Great food and service. A must visit!

This has fast become a favourite restaurant to celebrate a family birthday! On the request of our son, we visited to celebrate his birthday. He has a shellfish allergy but loves Ocean Basket fried cod and chips, and his allergy has always been catered for. On this occasion, the waitress told us that because of a platter special they were running with shellfish, all meals were being prepared in the same oil. He would need to order grilled fish and rice. Seemingly far from the birthday meal he had in mind, but completely understanding of the situation, we decided to finish our drinks and find somewhere else for his birthday dinner. On hearing this, the Manager (Julian) came to our table and told us he would absolutely make a plan to have our son's meal cooked separately and catered for! We were so appreciative of the effort they put in to make sure our son could celebrate there... and even sang happy birthday when they brought his dessert! Great restaurant... and fantastic Manager!!

Listen, I've wrestled sharks in the deep blue, battled braai flames that could singe a baboon's bum, but nothing prepared me for the sheer force of hospitality that is Saeideh at Ocean Basket. This woman, I tell you, she didn't just serve seafood, she orchestrated a symphony of oceanic delights! My tastebuds did the toyi-toyi, my stomach sang Shosholoza! Forget the Crown Jewels, Saeideh is the true treasure of London. She didn't just give us service, she gave us a performance, a one-woman show titled 'How to Make a South African Feel Like They're Back in Umhlanga, Even When They're Freezing Their Bits Off in London.' I'm convinced she sprinkles magic dust on the calamari. If you don't ask for Saeideh, you're missing out on a culinary experience that'll have you writing poetry on your napkin!

Saeideh took care of us, my friend and her child for our lunch date today. Food was amazing, adequate portions, and for a good price.

Despite arriving at the wrong time for my booking, the staff were very accommodating and managed to fit us in (and with an outside table on the warmest day of the year to date). They were incredibly busy which meant service wasn't quite up to scratch where we had long periods without any drinks and drinks took a long time to arrive after being ordered. As always, good food and good value for money. Great atmosphere being on the river. Highly recommend the amarula Dom Pedro.

Favourite seafood spot and worth the hour's drive from Berkshire. I've been many times and I'll keep coming back. Saeideh was our server and she was so lovely, friendly, bubbly and attentive. Her name means "happy" which she embodies 100%. Highly recommend

Love their food and the service I've received from here. My go to is their Hake and Prawn combo, generally both grilled with half rice and half chips. I've tried their veggies portion, it is divine. Their dom Pedro tastes as amazing as it does in South Africa, before you know it you've finished the entire drink, so so good!

For our 20th anniversary, we wanted something special. Somewhere with great food, a warm atmosphere, and a beautiful setting. Ocean Basket Kingston delivered on all fronts. Nestled by the River Thames, the view was stunning, especially looking over the water. We shared a seafood platter piled high with fresh prawns, calamari, and mussels, all perfectly cooked and drizzled with their famous "liquid gold" garlic butter. The greek salad is a must side order. The service was impeccable, attentive, but never intrusive, making us feel truly celebrated. Although we thought we could fit no more in, we indulged in a Dom Pedro, a South African-style boozy milkshake, which was the perfect sweet touch. It was an unforgettable anniversary lunch, and we can’t wait to return with family and friends!

It was our first time there and we might become regular customers. Mina was very welcoming and the staff were very friendly, which made our experience more special. The food was fresh and tasty. The location is in the heart of Kingston and, if you get lucky, you’ll get a nice view of the Thames.

Ocean Basket Kingston never disappoints! I came here with my friend (as we always do for our catch-ups), and once again, the experience was fantastic. I had the Platter for One, and it was absolutely amazing—fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection! The seafood was delicious, and the portion was just right. Our waitress, Saeideh, was wonderful—friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. The atmosphere is always warm and welcoming, making it the perfect spot for a relaxed meal. Highly recommend this place! Can’t wait to come back again.

Underwhelming and over priced. Sharer was not enough for 2 people. The chips were barely enough for one person. Prawns are small, once cut in half and grilled there is almost no point trying the separate the fused shell from the tiny amount of prawns left. Disappointing. ***** Update***** I emailed them as per their reply and I am yet to get a response. Completely disingenuous service.

OB Kingston has had a noticeable decline of late and is a far cry from the high CX standards on display when it first started in Kingston. We were made to wait for over 20 minutes before someone came to greet us and take our orders. The seafood platter we ordered was half cold, the breads hard & cold, and we were placed next to a service table with used utensils (very hygienic!). Getting the attention of a waiter was an ordeal - disappointing given it was a quiet Monday evening. Seems the manager was far interested in planning the rest of the evening's after-activities instead of attending to customers. We skipped dessert just to get out of there quickly. Feel free to take the +12.5% service fee added automatically to the bill - I also couldn't be bothered to argue about the wrong order item in my bill. We won't be coming back. What a pity! OB at some of the smallest towns in ZA far outshines the Kingston experience we had this evening...

My new favourite restaurant. Amazing place, food is delicious and great value. Huge variety of seafood. Great wine selection. Been 3 times now and it's fantastic. Staff are super friendly and the CEO Grace is an absolute gem. Lovely river location. Go check it out, you won't be disappointed.

Having enjoyed Ocean Basket in South Africa, we were instantly transported back to Cape Town with the amazing view and delicious seafood.

Saeideh was a wonderful host and the food was just as good as the Cyprus and Malta branches.

What a steal of a meal for a Wednesday night date night! Staff were lovely on arrival and really attentive during meal. The Wednesday deal ‘bite of the ocean’ is brilliant value and a food incentive to get people out and about during the week. Food tasted fresh and presented nicely in a cute pan! Drinks came out fast and the bread on arrival was tasty too. Highly recommend a visit - we will be back soon.

Had a lovely family meal to celebrate my birthday. Food was great, choice was impressive, price was fair and restaurant had a great vibe. Clean and well organized. Lovely view over the river too. What was really special was the service. Our waitress Saeideh (had to make her spell that, hope I got it right) was just so good. Friendly, bubbly and full of fun as well as being very professional. If all your staff are like that and your food is always that good we’ll be regulars.

I had a wonderful experience here; their fish and chips are fantastic, especially the service from Saeideh, which was magnificent.

We visited with two of our South African friends on their recommendation. We were all disappointed to say the least. Not what they (having dined in the South African ones) or we were expecting at all. Insanely overpriced for what it is…cafe style dining experience at high end restaurant prices. Cheapest bottle of wine is £26. Food was mediocre at best and not a large portion for the money. The real joke was them trying to add a £20 service charge to the bill. Someone needs to take a good hard look at how you run this joint…and put the prices down…and let the customer decide whether or not they choose to tip. We won’t be back.

I was very impressed with my lunch at the Kingston Ocean Basket which is located by the River Thames and has a great view of the river. I had grilled hake fish and chips, and the fish was cooked to perfection. The service was also very good. Would definitely recommend

The servers were fantastic this afternoon 02nd Feb for our 1345-2pm lunch booking.Very polite, friendly and prompt service.We had booked a table for lunch for our post anniversary and we were given a nice table by the window facing the river.Food and drinks arrived quickly.The only negative thing my wife stated, it appeared portion sizes had decreased on the sharing platter.Overall the food was delicious but it was the staff who delivered a memorable experience.
