Went for Sunday lunch. Excellent main course but desserts disappointing and shop bought. Big issue was that they had run out of soup starter and the only vegetarian starter was “bread and oil” - very disappointing

What a fantastic pub! I found it online just with a google search but I’m so so so happy that I decided to take my group of 50 Italian adult students here a couple of Saturdays ago. I booked and had been emailing to organise everything for a couple of months, Meg was great! She was very friendly and everything was organised to perfection! The actual pub is a beautiful combination of old traditional drinking pub and more modern and tastefully decorated food area. The staff were all very efficient and friendly and the food was superb! I can’t thank enough Dan, Meg and everyone working when we went for such a fantastic evening!

MY Wife booked Sunday lunch, after recommendations from a family member. The Kings arms is a lovely pub, pleasant atmosphere, with excellent service, my only criticism would be some of the food, the starter ( leak & potato soup) was very tasty, the dessert ( rhubarb crumble with custard) again was very nice, the main course ( beef dinner with veg ) was tasteless, if I closed my eyes and put any of the veg in my mouth, I'd have struggled to know what I was eating, no flavours whatsoever, if it wasn't for the mint sauce, the dinner would have had zero taste, even the beef was bland. I'd go back again, but maybe not have a cooked dinner. 👍

Had Sunday roast dinner; lamb was tender and delicious. The veg & cauliflower cheese were all good too. Yorkie could have been more crisp and hot though. Sticky toffee dessert was ok. The meat was definitely star of the show. Only Inch's on tap, would have been nice to see more ciders on tap.

We had a good meal at the Kings Arms, service was a little bit disorganized and slow but nothing terrible. The main meals were excellent with a great choice, we expected a similar choice of puddings but instead there was a chalkboard thrust in our faces with a choice of the five Usual Suspects including rhubarb crumble, chocolate brownie etc etc. We opted for the rhubarb crumble unfortunately this wasn't a good choice with a paultry amount of custard and a filling of rather Green watery rhubarb. Overall a very nice place to eat with some great choices of starters and mains at a very reasonable price.

Never been before but friend local to the pub took us for Sunday lunch. Had to wait an additional 20-minutes for our table, but it was well worth it (even had an extra wee drink before we sat down). I had pate to start, which was lovely and plenty of bread and butter to go with it and dessert was brulé which was also very nice. I had beef for my main course that was simply outstanding! I knew it would be good when it was offered medium rare or well done. I went for medium rare and it was perfection! The accompanying vegetables were also really well prepared and served and a special shout out for the carrots and parsnips! Also, homemade yorkies. We live about 45-minutes drive away, but we are 100% going to go back and take other friends with us! Think we have found a new fave place…

I went for Sunday lunch in the restaurant with my wife and mother in law. It was a bit draughty because we were sat close to the door. The Restaurant had a really noisy child on the table behind us. I chose the soup and the vegan steak roast, my mother in law went for the deep fried ham hock in breadcrumbs, and roast beef for main course. Verdicts… Soup was lovely (Potato and Leek, obviously made fresh) Ham hock, my mother in law enjoyed.Looked like it started out frozen. Roast lunch was disappointing, it looked like a beyond beef burger, it was billed as Vegan Steak Roast ,the roast potatoes looked very frozen then roasted. The other vegetables seemed ok nicely, al dente , the others in our party thought their slice and a half beef was very fatty and difficult to cut. A bit underwhelming. The creme brulee was nice, it was cold, was meant to be warm? Service was attentive.

We were told by a friend who just happened to come across this pub/restaurant when looking for a family meal venue, that the food was amazing! They weren't wrong, we had a drink in the bar/lounge area which you can also choose to have your meal. I wanted an aperol spritz my husband a beer but were told they only sell the spritz in two as per the size of the processco bottle, that wasn't a problem for us just unusal. The only negative of the bar area is that they have a lovely fireplace with log burner which wasnt on when we were there, but when the staff came into work they just threw their coats/ jackets to the side of the log burner so you could just see a pile of coats, surely they have a proper area to hang their coats etc!. We proceeded to go to the restaurant area which you go through the snug area of the pub which seems mainly the locals catch up, but I'm sure anyone can stay in there. We went in the restaurant area and ordered our meals and drinks. The staff were polite and promt. The food was delicious we ordered the chilli prawns and beetroot falafel for starters and went halves as usual! I had the lamb rump which was cooked to perfection , my husband the vegetarian pie which je said was one of the best he's had. for pudding I had the cheese cake bit found a bit bitter after taste so didn't eat all, my husband the creme brulee which he loved. We enjoyed our night there for my birthday meal and will go again

We go to the King’s Arms at least once a month even twice the food is always good, so we decided to have Christmas lunch there. We took the second sitting arrive at 2.45 we were told to sit down at 3pm. First sitting were still there and we waited half an hour for our table, no worries we thought, staff apologised and they were busy trying to accommodate us. Appetisers came out quickly lovely, more than an hour later the starters arrived. The sitting was full, clearly looked like there were too many people to adequately serve. Mains came 2 hours later, cold, potatoes like rock, gravy stone comfy, we were asked if we wanted it warmed up, how I wondered so declined. The food was inedible and disappointing given that usually it’s so good, we had our dessert to go as we had been waiting for food for so long. We were not charged for service, however I feel that two sittings when you are struggling to cope food wise, seems disingenuous, thus wasn’t an inexpensive event.

A traditional village pub with gastro pub food and some traditional modern British pub classics. For real ale the Kings Arms had Young's bitter or Brains SA on handpump on my first visit, with Courage Best instead of SA on my second. While this generation of Best is a bland pint, it is ok for an afternoon beer or a driver. The cider is Inch's keg. Upmarket high quality pies and food (market menu) and wine at upmarket prices. A less fancy and pricey but still high quality pub menu. Large selection of gins. Dog friendly. Friendly and welcoming staff. A nice outdoor patio when weather permits. A wide range of customers making a pub that is part of the community and attracts wider visitors. On our second visit, with close family who recently moved to Pentyrch, we had the Sunday lunch. I had the leak and potato soup, then the lamb - as an occasional meat eater / mostly vegetarian in the last ten years. It was very good. My wife thought the vegan steak was a bit boring - trying too hard perhaps. She'd have preferred a decent pie or maybe a regular veggie burger choice which are available on other days. The waitresses and waiter were familiar and confident with different dietary requirements and checked with the kitchen that my wife's choices were dairy free, suitable for lactose intolerance.

Good selection of dishes across the different menus. One member of our party is a vegetarian and had a choice of dishes to chose from. Have to mention the pies, so deliciously. There were a handful of very well behaved dogs, and about a dozen appallingly behaved children in the beer garden. The parents didn't seem to care at all which makes me think that this is normal for the pub. The fish & chips I ordered were quite anaemic & a tiny portion for the £14 I paid. The peas were extremely salty, not a great flavour. Decent beer & good bar staff, nice garden & inside. [Edit] the fish had about 10 bones in it too

Pretty average in all respects. Well the beer was good.. the Sunday roast had very burned yorkies and undercooked green beans and almost no gravy. Apparently the veggie steak thing was weird and tasteless. Had to get the waitresses attention and ask for everything, asked for kids menus, another round of drinks, spoons for dessert, extra gravy etc.. nothing was ever offered and it's quite a pricey pub/restaurant so a more attentive service is expected. The staff were all nice so it seemed that this was just the level of service we should expect. It's a shame as I'd love to make that pub one I go to regularly but I won't unless it's just for a pint. Visited Kings Arms (for first time) Friday 20th August 2021. It was for a birthday meal with family. We wanted to try something different to the usual "chain establishments". Booked over the phone a table of 5 for 7pm. However, on the day due to weather and roadworks and high levels of traffic, it was indicating that the 38 minute journey could be double that. As I hate to be late we set off even earlier, but sailed through and arrived at the pub around 6:15! Main carpark was full, but there was a space left in front of the pub. Unfortunately my daughter and partner arriving separately couldn't get in so had to park a fair distance down the hill. May not have been an issue if we had arrived closer to our booking time, but something to consider as it is popular.Having arrived early, and the bar was quite packed we approached the bar and the lady behind the bar did look into whether it was possible to switch between the bar and restaurant seating but was unable to do so. However, despite our early arrival she did arrange fairly quickly to sort us out at a table at the back , well away from the bar which was great. The menus were provided and drink request taken. The waitress that took our order was excellent, being both professional and friendly & welcoming and had a thorough knowledge of the drink selection from the bar! This is a rare skill in many places we have been to eat over recent years. The same waitress was also very helpful in describing a number of the starters and we went with 3 , Tempura prawns with chilli jam, Ham & cheese croquette and the recommended pulled ham hock bonbon. She was also kind enough to go and get the dessert board for my daughter - as selection of desserts influences her choice of mains (she needs to leave room for them!). All 3 were delicious, but we all agreed (as they were shared between the 5 of us) that the ham hock was probably the best!Mains we went for included the beef burger, chicken burger, cod and chips, sea bass and honey roast belly pork. Everyone enjoyed their meals, though I did find a greater than usual amount of (inedible) fat on the belly pork than I have usually had in the past. However, I think that is a risk you take with this meal and the crackling and the remaining meat was lovely. I was also was called on to help out the two ladies having fish, and I have to say I thought they were the two stand out meals. The freshness of the cod and crispy batter was the best I have ever tasted and the sea bass was also excellent. To be fair, I think we had all eaten enough by then but it seemed a shame to leave without at least trying one of them, so three of us ordered the brownies - which were soft and gooey and a good finish to a lovely meal.We had the pleasure of another two of the waiting staff helping out with the courses/drinks orders and all of them certainly are a credit to the pub.So all in all a great night, but whilst the food was excellent I think it was the service experience that stood out. Well done. I wish we lived closer to Pentyrch!

So after my 3rd visit to the Kings Arms I have finally found the time to write a review. My first visit was after a strong recommendation from a friend whom is the worlds fussiest eater! The atmosphere, service and food exceeded all expectations I just knew I had to come back. The next visit was with a high profile client of mine who was also blown away by the same level of service and quality of food I initially received on the first visit and also noted that the calm and professional atmosphere surrounding us was second to none which is rare to find these days, needless to say, very impressed once again! Myself and a friend visited again tonight, I’m not normally the one to go to a restaurant and order a burger, but after another recommendation of another friend to try the burgers I thought I’d give it a go and for sure it did not disappoint in the slightest, again the same level of hospitality shone through and for sure I will be back for many visits to come, it’s great to have found a place with the same level of consistency each and every visit, somewhere your that confident of taking someone after you have given it a tonne of praise! Dan the owner has a wealth of exceptional experience in the hospitality industry and this clearly reflects onto the staff and every small detail within the business. The fact that all the staff present every time I have visited have all been with the business since the day Dan began his journey speaks for itself! Not the typical high turnover of staff environment like the majority of other restaurants. The staff are a credit to the company and of course the main man who makes it all possible! Absolutely outstanding and I can’t wait for the next visit! A bit like Mary Poppins, “Practically perfect in every way”

Salud.

In my opinion one of the best pubs in Cardiff. Great beer, great staff and great food. Delivery in the village during this whole world of uncertainty and helping the community where they can. 10/10 everytime!

Went with my wife to sample the new Market Menu which changes monthly. We missed the February one so didn't want to miss the March version. I had the Braised Ox Cheek which was utter perfection whilst my wife had the salmon, again perfectly cooked and presented.Great atmosphere in the snug bar and the restaurant with attentive, courteous and professional service.

Lovely pub, great atmosphere, nice food and decent prices. What you need for a simple night out, go for a nice steak and have a whiskey or two by the fire in the cosy bar area.

Stopped here with no booking for a late lunch - nice food, service was good, albeit it seemed to be a bit short staffed. Nice country pub, shortish menu - but all nicely executed. I am not a fan of extras - if you are paying £14 for a main course which does come with veg ( not sure why they want to charge for additional veg?). Would certainly eat here again and would recommend.

Visited today a s served by Chloe i believe. Ordered 2 pies and there was an error where the wrong food was sent out. However the way this was handled showed excellent customer service. Mistakes can happen but the attitude and desire to deal with them and provide great service was excellent. Will definitely visit again

The staff are very friendly and welcoming which is always a good sign. The choice of food on the menu is broad and ought to cater for most tastes including vegetarian, vegan and gluten intolerant options; the choices of alcoholic beverages is mostly unfortunately limited to ‘lager’ based ales albeit some of the slightly more tasteful European types; no doubt this reflects the general age groups the establishment is encouraging to visit. Five of us had dinner in the early evening; three adults and two teenagers as there was plenty of option on the menu for younger preferences. The internal deco is themed with old style industrial lighting and more homely lampshades in another section making for an interesting mix of styles. It was a midweek visit and the place was busy making for a noisy environment; however the music was not too loud it was simply the sound of conversation in an environment that reflected sound off the walls; that said many popular establishments have similar problems; people seem to think of noise as somehow atmospheric. A simple solution noise pollution is to possibly have some soft furnishing on or near the walls or ceiling or if considered a fire hazard there are some other options available that ought not to be too costly; this would greatly improve the ambiance for those people such as grandparents taking their grandchildren out for an evening meal. The table service was a bit haphazard as there were some untimely waits for some dishes to arrive whilst others came along quickly. The Fino Lounge however, is well worth a visit.

This is nothing more than an over priced cafe. The general ambiance is very poor with each of the seating areas being worn out. Other similar venues in the area might well be worth exploring
