The King William Iv Kempston Awful food and ambience 963351691 Only once before have I experienced such a terrible steak if I can put a picture up then I will. There was more fat and gristle than actual meat. My friend had a chilli and he said it had no “zing” to it and left most of it. Highly disappointed as I was recommended to this pub. Needless to say neither I nor my friend will frequent this place again. I have just read your reply and it’s not factual, I complained to your waiter and he said how about a round of drinks, ahh no thanks I said how about a refund to which, instead of saying I’ll speak to the manager said oh well you’ll have to speak to the manager. . The photo shows what was left of a steak which I tried to chew but was impossible, really nasty. I am very surprised in view of the feedback you have from me (and my guest by proxy) that you haven’t reached out to me to offer a full refund but that just shows the complete disregard you have for your patrons.

Had a meal at king william the food was lovely lovely place to go. What made it even more nice a lady called shelly greeted us made us feel so welcome couldn't do enough for us. Just a lovely place. Hope shelly is on shift when we go again.

I come here very regularly with my friends and my children it is a great pub also pet friendly which is a bonus the staff are great they always on the ball angel melon and Shelley are all great together. I would defo recommend the chilli con carne

Visited here for Sunday. Lunch after a dog walk. The refurbishment is fantastic and it’s a really welcoming environment, also great it is dog friendly. The staff are friendly. The menu looks really good and we ordered the roast. We had a beef and a chicken, sadly this is where we were let down. It was more like a frozen meal that had been reheated rather than a freshly cooked roast on a Sunday. The cauliflower and leek cheese was nice, but did not have any leak in it! If they got this right, I can imagine the pub would be packed on a Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock however sadly nearly every table was empty. We will come back and try other stuff, as it is in a good location, just 5 mins off Great Denham Park and good walks around the area

Came in to watch the Tottenham game with friends. Despite the loss the vibes in the pub were great! Staff are friendly, attentive and a proper laugh! will definitely be back again. Place is also buzzing on the weekend, great place for a drink and atmosphere.

We visited recently. Both had the pies .I had the chicken & mushroom pie which was advertised as served with seasonal vegetables. This turned out to be a dish of peas. Very disappointed. The pie itself wa very tasty. We ordered a dessert there was then a very long wait for this. We had to chase it up. Overall disappointed with a few tweaks this could be very good,. There was a good selection of choice on the menu.

We popped in for a drink and it was quiet with only a few people in. A couple came down from upstairs and ruined the atmosphere. A female in particular, obviously had a few to drink was very loud and had a loud annoying laugh. The bar staff was slating the management which we didn’t need to hear. At one point they all popped out for a smoke and I was left waiting to get a drink. If you’re going to spend a vast amount of money in the pub and staff moan about why it isn’t busy, drop your prices and create a better ambience. There was a solo drinker in where we were sitting and wasn’t amused by the over the top laughing by the staff member that takes the bookings, he left. The pub needs to retain its character and encourage people to come in for a drink and/or a bite to eat. The way it was tonight definitely put me off. We would’ve stayed for a couple more and we probably won’t return which is a shame as it’s a stunning building and it’s a nice place for a quiet drink.

I came in on Monday with my partner for lunch, first time since the refurbishment and I was beyond impressed. Amirah who I believe was a member of management was unbelievably welcoming and friendly. Her whole aura and personality perfectly complimented our visit, me and my partner haven’t laughed as hard as we did in a long time. I was provided with many great recommendations and always had service with a smile. Amirah’s customer service was brilliant with all the other customers who were in at the same time, it genuinely was so lovely seeing a member of management interacting so highly and happily with her customers. Cannot wait to return!

Came here on Sunday through a recommendation from a friend. The pub did not dissapoint. Beautiful place and the staff were lovely but a special mention to the manageress Amirah. She was absolutely fantastic. An absolute asset to the place. Bubbly, smiley, friendly and a great laugh but clearly super professional also. She honestly made our night. Will definitely be coming here again.

Overall quite happy with my experience here . Staff were very lovely to talk to , The restaurant/pub as a whole is very nice. I reccomend going here for a date night or celebration as they have a lovely little area for a bigger guest party . I had the jumbo fish and chips and it is for a very good value normally its ok but this time they may have had the fryers on too high as mine was very overcooked . We then ordered desert and they were delious , I reccomend the sticky toffee pudding . Overall 10/10.

I booked a table a couple of weeks ago. Told them it was for my 60th birthday. Was disappointed with the table we were given in main bar next to a tv on a table not suitable for 5 adults and a child. We had to ask for a bigger table.would have been nice to be asked if anybody had any dietary needs. Which we where not asked about.We was asked once if our meals where ok. No table service. When I went to pay the bill I a member of staff walked pass me without asking if I needed anything. Was not thanked for my customer and how was our food. I know I he’d my bill with vouchers from Charles wells as my later partner worked for them. I don’t think I will be going back to your pub anytime soon.

The meal at the pub was quite delightful, although one minor drawback was the burger bun. It seemed a bit cheap and lacked flavor, causing it to fall apart easily. Interestingly, my family and friends who joined later also had similar thoughts on it. Nonetheless, it's a small critique considering the overall experience. On a brighter note, the staff were exceptionally attentive and had wonderful mannerisms, which added to the enjoyment of our visit.

Disappointed that basic table management is severely lacking here, having witnessed it on multiple occasions now; tables throughout the pub get reserved signs put on hours before the actual required booking time, so preventing customers beforehand just to sit and grab a drink. In fact those customers may just get turned away! The pub also advertises as a sports bar when only two out of the four TVs work/can show sports channels, and these 2 TVs can only show the same sports channel!? So, when you ask to watch a different sport as you've specifically gone to this 'sports bar', you get ignored by staff who don't then explain this to you. As for the restaurant, they randomly seem to offer table service for those just booking for a meal, however majority of the time those booked in the restaurant still have to order 'pub grub' at the bar... So what do you want to be King Bill ... a sports bar? a friendly local pub? or a restaurant? There's a lot going on here but none of it done well!

Arrived and it was all a bit chaotic, none of the staff were able to allocate a table and then told to find a free table which we did. Just looking at the menu and then told the table we were sitting at was required for a wheelchair user, which we were happy to vacate, but we wouldn’t have sat at the table if it had a reserved sign on it. Had to wait for ages until at last 2 tables were put together for our party of 6. We were advised there was a wait for the food as they were busy. The food was not great, expensive pub grub, one of the children’s meals, chicken strips, the chicken was dry and tough and when pointed out to the member of staff as it had been left just got an “oh sorry”. The bread on my sandwich seemed like it had been sitting for ages under a heat lamp to keep it warm. We were so pleased the King Bill had been refurbished, but it was a total let down, we won’t be returning for food.

We went as a family for lunch/dinner on 27th. Having been advised there would be the choice of two menus (regular and festive) when we booked in person, we arrived to find the festive menu was not available. Disappointing. On being sat, the two couples next to us were wearing their coats because it was so cold in the restaurant and despite asking the staff to turn the heating on, it was colder than being outside for the whole meal. This was distracting for the entire time we were there. No apology or update from staff who apparently were not aware. Some of the menu was not available and there were no obvious gluten free options so every query involved asking staff. It took 45 minutes to get the meals even though it appeared only half full. And each time the restaurant door opened, there was a significant waft of cigarette smoke from the smoking area outside. Overall a real disappointment considering the money that the brewery has clearly spent. It would have been better investing in more staff and upgrading the basics. It won’t be getting any recommendations as there are more efficient restaurants and better menus within driving distance.

I went to King William with some friends for Christmas dinner and we all loved it! the food was really good and the pub atmosphere was very welcoming. The team serving us was also very swift and polite whilst serving us, especially Ramona and Ben. Will definitely be coming back again soon!

2 adult vegan meals served smaller than 2 children roast dinners. Nut roast was some sort of under cooked rice dish. Manager refused to deal with problem with food . Refused to give alternative meal or discount and offered a pudding as compensation. Very poorly handled by staff. Would not recommend it at all.

Terrible, staff isn’t treated nice someone’s always kicking off in the kitchen the ‘manager’ is rude to customers and shouts back if they don’t like something ,meaning she can’t take constructive criticism! What person works with customers and can’t handle complaints for a starters? Also food is from a local food store called lidl so all stakes are from there that are most likely no more than £5? Yet in the menu they are £15 funny that seems like customers are being scammed don’t it ? Also when we was in for dinner one time we had seen waitress walking in with bags of food from lid didn’t think much of it until the bag split and loads of stake and vegetarian food fell of the same bag meaning cross contamination clearly ? On the same night we had finished our food abs went up to the bar to have some drinks and there was about 10 people on the same table but at that time there was meant to be no more than 6 people at a table meaning breaking covid-19 rules? On that same tables the people looked like they was in some type of drugs and was drinking excessively to the point where one of them fell of the chair at this point I felt a bit sick so I went to the toilet where there was sanitary items that was used on the floor.

Have eaten several times over the last month or so at the king bill, friendly staff and really good traditional food. Will be going back many more times. Keep on doing what you're doing Cheers Mark.

Not long been home from dinner out here. Food was very nice, waitresses were very friendly but we did wait a long time for the food to arrive. Once finished eating the manager came over and asked how everything was, my dad tried to give constructive criticism saying how the food was very very good but we did wait just over 45 minutes for the starters to arrive and we had to ask how long until we'd be getting them. Two tables sitting around us had also been waiting a long time, one table with two young children. A table that arrived after us had finished there mains and left whilst we were starting to eat our mains. We pointed out that another table next to us had had there mains very quickly the manager pointed out she's one of the chefs so she pre ordered, my dad said had we have known we'd have done that. The manager blamed the long wait on the waitresses saying 'they were new' we stated that the waitresses weren't the issue, they were great, very friendly and drinks arrived quickly after ordering. The manager said well you know when it's busy things will take longer, I explained that without being rude it's not busy... the manager came back with it might not look it here but we have tables to serve at the front of the pub, there were 6 of us at our table and every time someone had gone to the toilet there had been no more than 2 people sitting at the front of the pub. After explaining all of this the manager said I'm not quite sure what your getting at. Again I will stress that the waitresses were really friendly, happy to help but the manager just cannot and will not except constructive criticism that is given to her politely, at no point were we in any way rude and because of this we won't be returning for food which is really sad as its local to us, we want to help local businesses out and my parents have gone to the pub for years.

my friend and i came here last wednedsay and had a lovely meal and very reasonably priced. this is one of my favourite places to eat. i love the atmosphere in the pub. we are fairly regular visitors to the restaurant and we haven't had a bad meal yet.so good to be able to use it again.

The new manager Debs very kindly came to our rescue when I turned up with my mens support group hoping to have coffees in the garden, not realising they weren’t open til the following week! Debs kindly let us occupy the garden (we bought in takeaway coffees instead!), and we look forward to visiting again next week when we can have drinks from the pub (and maybe a bacon sarnie while we’re there). Debs was superbly kind and helpful. Thank you!

Ordered four 4 things from the menu to be told they were not available, as was my first choice of red wine. Starters were poor, the cheesy nachos had very little cheese, the chicken wings were renamed chicken bits by the waitress, turned out they were chicken goujons. My gammon steak order was accepted, but was told later that was no longer available, someone else must have been lucky, however I could have the lamb cutlets in its place at same price, which I must say were surprisingly good. My wife's lasagne seemed to have been cooked with no pasta & no sauce, it was just dry mince with parmesan cheese, even the chef could not say how it was made, as it was done earlier in the day by another chef.However it was the last day before the area went into tier 3 lockdown so I expect they were not replenishing stock. However won't be going back there any time, even after the restrictions are lifted.

Came here for an evening meal with family to celebrate Christmas before it shuts down again :( Always a warm welcome by Deborah and the staff and of course Hugo the tiny dog. The food is really tasty, the service is friendly and quick and it is such a lovely atmosphere. I'm so upset for the staff having to go through another lockdown but we will be back as soon as you reopen!

A lovely family meal: comfortable surroundings, friendly staff, and delicious food., which we all enjoyed very much. We shall miss this lovely place and are sad that it will have to close because of Tier 3 starting on Saturday. Good luck to the management and staff for a swift return.

I have been here three times, twice with my girlfriend and yesterday for a small breakfast served till 6pm. It is lovely, well run. The management and staff are all lovely and working hard during the current situation. The meals are so lovely, the interior is lovely and it is a lovely old building and romantic setting for a first, second and subsequent dates.

When I first went into the pub I was greeted with a lovely waitress who helped me with getting a table. The customer service i got from bar maid was impeccable. You can tell it’s a very family oriented pub which is amazing considering the times we are in currently, amazingly run pub from management and stuff. Couldn’t recommend a better pub for family and friends to go to. We had the steak and ale pie and it was cooked to perfection it even made my mouth water. Will be returning very soon. Wanted to thank Debbie the manger who took care of us whilst having the meal. Your an amazing manager

Came for a meal after lockdown #2 so we were really looking forward to it. I think the management has changed since we last came in which was February time. Ordered our food and were pleased as still had the eat out to help out scheme. Food took a little while to arrive (which wasn't a problem for me bit more so my two year old) so my little boy was playing with a Christmas present decoration. I could feel eyes glaring at me across the room as the manager/landlady shouted at him not to break it. We obviously weren't going to let him break it but just stand giving daggers was rude and unprofessional when it should be a family pub. Food arrived....except mine. I was asked if I wasn't eating as my food was not brought over when my mum and son's was. I had ordered lasagna however this had been given to someone else across the other side of the pub. It seemed that the there was a bit clique going on as she was just stood talking to her mates and they got my lasagna. Lasagna was tasty when it arrived however no salad garnish and frozen chips. My mum's steak pie had huge lumps of fat in it. Son's sausage and mash was very small portion (ok for a 2 year old but not so if older) and the sausage was low quality budget rather than local butchers. All in all a real shame as the pub is local and has a lot of character. Girls serving were lovely just wish they were allowed to be in charge rather than the manager. She was abrupt upon leaving also. Do not think I'll return.

I went here to celebrate my 40th birthday with my family on 4th November, the last night before the UK second lockdown. They had kindly rearranged from the original date we had booked. Although the food was being run down ready for closing for a month, the food that was still available on the menu was impressive. The food was fresh, nicely presented, served hot and was delicious. The staff were friendly, welcoming and in good humour. As I said, this was the night before a 1 month lockdown and the staff were facing a period of no employment so I applaud their positive attitude. The restaurant was spacious, clean and comfortable. The courses were served with plenty of time in between for conversation and it felt very relaxed. What felt like the entire staff, brought out a cake that had been arranged by my family and sang me Happy Birthday which was just lovely and very unexpected. They also provided a knife and plates if we wanted to cut and serve the cake. However, we opted for the dessert menu which was limited but again impressive and very tasty. We even got extra custard on request. I can’t rate this restaurant and the staff highly enough. Thank you for making my lockdown birthday so special.

These are not good times for pubs but I visited KW last night (Monday) with my disabled friend of 55 years.We, of course only wanted a few beers but we were looked after as royalty! We have visited 3 or 4 times this year and the service is always wonderfully friendly and attentive. Last night we were looked after by a most delightful young lady! Somebody is proud of this young lady and so they should be! Thank you!

Another of my regular visits, the first in a Sunday. I had the roast and couldn't fault it. It was proper home cooking at its best, potatoes were perfect and we all know how important they are :)Tried the bread and butter pudding for dessert and it took me back years was delicious and a nrw favourite. Driving through Kempston this afternoon the 15th of October 2020 I spotted a very lovely period public house called The King William 1V. I decided to go in and try some food , excellent Menu choices, the food was freshly cooked, so popping hot and scrumptious. There was a very nice atmosphere that gave off a very homely feel.The staff were all tremendously helpfulI couldn't ask for better if I was in my own house I'd like to thank the lovely landlady Deborah and all of her staff for making me feel so welcome today. I can highly recommend the food the prices the host and the pub itself which comes with a large garden for outdoor eating plus that all important area where children abd families can have fun. A very characterful old English pub and restaurant with a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere. The food was delicious and cooked perfectly. Great selection of ales. Everyone in the family had a very enjoyable time which was enhanced by the service and attention to detail provided by Deborah the charming landlady. Highly recommended.

Me and my friend stopped by for some dinner and drinks last week. We both had steak. My friend is very paticular with her steak and how she likes it cooked and she was very impressed, as was I.I will definitely be returning for the burgers advertised on the chalk board, they sound incredible - I had no room for dessert but tried a spoonful of my friends biscoff cheesecake which was unreal! This is our third meal under the new management, service was a bit slow but that was because every table was full. Food excellent and the biscotte cheesecake is to die for. Already booked in for next Friday.

First visit here tonight. Had such a lovely experience. The new manager Deb is absolutely wonderful, and spends time with the punters, and gets stuck in alongside her team. Food was delicious, my steak was absolutely perfect! Couldn’t have asked for a better service. Thank for having us, we’ll definitely be back!

i was not impressed with the service or the food at this pub. We had a reservation at 18:00 and we was sat in a hidden away part of the pub because there was 6 of us and the waitress and the manager/owner walked pass our table many times and didn't come and ask for a drinks order or food. I had to go up to the bar twice to ask if someone could come over and take our drinks and food order because our children were hungry and thirsty. Finally after 25 minutes a waitress came over and took only our drinks order hen i asked if we could order both. We then had to wait another 10 minutes before she came back and took our order. The food came out all in bits and not all together. I ordered steak & chips cooked medium well and it came out rare. The manager came over and said that it will take sometime for another one, so i asked if they could just put it back on the grill because i was hungry and when it finally came out it was a completely different steak and was only given a steak knife and no fork so i used my daughters fork. After the slow service and terrible food we asked for the bill and left we didn't even want to stay for desert. Even with the 50% it came to £40. The price wasn't the problem but i would not have paid £70 if we didn't have the eat out discount. Thank god the chips were filling because we barely ate anything else. It was our first family meal out together and what a let down. I would recommend to anyone wanting to dine her to reconsider

Had a very nice meal this weekend and a bonus that it was included in the 'Dine Out to Help Out' scheme. Good vegetarian choice, which can sometimes be an issue and an excellent dessert menu! Good value for money and really attentive staff

We visited today for friend to celebrate her birthday. We found that it is now under new management and what a difference. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced.The staff were all very attentive and the new manager made time to come over and speak to us. We will definitely be returning. So pleased that my local pub is now a great place to visit.

Having heard that the King William was under new ownership we decided to go for an evening meal. My word, are we glad we did !! Won’t be getting the car out to go for a meal anymore when this gem is on our doorstep !!Debbie and her staff go that ‘extra mile’ to make customers most welcome, nothing is too much trouble for them.They have a varied menu and daily specials along with fabulous desserts. The food is presented beautifully and perfectly cooked, couldn’t find fault if I tried too !!

we have been to this restaurant twice now and cannot say enough how wonderful the food and staff are. To complete a great experience the manager, Deborah took the time to come and chat with us and make us so welcome. Also if you want somewhere friendly to take your dog and just have a drink this is the place to be. Cannot reccomend this place enough xxx

Tonight 25th Aug three of us went to the King William pub in Kempston and had what could only be described as a really memorable meal, cooked to perfection. The staff were so polite and courteous, nothing too much trouble. I understand that the King Bill as its known locally has just been blessed with a new manager, who's name is Deborah, this pleasant lady as busy as she is, still made time to come to our table for a brief welcoming chat, really making you feel that she cares for your custom. Will definitely be our local place to eat now.The King Bill rises above the rest, don't take my word for it, go yourself and the experience the fab food and service as we did.

I was just passing this lovely looking pub and decided to drop in for a sunday lunch and i must admit it was a good choice the service was excellent and i choose the roast beef it was cooked just to my liking and plentiful all in all great value and will definitely be returning thanks to the lovely staff and service at the king william

Enjoyed sitting in the shady garden, when it was really hot. Food, pub grub big menu, ate everything and liked the old beamed interior. Clean loos and cheerful, helpful service.

Took advantage of the eat in to eat out scheme and wonder if this establishment even realises the government are making up the shortfall? Ordered fish and chips. The fish was absolutely dripping in oil. I guess the oil wasn’t hot enough. Soggy batter served with undercooked hard fries! Feeling distinctly sick the following morning. Will never eat here again. Terrible awful food that has ruined my stomach.

Looking for a simple evening meal to avoid the need to cook after being at home for so long. Called in this evening looking for local place to eat found food main meals to be simple but very tasty. Staff were helpful and friendly will certainly return. Not overcrowded so able to eat with no concerns as meals available both outside and inside.
