Lovely cup of coffee, but inside is disgustingly dirty! white hand rails to toilets, thick with black grime, toilets filthy, looks like it has not been cleaned for about 50 years! dont understand why it not been shut down on health and hygiene issues! If thats the public view, thank god i never saw in kitchen!!

If you are in Melton Mowbray, don't miss this unique experience. Dining in Nigel's cafe was satisfying to all the senses; visually interesting, witty conversation - 'you wouldn't go to Egypt and miss the pyramids' and of course, the wonderful slice of pie with Stilton, chutney and quality bread. Such good value and thankfully, homely and unpretentious!

An independent coffee shop, tucked away behind the High Street. Tables outside for warmer weather. Inside quirky, with posters etc on the walls. Great staff service. I had a lovely coffe, and huge scone, warmed as requested, with pot of butter. Lots of regulars eating and drinking there, which made a great atmosphere. I was only in Melton Mowbray for the day, and it was highlight of my day. Highly recommend!

A very friendly and welcoming atmosphere in this coffee shop. We were directed there from the Melton Mowbray pie shop (which was closed but there was a sign outside directing us to this cafe for an authentic Melton Mowbray pork pie). There was a good choice of food on the menu. We opted for the Melton Mowbray pork pie and Stilton ‘special’ plates each which was delicious and filling. Exactly what we needed. It was well worth a visit and I highly recommend it.

A friend and I came to Nigel's for a lunch and drink. I had a bacon sandwich with a coffee and my friend had a coffee. My meal was very big and filled with lots of bacon. The cafe is lovely intimate place, great for a relaxing break from it all and beautifully decorated. If you want a nice view or simply have privacy, there are plenty of places. The service was busy and let you enjoy your meal/drink while they made and served other customers. The serving sizes are bigger than you'll get elsewhere. We had a great time chatting and drinking. The mood was warm and cosy. Thank you to the staff for making this get together even better than expected. David

Firstly, the chap behind the counter (maybe the owner) was superb and super friendly. The place also looked great and the local produce high quality. We loved the two big hitters the town was famous for. However, one of our dishes was completely forgotten, even after a reminder, we also didn’t get cutlery and the girls seemed to be struggling with the tables. System a bit strange as wasn’t sure how to order or where to pay. On the whole really good but some service jiggles. We enjoyed it

The owner is a really nice guy , we were made to feel really welcome. We decided to give the little cafe a go , rather than heading to our usual breakfast spot of the Montero lounge. my partner had poached egg on toast, the eggs had been done in a poacher ( shape was a big give away ) and yet they were still hard boiled ... not runny in the slightest. I had a bagel which was dry , burnt in places and pretty sad. A shame as the owner and staff were lovely, we will not be returning however. We would have had a much better breakfast experience at home !! Montero lounge does a fab breakkie if you are in the area.

I don’t know how I ended up here, and didn’t have the slightest clue where I was but the overall ambience of the venue seemed warm and friendly so I stumbled in. 10/10 for a lovely atmosphere. 5 minutes previously I was unceremoniously dragged naked from the boot of a car and left for dead. My assailants thought I was a lifeless corpse, but I had second thoughts about that, my old chap. I cut across into the charity shop opposite and dressed myself in a black fur coat and silver, glittery leggings from the window display. Sexily matched in patent leather high heels, and after leaving £5 near the till, I smooched my booty into the premises. Upon being refused entry by the rather large doorman, I turned around and stumbled into King Street Coffee Shop, where this story actually starts to begin...(10/10. Would recommend to anyone either A) Being unlawfully followed by ex-secret service officers or 3) Someone looking for a delicious meal after being dumped out of the boot of a medium-large size saloon). All I can say is the world is your oyster, unless you’re an oyster.

I detoured via Melton Mowbray to have a look at the town & try the Pie it’s famous for. After walking passed here I looked around town & skipping the chain coffee shops went back to this place. What a gem. I tried the “debate” a selection of pies (3) & with 3 different breads and a large slice of Stilton. Also butter & pickle. Fantastic. I couldn’t manage all 3 pieces of pie & brought one away for later ! The place looks interesting from outside & it does not disappoint. There is even a cellar seating area now. It’s subject to some landlord renovations at the moment but that didn’t detract. The staff are very friendly & happy to talk about the pies the cheese and Melton in general. I had the coffee & wasn’t expecting too much as it’s a pie / lunch shop. The Americans was lovely & quite the best I’ve had for a long time ! Well worth a visit. As to the debate ! In Melton for a change of scenery we wanted lunch but didn't know where to go. We'd walked past this place and were passing again when i thought we'd see what it was like. It was staffed by some young girls and was relaxed and laid back and really i thought these kids are a bit young..... It was a small place and looked too busy but a girl said there were more seats downstairs so we went into the cellar. It was a really quirky place to eat. Not really expecting much i looked at the menu and thought it looked way better than a little café would offer. A girl came down to take our order and she was so pleasant it made us hopeful for the food being as good. I ordered pork pie with Stilton as they sell themselves on their pork pies. My partner had pork pie and chips. Mine was absolutely fantastic and his was enormous.....a huge half of a pork pie with loads of chips for £5! This place is on 3 floors with the main counter on the middle floor and the cooking done on the top one. Those girls have to go up and down steep stairs all day with plates of food and they're still really welcoming. This place is well worth a visit. Don't make the mistake of thinking it's just another café. It's definitely something different and I'd go back to Melton just to eat there.

I have been going to this cafe for quite a few years and the service and quality are always very high. The owner, Nigel is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Any visit to Melton Mowbray, must include a visit here, get fed and watered and have a friendly chat with Nigel or one of his team. He is also the oracle for all things Melton and can always point out places to visit

We walked around Melton Mowbray looking for a decent coffee and chanced upon Nigel's Café. As we hovered around an outside table wondering if we should sit Nigel came out and asked if he could help. We asked for a strong decaf coffee - and it is amazing how many bad ones we have had in the past! The service was good and a short time later coffee was served. It was easily the best we had had in a long time.Although we didn't eat there we did see another couple receive their order and can say that portions are generous.

The service at 54a King street was excellent, the food was served promptly and the all the staff were very polite. I ordered a slice of the melton Mowbary pork pie (well you really have to being in melton don't you) which did not disappoint, my other dining companions ordered various meals that were also equally tasty and generous in portion size. The atmosphere in 54a is as you'd expect from an independent coffee shop these days, relaxed and a little quirky with a greats soundtrack! However, I've saved the best till last, somehow I had managed to leave my phone behind in the cafe and it was only on my way back to swansea on the train that I realised. fortunately the amazing staff kept my phone and posted it to me all the way to swansea! This is a superb cafe with excellent staff I will certainly be paying another visit when I am next passing through the midlands!

Stopped in Melton Mowbray for lunch on way back to Essex from Scarborough. Being a Sunday not many places were open but having visited 54A before we went there for lunch. 4 adults had lunch with cold drinks and the bill came to £29. Excellent value. Service was quick and as the sun was shining we even managed to sit outside in the sunshine whilst eating - bonus! Good honest food, reasonably priced and would visit again if in the area.

Me and my partner always go to this coffee shop for coffe, cake and lunches. We would recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere to eat or drink. The service is very friendly and the drinks and food are freshly made and always piping hot. They allow dogs into the shop which is great and they also now have wifi so perfect for business meetings. They also have a lovely outside seating area which is on the street, it's a beautiful place to sit and watch the world go by. This is a buzzing little coffee shop with plenty of regulars but you will be made to feel welcome by everyone and you will leave being a friend of Nigel's.

Arrived damp and late on a Sunday afternoon and the proprietor and his staff were more than accommodating. Excellent meaty pies, generous helpings of chips and pork pies to make your mouth water. Also very handy parking if you are out on a ride and just want a tea or coffee.Never mind the "coffee Chain" shops with their paper mugs, support the one man business, this one is especially worth it!

Popped in for lunch after visiting cheese festival. Staff not unfriendly but didn't seem to know what they were doing, kept forgetting to bring out all the drinks/food to us and what we'd ordered. Potato skins and sandwich really nice, but baked potato not cooked and had to be sent back. Want to be positive, maybe just an off day.

The large Tea cake... Is Large indeed. A nice warm cosy friendly place, good food, and plenty of seating. Rather nice in an old fashioned way, and good to see the owner mucking in, washing up and waiting tables. Our return business on the same day has to be a good recommendation I think.

We visited when the Pie competition was on 12th March 2016. Not only is there excellent food here the people are great and when we visited they had 2 very funny French chaps in - it was hilarious - but try their pork pie and their toasted tea cakes - I have never had a toasted tea-cake so large and tasty - a must treat if ever you are in Melton Mobray - opposite the toy shop near the cinema

We visited the coffee shop for a late lunch, choosing Melton Mowbray pork pie and Stilton cheese, both local specialities, and coffee. The food was freshly cooked to order. Every item was of the highest quality. The owner's attention to detail was evident with every item carefully chosen and well prepared. Our coffees were prepared exactly as we asked. The welcome was very warm, the service pleasant and polite. The bill was reasonable. This was a very good experience in every respect, and we will be returning very soon.

I've not been here before and decided to meet a friend for coffee. He suggested here. And I am glad he did. We ended up eating. I had the jacket potato with chilli, he had the tuna pasta bake. We didn't manage to finish our plates as the portions were very generous. Nigel was very friendly, the food was good. Cafe was clean. I would go again.

We enjoyed a lovely meal at the Rutland Arms for my mothers birthday. The food tasted great, fresh and so nice to try something a little different. The waitress, (I can't remember her name) but she was so lovely and chatty & an asset to the business. I would recommend to anyone wishing to enjoy a meal in nice surroundings with good food that won't break the bank. We will definitely be returning.

My wife and I were on coach trip to the Great Central Railway. We stopped in Melton Mowbray for a couple of hours and decided to have lunch. We saw Miss B's sign and thought we would have a meal there. I had the steak pie with stilton. It was an excellent choice, I really enjoyed it. My wife had a cheese and ham toastie which she also enjoyed.
