I hate leaving bad reviews but the carvery was bad. 2 choices of meat and they was the of cuts so not very nice, the vegetables was watery and just agen not very nice. I said that we have a vegetarian so no meat touching his, he used the same serving spoons meaning my dad has no idea what he could have, the tart was not even ready and to make matters worse they didn't even have vegetarian gravy, he couldn't really have nothing as he was just using 1 serving spoon for everything and it put him of so he didn't enjoy it. I'm very sorry to say we will not be returning.

This was only the second time we’ve visited as we don’t live too near, but this family pub is definitely worth travelling to. The pub itself has had a fairly recent change of ownership apparently and they’ve re-decorated throughout. It has a traditional English pub feel but with a modern and quirky edge; really comfortable and inviting, with a huge parking area and extensive outdoor seating areas for the summer. The owners are amazing; really friendly and chatty and can’t do enough to make sure you’re happy. We last visited on a Sunday and the carvery was delicious, lots of choice and all cooked really well. There also appeared to be a good array of beers and wine and at decent prices. We will definitely be visiting again soon and highly recommend it!!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. Booked today for Sunday lunch for 4 adults as had heard the pub was under new management and so had high hopes. How wrong we were. When we arrived we were offered drinks and asked to pay in advance for the carvery which we did and was given a buzzer to let us know when the carvery would be ready for us. We were then shown to our table. 2 people was waiting to be served and asked to go up by the staff. The pub was not busy only 3 tables in the restaurant and 1 in the main bar. We then sat there for another 25 mins waiting while the lady behind the counter kept checking the food (which had been covered up with foil) and kept going into the kitchen area, where I could see someone standing there eating. No one checked on us or came to see if we needed anything. Eventually one of the staff walked past and looked at us and then disappeared into the kitchen. Then our buzzer went off. We gave the lady our receipt and she looked very unhappy as they had only charged us for 4 children’s carvery’s (£11.95 expensive for a child’s meal). She was very rude and aggressive then refused to serve us and also disappeared into the kitchen. We were getting really fed up by this time. The bar staff then explained that we needed to pay the correct amount, ( which was their mistake not ours) which we offered to after we had been served as we had been waiting for over 40 mins at this point. She then walked away as well. Absolutely joke!!!!! After another 5 mins, at this point we decided to leave and have a refund. The staff were shouting at each other in the kitchen and arguing as to who’s fault it was and after seeing what was on offer food wise, it didn’t look very appetising we walked out. They only had beef or gammon pre sliced and looking a bit dried up. Frozen Yorkshire puddings or larger burnt ones. The potato’s looked frozen, not fresh roasties. The veg I didn’t get to look at. While waiting to get a refund for the food ( yes they charged for the drinks), I asked who was in charge and if the owners were about. I was told they were in the back but not available. No apology, no customer service, absolutely disgraceful. When I said I’d never return all I got was a sarcastic look and smirk from the bar staff. Disgusting behaviour. NO FOOD, NO CUSTOMER SERVICE and NO APOLOGY.

What a very disappointing lunch, From the meat being cooked then cut on a slicer to the veg being boiled to death. I have had better microwave meals that taste better than this food. The beef had been over cooked and because of this had become very tasteless. The frozen veg had lost its colour. The so called roast potatoes was just as bad only one choice of potatoes.. The best thing was the Yorkshire pudding. The meal was over priced for the quality of it. Its a shame when you can cook a roast at home much better. I am aware that the pub as not long been reopened , but they really need to bring there food up to par. Felt no point in saying anything to staff as had already had bad comment from landlord about a veggie meal. You have to order the day before. Also charged full amount for a carvery that was just vegetables. Was looking forward to a nice roast as well this wasn't it

Systems seem to be set up for owners, not customers. You pay up front for the carvery then get given a buzzer. There was no one else in the restaurant, but we waited for 15mins then called over, not buzzed, then a big party arrived, so felt quite rushed. The meat was over cooked and dried out. It was left under lights without being covered. The veg was bland. Boiled leeks, carrots, white cabbage, peas. Gravy tasteless too. We didn’t stay for dessert. It’s a shame. A lot of money has been spent on renovating the pub, it looks great. I don’t think the owners are customer focused at all. The daily menu is ‘ uninspiring’ and if it’s cooked by the same person- I’m not sure it will do very well. Just such a missed opportunity to be a great local, with well cooked, local interesting food. Just another example of someone running a pub that really shouldn’t be.

Well it is at least 25 years ago since last here. It's a bit like going back years as nothing appears to have changed. They do a carvery a couple of times a week the rest of the time it's a limited menu. We both had ham, egg and chips which was ok. But the whole establishment really could do with a full makeover, decor, furniture and carpets etc . And dont forget the loos. Interesting that another customer on the table next to me was heard to say that the hand dryer in the gents loo wasn't working. Actually it was and you just had to touch the top right hand corner but it's not at all clear. He like me wasn't impressed with the hand towel .! It may be another 25 years before we return - if still alive!

We visited this restaurant again after a long break, on their Wednesday Carvery at Lunchtime. As usual the food was delicious. Beef and Pork were the meats on the carvery, both were sumptuous, tender and delicious. The pork crackling was to die for, just melted in the mouth and gorgeous. Plenty of lovely vegetables, gravy and sauces to go with the meats. Trust me, this place cannot be beaten for quality and price. Had a Peach Melba for dessert. It's an old fashioned pub with florally carpets and fake beams. It wasn't very busy when we called in for a Saturday lunch. Like the pub, the menu is a bit old fashioned but cheap. One of us had the steak and ale pie which looked a bit like a school dinner but was said to taste ok and was a generous portion. My wife had scampi and chips which wasn't anything special. I had chilli which tasted very tomatoey but didn't have any kidney beans - not sure if they're a requirement. Puddings were OK and, again, cheap. If your main criterion for choosing where to eat is price, then this is a place for you, but don't expect anything special.

There is lots of choice on the carvery though some of it did look like it may have sat there for a little while - it was still tasty and excellent value. Other half had dessert and he said it was delicious. The main thing for this pubs dining area is it could do with major redecoration and brightening up, is very dated and drab. The pub has a lovely location right next to the church and really could be something special with a little investment and love.

All the meat (choice of two) was cooked well, not dry, veg was fresh and seasonal and not frozen, was again cooked well and all nice and hot..Basically the sort of roast dinner you'd expect mum to dish up at a homely family dinner, comfort food at its best... Prices were reasonable too.. with a choice of desserts...Décor, could, to be honest do with updating, but this does not detract from a very enjoyable meal, and the waiting staff were lovelyWould I eat there again.... This establishment is very welcoming and staff very helpful and friendly. This is not the first time myself and friends have been here, either in a group or individually for food. On this occasion my friend and i had the steak pie accompanied by fresh vegetables and a individual small jug of home made gravy.Result very moreish but could not eat it all. This meal again was value for money. The restaurant has a number of tables with lovely decor and a lovely atmosphere, very relaxing. The best thing about The King of Hearts is the friendly atmosphere, helpful staff and value for money food. Definitely recommend, but book a table to avoid disappoint.

We tried this restaurant last week as they do a mid-week carvery on a Wednesday. All the food was delicious especially the meat. The puds were also to die for with the White Chocolate Lumpy Bumpy being the star winner!! The only reason we have given it a 4 star rating is because there were only two meats to choose from, Beef and Gammon. We are not gammon fans for a roast dinner so it meant we all had to have beef, whereas some of us would have liked roast pork or turkey. But all in all, excellent food at a very reasonable price.

Best place to good for a good home cooked roast, in carvery form, been to the pub about 10 times in the 7 months I've lived here, and its been spot on every time, we even take our family there when they come to visit, they enjoy it also. Would recommend the family run pub to anyone. Keep up the good work.

Me and my partner and two children visited this pub recently, however I feel the need to write this review as all the staff working here were very rude, apon arrival we wasn't greeted and was told to wait whilst they cooked more roasts, we waited ages and wanted to leave but the kids wanted to stay, they serve you a tiny portion of meat and stare at you whilst you help your self to veg etc. None of the staff seemed happy to help at all and after eating our meal we was told to wait to pay! As there was not correct change. Women in charge very rude and unwelcoming, you must be local to enter here is their attitude. Would definitely not go there again, food is ok but service ruins it.

I have fond memories of eating here in the past. Many family gatherings in the main restaurant. The Sunday Carvery was always popular and good value. The pub was always full of people, indeed sometimes you had to wait for a table.Visited here one Saturday lunchtime with my mother....we were the only two occupants. The whole pub has the look of somewhere from the past. The menu dated, the food was not good, there was nobody behind the bar. I had to remove dirty plates and ask for service.Avoid this place unless a massive change takes place it will be closing soon.

Is it the worlds best carvery - no. But it is par for the course. You got a good slice or two of beef and then help yourself to all the veg you want and they had 3 or more types of veg.Had to ask for two Yorkshires otherwise would have gotten the default single pudding; (not sure why those are rationed, they have to be the cheapest thing to make). Gravy was yummy. Meal was good value all around. Service from the dining room staff was excellent. Carvery operator a bit grumpy.Wish there had been something other than carvery on Sunday to choose from, but as it happened carvery appealed when I got there. I passed on desert but one of my guest had pie and custard and it looked like a generous helping and they said it was nice. Looked made in house, but who can say.

We were pleasantly surprised - there was only the Carvery available on Sunday - But it was lovely - big portions and very good value for money - lots to choose from when it came to dessert (my favourite time) I had Apple and Blackberry pie - Scrummy - others had Lumpy Bumpy, Cheesecake & Spotted Dick. Big Car park - Easy to find. The only down side, was the decor - a bit rustic looking. Our waitress was very helpful (as we did not know what to do when we got there) & they even bought through the Lumpy Bumpy as we could not imagine what it was from the description given.

Quite a find, this Elgood's pub restaurant close to both Kings Lynn and Wisbech. Very reasonably priced meals served in what can be a very busy dining room, so best to book. Home-cooked food served with a smile and a decent pint!

The carvery was excellent with plenty of choice of meats and vegetables and all that comes with it. IN the week it is very good value but Sunday is about the same as elsewhere in the area.It does get quite crowed so best to book beforehand. Plenty of parking availableI think the standard of cleanliness all round could be improved on.

was down to visit family and was taken to the King Of Hearts for a Sunday lunch. I was expecting a nice home cooked dinner. The waitress which bought us drinks seemed too young to even work and didn't seem to know what she was doing when we asked about going up to get our food. the vegetables were soaked in water and had been out too long! the cabbage had gone crispy and the peas were white and discoloured. So certainly didn't seem fresh. The meat and roast potatoes were the only thing on the carvery which actually seemed fresh. The Yorkshires were clearly frozen as were like rubber and mash potato was gloopy and struggled to get it off the spoon with no taste whatsoever. when we had finished and went to pay, the front of house didn't seem to be bothered and was unhelpful and unpolite. A very disappointing visit and would definitely not recommend it.

I had not been here for a while and was looking for a place that would do a sunday lunch at 5pm as I had been at work all day and wanted to take out family members. The welcome was a let down , no atmosphere , lunch average / ok for time of day, felt staff had no energy left and were waiting for 7pm when service finished, 1 waitress said hello when entering that was it. tired décor in side, outside has been painted but interior seems to have been forgotten, needs bringing into 21 century new tables and chairs , brighter walls etc.

The restaurant is ok, pretty much what you would expect from this type of pub. We decided it would be much nicer to have our lunch "takeaway" in the comfort of our own home.At only £6.50 it represents excellent value. The pork and beef are always beautifully cooked, lovely crackling. The mash is always creamy and the cauliflower cheese is very flavoursome . The only disappointment and something that would make sunday lunch excellent, would be, home made roasties and yorkshires, or , at least roast the potatoes, instead of deep frying them.

Sunday lunch for a group is always a gamble and an organiser always worries in case things go wrong. However we need not have worried - mine host was extremely helpful and the service was excellent . The food was a carvery meal which was well cooked and presented (not dried up under the lights as some carveries are). The starters were tasty as were the desserts - both with ample choice. Would highly recommend this pub restaurant.

The carvery is great, wide choice of fresh veg (take as much as you wish) the meat is melt in the mouth (no chewing here) There is a good selection of deserts. The owners will always make every effort to ensure your experience is a good one.

12 of us had a carvery lunch on Sunday 9th June 2013. There was a long table for us and we sat down to prawn cocktail which was freshly made. Then we went to the carvery and there was a big joint of pork and one of beef. I had the beef which was melt in your mouth. There were plenty of fresh vegetables ranging from cabbage, a lovely cauliflower in cheese sauce, peas carrots, roast potatoes and mash potatoes plus horseradish sauce and apple sauce and gravy of course. The dessert menu was extensive - I had lemon lush as all the lemon meringue had gone! My friend had profiteroles which was huge! All in all 12 very satisfied customers.

The pub could do with a massive clean, the carpet and decor were extremely tired. There are even the remnants of Xmas decorations up. The man behind the bar couldn't be bothered and gave the impression that he needed a shave and shower, the waitress had dirty clothes on. To be fair it was a weekday lunch, so why make an effort. Won't be going back

My family of 3 decided to eat there today we was left very disappointed. Very unhelpful staff when we first arrived. No hello or even a smile! 10 minute wait for a drink at the bar. No hello or sorry to keep you waiting.A extremely dull atmosphere in the restaurant. And very cold. The carvary. Well eat here if you love a aunt Bessie dinner. Aunt Bessie Yorkshires and roast potatoes. Smash mash potatoes and the veg did not look appetising at all. The meat options was beef or pork, but the beef was tough that IF a member of staff came over to ask 'if everything was ok' or even had been In the room I would had asked for a steak knife! I left it. I can't comment on the desserts as we wasn't offered any! Very poor show!

Probably my worst WS meal ever. 3 sausages almost burnt, they were tasteless and well overcooked which I said to the server who grinned at me. The chips as usual most were hard and inedible, peas hard. Served in a bowl with gravy all over the chips. WS has had a problem with hard chips for months, I have complained to staff and emailed head office to no avail. Thats it I AM NOT eating at a WS any more.
