Took my parents here yesterday and they were very impressed with the food, the quality and value are great! George was also very smiley and welcoming would totally recommend coming here.

we have been this restaurant for several time, the foods were always excellent, today we went for the fish and chips, very scrumptious as always, George waited on us, he is a very friendly, helpful and polite guy. we will come back again.

Marcus was very welcoming and we felt at home.

We enjoyed a big platter of fried prawns, calamari, mussels, two fried fish portions and chips. That was £75 and good value to share.

Had to wait for 1 hour for food as the service was horrible. Have been there twice and both time found very poor quality service Also, food portion size is small compared to the price

Second time in a row we experienced terrible service. The first time we were there, it took a while for us to get a waiter to take our order- they seem to be ignorant even after trying to wave. Today, initially, we were seated swiftly with the front counter mentioning that we have the table for an hour. The waiter took our order. After 45 mins of waiting, the food didn’t arrive and we called the waiter to check how much longer it will take (while other tables arriving after us were being served). A senior person came and apologised saying that our order was misplaced or discarded thinking they already served and they are getting it in 5 mins. It took overall 50 mins for the food to arrive while the kids were very hungry. And the food was cold. We experienced a horrible service, being neglected by the waiters, second time in a row. We felt that there is gross negligence towards South Asians. Really disappointed at the experience after decades since the end of racial colonialism.

The lovely waitress, Saeideh(the name is found on the receipt, Hope I didn’t get it wrong), is kind, patient, wonderful, beautiful! Her service and attitude will never let you down. The food is best ever btw. Love it, will definitely come again! 🥰🥰🥰

Visited Ocean Basket Restaurant earlier today, and was very impressed with the quality of freshly baked small bread rolls, the 3 yummy sauces, and thereafter, the deliciously grilled calamari starter I ordered as a main meal. The waitress,, Cosmina, who took my drink and food order was very welcoming, friendly, and helped me to choose a refreshing drink, as well as the starter. She was a delight to converse with, and proved to me that she’s an asset to your restaurant. Suffice to say, the next time I visit Kingston-Upon-Thames, I will visit Ocean Basket Restaurant without any hesitation. At one point in my life, I lived in Durban, South Africa, and still remember dining at the Ocean Basket, situated in the Pavilion Shopping Centre, Durban, where my family and I enjoyed eating their delicious fish meals, and receiving the same excellent service. Well done! 👏

Food tasted great as always, but it was disappointing to see that the prawns were not cleaned. Bread was served cold. Also, service was rather slow.

Food was delicious but terrible service. The front of house was very friendly and we got seated at a lovely table with a view over the river. Unfortunately after we were seated no waiter came to the table to take our order. After 20minutes I managed to grab the front of house to ask if someone could take our order (other staff seemed to disperse or ignore you when approached). She very helpfully came and took our order. We never did receive a bread basket although every other table did seem to get one and there were plates on the table for it. The blood orange lemonade was lovely and food arrived very quickly. We ordered 2 bite of the ocean’s, grilled fish with half chips half rice and a fish and chips fried. Everything was cooked to perfection, with lovely tender calamari, tasty prawns and soft flaky fish. We sat hoping that our waiter would return so we could see a desserts menu and perhaps order more drinks but after a 30 minute wait we flagged someone down to get our bill instead. It did seem that other tables served by the same waiter had the same problem but other tables appeared to have much better service. Just quite disappointing for us as it’s a bit of a drive to get there but at least the food was good and we had a nice view.

Had the Monday special, BYGOF fish and chips. Food was really tasty and great value for money. Will definitely be back.

Visited with my family over the weekend and the food was absolutely perfect. My boyfriend and I got the platter for one to share which was actually the perfect amount of food for us both! Definitely recommend x

Overrated ⚠️ Always waiting for tables even with advanced booking , understaffed and not properly trained , slow service, half of the staff do not know or understand the menu and have to go back and forward asking for everything which is annoying when your food is getting cold waiting to be served 👎 The tables and chairs are crumbling , not enough space to move around and sit comfortably , unclean and unhygienic unisex WC and 80% of the time of the year the terrace is closed even is Summer ⁉️ The food portions are smaller then the photos on the menu and some of the staff explain that but others ignored it ⁉️Quality food ingredients and good seafood choices 👌but not always prepared properly 👎 The overall experience is overrated and overpriced (except the special on the day discounts )‼️ Nothing like the Insta real’s in reality only the advertising is really good 😁

We were a group of six and ordered the full platter, which was more than enough. We also enjoyed a delicious salad and soup. The food was excellent, and the service was impressively quick. I would be coming back soon.

Got Covid so decided to order their food on UberEats. Ordered my usual: platter for one but unlike cheaper platters this did not have a chance to change side from rice+fried to vegetables and others. Called the restaurant to ask to swap rice and fried to vegetables and was told it is impossible due to the “cost”. “Surely rice AND fries does not cost less than vegetables or maybe you can put less vegetables instead or something? Anyway, asked then not to put any rice and any fries at all as I do not want to waste food and I knew I would not eat it. My £26 box came looking quite empty as you can imagine. Not like I expected something to replace the half of the box but not being able to do something which I never had problems to swap at the restaurant is silly.

I absolutely love Ocean Basket! Whenever we’re in the mood for seafood, this is our go-to spot. I’ve dined here more than five times with various friends, all of whom have raved about the great food range and fresh seafood. If you can snag a table by the river, it’s even better! On my last visit, which was for a friend’s birthday, the staff came over and sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to her, making her feel truly special. Thank you for the memorable experience. 10/10 would recommend, and I’ll definitely be back!

Complete rip-off. Ordered food for takeaway after being told the half empty restaurant was full, and a "service fee" was added to the total (expensive) bill even we we weren't eating in. Why? The food itself (fish and chips, fishburgers and sides) was pretty mediocre with tiny fillets. The batter was soggy with a sickly yellow colour and the fish had a watery texture with no taste. My local chippy is so much better than this, I should have known better to try an overprice fish restaurant. As for the burger, I was expecting something like the fantastic Captain Cook from GBK but this certainly isn't it. On the plus side, the chips were OK; I've had better and I've had worse but it would have been nice to get enough chips as an actual accompanyment to the fish for a proper meal instead of a measly portion. Restaurant atmosphere seemed lively and it has a riverside table but I visit places to eat-in with a good meal. What's the point when the food is below average? There are so many better places to eat in Kingston (try Fife Road) so I really can't wait to never visit Ocean Basket again.

Fantastic food. It was 'lekker'

This may be the worst food I have ever tasted in my life... And I am an adventurous eater. I don't understand how you can make lemon sole, so tasteless and the fish is somehow actually dry on the outside but raw on the inside. The restaurant also put me and my family of 6 on a table designed for 2 people. When we asked if we could have a larger table we were this was not possible as they were holding the tables for the rush hour (but not anyone specific). Rush hour never came - this was for lunch on a Saturday - we were in a completely silent restaurant with a bunch of waiters who sat in the corner playing on their phones. When we complained we were told that management would be contacted but no such action ever happened and were offered a £10 voucher to eat again. Why would want to eat here again if everything is so bad? I do not understand how this place has been going for 10 years. Everything about this place was terrible.

We brought full deck takeaway, hoping to enjoy it. However, the food wasn't nice. The muscles were not cleaned, and you could see hair inside and outside the muscles. The rice was also tasteless

Beautiful setting, absolutely delicious food and reasonably priced. Excellent for kids too. Love the condiments with the meals (crushed garlic, chillies and sauces - yum!) Service was friendly if not always most attentive. One thing to improve is the heat of the food - it was lukewarm and got cold very quickly. The pans the food is served in should be hot to keep the heat longer. Also provide suitable hand cleaning materials for after de-shelling of prawns. All in all - highly commend.

Fun south african seafood restaurant next to the river. Also serves Greenwich Meantime Pale Ale on draft, which is a rare find. Will be back.

Great place, as a South African I was interested to see if it would be the same as I remembered it in South Africa, both in terms of food and atmosphere and it definitely did.

I just had my birthday lunch at Ocean Basket Kingston. The Manager was able to accommodate my special request with his positive team. Food was hot and fast delivered. Great quality and tasty food for a good price - I would recommend it. We had the full deck platter, and it's really big for 2 people. It would do well for 3-4, although 2 hungry people would surely manage it. The service was great and everyone was really friendly. The view is a plus.

Great food and experience but maybe seat people a bit further away from each other! We were sat right next to a table of loud children in an almost empty restaurant.

Overall, a very enjoyable experience. The fish tasted fresh and delicious as well as the prawns and the oysters, everything was cooked perfectly and we were very happy with with portion sizes. Very friendly staff and very enjoyable and comfortable atmosphere and location by the river. Price was expensive but worth it for the experience received. Definitely worth coming again.

We had such a great lunch overlooking the river. The food and atmosphere was really nice. We were there for quite a large function. They catered sea food platters for the tables and kids fish burgers. We were also able to order a variety of drinks and cocktails. Will definitely go back even though it’s a bit of a trek.

Brilliant seafood restaurant. Great tasting platters with fresh ingredients and tasty sauces. The platters are pretty big and great for sharing. The calamari in particular was excellent.

Love this place. The food quality speaks for itself and at a reasonable price point for a seafood restaurant. Been happy with the food quality and service every time we've visited. It is also both child and dog friendly, and the staff were so happy to accommodate us even without a booking. Requested only a small amount of salt when ordering the platter and they were happy to do this. Would highly recommend.

First visit here and I was impressed. We were looked after by Junior who was new to the restaurant but made every effort to ensure we had friendly and efficient service. Food was lovely, we had the Monday special of hake and chips which was delicious. I would definitely recommend visiting this restaurant with a lovely view overlooking the River Thames.

I’ve waited 30 years for a seafood restaurant in England similar experience to the OB in South Africa and got even better. More than 5 stars 🌟 for each of above category. Greatly surpassed our expectations. Awesome and can’t wait to visit again even though bit of a schlepp. Live in Petersfield, East Hants. What you can do better………open up more Ocean Baskets. I was recommended Ocean Basket by my wife who had lunched there with friends, my impression now after visiting for my son’s birthday is an overpriced Superfish who do it better. The fish and chips were tasteless , the platter for 1 was good apparently but at £25 expensive and overcooked, Lack of condiments was disappointing as was finger washing and if 3 of you want Mayonnaise you don’t need 3 bottles. Having your plate taken away as soon as you were finished negated sharing my wife’s platter but there was very little left. We ordered a carafe of house wine which turned out to be little more than a glass. The Eton mess on the desserts was not an Eton Mess as we knew it. The free dessert for my son’s birthday was appreciated though. The river view was nice but plenty of local restaurants offer that.

What a lovely little seafood joint. Stopped by for a Friday lunchtime and was greeted well. Only reason for no 5* was the oysters. Very plain and chewy. Didn't seem so fresh. And no toppings. But the platter was remarkable.

Unfortunately my 5 year old granddaughter had fish that was full of large bones! Luckily we cut the fish up first so she didn't eat any of them.

To summarise, Pros: + Good location + Dedicated service staff Cons - Automatic 10% service charge is added. Ask for it to be removed. - Not as cheap as advertised. An expensive place that looks like cheap prices. - Seafood is not fresh and tasty. They used imported frozen seafood. (Those who give 5 stars are people who have poor taste buds and are misled by the pleasure of being full.)

An honest 3/5 - booked a table after seeing this place on my Instagram posts. Food was OK - we had the platter for 2 - hake was dry, chips were meh. The prawns and mussels were the best part. Don't bother with the cocktails - our mojito's were basically water and syrup (can purchase better ones in the supermarket and add ice). Also, £20 for an aperol spritz which you can also purchase ready made in bottles is an absolute bump. Staff were friendly and accommodating but it was definitely short staffed this weekend in Kingston and also the restaurant was a bit of a mess which wasn't so inviting. For the price and service charge, OB - you can do better.

We waited for a long time to be seated on the terrace. However, the service was not great. The seafood platter we ordered was good, but the calamari was disappointing as it was bland and rubbery. We only got asked for a drink once and my drink order was wrong. We noticed that other customers had to wait a long time to get their orders or drinks. The view from the terrace was beautiful and sunny weather.

Really pleased to see a place that offers grilled fish, and not just fried options. Hake was delicious. The fish soup was very tasty. Staff were friendly and efficient. Very reasonably priced. Oh, and the lemonade is real lemonade! The only thing I'd mention is to make it clear on the menu that the fish in the "Bite of the Sea" dish is a much smaller size than the regular one.

Don't Sit outside You won't get serve. as they give more importance people who are sitting inside. I was given the menu and sitting for 20 min no one came. I went to the manager and got served straight away. And after that again no one came to us had our 1st plate after 45 min. Again if you want to get attentions and serve please sit Inside.

Wonderful service by the team, and the bonus they now accept Blue light cards as well, we enjoyed so much we have booked to go again next Saturday evening.

We were hoping the experience would be the same as a South African Ocean Basket & were not disappointed! The service from Aimee and the team was great, the food tasted great and we had a lovely view over the river with people feeding the ducks. Will recommended other friends to visit as well.

Whilst this started out as a great establishment, things have really gone downhill. Staff refused to seat us on a bigger table, despite there being at least 8 available. These were held for 'reservations' - however from the moment we arrived until we left these remained empty. We were 3 adults and a child cramped on a table meant for two. One gentlemen at the entrance was particularly rude about it and said others are seated like that and are managing - I saw parties of two sat at much bigger tables. Food quality has also gone down. The prawns were bland and portion sizes much smaller than before. We also specifically ordered lemon butter sauce to go with our mains and this only arrived after we had to ask twice, by which time our food was cold. Very disappointed overall and won't be returning.

Sunday evening , Yes very good around ... happy to seat you where you wanted to sit. Blond waitress very very good( didn't get her name) we sat quite close to the windows . food was very well prepared , grilled fish and calamari , greek house salad . only negative was the salad was forgotten to begin with and then came twice , otherwise a great experience , well done team ,. staff all polite , happy ,friendly , professional ... will be back ..

Staff is friendly and accommodating, food is amazing value and overall a pleasure to visit.

The food didn’t taste fresh. The lemon sauce tasted cheesy or burnt or something. No bowl to cleanse your fingers despite ordering a seafood platter. No butter or oil with the bread.the platter for two was £50 but you can get fresher fish for better prices elsewhere. The atmosphere is nice, and if you’re lucky enough to get a seat on the deck the view is nice. However, we were promised a seat outside once one came free but they forgot about us and seated a walk in outside, and then another table of people who had arrived after us and left us sitting inside. The staff are all quite young and half asleep. So it is a shame to have to pay 12.5% service. I would never eat here again or recommend it to anyone.

This restaurant has been on my radar for a while and it was worth the wait. A friend and I shared the platter for two. It was enough for 2 people but if you have a big appetite then you might consider a different choice. The fried seafood was the best, the tender calamari was a bit tough and needed flavour. The fish was the best but the star of the show was the garlic sauce! PLEASE get this, it was amazing and the best garlic sauce I have ever tasted, I could have literally drank this. It levelled up the whole meal and ended this experience on a 7/10. The cocktails were also a highlight, great flavour and huge! Our servers customer service was outstanding, very attentive and kind. Would recommend a visit.
