Friendly staff and good service

The service was excellent we were made to feel very welcome Food was very good again. Only disappointment was the Eton Mess. No meringue and squirting cream so not up to usual excellent standard.

The Roast Dinner was Amazing, the staff were friendly and efficient.

Good parking, comfortable environment, special Sunday menus at an excellent price. Enjoyed the lunch.

Thank you we really enjoyed our visit to your Restaurant on Quiz night. The mushrooms were spectacular, The steak cooked to perfection and the Belgium waffles a real treat. There was a nice atmosphere and the service we received from Jill Edwards(I hope I remembered her name correctly) the assistant manager was top notch! Full marks to her and the chef, and the staff behind the bar. Professional, helpful and pleasant. A fine evening enjoyed by all.

Friendly and good service. We were asked about allergens. Chips with the main course we're soggy bringing food score down. Atmosphere score fell because of screaming child at nearby table.

I came with christmas party. Despite fact that all dietary requirements were aknowledged, and gluten free option should be included as stated by organiser. The only food available for gluten free ( I am celiac) was a plain ciabata roll. All meals and other stuff was with gluten.

A Christmas meal for 12, superbly pre organised and great communication with staff. Food arrived all together, amazing food and plenty of it.

We held our office Christmas party on Fri 8th December and the evening worked out very well. We were allocated the space at the end of the restaurant (for about 30 people) so there was enough space for everyone to circulate and sit down when the festive buffet was served. The food was plentiful and tasty - definitely good value for money.

We had our staff Christmas party at this lovely pub yesterday and I can't recommend it highly enough. We had our own area which was great as there were 11 of us and we had plenty of space to move around and mingle. We ordered the new Christmas buffet menu which was amazing!! (Highly recommend this). All dietary needs were catered for. The food was high quality, very generous portions and the vegan options were perfect. The pub is beautifully decorated and felt very festive. The staff are all super friendly, helpful and welcoming. We loved it and will definitely book our staff party at the King William again, especially as the buffet menu was so good!

Don't go if you have to be gluten free. No menu showing gluten free items.

The food as always was very good and decent sized portions, there were five of us, my Mum and Dad, my Son and my two Grandchildren. The waitress we had Catherine was very attentive and was extremely helpful and polite, she comes highly recommended.

Staff need to greet customers with a smile Manners an courtesy go a long way in Hospitality. They may be having a bad day but don't take it out on the customers. Food good but portions too small.

We regularly attend the quiz at the King Will on a Wednesday night and are never disappointed. Great tasting, value for money food. Good customer service and a nice atmosphere.

A nice enough place let down by not having any draft ale at all. Four beers were unavailable, two because no-one on the staff knew how to change the barrels. Had to settle for Guinness, whose tap is hidden as the landlords would prefer you buy one of their own beers.

We enjoyed our lunch and the only improvement I can suggest is a slightly healthier menu, eg more salad choices and new potato options. I didn't find any healthy desserts either. I was pleased to see the calories listed on the menu.

Not impressed with the food very small portion and very expensive. Won't be going there again.

Spent a few hours here. Pleasant pub. Polite and friendly staff. Food was perfectly fine. It was a quiet period when I was there so hard to really judge the atmosphere. Would return again if ever local.

CONS: We had Sunday lunch. Broccoli, carrots and parsnips were undercooked and had too much bite. Not enough gravy on initial serving. I had veggie Wellington and although I asked for Yorkshire pudding I didn't get any. PROS: Clean, good service and good range of beers including low alcohol.

Great setting, friendly welcome. Delicious food of amble amount. Good value for money. Easy to access and park without having to faff about entering reg numbers. Very attentive staff with non intrusive manner. Really enjoyed my visit. I'll be back.

The serving and staff work was in general a shame… they started to care about our bigger group when we were already at the end of our stay and probably they noticed our dissatisfaction. Probably the food is not that bad but what i ate “beer battered” mushroom was not even beer battered and it was awfully dry and I can say the same about the hot chicken wings I ordered. Was not juicy, but dry and i could not taste the Frank’s RedHot Wings buffalo sauce either as whatever they pour onto wings they cooked the supposedly sauce with wings and dried all to the 2. death. 🤦🏽‍♀️ They did not note our request about bring all the food at the same time.. so i had to ate alone as they did not prepare the others regardless.. So first and the very last time ever there for me. No thanks, that s not why people pay for. I gave 3 stars as the other’s food looked quite alright (steak and garlic bread and nothing special chicken mushroom pie), however I did not taste those. Atmosphere thanks to our group not really to the place but they do have terrace and nice inner area also parking places.

Absolutely rubbish tonight. You have to pre order your food before you get to the pub. Seriously, there wasn’t a soul in the dining area. The good thing about pubs is you don’t pre order. Even a restaurant doesn’t ask for this. What’s going on customers fed up with this

Very average pub especially for St Albans. Staff friendly and good though. Food not great, st Albans prices for not much better than spoons food. 8 beer engines but only 2 ales on them and was served bottom of the barrel on 2 pints later in the day, all cloudy compared to the same an hour previous. Easy to meet at due to being on a busy road junction with it's own car park.

Interior looks smart, clean, well aired and tables laid out neatly. Plenty of room for diners and drinkers. Service prompt and friendly. Lunchtime deal very good value.

Ate off of the 'fixed price menu' portion size fairly small. (To be expected?) Some of the staff are friendly, some are not. Eaten in other Ember Inns, the prices here are about a £1 higher on average on the menu.

Could update the website hours - made the journey as we had heard good things about this pub and arrived at 10:15am on a Sunday but they were shut! Checked again and it says Sunday opens at 10am🙄🙄

Pretty standard pub food in a large dining or bar area. It was quiz night when we visited and unfortunately the loudspeakers were live in both areas so we sat outside. Fortunately it was warm and dry though you are close to the roads and St Alban's Traffic. Hence only 3 stars.

Had an absolutely shocking experience on Saturday 20th Aug 22. We was a table of 8 who had arranged a long over due family meal. We had pre booked so they were expecting us. They were clearly under staffed and under chefed however no one told us this when we booked. we all ordered and paid for our meals in pairs and told the lady taking the order we were all on the same table and our meals was to all come out together. Our drinks came all at random times and long pauses in between. To follow was one starter and a main. then 10 minutes later 1 more meal, half an hour later 2 more mains! Eventually after waiting 50 minutes after the first main arrived on the table to rest of the mains followed. Not forgetting the kids meal was last! Absolutely shocking. So our family meal resulted in watching others eat at various different times. my poor toddler had to watch everyone elea eat before she even got hers! Only after did we find out there was only 1 team memeber in the kitchen... the manager... not even a chef!! Firstly if they couldnt actually cater for us did they not ring and cancel us!? and secondly upon arrival why didnt they warn us there is only 1 person in the kichen so there will be a delay on food and will come out as and when ready?! Will definitely not be returning to this pub in St.Albans. Such a shame as its a beautiful pub / restaurant with lots of potential if it was in the right hands and under the right management. Having been a manager of numerous hospitality establishments myself this is not the way a business should be run. There was only one apology and no refunds, no complimentary drinks or desserts, absolutely sod all. Will be sure to let everyone if they want a lovely meal, good service and to be looked after this is definitely not the place to go!!

The chronicles of an underwhelmed hungry man As a weary traveller desperately in search of lunch I find it accustomed to visit my local spot for a bite to eat. As I enter the premises through a simply majestic roadside garden as beautiful and tranquil as the beaches of Bali, I’m greeted with the most upsetting of notices “kitchen closed at short notice from 3-6” devastating news but alas. Next week I endeavour to this establishment again this time at 2:30. The colour falls away from my face like a shaken etch a sketch - “kitchen closed at short notice 2:30-6” again I’m denied my ember inns lunch ! Well the following week I wouldn’t make the same mistake ! 1:58 I entered the majestic stone doors like a starve a ravaged hagrid dashing into hogwarts and to my sheer disgust the kitchen was bloody closed ! I must apologise for my foul language there but as a single man who uses tinder I’m accustomed to consistent rejection , but this was too much. This pub will never fill my needs to eat and survive. 1 star

The food was absolutely perfect and delicious even in this heat, I really enjoyed eating for the first time in 7 months, it was cooked to perfection, brilliant welcome, exceptional service, 100 % would come again .

Perfect Saturday lunch, the food was delicious and pretty good value too. Beer is always good there! All arrived quickly by friendly staff. We tried using the app and an e-mailed voucher to order and pay but the app crashed and used up the voucher in the process, so we didn't get the discount in the end, but no matter, it was still a very good meal out!

Staff was great, so is the food. :) my hubby would have liked more variety of beers- he normally orders Sol from other pubs. Our kids said the chicken wings from the kids menu had a bit more peppercorns. 😋

Always so accommodating, I rehearse with a local amateur dramatic company and they regularly let us arrive close to last orders and make us feel welcome, even though I know if I was behind the bar I would be crying inside! Friendly staff, excellent choice of drinks, and the few occasions I have eaten, the food has been wonderful

Great friendly staff, kept very clean by the team. Food menu has been improving over the years. This place has been getting busier, but luckily also never too busy that you can't get a table. Recommended, still a great place to go!

I like the decor but the service was non-existent. During a quiet time. The fire was on and the food was good, which helped. Not sure if the steamed vegetables were actually steamed or a microwave packet

Just had lunch there and food is good. We did have to wait quite a while, but apologies were given a couple of times and that was appreciated. A nice local for us.

Accepted my take away order when the kitchen was closed - apparently the pub has no control over Ember's own website and was unable to contact me. A trip just to get a refund.
