced at under £2 each. I bought a cupcake with vanilla cream on top which was delicious! The staff serving were friendly, polite and efficient. You can also sit in to eat, if you wish. The only issue was that the loaves of bread/toasties were running out, then again it was 3pm so this was understandable. Overall, I would highly recommend a visit!

Expensive for what you get. Service was great but you can feel the place is just designed to get as much money as they can for what little they give

This used to be a good bar but is now just a high priced dog compound. 9 dogs in this very small bar. Wouldn't order food given the smell of dogs and lack of washing of hands by bar staff after feeding treats to the dog. Don't bother, there are better alternatives in Formby.
