First of all the food was ok. Just ok. However I don't think I have ever waited this long in a fish shop for food. I had to wait nearly ten minutes to be served and then another 20 to get my food. The staff were polite enough but they don't seem to do much.

Went last week (4th August 2024) for the first time, it being teatime and another 30 plus miles to home! We had fish and chips and it was excellent! Good sized portion! Chips were just how I like them - soft inside and crisp on the outside, nice size chip, not too many scrappy end bits! Fish was white and delicious, good batter, just right - so good that the little empty bit on the side I normally leave, but I scoffed the lot this time!

Wow! Myself and my boyfriend were craving a chippy so we thought we’d try here. I got the medium fish and chips and my partner got the fishcake and chips. It was so delicious 😋 I don’t understand these reviews as I genuinely was just so impressed 💗 will definitely be ordering from here again! Thank you.

Awful. Chips had been mildly threatened with heat and barely cooked. This coupled with the terrible curry sauce and a jumbo (chicken) non-sausage, means its the worst chippy tea purchased in some time.

bought two LIGHTLY battered fish could not find the fish in one plus the batter on the 2nd was overbattered so fish very hard to find. Have been to King Kod a lot but have not been for a while and will NOT be going again

Stopped here heading home at 8:15pm on Good Friday. It was fairly busy, (which at least means the chips will be fresh.) I was pleasantly surprised by a warm welcome and good service. I ordered Haddock, fresh, sweet, perfectly cooked and delicious. The chips and mushy peas were also lovely - freshly cooked and a generous portion of chips. All were packed seperately and with a free fork thrown in. Can't understand the recent negative reviews - I'm from Hull and we know a bit about our national dish. These were as good as any I've had. Recommended!

it is very expensive which would be acceptable if the food was ok, it was awful, cold, no taste, fish cooked within an inch of its life, absolutely terrible at least we know to never go back, had to leave a star as trip advisor insisted but it deserved no stars

Just had fish and chips from here and they was attrocious. Dry old chips and batter with a tiny bit of fish.. It was supposed to be a large fish would not go again..

Had to wait for chips to be cooked! No problem if they were ! Sausage was chicken (wtf) I see now it says that on menu !! How bizzare . The pie ! Well I saw the young lass pop it in Chef Mic but I think she magical cooled it rapid , as stone cold !! A really poor effort here . My closest chip shop and beed gradually getting worse .

Ordered lightly battered cod! And when we got home had virtually batter on a flat fish which was totally tasteless and disgusting! This should never ever be allowed! Never ever to return ever! Don’t waste your money I’ve felt sick since I tried found the bit of fish in the batter!!

Well I'm truly astounded by these negative reviews !!!Visited here (blackpool road) yesterday for the first time and I can honestly say its the best fish and chips we've had for years. We both thoroughly enjoyed it and the gravy is to die for....so much so that I wanted to go back today but its closed. Roll on next weekend when we'll definitely be going back for more. The young blonde behind the counter was very pleasant and polite.

I only ever go here if I can't be bothered for some reason not to go further afield to Queen Vic chippy ( which is amazing ) as the portion sizes at King Cod are tiny and the chicken sausages are vile :-(

Decided to have a chippy tea the other day and went to King Kod on Blackpool road as it's the nearest to our home. The chips and the jumbo sausage were undercooked and the woman who served us was rude. We'll stick with Evan's chippy from now on.

Large type '£2.50 FOR FISH AND CHIPS' special offer posters strategically pasted in the windows are shrewd businessmenship. Classic tactic - They buy a small daily portion of special offer-worthy fish from the mongers.I don't imagine there's many as I've never been able to purchase them. Once they sell out (pretty rapidly with the small quantity) the customers have no option but to buy the standard menu offerings or leave.But once you've committed yourself to having f&c it's not realistic to walk away. Which is what King Kod owners rely on.Not only that, butbthen they charge you EXTRA to have the fish and chips packed separately.The counter then ends up walking away feeling shortchanged having paid nearly twice what he expected to.Enough is enough, I'll stick with 'Queen Vic' instead.

Usually i enjoy going to king kod but today i an Appauled at service i have received today. I went into the blackpool road store to get a anniversary treat for me and the wife. Upon entering i politely asked for a fish to be put in the fryer as it was rather busy. I was then snapped at by the person behind the counter . I was told there was already fish in and to “go away”. If that wasn’t enough i had order a meal with gravy and upon unwrapping it at home there was none . Needless to say i will not be going back the KING KOD any time soon.

This review concerns the Ashton Chippy, which I've used due to its closeness to my home. Whilst the chips portions are more than satisfactory, the fish sizes vary considerably, and you take pot luck. My preference is "lightly battered" which can mean different things to whichever staff are on duty. Whilst the fish are ordered on arrival, and are therefore served hot, this does not apply to the chips, which at quiet times, can have been in the range for quite a long time, and are therefore served virtually cold. Not good...

been buying large fish twice a week for months you can tell the large fish they have to be broken 3inch on tail to fit in box !!!!!yesterday same order as the last years order of large fish very lightly battered last night ordered same ...seemed funny how it fit right in the box !!! when I picked it up it was very light as I'm used to large cod ...not on full charge £5,for small fish . come on king kod dont start ripping us off ..Dave

We have been to all three establishments Plungington, Fulwood And Lea over the years and was very impressed over the first year. However on my last few visits to the different takeaways I have found that the standard has dropped considerably. The Fish is the same size but most of this is now batter the chips are of a poorer quality and the younger generation staff spend more time on their phones than addressing clients. So our visits have now come down to zero I am sorry to say.

I went in for sausage and chips and the chips taste bitter like the fat has gone off! The sausage had a weird taste and was very rubbery! Totally disgusting !!! It went straight in the bin! Not even edible!!!! Stay away !!!!

Went into the Ashton branch yesterday and enjoyed the best fish and chips for a long time. The 3 girls, Tina Ella and Olivia were all smiles whilst we were being served too.

No complaints about the quality of food although I have just had fish and chips from it. Prices are better than most with very good lunchtime specials but full prices better than most. Clean and sevice fine.

This is a consistent chippy. regular visit here. Fish very fresh and tasty. Good portion sizes. Lunchtime specials, good value and pleasant service. Very clean and childrens option available.

Got sausage, chips and gravy from there and it was disgusting, the sausages are spiced and do not compare to proper chippy sausages, the gravy is cheap and nasty and the chips crap too, cheap frozen ones With lots of scrappy bits. I threw the majority of it away and will never go there again, wouldn’t recommend anyone else does either!

Food is good but recently noticed that staff has stopped wearing head gear..looked very professional and more hygienic...

I think Farmoods are their wholsale market. Cheap frozen chips, instant gravy, unbranded pies. I felt sick after eating. Way too expensive for that.

Good quality fish and chips. Friendly staff. Fast service. Halal food available to those that may need this as a dietary requirement. Clean shop. No place to eat in though. Prices are reasonable. No parking around so need to be aware of double yellow lines and traffic wardens. Unless you want to park in one of the side streets near by and walk a short distance. They have some lunchtime offers. I would recommend this place to friends and family. Close to the university so may attract students studying at Uclan. Thanks

Well this place has gone down hill! Soggy, raw batter, 'stale' half cooked chips and scampi which smells off! No wonder it was almost empty at Friday tea time. Disgusting. That will be the last visit for me.

So many places were closed on Friday 22nd and it was difficult to know where to eat but King Kod came to the rescue. I was able to pre-order food for 11 people and when we arrived to collect it they were just finishing the order off. Service is always very good and today was no exception. The food was as good as it always is - chips are lovely and fluffy and we were able to have scraps (yippee) which just completed our different dishes. King Kod deserve to do well because they continually serve excellent fish and chips and are always so pleasant. This just finished our working week off really well before Christmas.

If anything I would say the food has improved!! We like a lightly battered fish and the staff are always very obliging, although they inform you that you will have to wait a few minutes for the fish to be cooked. I can assure you that the chips are not refried as when waiting I have seen the staff put fresh ones in not like other fish and chip shops where I have actually seen then reheat the chips.

With various visits over many years the place is clean and tidy with friendly staff, the food is ok, not the best and certainly not as good as in the past but it will do for a quick and easy meal.

This is the first time that I have posted a criticism on King Kod. My wife called in at lunchtime to buy two small fish & chips, they said that they had none available and offered fish bites & chips instead. She accepted the offer and came away with our lunch. The fish bites were OK but in no way exceptional whereas the chips were hard, and obviously refried - they were awful and got dumped forthwith. I hope that this not a sign that King Kod are losing their way.

I don't like the Halal food or oil they cook in from here. I nip in for family but not for myself. The prices are reasonable enough though.

El único inconveniente es que me gustaría que el personal lo sonrisa más no importa pero, un servicio con una sonrisa sería bueno como lo hacen con King Cod en Ashton :-). . .

Masa demasiado en proporción al pescado. Lejos demasiado aceite. No recién cocinado. El personal es un poco lo tomas o lo dejas.

Con tanta competencia, el dueño de King Kod debe haber pensado mucho sobre apertura de la primera tienda en la calle, y el Plungington segunda tienda en la calle Blackpool. Su resultado es espectacular, ya que pronto la gente pescada en con que, aunque sus precios son un poco más altos que otras tiendas de pescado frito con patatas fritas, King ofrecen una gran Kod pedazo de pescado debidamente preparado y no quemado y buena, patatas fritas esponjosas. Este se sirve en un recipiente de retención de calor para llevar a casa y encontrar todavía caliente y delicioso para comer. El típico de tartas, empanadas, bebidas también están disponibles a precios razonables. Muy popular entre los cristianos no usan solamente como puro aceite de maíz para cocinar.

Went in, no queue, ordered a small fish chips with mushy peas.A little shop but the aroma is just so inviting. Friendly staff served with a smile.I was offered salt'n'vinegar which I accepted, lots off it! I was very hungry and this meal really filled that hole.Awkward to park as it's on a main busy lane, but worth the travel. Only issue is that the lovely batter on the fish is not so crispy when I got it home. Instead, the batter was soft and moist. Not how I like it. But there's nowhere nearby to eat & sitting in a car is not ideal.

Fresh off holiday we decided we fancied a good old classic. Always use this place and they never disappoint. You can see why they win awards here and even though every time I order I get regular portions I never finish them. I'd love to see what large is like.

Very good value for money! Sometimes you pay far too much for what you get where as this chippy you get loads for what you pay. Loved the fish!

There is a certain chippy at the end of Strand Road in Preston, that bears absolutely no comparison to King Kod. The latter chippy gives high quality and a ginormous portions of chips and my wife and I usually get one normal portion and share it between us and still can`t manage to eat them all. You can buy 3 sizes of fish, small, regular and large. Whatever size you opt for, it will be done in melt in the mouth, golden batter and if you get chips, you will need a carrier bag to get them home. If you need fish and chips for a family of five, you will need to bring the car and a trailer.That last sentence was a joke by the way.They make their own gravy to their own recipe which is quite delicious and I think that they also have their own recipe for the batter that they use. Sometimes you may have to wait 5 minutes or so to get your food but be patient - it`s worth the wait.I just wish that they hadn`t gone down the illiteracy road so common in businesses these days and used the letter C instead of the letter K.

I called in here last week to pick up Fish & Chips twice, there was a small queue but I just ordered, paid & sat down for the fish to be cooked. Normally my wife & I have King Kod's version of "small" Fish & Chips @ £3.00 each, this time they apparently had no small F & C available so I ordered and paid for normal F & C @ £4.50 each. They were, as usual, delicious but neither of us can cope with so much food, so inevitably quite a bit was left and thrown away. It is a pity that KK do not recognise that they are on to a winner with their small helpings - just the right price and quantity! So come on King Kod buy in a lot more of the small cod cuts that suit most people that I have spoken with.

Bought a portion of Fish and Chips from this restaurant and I have to say that it was excellent. The fish was so flaky and soft, with the perfect amount and consistency of batter. This, along with the chips that were so crispy and soft, made a great meal. I really recommend the curry sauce with the meal.Even the packaging was great. The boxes which they put the fish and chips in were very nicely designed etc.WELL DONE KING KOD!

Really enjoyed this place, fish nice and plenty of chips - would definitely visit again. This place rates as good or better than other ones in the area.

Ordered 3 fish and chip specials with peas and gravy. The food is so fresh and the peas and gravy are fantastic! Gravy is proper Chip shop gravy and the fish was so fresh! Would definitely recommend!!

Ordered chips sausage n gravy at lunchtime "special". Took one mouthful and had to throw everything away. The chips were were undercooked, the sausage had green herbs in (hope they were herbs) and the gravy had a Pakistani or Indian flavour tang to it. A chippy should be traditional and bit messed with. Such a shame.

Found this place by chance, lucky us.Clean, good service and yummy food. Good choice too. Noticed it was busy but service was organised so not too long a wait. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was presented nicely and the chips verging on excellent.

Went to King Kod for Fish and chips when the confusion with my order was sorted all was bagged and I set off for home.To be fair the fish was ok but the chips my goodness talk about all dried out was an understatement!Its the last time I will be going to what once was a cracking "Chippy"I cant fault the cleanliness of the place its a clean shop.I hope that things on the food front improve

had the lot from here... chips are ok - i miss the good old days of greasy chips, though. sausages are terrible - they are chicken/turkey sausages because the place is halal. the pie are decent - chicken tikka pie is a treat. loads of scraps available... fish is good. bit expensive. fine, but nothing to write home about.

This is not our regular fish and chip shop but we've always thought it looked impressive. Called in one Friday night in the way home from work. It is spotlessly clean and the fish and chips were perfect. Definitely recommended

During the football season we usually have a take away from here once or twice a month but standard of their chips varies. Sometimes ok (not outstanding) and other times really soggy. However, the fish has always been ok.

Me and the BF ordered fish and chips from the Blackpool Road shop. Portions were put into cardboard trays. When we got home our food was still hot. Our meal was delicious. I will definitely return. Very good value.

Short and sweet...We ordered fish and chips from the Blackpool Road branch of King Kod. The customer area is well presented with nice tiled floor and walls, great decor! Great fish and chips, if you get this right then you can't go wrong! No complaints on this visit and happy to call again.

You get good value at king kod. Fresh ingredients and not greasy like some chippy's. The interior is clean and the staff friendly.

Popped in peak time 17.45 on my way to work waited in line for 10 mins made my order to be told no barm cakes sounds petty but a complete waste of my time so had to go to another food outlet which had all the items listed on there menu. Then I was late for work.

My wife & I usually call here on a Saturday lunchtime at any time after 11.30am. We order the same every week - 2 small Fish & Chips at £2.50 each, and we always enjoy them. They represent excellent value for money, they taste great and the staff can be quite chatty too.

Best fish and chips around, look out for the monthly special offers, excellent value, even if the shop does get busy as a result. Great taste, winner of many awards, Chippy of the Year 2015, 2014 and probably more .
