Always warm and cosy. Good choice of real ale, though sadly served a little on the warm side. There's a real fire too, but it's very rarely lit. Walk out of the back door and you're on the platform for the Severn Valley Railway, lovely heritage steam and diesel locomotives.

Great simple food, lovely taste. Really good range of drinks. But poor service, racing against time to catch next train. With an hour for lunch and prompt ordering, only got our food 15 mins before train left. Appalling really. With a full train timetabled to arrive, you would think they be far far better prepared!! Also the way tables are layed out, the atmosphere ends up being like a library.

We really enjoyed Sunday lunch in this pub. A great location where you can see steam trains arriving and departing while you eat. We could have chosen to eat in either the pub or cafe but chose the pub for its nicer atmosphere. Food portions were generous, well cooked and well priced, we would definitely return.

Perched at the end of the Severn Valley Railway and at the top of station hill, this perfectly English pub is up there for the best of both world. Close to the town and to the 1940 feel of a steam railway it's just perfect. Smash that up with a dash of craft beers and it's just very special indeed

Passing through and thought we would get a quick pint and a sit down. The place was really clean and tidy plus we loved the attention to detail with the railway “GWR” carpet running the entire length of the pub. It was nice to sit back and relax with a pint of decent beer. Happy with the fact that the money was going toward and support the joining heritage railway. Brilliant place!

Badly organised. The cafe & the pub share a kitchen & couldn't cope with the amount of orders when we were there on a Sunday. We had 2 separate orders on our table, after 40 mins they said 'did you order food?' They had meals ready but had no idea who they were for. Half of each order came 5 minutes later, the others had to wait. We missed the next train so had to while away over an hour at Kidderminster station. The Sunday roast made up for it according to my partner and someone said the lasagne was great. My chips were soggy and my sons mashed potato was overly salted.

Just a quick review for the King & Castle, as I only stopped by for a swift half on my way elsewhere. It was midweek, very quiet, and there were more staff than customers - which was actually quite nice. Anywhere that does Bathams Best on cask is a winner, and the ale here was kept really well - an excellent pint. Locals and staff very friendly. Well lit, plenty of seating. A very historical red-brick Edwardian station - lovely architecture, and a stone's throw from the new station. Really nice experience - I shall go back when I have a little more time to check out the food.

The King and Castle sits on the Kidderminster end of the Severn Valley Railway but you don't have to be a heritage railway fan to enjoy the atmosphere of this great pub. They have a very good selection of real ale, including my favourite, Bathams Bitter. The only let down was the inattentive and slow pair of bar staff, completely lacking in personality, who didn't keep an eye on the order of waiting customers, just serving whoever was in front of them. A recruitment and training issue, perhaps?

Loved this pub over the years and had some good times there. Unfortunately now it's only open for mostly weekends. On my last visit on a Friday night got served by lovely but inexperienced staff. To be fair they have put up a sign on the bar explaining this. A lot of the locals now seem to have moved elsewhere as the pub was very quite. Such a shame as it always used to provide good drinks in a unique environment.

The King and Castle used to be my local. I used to frequent it several times a week virtually since it opened. I have watched its fortunes ebb and flow over the years but remained loyal as it was the nearest place to my house that served Batham's. The beer was generally OK and the 'usual suspects' that made up the 'locals' were pleasant and engaging. It must have been such a money spinner to the charity in its day. It is heart-breaking to see it today and I despair that it has been allowed to sink so low. It is barely open during the weekday evenings. When it is open the dis-interested and demoralised staff give the place a funerial air, the beer is outrageously expensive and the quality is marginal to poor. I assume the reduced hours do not allow a decent throughput? I walked in broadly hopeful and left virtually suicidal. This is a resource that is being wasted by a poorly managed charity. I thank the lord that I resisted buying SVR shares all those years ago. Such a shame!

Once a great thriving pub. But for some obscure reason is now closed most of the time and cherry picks when to open. Customer loyalty continues to diminish as a result. I don't know what's going on with the place other than an act of cultural vandalism and utter contempt for regulars who have supported the SVR over decades.

A group of friends decided to meet at the King and Castle for drinks last night 03/12/22 There were 2 females bitching behind the bar rather than serving the customers, what should have taken my husband a couple of minutes to buy 2 drinks it was nearly 10 minutes, there was a guy reading a book buy the fire who every now and again jumped up and cleared the tables, they had no original gin only flavoured, and the pub smelt of chips, we sat with our friends but ended up moving seats because it smelt very strongly or cat piss to put it bluntly, the only saving grace was the company we were keeping, what a shame that such a great pub has deteriorated so badly

The pub itself is good but, and this is a big but, if you park in the SVR car park and use the parking machine in the pub, its free to park if you're using the pub, I used the machine and a few weeks later received a parking fine for £60. Yet another scam, it goes beyong anger, I've been a big supporter of SVR especially the last 2-3 years when they needed as people as possible to support them then you get, talk about a kick in the teeth.

After being a regular for years of this pub seeing the downfall of this place is madness. The management if you can call them that are grievously incompetent with a complete lack of knowledge, who are obviously employees through nepotism and not on merit, the way I’ve seen staff and customers treated makes me sick. Absolute shambles of a “pub” clearly nothings going to change and they’re happy losing customers.

Was planning on visiting this afternoon, but looked on their Facebook page to see that they would not be opening until 5pm due to staff shortages ! Then later, discovered that they would be opening at 12:30. Don't understand how a business can be run like this - even post pandemic. Clearly the management team can't pour a pint ! Prices seem to have escalated beyond reasonable expectations, and the service is inconsistent. I believe they have catering facilities, but no food has been available for months. I have been using this Establishment from when it first opened (1986??) Always loved it for the real ales and a place where you can sit down and actually have a conversation without Juke Boxes and Gaming machines in the background. Now the beer was never cheap in here but I can't believe how much the price has rocketed in the last 6 months £4 for a pint of Enville. I know this covid has had a knock on effect but looking at the amount of people in the pub on my last few visits I personally think the overpriced beer is the main reason. Severn Valley getting greedy!!!
