Happy Haddock in York

I only manage to get there at certain times as I live 200 miles away. It's nearly always closed when I get there, and I know it's been closed for some time due to structural issues however caught them open the other day and the fish and chips were delicious along with the scraps. Piping hot and a great portion. Well done!

The chips and scampi were fine however the fish had a strong Ammonia smell to it. I couldn’t eat it as that is a a sign of spoilt fish. That’s just not acceptable.

We drove past this place on the way to our holiday cottage and went back to get some food once we got settled in. Food was lovely and freshly cooked and we will certainly be back when next in York. Fish was beautifully cooked and the chips were really good. Cash only so had to pop to the services 5 minutes down the road and use the cash point so take cash when going Lovely to see locals in there too and great to see a chip shop offering batter bits!! 👌🏻

The fish was not haddock, it was grey and slimy! Cheap Pollock or something similar. Hard and overcooked. Not worth the money. Chips and mushy peas were nice. Serve Haddock as advertised not a cheap alternative!

Smashing fish & chips and really nice people too. I’ve been meaning to try these for some while, last night I had opportunity, lovely Crispy batter and perfect chips straight out of the pan, loads of salt and vinegar, recommend 👍

The cheapest and best for miles around. Always go here if passing on the A19. Tasty fish cooked fresh to order (with scraps) by very nice and talkative staff. Everything is tasty. 5 stars.

Great fish and chips, unfortunately they use beef dripping instead of oil. The sign at the premises says open until 7.30 but on here it says 8pm, not hard to change.

Great fish and chip shop, everything freshly cooked, fantastic curry sauce the best I have ever had from a chip shop and lovely staff to boot. Can't recommend enough, if you are anywhere near go and give it a try, you won't be disappointed

A 'Cash Only' notice on the outside would save you queueing for 20 mins to find the teeny tiny notice behind the counter!!

Everything is fresh and delicious...unfortunately, you can't pay by credit card!

Best Fish and chips ever. If your passing and it's open and you like fish and chips it's a must to stop. These are up there with the top chippies. Forget the magpie at Whitby !!!

Very nice, all freshly cooked by a husband and wife team.

Loved the freshly fried fish but the chips were a mix of fresh and old. The north's idea of a large mushy peas is a small in Leicester.

Often stop off after my lads Saturday morning football. Great fish n chips. Dont arrive to late. The fryers go off 15minutes before closing.

Called at the Happy Haddock yesterday(20th September) at ten past one all they had was sausage and chips and the friers were all turned off when they don't close until one thirty. I've never known a food establishment that does that. It was the first time I've seen it open will not be calling again
