King Dumpling in Preston

Absolute gem of a restaurant in Preston. Delicious, authentic Chinese cuisine, with a wide array of flavours and dishes. Easily in my top three places to eat of all time. I have visited over three years for my favourites- the lamb and carrot mix fried dumplings and the chicken fried rice, and the food is always consistently delicious. I’d highly recommend trying their lemon iced tea as well. The atmosphere is pleasant and relaxing, and the staff accommodate their customers well (the menu is fully Halal and there are vegetarian options available too). The cutlery is charming and unique, with similar decorative elements found throughout the interior. I hope to continue coming here for a long time. The location is close to the University Campus and Bus Station, so if you’re nearby, consider making a trip!

I had the beef noodle soup and I must say it was fantastic. The beef was tender, the noodles soft with a slight bite to them, but the star of the dish is the broth. It has peppercorns, roasted garlic amongst other ingredients. I’ll definitely go back to try the dumplings.

My daughter brought me to King Dumpling for lunch. You can get a bowl of lovely egg fried rice and a drink for just a fiver. We tried some of the dumplings and loved them too. Simple, straightforward and tasty food. Very nice thank you. I hope to be back again soon.

Sorry, no photo. One of the worst dining experience in UK. We ordered vegetable dumplings and beef noodle. The noodle is soft, the soup is salty but no hint of beef. I believe the instant noodle I brought in oriental supermarket is taste better. The dumplings skin is good, the problem is the ingredients insdie. Usually the vegetable in dumplings will chop into small pieces. This is first time I tasted vegetable chop by a blender. When you bite into a dumpling, the material you eat is still like liquid and has no bite. You can taste the original taste of vegetables. This is the no.1 worst dumplings I tried in my life. Hope this is only our family unlucky experience. Bless you. Undated after the king replied my comment. Usually I won't, but I do feel you are not accept any ture comment. I paid and I don't like to waste any food. I am not embarrass, the only thing I don't eat is shxt. Lucky, I finished your dishes. Hope this make you feel better. Food was great as always and staff were friendly

My go too place for Chinese food in Preston. To be honest, I wasn't a big Chinese food fan until King Dumpling appeared in Preston. It just feels real, rather than a pastiche of what people think Chinese food should be. Great food. Great service. And staff full of character.

Very poor service worst place to dine in Preston, if you try to complain the lady will just attack you and refuse to serve you and anyone you know. Don’t waste your money on companies like this who discriminate and cannot take any feedback.

Staff and the owner are extremely rude. We come to eat to have a good time with the mates and order some food. We asked to eat with Chopsticks as we've always appreciated different cultures and experience how it's supposed to be eat and we know how to use chopsticks. Staff refused to give us chopsticks and came out with an offhanded comment "You don't look like someone who can use chopsticks" I urge everyone to not come here ever.

Really good food, hands down the best dumplings in Preston. Such a shame the service is absolutely horrendous! I’ve had multiple poor encounters with the same lady at the front who takes the orders. On google they say they are open till 10pm but turns out it wasn't, we were told two weeks ago last order is 8pm and they finally amended their opening times on google. Upon arriving today at 7:30 they lady in the kitchen saw us we waited a few minutes for this other lady to finally come out from the back shouting random gibberish from the kitchen. she then came closer to tell us we cannot eat in as its too late. Why did she not tell us this weeks ago when we asked what time last order is? Any competent establishment would have informed us as such. Other very poor experiences include waiting over an hour for food in an empty restaurant and once we ordered over the phone for collection and were advised the food would be ready in 15 minutes. 18 minutes had elapsed I was parking outside to collect my food and the same lady begins blowing up my phone with calls. Whoever this arrogant lady is shes really puts a massive damper on a place which offers amazing food. Also as a side note they say they are open till 8:30 pm however takeaway last orders is 8pm and eat in orders is earlier. Theres also been instances where she has gotten our order wrong and shes assumed racial sterotypes. EDIT: just seen the owners butt hurt responses to other poor reviews. Good luck trying to pass this off as fake and I’ll be happy to say it all to your face. Lol she doesn’t know service to paying customers is a part of her job. Further Edit: Instead of apologising for her behaviour which is all we wanted to remove our review. Instead shes now refusing orders for me and anyone who knows me. Tbh I’m not arsed myself I’m not too concerned about a woman who does not care about paying customers.

really good price, we got the ravioli with excellent soup. Recommended if you want to eat a lot and spend little. You can only pay in cash and there isn't much seating inside.

Really delicious! Fresh and very filling. Unfortunately the beef noodles were sold out, have to come back next time!

I forgot to even order a drink due to the rudeness of the waiter. Food was average at best. Never ever going here again! And I would not recommend this place to anyone! Kindness always wins!

Quaint halal Chinese food. All the items on the menu are really delicious. 100% recommend the fried dumplings, beef noodles, salt and pepper chicken, sweet and sour chicken, chicken egg fried rice, spicy cucumber.

The place is lovely and the food is very well priced we ordered beef, chicken with prawn and lamb with carrot dumplings. They were well made but very very salty. I’m not sure if this was just a salty batch but it was quite hard to eat. I didn’t like the beef but the lambs and carrot was okay.

lovely place with lovely people, i recently came here for my friend’s birthday and had the chicken & prawn dumplings, the beef dumplings, the braised chicken wings and the egg fried rice. we were all given more dumplings than we paid for which was nice and the trays had paintings on them :) don’t forget to add soy sauce to your egg fried rice. it’s provided on each table along with some napkins and vinegar! would definitely eat here again! <3

Incredible food, really tasty, good value.

Hi The food is good however the girl at the reception was vert rude to us. She was constantly on her mobile and did not care about the customer. I asked her about the flavour of a recipe but she was busy with her mobile Bad customer service

This was my first time at King Dumpling, but it's a favourite of my Neice, and I could tell why. I found the menu a little confusing to begin with, but once the food arrived, it was simple but done well.

Overall great experience: friendly staff/ chef, fast service, and tasty food that is good value. As others have mentioned the fried dumplings are a must order here. The chicken with prawns was good, dipping with the chilli oil and vinegar is tasty. Worth mentioning the food here is halal and they don’t sell pork on the premise. They can also take card payments. The chicken fried rice was pretty good too, though as some else had mentioned I would skip the salt and pepper chicken; it is a little bland on its own (but with other stuff and dipping sauce it is alright).

Very simple, basic food. Lots of onions and salt but little range of flavour. The Lamb kebabs were nice.

Amazing authentic Chinese food, the dumplings took me back to my travels to China many years ago, they warm the soul. The food is fresh, healthy, delicious and 💯 awesome! Def going back again.

To look at the place it doesn't inspire you but it has lovely efficient organised staff along with really good portion sizes along with very authentic tasty food. We will be returning here definitely.

Get yourself over to King Dumpling, tried it for the first time today and will absolutely be going back, it was unreal. The wait was a little long but it was more than worth it, great food and quality with friendly staff.

Lots of vegan options for mains and dumplings - had the mapo tofu, beansprouts and mushrooms. All were delicious and tasted very authentic. We arrived late-ish so had to get takeaway but would love to go back to eat in and order some dumplings as the interior is very nicely decorated:)

The fried Chicken mix Prawn Dumplings are the absolute business. Thought I was going to struggle when the 12 arrived in front of me but was so sad when I’d devoured the last one 😥 Soy sauce does add to the experience - all washed down with a pot of steaming China Tea. A superb late lunch 👍🏻

Good prices for very tasty food!

Went here for a bit of dinner, the chicken and mushroom soup was nice (have a bit of a cold so it really hit the spot), and had the salt and pepper chicken and prawn & chicken dumplings. Overall the food was really tasty, came out quickly, and was reasonably priced. In the future I’d only get dumplings! Ours were a little charred but so good. The salt and pepper chicken was a bit bland, wouldn’t get that again.

This is our favourite place in Preston. The service is excellent the chef is incredible and whether we are taking away or eating in the food is alway fresh, tasty and authentic. No grease, or added chemical it is an exceptional place to eat. If you want to eat authentic Chinese food made with natural ingredients I recommend thisnplace in the highest regards. I have read comments about staff being rude. I haven't ever witnessed this but I have witnessed customers being rude and obnoxious that they didn't sell what they wanted on the menu. I could not recommend this place enough.

If you fancy dumplings, you should come here! They serve Halal food so there is no pork dumplings but even beef one was so tasty and small wasn't small portion. Reasonable price and big portion☺️

Food was amazing but the service was extremely poor. The lady with short hair and glasses serving was so rude for no reason. When asked for a small plate she denied rudely and told us let them know before (how would one know they would give bowls for dumplings). Later when my friend visited again, she screamed at my friend saying that ur friend left a review so we will never serve u again. She politely replied i like ur food thats why i am here, she with her mom in the kitchen screamed again in front of the entire restaurant and told her to leave and never come back. This behaviour is unacceptable! How does one run a hospitality business and not have a single knowledge of customer service. I would recommend to order online but dont go see them its very disappointing.

This restaurant is a gem!! We visited today and I want to go back already to try all the other food from their menu! Dumplings were so delicious! Such a friendly staff and the restaurant is very clean. Thank you for the great experience!

Hidden halal Gem! Delicious Asian food, everything was banging and best of all it’s all halal

I love their opening hours, and the quality of food. The dumplings is hala and delicious. I usually order the onions fried lamb plate with fried rice. Taste like back home at Hong Kong and suit for those who want a hot and proper meal at lunch. Parking is available at the bus station or penny street car park or limited free car parking space at high street.

So good we are looking for an excuse to have our next holiday in Preston.. Please open more locations around the country!!

Amazing authentic good food. Fried prawn and chicken dumplings, sweet and sour soup, beef noodles, spicy egg fried rice and chilli beef. Can't complain about anyone of them. All had enhanced individual flavours.

I don’t often leave reviews but have decided to review this as it is one of my favourite places in Preston. I have been to King Dumpling many times, and have enjoyed it so much that I like to bring anyone who visits me in Preston to it. The food is always fresh and piping hot. I’ve never been disappointed in the quality or taste of the food. My faves are the lamb ribs, chicken fried rice, mapo tofu, and the chicken mix prawn dumplings. Sometimes it takes a while for food to come but this never bothers me as it’s good quality and totally worth it. Staff have always been polite. Only downside is that sometimes the restaurant closes earlier than it says on google (sometimes an hour early), so if you would like to visit King Dumpling I would advise that you don’t visit too late!

The waitress wearing glasses and short hair was extremely rude! We asked for a small plate and she denied and said i wont give, when asked again she very rudely said “let me know before hand”. She was not only rude to us but was constantly fighting with the kitchen staff. The food is very delicious but just the waitress with her ridiculous attitude had ruined the experience.

This place was so horrible, they treated us poorly because we were not “Asian” and the food was horrible. Frozen dumplings taste better than this. They gave us forks without asking us if we wanted chopsticks. Even the other customers in the restaurant were giving rude looks. This is not a welcoming place and the food isn’t nice either. The way you‘ve replied to the last comment just shows how rude you are and unwilling to take feedback from another customer.

I must say it was an utterly disappointing experience. From start to finish, this establishment failed to meet even the most basic expectations, leaving me with a bitter taste in my mouth.

Really enjoyed the food some really unique flavours, can't wait to try more stuff on the menu. The highlight for me has to be the fluffy and addictive egg fried rice The rice was cooked perfectly, not too sticky or mushy, with each grain separated and slightly chewy. The sauteed lamb with onion was really nice too!

On Google the time says it's open until 8pm but once we reached at 7 and they said they are shutting down. We tried our luck the next time we reached a bit early. The place is always filled with foodies. Food is super duper delicious and value for money. It's fresh and made to order. We tried their signature dumplings and fried lamb racks. Absolutely loved the food and was served quickly. The only thing that disappointed me was you can either choose chopsticks or fork and when i asked for both the girl serving there sounded rude. But i can forgive that part for the delicious food they served. Must visit.

Delicious dumplings. You get the option of boiled or fried. Would have liked the choice to mix some of the flavours, so maybe your best bet is if two of you get two different flavours and split half and half. Very reasonable prices and very filling!

We dined her because of the reviews. We Couldn't of been more disappointed. A cold reception from staff and food was awful. We had the dumplings which were very greasy and burnt and the wonton soup which taste of water. I would not recommend.

Most places will sell dim sum and dumplings for about 4 for £5-£6 meanwhile this place blows it out of the water by offering 12+ for £8-£9. The dumplings here are immaculate and taste fantastic!! If you're feeling a cheeky dim sum night I highly recommend this place as it's a great little niece corner stop for dumplings!!

Looks are deceptive. I would highly recommend this place. Delicious food, reasonably priced and very welcoming, friendly staff. I had the chilli beef and chicken fried rice. The food was very tasty and wholesome. Much lighter than my local Chinese. I will return next time I'm in Preston.

Do not be put off by the cafe like appearance. The food is really good, I would like it a bit spicier next time and I will let the chef know. Nice staff and good prices.

I called this place today and the woman who answered the phone to take my order was rude and unprofessional. The first rule is to be hospitable which she wasn't. I had a query about a dish and she rudely said "I have no time, go and refer to the menu" and disconnected me! I would give this place a 0 as being kind, courteous and professional is very important. Please try and be professional, courteous and amicable not rude! UPDATE: So, I get a call from the owner only to suffer 20 mins of abuse. She was shouting over the phone and very derogatory in her approach. She was so sure that it was me who called. Where is the privacy of my number? She actually went through all the numbers and called me. Wow! She was very aggressive in her approach and was certain it was me who called. I don't think she can take positive criticism. If you scroll down and see the customers who left a bad review she replies in an aggressive way. To the owner: Please be polite and courteous.It cost nothing to apologise and better yourself. Food is not everything, you have to also be amicable and reasonable. Havent you heard the saying "The customer is always right ".

This is the only authentic Northern Chinese food I found In Preston. It tastes amazing, the staffs there are friendly and helpful too. We definitely will be there again.

Honestly, really good food! We tried the fried dumplings, sweet chilli and sour chicken and spicy egg fried rice! Let's just say, I walked in skinny and walked out two months pregnant and another portion of sweet chilli chicken! Definitely, going back for more next time I am in Preston!

Authentic northern Chinese food, delicious and freshly cooked :) Located v close to the bus station, max 5 min walk. Would highly recommend the dumplings (per their name), but also the BBQ skewers (cumin seasoned, very yum) You can get the dumplings either pan fried or boiled (more traditional) - both are fab! We tried the beef, courgette, and cabbage. All were very good. There is some vinegar/ soy sauce on the tables in case you need it.

A beautiful little Chinese restaurant. A real chilled atmosphere where you can get to know someone. The food is brilliant and fairly priced . I recommend this as a great place for afternoon to late evening dates

First time here out of many to come but this food was amazing and halal too which was surprising they dont serve alcohol or other meat which goes against the halal authenticity. The people are so geniune both the ladies there are so nice and kind. Amazing food which blew my mind. Recommend to go there and try you will be going back over and over. Mouth watering and addicting food which is so good. This is a understatement as you need to try it. Thank you to both of you.

A hidden gem. My partner wanted to go here and I've been to fancier looking places where the food was so disappointing. This was the BEST Chinese food I have ever tasted. Every single element was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The dumplings, boiled or fried, excellent. The skewers, chicken and lamb, absolutely delicious. The Braised Prawn main course and Egg Fried Rice were both clearly cooked with both pride and expertise. I have recommended this food I have talked to ever since. Do yourself a favour and go and visit ASAP. Its so refreshing to be able to write, not only a positive, but glowing review. The owners deserve 100% praise

By far the best Asian food I've tried since moving to the area , food was so fresh and original . Could not recommend more my self and my partner will definitely be back after our first visit this Wednesday.

A HIDDEN GEM...Amazing family run restaurant, fresh food that is made and cooked infront of customers, always using top quality ingredients. Come here alot and always recommend to friends. It's a small place that maybe hold 30 covers.the food pictured is sweet Chilli and sour chicken, zucchini and Chinese cabbage dumplings, braised prawns and spicy Egg fried rice.

Despite the excellent reviews here - I'm not sure I enjoyed it so much (regrettably). We ordered a variety of items (Dumplings, prawns, ribs) but the taste just didn't sit well with me. I think I preferred the chips than anything else. Didn't work for me but it might work for you. In response to their reply below, I visited the restaurant 3 weeks ago and I ordered braised prawns. The menu will show that they serve braised prawns under their hot dishes. But hey, this is just one guy's opinion. There's no need for the response to be so passive aggressive.

Genuine North Chinese cuisine at a good price. And it's halal. It's fair to say that I have been looking for a restaurant like this for several years, thinking they only exist in the really large cities like London, but imagine my surprise and joy and finding one almost on my doorstep. Since discovering it I have been there four times (in less than two months!). The food is prepared and cooked freshly on site from scratch. You can tell the difference between it and lesser quality food straight away. As it's authentic cuisine, it may take you a couple of visits to adjust your palette, that depends on you. The mother (chef) and daughter (service) team works brilliantly. Just make sure you ask for chopsticks beforehand. I will definitely keep visiting this place.

A long overdue catch up with friends and decided to try something different. Dietary requirements usually mean Chinese food is often a non starter. So this is a welcome addition and it didn't disappoint. Highlights are the braised chicken wings cooked to perfection, not even a hit of dryness as can often be the case, just so tender. Then the sweet chilli and sour chicken, always good to challenge your palate, as I have never previously had a decent sweet and sour, but this dish changed that with just the right amount of chilli and again chicken pieces cooked to perfection and just so tasty. We had this with egg fried rice, something I've not had in years primarily due to issues with it often being cooked with ham in many Chinese establishments but not here and again rice cooked to perfection and just the right accompaniment. Will definitely return.

Absolutely amazing dumpling so tasty

I've been to King Dumpling a few times, like another reviewer has said before "his girlfriend kept nagging him to go" so I did. This is definitely one of Prestons best restaurants hands down. This hidden gem in a city centre cluttered with construction barriers gets the credit it deserves online but the city is not doing its due diligence to truly let the amazing food cooked here shine. Before I get to food, I just want to mention how beautifully decorated and immaculate the place is! The kitchen looks spotless so it makes me feel very safe and secure about the quality of the food! Finally the food! This is "make you feel like you're back home, being 13 and having the best scran ever cooked by your granny" type food, I'm amazed by how incredible it is and I'm pleasantly suprised every time I order and I'm quite the picky eater. 5/5 Go and get yourself some

Perfect food, perfect service. It’s the only Chinese restaurant I go to and order from. Food is healthy and fresh, it’s a truly authentic Chinese restaurant and it worthy to visit. The dumplings are amazing! Every-time we have been there or even ordered from there we’re always happy. I wish they extended their menu!
