Kings Arms in Taunton Deane

Well where can I start. We had a an event booked in their function room. We booked it months ago. To only be rung the day before asking what we wanted how many etc as they had lost our booking. They offered us so much which sounded amazing to which didn’t happen. We had a family member who has coeliac and they said that we could have bowl of gluten free chips cooked in the separate frier (they are 4) and then to find out they cook gluten containing products in there, to say they were upset would be an understatement. The communication is so poor. We booked for 33 people (to eat) to which we explained more were going, and they refused to give us more plates for the cake etc, as we had our quota, even got funny about giving more chairs! Some of the bar staff are friendly where are others not so much! Definitely think about giving them a wide birth particularly if you have allergies! We didn’t let it spoil our event but wouldn’t go back again.

Very unhappy staff. Didn’t get a welcome, or even a hello. One member of staff seemed very unsure of what she is doing. Inside was relatively comfortable. The beer garden is large and could be so nice. Sadly it is strewn with cigarette butts and rubbish. Outside chairs and tables don’t look like they have ever been wiped over. The king of place where you sit in the edge of your seat so not to get too dirty. Toilets are foul; urine all over the floor and when I went in, the soap dispenser didnt work. According to the schedule on the door, it hadnt been checked in 10 days. Apparently the ladies has two out of action toilets which are filled to the brim with tissue and urine. Ale not great, Guinness ok. Didn’t try the food as I worry that if the staff use the same toilets as the general public their hygiene will be compromised. Such a shame. This pub is iconic in Taunton. Used to be a local of mine. Sadly it’s plummeted downhill. I hope they find a way to turn it around again.

Came one evening for a drink, after a meal we'd been too. When we arrived the staff were sat infront of the bar eating and on there phones. Then all went out to smoke together. Not very welcoming, management is clearly lacking, though not surprising considering the current management has left their own glowing review a few down without changing their name for anonymity.

Would like to say what a fantastic job the staff done on Christmas Eve, the young lady and young man serving behind the bar take my hat off both of them. They were so polite and even though the place was packed, they served people as quick as they could. They were getting lots of people had too much to drink, but they always had a smile on their face and then greeted everybody with a smile. Well done the pair of them. They worked well together, And showed how much they were part of a team management should be proud of them 🎉🎉

The lady with brown hair behind the bar was very rude, disrespectful, very unwelcoming. When asked me for a drink she said what do you want as if I was a burden to her. Asking for my payment she is rude and treated me as if I was a burden again. She didn’t have a smile. She just walked past customers and didn’t even offer him a drink when he was sat there for at least half an hour and just kept walking past. She wasn’t welcoming at all and just very overly rude.Where as the blonde lady behind the bar was very lovely. She couldn’t have been more welcoming. She had a smile everytime she served someone. She introduced herself as Milliy. I will be coming back to the pub thanks to her lovely attitude.

We prebooked the skittle alley for a get together for 40 guys and preordered sausage and chips for the same number. On arrival we were told they had no real ale they had sold out, even though they knew we were coming. At 9pm no food arrived, when prompted two plates of sausages ( approx 15 sausages per plate) cut up small to make them look more and two plates of chips ( approx 4 or 5 chips per person) We were charged £160 for the food that amounted to less than 1 sausage and 5 chips per person, When challenged the manageress said the kitchen was closed and we had had the amount we had paid for. very very expensive for very little very cheap ingredients I would say. I really want to help local pubs these days but this was taking the mickey to the highest degree. Sorry but you really must do better.

It’s nice to see the place starting to get busier again, it seems they are paying much more attention to detail in the food since our visit last year, hats off to the new manager/landlord for making us feel so welcome this time around! Good luck with everything!

Came to the kings and have been coming for a fair few years… welcomed in by Bradley and served us 5* service same as everyone else. Bradley is an asset to the team!! Well done guys

Absolutel crap. No real ale. Recommended another beer turned out be £ £5.85 a pint Changed to bottled beer @ £3.85 & they ran out of that as well. If you want a night out, with a selection of beers at a reasonable price, don't go here.

Very friendly staff at the King's Arms but the cleaning is very bad not up standard need to find new cleaners

The pub has not long reopened after the fire, brilliant atmosphere, food was lovely and hot, good value for money. We have a dog and the t was welcomed by the friendly staff.

Had the small portion of steak and chips with a drink for 7.99…. Perfectly cooked 5oz steak with not a bit of fat, the new chef Harry did good 😊 staff were really friendly, would highly recommend

Recently refurbed the Kings Arms has a fresh and friendly atmosphere and the staff (Tami and TJ) couldn't be more helpful. I had a quick bite to eat from the Lunch menu. I had the Club Sub which came with chips. Really cheap prices. The sub was jam packed with Chicken, Bacon and salad. It was more than enough. Saw some of the food coming out and all looks great. Sean the Manager was really welcoming and the pub offers lots more. Loads of sport on big screens, pool table, skittle alley and soon to open new beer garden. Definitely worth a look!

Visited here in February as heard very good things about the place! To then find out for myself it was a terrible experience, the staff were rude and one member of staff was sat on his phone while i waited to be served for 10 minutes!! The landlady is very rude and showed no welcoming into her pub! The cleanliness was outrageous had peas on the floor below me that looked like they had been there for days! I must of seen at least 2 drug deals while I waited to be served! Finally got served and the gentleman who served me took no notice in what I was ordering and completely messed it up. El mismo día que habíamos estado en el George, Weston Zoyland nos dejaron de servir comida donde en 1 minutos últimos 2, visitamos el Kings Arms Taunton que orgullosamente declaró en su sitio web que sirven comida durante todo el día. Bien en la 5. 30 ese día la casera decidió que ella no iba a hacer la comida esa noche. Bonito! El ale exmoor que tuvimos fue también.

Fuimos la semana pasada y me impresionó ver cuánto dinero se pinta informal sabía raro. Cuando me dijeron que un miembro del personal se encogió y no parece preocupado. La comida también era el mismo. Evitar este pub a toda costa.

Desde el cambio de gestión se ha producido el ambiente en el pub ha caído plana. Bebidas caras, junto con una mala elección en la gestión parece haber arruinado lo que solía ser un buen pub en el centro de Taunton. También, el director siempre tiene su bebé en el pub (hasta pasado 10 om por la noche) lo cual me tiene cuestionamientos de sus habilidades de crianza, así como sus competencias de gestión

new management, new kitchen manager. we have now been back to the pub several times since last review. last weekend arranged our party in the skittle alley catering over the whole day for about 120pers, engaging on ideas and help to achieve, food absolutely amazing and faultless, marvellous staff throughout the day, massive tolerance for the odd mishap and a most wonderful time at incredibly reasonable rates - massive thank you to all, real big big up to jade

Everything is over priced from drinks to the food. Is managed by a guy who honestly doesn't have a clue he also has the apple and parrot pub which is run badly! Guy has lost 25 grand already just shows how badly run his pubs are. Avoid at all costs!

Stopped on mass for a drink prior to a wedding nearby. Service seemed fine, although quiet at the time and prices were reasonable.Very strange to have to pay and display to use the car park though...would put me off if it was my local!

Went to Kings Arms for a meal with a group from work. Had been here before for skittle functions, and general pub drinks. This was the first time for a meal. Admittedly it was a Monday night, and quite clearly the pub is not used to doing meals on a Monday night. That said, our pre-ordered food was hot, well presented and bountiful. Even the blokes in the group struggled with the amount of food. ....it was lovely though. The staff however, let the side down a little as they were emotionless, but polite. Except for the disgruntled landlady, who was a little off, with no sense of humour and at one point walked off because she had other things to deal with!!! ..personally l think that was rude- my collegue dismissed it.We will be back, because the food was good, we made our own good atmosphere, and the prices were good. If your in the pub business you seriously need to be a people person.

Staff cannot be bothered,perhaps this is a reflection on the leadership they follow,food was poor at the least, toilets smelly, lager was of a good standard,however massively overpriced

Good live busy pub. A thatchers gold and double g&t came to £9 something. Nearly fell over. Other than that nice place. Nice garden.

Ordered food, told them we were sitting in the beer garden and got a number for the table. Next thing I know, a waitress is yelling "number seven," I wave and she comes over, slams food down and shouts that we didn't tell them we were outside and she had been going round the whole pub trying to find us. Waitress with her told her we had said we were outside but she storms off leaving us completely dumbfounded and in shock. Everyone outside could not believe how rude she was. Few minutes later she comes back outside to what I thought would be to offer an apology but said she had asked and we hadn't said we were outside and walked off again. Was completely put off food and will never return to this pub, not to mention they over- charged us for a half pint and gave us our change in Jersey currency!

We have visited the Kings Arms several times throughout the year both on personal and business outings and both were excellent the staff seemed very well trained and knew what they were doing and the quality of the food was beautiful. I have been to other pubs across Taunton but this is by far the best Keep up the great work!.

I'm not from Taunton & have no bias at all. Other folk say I'm intolerant, unreasonable & expect too much from a pub. Maybe. Maybe not. But there are 5 things I require/expect: a range of decent beers, pleasant staff, a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, clean and well maintained premises & decent food at a sensible price. The KA ticks all those boxes. The food is as good as pub meals get in my view. The bar staff are often utterly lovely. If I fall out with the landlady once in a while (her bark is much worse than her bite) so be it. Possibly my own fault!
