There seems to be a real lack of traditional breakfast joints in the town centre, i chanced on this place, greeting was warm and friendly, I asked if they could prepare me something off menu (it was not a challenging request) they were happy to oblige, food arrived swiftly along with a pot of tea. Interior of the cafe was clean and comfortable and staff were very attentive

Popped in for a snack lunch, during a shopping visit to Chelmy. Too many eateries in central Chelmy are chains and/or expensive. So glad we chose Kings Coffee House - friendly & helpful staff, reasonably priced, good portions and tasty, freshly-cooked food. Family friendly.

I thought I’d give Kings Coffee House a try. I tell ya it was one of the nicest breakfasts I’ve had in Chelmsford in such a long time, was so nice I went back for another breakfast two days later. Lovely team and venue what I highly recommend giving a try. Compliments to you all and I’ll be back soon.

My wife and I go to Kings for a regular basis (usually once a week) for breakfast and have been for a few years now. The staff are really friendly, the service is fast even when busy and the fry ups are filling and decent value.

I had a coffee at King’s Coffee House on a Saturday afternoon. Coffee was very good and prices are reasonable. Service was great. The cafe is a little bit greasy spoon like which I wouldn’t usually pick for just a coffee. The full English breakfasts looked great, big portion. There’s a lot of choice on the menu including some yummy American style milkshakes. There’s lots of seating outside which would be lovely when the sun is out. I think this place has potential for a lovely visit so since I only had a coffee but imagine this is a perfect fry up spot, I’m going with very good rather than average.

My.partner and I regularly go here so thought it best to write a review. The place is extremely clean. As soon as a space becomes available the waitresses can be seen with their bottle of disinfectant cleaning the table and the chairs, social distancing is taken very seriously here. The people that work here are very friendly.when we arrived we sat down and very quickly were asked what we wanted to drink, we were also asked for one of our names and a contact number which my.partner gave on our behalf. What i.like is thst even though we go here every week we are still asked to give details. Excellant.I had a pot.of tea for 1 and my partner had a cappuccino. We both got the all day breakfast with the option of chips added. This costs 7.50 but is a massive feed. You get chips, egg, mushrooms, sausage, bacon, beans and a hash brown as well as bread. I personally do not eat bread so was given the option of having something else. A piece of black pudding was asked for . The food arrived in a very reasonable time and was cooked to perfection. We had our food and paid the bill. This place is excellent, staff are great and the food hits the spot. This place is very popular so when it is busy it can be a little bit of a wait but it is definitely worth the wait. It also has outside seating and an upstairs which is open when busy, with social distancing of course.

Woman serving me was very rude and ignorant. Did not smile and the customer service was very bad. I work in a cafe therefore I know what the standards are. She got annoyed when I changed items on the breakfast and gave me an angry look. Very bad. Also overpriced. Also didn’t get a saucer with my tea

I went there on a weekday afternoon approx 12:00 . The restaurant seemed busy with 5-6 tables occupied . Atmosphere was good . Service was friendly . Staff were attentive and quick service . I chose this Cafe because I only had 30 mins for a quick lunch , it seemed busy so I thought the food must be good with some sort of standard . How wrong I was ... I ordered a Chicken Mayo Sandwich ...(Please see photo) £3.70 on Menu . Price was reasonable I thought until it was served to me . It the saddest sandwich I ever had , it just looked very depressing . Chicken was dry , just soaked in mayonnaise with no garnish etc . Worse than a Builders Cafe... The Bread itself also did not taste fresh . I was extremely dissapointed with my Lunch , in my opinion this Sandwich could have been made a lot better with a bit of effort . Only worth £2.20 In my opinion if it’s served in such a state . Will I go back again ? No chance ... Service : 8/10 Atmosphere : 8/10 Cleanliness of place : 9/10 Food : 2/10 Location: 8/10

A great place in Summer to sit outside and people watch and comfortable inside in winter. The staff are really friendly and efficient. The food is delicious and I have never had to wait long to be served. I visited again this week, and was not disappointed... I would definitely recommend!!

Visited here with my husband, on a trip to chelmsford from grays, only had a black coffee, but my husband had a milkshake, which he loves, but he declared it to be the best milkshake ever, so delicious, it has 2 floors, and was really busy, on a Sunday lunchtime, will definetly visit again, when in the area, and will next time try the food, as I saw plenty of dishes on the menu, and homemade specials

Didn’t fancy anything too heavy so popped in here for lunch. Had a fabulous lemon and herb chicken salad with avocado. Loved it. Large mug of builders tea (2 tea bags) to go with it. The usual cafe fair is on offer, fry ups, burger etc. But there are a lot of other options; eggs benedict, cottage pie. Very impressed.

On Tuesday late afternoon I was joined by a good friend for a walk into Chelmsford for a late afternoon tea. We stopped at Kings Coffee House where there were chairs outside and we had a dog with us so this seemed an opportune moment. I have often eaten here over the years and was quite happy to sit outside. I popped in for a menu and was welcomed and told that a waitress would soon be with us. The menu was quite long and we had made our decisions. When the waitress came out she asked if we would like to hear about the specials. That did it, fish and chips for me with selected and my friend had a late breakfast. There was a short wait and out came the drinks, followed by our meals. They looked and tasted delicious. Plenty of really good food, friendly service by pleasant and polite staff. I was very pleased by the whole experience and will be returning on a more regular basis.

This used to be a great cafe to go to. It's staff are friendly, but it's astoundingly overpriced for a greasy spoon. It's a cafe for goodness sake. How you can warrant over 5 quid for a toasties and chips is beyond me. The entire menu is overpriced. Needless to say, I WON'T be back.

This is my favourite greasy spoon in Chelmsford. I used to meet friends here frequently, less often lately but that's not because I don't like the place. It is what it is. It's unpretentious, friendly and good value for money. They do good fry-ups and halfway decent burgers. There is waitress service and somewhere to sit outside, which is the only part of the café that is accessible to wheelchair users. The upstairs seating area reminds me of cafés in the 60s and 70s. I really like it.

This is in a good location and is not a chain but boy does it need a face lift. Carpet upstairs is a bit urgh, toilets definitely need an update. Food was ok but weirdly priced. Ploughmans was huge and good value but thought the price of the burger in a brioche bun was well overpriced and not very practically served in a plastic basket. Beans on toast ok. Service was hit and miss. Had to ask for the pot of coleslaw, hot chocolate served wrong and with no saucer so made a mess on the table. Other customers had to ask for cutlery. All in all it was ok but wouldn't rush back.

We were staying in the hotel and this was the night of the Queen's funeral so we decided to 'eat in'. They only had one chef in the kitchen so it took a long time for our meals to appear. They did warn us when we sat down but it would have been nice to be told when we booked the table when we checked in. Food was nothing special but nothing to complain about either.

In area looking at antiques, decided to stop here for light lunch. Dissapointed to find that a Tea Room served our hot drinks in takeout cups and sandwiches on paper plates with plastic knives & forks. The menu sandwich choice read Thick hand cut Wiltshire ham, the sandwich turned up with one slice of thin cut ham. Sausage roll was cooked in microwave so pastry was soggy and a toasted tuna sandwich was not edible. Awful lunch! Addressed our complaint to the staff, was refunded back the Tuna sandwich. Doubtful we will rush back.

Chelmsford the place to eat. Arrived today to see 4 partners chatting behind the counter . I asked one of them I could have x2 pieces of cake from underneath the glass cover, only to be told “it’s self service”. I appreciate that but I am 78 years of age with a health condition and am unable to lift heavy items. I was eventually assisted. There was no breakfast tea on the counter so I was sent to another counter where there was also none to be had. Reluctantly a member of staff found one for me. Not really the best customer experience, unlike the partner in the Christmas department who went over and above to help escorting me to another department to assist me. Come on John Lewis you need to do better.

Good service, good coffee, sit outside and watch the swans. What else could one want? On our first day of house hunting in Chelmsford we went to BBs. 20+years later it is much the same and we still go there for coffee.
