King Cafe in Kingston upon Thames

The service was good and gentleman serving was polite. The burger was good however the chips were awful. (See second picture) A lot of burnt chips which ruined the overall quality of the meal. Overall it was satisfactory but requires improving for the price £9.50 Thanks!

Amazing cafe. Great food and fantastic milkshakes. We didn't have to wait too long for our food either. Definitely recommend. One of the best cafes I have been to.

This cafe is great! The service is quick and the food tastes amazing - the milkshakes are good and same with the chips. There's a range of foods to choose from as well.

This place is really well run by a Turkish family. The food is hearty builders' stuff - traditional Englsih fare - but it's freshly cooked to order and the cafe is spotless, the owners welcoming and friendly and they provide a very speedy service.

I come here regularly and always enjoy the food! Although I am charged a different price for the same order each time I am in! My partner is also charged different prices when he visits! They also charge for card payment which they are not allowed to do! Disappointing as the staff and food is always very nice.

Nice quiet place and good food.

Adequate, entry level cafe. Food was cooked well and it was served quickly and the workers were very polite. Breakfast did the job of supplying calories however the sausage and egg tasted of nothing.

Over all good but don't eat the veggie burger, not nice, need to start to accommodate the changing clientele. But in saying that there standard cafe food good.

This is a hidden gem. Clean Friendly Huge Menu Food prepared fresh What more do you want. Even the ketchup isn't too bad. Not the usual cheap, watery, vinegary, illuminous speckled stuff you get in other cafes. The bread they use is thick doorsteps of a farmhouse loaf not the cheap mass produced sliced offering often presented in a cheap other cafes. So I am a fan, Gammon steak chips and beans for dinner tonight, cheaper than if I bought it and cooked it myself, and no washing up.

I have been here dozens of times. The staff are very welcoming and always do their best to give you good service. They listen to what you want and deliver to your table without delay. It's a pity they don't offer more non meat/egg/dairy options but hey..... the new student accommodation directly opposite might give them a hint :-) All in all a really nice place.

Really enjoyed our dinner. I liked the new menu. Great service and we had a booth as requested which made for a cosy dining experience.

Great quality steaks. Loved the mojito. Liked the decor but had to talk quite loudly to be heard over the.music.

Prices have increased and the menu changed, but the steak is always excellent.

Was nice evening and lucky we weren’t in a rush. Service was slow and at times felt like we were forgotten. Food very nice though.

Came for lunch and had the set menu, really good value for money & lovely food. Service pretty poor. Took my partner for a celebration evening to get the set menu & nowhere does it state a time available. I searched everywhere & even at the restaurant it didnt mention. When we sat down the lady said it was only for lunch and nothing could be done. They failed to offer any alternative & considering it was so quiet as the football was on I was surprised. We decided to stay and continuously had to ask to see menus/for the bill. I would return for lunch for the food point of view. Not for service. Better options for dinner elsewhere.

It was the first time out for my husband and me, since our son was born over a year ago. Unfortunately our evening was spoiled by the very long wait for our meal, we managed to attract the attention of the waiter after 15-20mins unsuccessful tries. The starter was not very nice at all, half cooked pitta bread and tasteless crab. But steaks very delicious. To be fair they did over us 20% discount on the final bill, but charged us for the steak sauce which we never received. Overall, the whole service overshadow our experience

Very good food ate it all very friendly people and the prices are really good especially as you get 2 slices of fantastic toast and tea or coffee in with the price. Unfortunately just passing through so won't be there again. But will recommend too friends on Facebook in the area

They had a depleated wine list and the service was terrible but the meat was good. Gaucho does much better in all aspects and they should be concerned if they will lose their custom if they keep repeatedly having the same comments and doling NOTHING about it....

Food lovely. We had the Sunday Roast. Service a little slow, all staff polite though. Only issue is we were sat near the door and kept getting a cold draft as the door would be left open by people going in and out.

I&#039;ve been here a couple of times recently and been totally underwhelmed with the service. They have plenty of staff to diners, who are perfectly pleasant when they come over, but we were left waiting for everything. The smug manager sets a bit of the wrong tone and can be quite condescending. Even my kids remarked we&#039;d be better off going to Pizza Express. The food is fine though. I also take exception to an automatic 12.5% being added to the bill for a family of four.

Yet again outstanding service, initially we were put at the back of the restaurant then they offered to move us and we had a table at the front staff were hugely attentive polite and the food was fabulous as well. The food was lovely but the service was poor. We waited ages for our order to be taken. Empty glasses were never cleared from our table. We had to call for our dessert order to be taken. It took 2.5 hours for 2 main courses and one dessert! Every table around us seemed the same - dirty plates and glasses sitting there for ages. Although the steak was delicious the service spoiled it. Such a shame.

We had an amazing date night at Cau!! The food was cooked to perfection and the level of service we received from the staff was 10/10! Would definitely recommend!

Food was amazing but the service was very slow. It was during busy Bank Holiday Monday lunch time but waiting 40 minutes for a main meal was a bit too much. Specially when you have small children waiting for food and wanting to eat and go.

Our second visit - first visit very impressed. This visit a little disappointing - service not brilliant and steak not perfect.

Terrible service on a bank holiday Monday. Booked a table in advance and placed at the back of the restaurant. Pretty much forgotten about. Had to get up countless times to ask to make more drinks orders, starter orders, mains orders, the bill, which I then took the front desk as no one bothered to return with a card reader which I asked for after the bill arrived. Their reply “can’t you see how busy we are”. <br />Food was really good but the customer service was some of the worst I’ve experienced in years.

Very disappointed with service. One waitress who did her best - otherwise consistently poor service. Slow, incorrect orders and general confusion. When observation was made to the manager on leaving that it was somewhat disorganised, the reply was “it’s not, what do you expect”?

We had an amazing meal here on Saturday night celebrating my sons 21st birthday.<br />The food was excellent and the service was too,cold not fault the restaurant at all.<br />We especially enjoyed the dessert menu and cocktails.<br />Thankyou to all staff for making our visit memorable.

Met up with 3 close friends, all of whom had heard good things about Cau, although I was the only one who had been before. We were seated quickly and courteously. After 10 mins, no waiter / waitress had showed up so we called the Maitre D&#039; to take our orders. She was great and the service thereafter was quick - but no one checked in with us at any point. Whenever we wanted e.g. more wine we had to call someone.<br /><br />All 4 had steak. Plus points, it was cooked accurately to order. Negatives, it was underwhelming for £30 / 400g. Not bad at all, just not great. Several of us contrasted flavour unfavourably with independent steakhouses we had visited. Sides (spicy peas, truffled macaroni, various fries) were better and well priced.<br /><br />Would recommend, but would not describe Cau Kingston as &#039;must visit&#039;.

I visited with a group of friends for brunch on Sunday and we had a fantastic time. We all went for the brunch menu with unlimited prosecco and beer. The food was very tasty and there was lots of it. Already thinking of booking to do it again! The only tiny downside was we often had to ask for more drinks, rather than being offered them, which is why the service lost a star.

This location by the river was perfect for a warm sunny morning. We had breakfast, and the food was fab. I’m a real sucker for the tapa de cuadril with eggs so was pleased to see it still on the menu. I got the impression that our waitress was fairly new as there were a couple of minor mistakes early on, she was lovely though and rectified them very quickly. Staff were attentive but not overbearing so our leisurely meal was a real delight. I wouldn’t hesitate to return.

It is a great location and the food was very good. The steaks were nice and thick and very well cooked and the pancakes were exceptional. Will definitely be returning.

Our service was appalling and we were spoken to very rudely and aggressively by the waitress after she got our order wrong. She then made the rest of our meal very uncomfortable and all of the staff were giving us mean looks and refusing to serve us. We were shocked because we had not been rude in reply, only informing the waitress that she had put through the wrong size steak which wasn&#039;t an issue,yet we only wanted to pay for the size we asked for. We spoke to several managers about this during the evening and none of them did a thing to help us or apologise. All they did was defend their staff member and say she was having a bad day. Unfortunately, that is not our problem as a customer. we do not expect to be shouted at and given terrible service. Nothing was done about it, we weren&#039;t offered any complimentary drink or food or discount of any kind. Instead, we were ignored. Horrible experience and very disappointed with the restaurant and the staff as a whole.

We had a great afternoon. All aspects were fantastic.

The Restaurant is a favourite but is not good as it used to be,but it was practically empty. The Roast is good. but it would not appeal so much for other dishes, too limited. Staff friendly, especially the Manager, but not quick to serve as usual. We had lots of different servers which was strange.

We arrived for an early birthday celebration, we were given a booth which was lovely. Service was attentive but very slow.<br />Ordered medium rare ribeye sadly mine was more medium well! No check back so too late to change it.

Had a superb lunch here with hubby. Steaks were excellent along with service and food recommendations. All round had a good experience

Superb customer service, delicious steaks, super Margharitas, river front restaurant, efficient and well trained staff who are knowledable and passionate about the CAU product.

Mostly very good, especially the service.<br />Unfortunately the Bream was not grilled over coals but on a baking tray, I witnessed this when I was walking past the open kitchen. I did not mention it as I didn’t want to fuss and it was my colleagues meal, she did not comment.

Celebrating my friends birthday the staff went out of their way to make it an extra special occasion with glass of prosecco and desert. Our humus starter was excellent . We both have the roast beef which was very good. A nice choice of side dishes. Overall a lovely meal, experience and great location overlooking Kingston riverside. Highly recommend and hope to return soon

Fab food and cocktails as always, I felt 12.5% service was abit steep. <br />we asked a number of waiters/waitresses for the sauces we had ordered with our steaks and they still never arrived and we were still charged for them! <br />Very minor tbh. <br /><br />Overall, lovely evening

The CAU in Wimbledon Village is much nicer as the service an ambience is a lot better - the service in the Kingston branch was poor. Very slow, they took a very long time to bring over a card machine so that we could pay our bill - if we had walked out I don&#039;t think they would have even noticed. They also took a long time to take our orders. Food was nice but service really let it down.

Very good food (for the meat lovers), excellent service. Premium pricing for premium cuts of meat. Will go back there and would recommend.

In short, great food, shame about the service.<br />In detail, we went on Mother’s Day 11 March 2018 with my husband and two teenage sons hoping to enjoy a lovely steak dinner altogether. Unfortunately, only three dinners were served altogether, and we, or rather my son, had to wait a further 10 mins for his meal to arrive. All the food was delicious but not the most enjoyable meal having to eat whilst being watched by my hungry son. At the time the waitress was apologetic and offered complimentary desserts as compensation, but from then on the level of service deteriorated, it was very slow, inattentive and seemed to be of the minimal effort required. The steaks were delicious, cooked well and we enjoyed the food very much.

Generally a good atmosphere. We booked in advance and were seated next to the door/front window which was a bit chilly. Next time I will request a booth which looks warmer and cosier. It wasn&#039;t very busy but customers appeared to be sat together rather than spread out which resulted in things being a little cramped.<br />We all ordered the steak and were all very happy with the quality although it was served all cooked to the same &quot;doneness&quot;, despite being ordered medium-rare to well done. <br />Cocktails that were ordered were delicious so we asked for a second which was a very different taste and could not be drunk.<br />Staff were very attentive and as we had said we had a birthday boy with us, he got a special dessert with a candle which was a nice touch. No rush to push us out which was appreciated.
