King John Pub in Liverpool

We visited midweek and the pub was very quiet. The pub itself was spacious, the beer fine and reasonably priced for a city centre location. If you are visiting England and looking for a traditional quaint English pub then this is not the place to visit. However, if you want a decent pint at a reasonable price in the city centre midweek, then this is an option for you

My twin brother and I were pub hopping around this part of the city, the Cavern Quarter when we decided to drop into The King John Pub,been here before, always had a good time and so it proved on our latest visit. I love the look of this pub,interior is superb, a solid wood serving bar dominates the main room, lovely decor and furnishings with a definitive medieval theme here and there's plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside looking out onto the busy and bustling Mathew Street. We arrived on the happy hour, lucky us,happy beers,we got pints of beer from Carling Brewery, these were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling and at only £2.60p a pint amazing value for a city centre pub, we chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub while we sipped our beers. My beer was really good, a golden, light and hoppy lager style beer bursting with taste and very easy to drink especially when served freezing cold as in this pub, it was just so good being in such a lovely pub enjoying a delicious beer and sat with my twin brother, best beer companion in the world. We both really enjoyed our beers in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to The King John Pub we had a great time. The King John Pub is easy to locate along Mathew Street, a street and area teeming with pubs, bars, cafe's and restaurants and a major tourist destination. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday, open from midday. Well worth checking out if you're in the Cavern Quarter of Liverpool.

There is definitely potential in this place. But I never got such bad cocktails in my entire life. Absolutely disgusting, the mojito was an absolute impudence. How bad can a barkeeper be?

Ci sono appena uscito. Avevo chiesto una pinta di Carling per la mia compagna ed una di Guinness per me. La prima pinta è subito arrivata, ma la mia Guinness... Mi hanno proprio ignorato per mezzora dicendo che c' era fila di clienti prima di me. Alla fine ce ne siamo andati ma i soldi ae li erano subito intascati. Va bene che c' era gente in concomitanza di San Patrizio ma ae non sapete servire ed organizzare almeno NON rubate i soldi ai clienti. Sconsigliatissimo anche per la musica che ti sfonda i timpani!!

Great night to start with but then unfortunately due to health problems I was sick in the toilet and the bouncers came in and marched me straight out even though I wasn’t drunk was just feeling unwell but they weren’t interested in that, I was just tarred with the brush of she’s obviously had too much to drink, very embarrassing and totally wrong in the way it was done. Bouncers very rude and aggressive

Great time at King John located on Matthew Street. Fun atmosphere. Traditional pub with DJ playing a terrific mix of music on a Saturday night.

Good place to go if you feel like getting attacked. We visited here in august and while the pub had a great interior and an ok atmosphere it has the worst and most aggressive bouncers I’ve ever encountered. A short female bouncer asked me to leave because I spilled a tiny bit of drink from the 3 pints I was carrying. She became irate and shoved me out the door, thinking that was the end of it , I was then followed further up the street by male bouncers who had no interest in hearing what I had to say . The had no business jumping on me especially as I was outside and away from the door, things escalated quick and I was put face down on the concrete with knees pinned into my neck and back all the while being taunted by this female bouncer. I would advise people to avoid here purely on the ground that the door staff are horrible and seem to look for trouble . Also bear in mind this was 1pm in the afternoon, it’s not how so called professionals are supposed to conduct themselves.

Great place for music, drinks and a great time!

Lovely bar staff. The bar itself was great and the vibe was fantastic. I would give this place 5 stars if it wasn’t for the very rude bouncer outside the pub. He wouldn’t let me back in after I popped out, because he didn’t like me wearing tracksuit pants. I’m not so annoyed about his decision, even though I personally think it’s a silly rule. What I’m really angry about is the fact that he spoke so aggressively. He’s a horrible person and doesn’t deserve to be working there.

I am a local and me and my partner are always in the king john we see it as another home we love it and sharon makes it extra special she is under valued and under paid i cannot believe how badly she has been treated they have made a hugh bigbmistake taking her off the bar this week and moving her to keiser sharon is amazing always smiling and the best cocktail maker there is and we will have to sadly stop coming in here if the situation isnt rectify which would be a real shame now if they took one of the other staff off say jason ok it be a waste of eye candy as he is a delight to look at but is the worst cocktail maker i have ever come across but i hapoen to know of another bar that would love sharon to work for them and value her but she loves her regulars in town and the king john will lose out if she isn't put back on the bar as a regular

Cocktails fantastic made to perfection by girl behind bar. Great customer service. Even better there Monday and 2 for £10 or £8 depends on what cocktails.

Great spot for an afternoon drink - Myself and my boyfriend were in Liverpool for the weekend and were looking for a nice place to sit outside and have a drink. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a super friendly member of staff (we didn't get her name!) and she took our cocktail order. She then proceeded to chat to us, detailing how she was making the drinks, while throwing in mention of some good tourist spots. The drinks were incredible and extremely well-priced! There was also live music that added to the atmosphere. Prior to leaving Liverpool, we returned and received the exact same service and even better drinks :D Open from midday til late

Great little bar. Sat outside, door staff were great in helping us with drinks being in plastic cups etc for outside. Bar staff were good and I saw a guy being trained and he was being taught very well that whenever your pour spirits and wine you do it on the front of the bar. As an ex bar manager, so many places are lazy with that and was great to see good behaviours being trained! Lovely place and highly reccommend!

A very good bar on Mathew Street Liverpool Monday to Friday 11 am to 6 pm £2.50 a pint well worth a visit ... this place is highly recommend if there is a group of you lots of room

Walking down Mathew Street my twin brother Stephen and I decided to drop into The King John Pub and what a nice time we had. A great looking pub ,it's got an unusual look to it ,a sort of Gothic/ Tudor look ,dark wood features ,a cool looking serving bar ,great decor and furnishings and superb wall art plus big screens to enjoy the sport and lots of seating options both inside and outside looking out onto the always busy and bustling Mathew Street. We ordered beers from Carling Brewery ,these were served iced cold and sparkling ,we chilled out and took in the great pub we were in. Not my normal tipple ,more a real ale and craft beer fan myself but this beer was freezing cold ,bursting with taste and just so easy to drink ,it was just so good being in such a great pub enjoying a delicious beer. We really enjoyed our beers in here before we moved on and as on every previous visit go here we had a great time. The King John Pub is easy to locate along Mathew Street. The King John is a medieval themed pub in Mathew street that offers a fantastic range of drinks and was one of the many pubs we visited on a pub crawl in the city centre. This brilliant pub has a unique interior with many interesting fixtures and features and a superb bar.With great seating areas and many TV screen's throughout this pub'it's a superb pub to relax and unwind. We visited here late in the afternoon and it wasn't that busy.When we visited we had a few glasses of Carling brewery fruit cider a superb cider which where refreshing.This is a superb pub in a brilliant area and is easy to get to as it's on Mathew street.(This is my third review of the King John). Walking around the Cavern Quarter my twin brother Stephen and I dropped into The King John Pub as the rain hammered it down and what a nice visit. This pub has a really good interior ,it's got a great looking serving bar that dominates the main room ,medieval style decor and furnishings ,big screens to enjoy the sport ,great wall art and lots of seating options ,it's a cool pub to chill out in. We were here on a Tuesday afternoon ,pub was surprisingly quiet ,we ordered a guinness each ,these were poured in the correct manner even allowing time for the all important settle ,we chilled out and took in the great pub we were in. Guinness served in here was superb,a thick,creamy and most importantly iced cold guinness that was just so delicious . We really enjoyed our guinness in here before we moved on and as on every other visit to here we had a great time. The King John Pub is easy to locate along Mathew Street ,a street teeming with pubs and bar and with it's connections to The Beatles a major tourist destination. Well worth checking out if you're in the area.

It was very embarrassing when bar-woman just ignored you and then asks the order of the next man and woman in line just by looking at you. and when you call the manager, the manager just gives a thumbs up. and finally, from the £20 bar-lady gives you ten pounds change by coins, humiliating me even more. very unpleasant!

Went in 12.30 on Saturday £2.50 a pint 1pm when it was getting busy price shot up to £5.30 a pint. Just ripping people won't be back.

If I could give it zero stars I would. My step dad was jumped in this pub by 7 men and the bouncers stood there and did nothing then proceeded to kick my step dad out. It’s absolutely disgusting, he only asked if someone could move out the way so he could see the TV. DO NOT GO HERE. The security is awful and don’t even deserve to have a job here.

I felt I had to write a review, as this pub seemed underrated. I loved the interior. The pub seems to be in two sections - one a traditional, medieval looking pub and the other is a larger room, with a modern looking bar and a live performer (singer with a guitar). You cross a tiny covered alleyway, lined with statues of (presumably) the Beatles, to get from one side to the other. We ordered a drink in the medieval section and took it next door. I would go back again if we visit Liverpool, to sit in the medieval section and have a drink.

I have been to Liverpool a few times and on each occasion made a beeline for this Pub-well not any more! Having spent all evening there the night before and having a great time, we went there the following afternoon having had a great afternoon in a pub further along Mathew Street (sorry we left there now). I went to the bar and ordered 4 drinks after being given my change I queried it, after a few minutes wait for the 'manager' I was given a copy of my receipt where it was clearly marked I had been charged for an extra drink to the value of £2.80. I explained that I had had 4 drinks not 5 to be constantly told that the till says 5. My drinks were still there for him to count but he kept on saying I didn't understand I understood fully having added up the drinks to prove it but to no avail. I can appreciate times have been tough for everyone especially hospitality. I work for the NHS and I am not in the habit of telling lies and wouldn't dream of trying to rip people off. I was so angry we had to leave having telling the barman who served me what I thought. I was very disappointed to be treated this way such a shame as I had built this pub up with friends who hadn't visited before sadly I will not be back to be treated in this manner. If you plan on visiting this pub order drinks 1 at a time!

It's great to be out and about again visiting some of the great pubs our city is justifiably famous for, walking down Mathew Street is cool again since some of the coronavirus lockdown restrictions have started to be lifted for the hard hit hospitality sector and sitting outside The King John Pub was awesome. I like this pub ,the interior is smashing ,wonderful evocative decor and furnishings, nice wall art and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside looking out onto the now busy and bustling Mathew Street, this is were we chose to sit as it was outside service only, we luckily managed to get a table were we track and traced and ordered a guinness each, these were served in excellent condition, we just kicked back, chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub. My guinness was outstanding, a rich,thick, creamy and most importantly iced cold guinness bursting with taste, very easy to drink, after 14 weeks of lockdown it was just so good to taste a draught guinness and to be honest socialising again albeit socially distanced. We really enjoyed our guinness in here and the great vibe so much so that we ended up staying for another guinness each before moving on and as on every other visit to here we had a great time. The King John Pub is easy to locate along Mathew Street, a street and area teeming with pubs, bars and restaurants. Most definitely well worth dropping into if you're in the Cavern Quarter.

Good pub except ordered smirnoff ice was charged £4.30, but on menu its priced £3.50 went to the bar, they said menu is misprinted so 1, why is the menu in use and 2 why is it that we cannot get the difference repaid as its not the customers fault the menu is wrong!!
