King chips in York

King chips has loads of choices of sauces which makes is a great place to grab a snack and eat it on the go or just cross the road over to the museum gardens and enjoy your warm yummy snack.

Lovely staff and wonderful food, snack sauce is the greatest sauce! Plus the short guy with the beard was as delight to talk to!

Walking through York reminded me of my visit to Oxford. The river is lovely and after a nice boat ride admiring the architecture we were feeling hungry. We headed in search of some fish and chips and thought king’s sounded tasty. I immediately felt threatened upon walking in here and was spoken to rudely with a lack of manners. Now to address the slab of cheap grease that I was presented with upon parting with my hard earned money. I was mightily disappointed with the food and have seen better in McDonald’s. Having read some of the 5 star reviews here I think anyone who believes them is incompetent and deluded. They were the worst chips I have ever tasted and they didn’t even serve fish. The sauce looked like something from an indusiestate and tasted of melted plastic. Do not come here if you enjoy British fish and chips. Or any chips for that matter!

Came across this place by chance; there was a queue so I pretty much guessed they’d be nice. I didn’t realise they’d be THAT nice. There is a wide variety of sauces to choose from and the service is spot on.

Stumbled across King Chips while looking for something else, we only wanted something quick to fill a gap before our tea. You can pick from at least 20 different sauces, it was difficult to decide! We ordered medium size, 1 with mayo and 1 with BBQ sauce and extra cheese, a couple of cans and it was about £9 which is line with most fast food outlets. Chips were hot, fresh and full of flavour, we used our fingers to eat but they provide a skewer which is a little odd!

Had chips with fresh onion and satay sauce.. without doubt the best chips we have had. Brought back memories of our trips to Europe.

Having visited queen chips in Italy we opted to try this place and boy the foods great, lovely chips, no crozzled little splinters, all full size chips cooked to perfection and crispy but not hard. The choice if sauce was great we opted for tomatoe curry and I was a bit sceptical but it’s absolutely gorgeous so would highly recommend you all try this place and I will be shocked if ur not fully happy 👍🏻

I love the convenience of King chips as it's on my way home from work so it's a perfect pit stop if I'm after a light snack. The choice of sauces is also great and even the small portion of chips is very filling!

Really big cones of chips, keeping it nice and simple with small, regular and large. Regular is plenty for most people, then a choice of sauce from their wide selection! Awesome taste and a nice change from McDonald's every day in the centre of york!

Everyone I know has raved about these chips and their really not worth the money. The chips are mediocre at best, with small portion sizes and the sauces really aren't great. Was expecting so much more. The mayo was oily and separated and the bbq was not bbq sauce. Most chippys in York will do you a great flavour and decent sized portion of chips for half the price

My boyfriend and I love the chips here!! Amazing. Little pricey but worth it! Please add some more vegan friendly sauces :)

King chips are yummy, freshly cooked you can pick size and what you want on them and we thought the stick you eat them with was cool, we loved them and the regular filled us.

Chips were nice but quite pricy small not worth £2:50 the curry isn’t curry sauce more like curry mayonnaise eg coronation chicken sauce. The Tom sauce was very nice ok but nothing to shout about.

Worth buying now and again, taste nice and we bought regular portions. Come with sauce of your choice, wide variety, curry sauce recommended. Friendly service. Price a little steep, overall recommended.

Kings Chips don't sell anything but chips. But they're damn good chips. They're freshly made, hand cut on the premises, double fried and totally delicious. Lots of yummy sauces to choose from too. My favourite is the classic curry but take your pick. A medium portion at £3.50 makes an ideal lunch for one. Not entirely healthy but great for an occasional treat.

I tried King Chips today for the first time, expensive and a small portion. Way too greasy and salty, does not taste like dutch chips like it should (maybe the ones from a cheap tourist shop in Amsterdam). I have been feeling sick the whole day after eating the chips. Would not recommend, if you fancy some nice chips in York skip King Chips and get them from Drake’s Fish and Chips, best ones I’ve had in York so far.

Gosh the hot sauce with hot chips are making my mouth water just thinking about them. I wish there were more in the country. Can’t wait for my next trip to York just to taste this awesomeness.

My boys love this place. I don't know why, maybe it's the funny cone you eat them in (memories of Cornish chippy we visit in Falmouth perhaps), or the long spike of wood you eat them with (health & safety alert!). The only complaint is that they don't serve brown sauce.....that's because they don't have that in Holland and these are supposed to be Dutch chips. Not cheap and not cheerful either but on a cold day these fill the kids up, all they need is an ice cream for afters.

Whhhhy did these have to be so amazing! I now will have to travel an hour and a half for chips! Haha. So goooood.

King Chips are so delicious, they taste exactly like the ones in Amsterdam. They are fantastic. The staff were so friendly, the prices are more than reasonable - we will definitely be back. ❤️🍟❤️

Have not had chips for a long time, so passed by and was tempted in by the smell of fresh cooked chips. Fast and friendly service. Chips with blobs of sauce. Perfect

I’m half Dutch so this was a throwback to my childhood spent in my mother’s birthplace. Loved it - my authentic recommendation is chips with mayonnaise and mustard (was always piccalilli sauce in Holland). Yum yum!

What else can I say had cones of chips. They weren’t anything special. Ketchup nice and rich. A bit to pricey for what it is.

So looking forward to our chips before going on a ghost tour especially as we had had some in Amsterdam earlier in the year and at Queens Chips in Sorrento last year only to find on a Thursday evening at 6pm that they were closed and had been for a while that day by the looks of it, plus there are signs up asking for full and part time staff. We had left it too late to find anywhere else so had to join our hungry- very disappointed

LOVE LOVE LOVE the chips and making our way through the sauces. Small chips is great value as are the other prices too.

What a find, great chips golden on the outside and fluffy in the middle, great range of sauces but for true continental experience just have the truly amazing mayonnaise.

The chip (fries) here were great! There are a bunch of different sauces you can choose from too. I taste tested two before deciding - both were good. If you're looking for a tasty, quick bite you can carry, give them a try!

Beautifully fried chips that are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Wonderfully salted & the best selection of sauces I've seen, ever. I would recommend the BBQ and Curry myself! I would definitely recommend King Chips. Friendly service & great value for money too!

I've lived in the Netherlands previously for 15 years so thought it would be hard for the chips to live up to my expectations. On a recommendation from my daughter decided to find them ........... service was great with very friendly staff. Everything tasted as I remembered down to the Mayo. I'd recommend people visiting York to try them out. Hope they manage to branch out to other parts now. Well done

Service was super quick and the chips were delicious. Very quick and good customer service! Chips were hot and crispy, some of the best I've had!

Best chips in York, clean, quick service and perfect for when you're running into town, only problem is trying to decide which sauce to pick as there are so many and they are all so good! Reminds me of Manneken Pis chip shop in Amsterdam Centrum.

It was Saturday afternoon. Most of fast food shops were crowded but the king chips wasn't busy. We were hungry. Chips? Why not?! Our chips were warm and not crispy because they were left on the bench, dunno how long... We hoped they were just fried but it is £2.50. It's OK.

Needed something quick in York and found this as absolute gem. Such a simple product done perfectly with a massive array of sauces and service was spot on. Will be back

Stopped here to grab a quick lunch. Great tasting chips and a range of unique sauces. We really liked the hot shot sauce. If I lived in York I'd be here all the time!

I Visited King Chips on 10/04/17

Chips served in cone with a topping of sauce. Chips were really nice and we tried pita sauce (garlic), bbq sauce and curry. The only reason we didnt give 5 stars was because two of us wanted curry ketchup sauce but they'd run out and I could imagine this being the most popular. The wooden skewer you're given to eat them with doesn't make it easy it would be better using a fork. Would definitely try again!

What a little gem of a place and what a great idea !

Chips here aren't stodgy, overcooked or anything like that. They're crispy and fresh, which I really like. Plus, I'm trying different sauces (there's quite a few). Staff were all really welcoming and let me be nosey about how they were cooking the chips.

Gorgeous Dutch Chips and a great price. Had mayo on mine and they were delicious. There are lots of sauces to choose from and they come in a cone with a stick, so handy to eat on the go.

Have popped in a few times recently. The chips are cooked perfectly and the range of sauces is great. Just like how I remember chips in belgium! The staff are super friendly and I would definitely recommend for a snack on a night out or just a quick bite on the go.

Waited 20 minutes for an inordinately expensive bag of chips and the staff didn't even get my order right. Never again.

Does exactly what it's says. Great chips and plenty of sauce with the small portion of chips. They need a new scoop to get the chips out of the salter bowl but great chips!
