Me and my missus came for our anniversary, had a lovely mains and starters. Very wide range of drinks that’s are affordable and delicious. Thanks Charlie for your great service.

I really enjoyed the calamari, prawns, mussels and cape hake. All my favourite sea food cooked the way I like it. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who likes seafood.

Had a wonderful meal here as a table of 12. The service was great and staff friendly. Views overlooking the Thames while we ate which just adds to the experience. The food was fantastic and at a great price considering it is seafood. Good selection of drinks and i was chuffed to see that they offer Dom Pedros for dessert, if you know you know.

Seafood platter for 2, well worth it being able to have a bit of everything and you get complementary bread whilst waiting for food.

Just had a wonderful lunch for my husband's birthday. The food was amazing and service impeccable- they even popped out to get crayons for the children. We've had Ocean Basket in SA, Cyprus and Kingston now and it never disappoints!

Literally my favourite spot by the river for a cheeky lunch on a balcony with a stunning view or for a family celebrations. The team is so engaging and efficient, the atmosphere is always top notch would highly recommend, you must visit!

Food took about 45-60 mins too come and when it did come the food was alright and not how good I had been expecting. If you like fried kalamari do not come here they do a really bad job of making one and would not recommend it

Was such a nice surprise to find a Ocean Basket in Kingston as we have recently moved here from South Africa 🇿🇦 and to find a place that reminds you of home and right next to the river was amazing. The food was awesome, wine was flowing ( chenin blanc ) and the South African tunes were playing. Definitely one of my happy places ☺️

Cuisine, atmosphere: rather satisfied Ultra slow service, one of the waiters walking past us several times without calculating even though we had been waiting 10 minutes to take our order. At the end, we got takeaway for someone who hadn't come with us: at least 30 minutes some "Dynamite prawns"...

Lovely experience. A post I made on the Ocean Basket Facebook about going to the Kingston branch for my husband‘s 50th birthday was picked up by the CEO and she asked that the staff made it extra special for my hubby! Well they did! A birthday card, 50 balloons and complimentary lemon meringue tart. All the staff were attentive, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The personal touches made my husband’s day and we are extremely grateful. The food was delicious and tasty. I had a platter for one and my husband had the calamari three ways. So lovely to have a taste from home right on our doorstep. Thank you ocean basket for the fantastic experience. We will be back!

We visited this restaurant for a Friday early dinner. We were shown to our table perfectly positioned by a window with beautiful river views by a very pleasant member of staff. The food was delicious, well priced and all came wonderfully served. Oysters were fresh and tasty, dynamite prawns were large and perfectly cooked, mussels were to die for and the squid heads were crunchy and flavourful. The staff, although very young, were all very friendly, professional, brought everything we asked for in Olympic record breaking fashion and all of them without exception are a credit to this restaurant. We will definitely come back and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this restaurant to friends and family.

Surprisingly our favourite restaurant never expected for a seafood restaurant good staff and friendly

This was my first visit to Ocean Basket in the UK. I was keen to go as I love their restaurants in South Africa. We were warmly welcomed and given a table by the window overlooking the river. The haddock was exceptional, the best I have tasted in ages. I wish more restaurants served it. The service was quick and the staff were attentive. Adam and Helena deserve a special mention. I have recommended it to friends and look forward to a return visit

I must say. Came here for my 35th Birthday, and I was a bit sceptical. Been going to OB back in South Africa, and hoping the food will be the same, in fact, it was better… the pan fried calamari was succulent and tender. The flavours were just out of this world. Prawns, calamari heads… it was better than expected, the Kahlua don pedro was just perfect! Maurice was serving us, and he was lovely. Micheal Angelo the manager was very polite and kept checking to see if we were okay. Would 100% recommend!

Absolutely appalling!!!! very very rude management!!! Took my family to Ocean Basket for my wife's birthday dinner suprise, wasn't greeted at the door for nearly 4/5 minutes. We waited over an hour for our food. Asked for a manager, he came over and told me to wait like everyone else and "what do you expect, everyone wants food too, not just you" disgusting behaviour! Truly appalling! Staff seem to stand around with managers doing nothing, had to get ketchup. Nothing was done for my wife's birthday. Asked for service charge to be removed and was met with distain. Of course, no one said goodbye!

Love the Ocean Basket. As a South African, I started going to them when they launched in SA about 30 years ago, so having them launch in the UK now is fantastic. They do a great seafood platter for about £25. Nice wines to go with the seafood as well. Try a Kahlua Don Pedro instead of a pud, they're great. Not the best menu for vegetarians but highly recommended for seafood lovers.

I write this review because I really hope this will help see some improvement. My partner and I love Ocean Basket however we were both disappointed with our dinner tonight that we were looking forward to and the overall experience. The service was really slow and our food arrived cold. Our starter and extra sauce on side only arrived after our mains were served, which only came through when we had to remind our waiter. We also noticed the standard condiments of tartar sauce, chilli and garlic sauce was not on our table or anyone’s table which was a first. The staff were friendly which was good but felt there was a lack of management that evening. Our main food was tasty but again it was not enjoyable due to being cold. Slow service and cold food made it a disappointing experience. We’ve eaten at this restaurant a couple times before and we’ve had pleasant experiences in the past. We noticed some things have changed since our last visit but we expect to have the same quality/standard as when the store first opened.

Really impressed with our lunch experience. Grilled fish, lots of healthy choices, good choice for kids. Excellent views of the river, lovely decor. Service was impeccable. We will be back

Great fish but this place tests your patience before you get the food. Waited for 90 mins for the food which I would have watched another football match. The waitress dissed us when we chase for food after an hour and said they are short of staffs …

Ocean basket is really well known in South Africa so was keen to try this new one in Kingston. Great service and location. We have the seafood platter which was huge and really good value for money

Visited Saturday night with my son who tends to see the world a little differently from other people. Special mention to Charlie who looked after us and especially took time to speak with Aleks. Food was good…. But Charlie is the reason we will return!!

It was overall a nice experience. We had a warm and lovely welcome. The atmosphere and the view is great. The food was also delicious, if it were served at a better timing. I believe the ingredients they use are all nice but all the food we ordered came at the same time, starters and mains! Some of them were already colder, making us think they waited the others. We also needed time to eat them so we had to eat that delicious food quite cold. I would visit again but not ordering them all at once again :)

We had the most incredible experience tonight in Kingston Upon Thames! It was truly South African, and we were blown away. The food was absolutely amazing.There's just nothing that can compare to the taste of South African fish.

Further down the high street was this fish restaurant. Its quite spacious and we enjoyed the view of the river. The menu is a little confusing as it doesn't always mention if a side is included. We went for the whitebait and calamari which had a lovely texture and we're very moreish. The cod and chips arrived in a frying pan, which made eating it a little awkward. The cod could have been crisper so I didn't eat the coating as it was on the soggy side. The staff were friendly and helpful. I think the restaurant is in a good location and is very reasonably priced compared with the rest of the other chains on the high street. I would definitely return.

Friendly and helpful staff. Food was very yummy. Not a lot on the fish ranges but plenty to go for. Prawns and Hake was excellent, so was the Cod and chips. Garlic sauce on the side for me 😋🙂

Service is slow, and the mains took an hour to arrive. The food is average. The cajun calarami was bland, and didn't seem to have any cajun seasoning at all. the portion of fries was mean, and that's not often the case in restaurants. We were offered a discount on the bill but it didn't materialise. Staff is friendly but the restaurant is cutting corners front of house and in the kitchen. I would stay away until the issues are sorted out.

having tried ocean basket in Durban south Africa many of times me and my wife decided to take a trip to kingston!! we really enjoyed the service and meal staff were very friendly! would definitely recommend and we really can’t wait to return!

Well...... As we went out as a group there are mixed feelings about OB. The good: Staff were polite and helpful. Nice view (window seats). Fish options of grilled, fried, and Cajun. The bread rolls. Questions regarding allergies on entry The bad: Unavailable items are still shown on the menu, out of stock items are not indicated until orders. The undecided: Is the food cooked from frozen? Who chooses the music!!!! Would we come again? Unanimous vote of no.

Just want to say that all the servers we had was lovely today, I have worked in a restaurant for 3 years now so I hate complaining !!! We came in today and ordered the drinks but wasn’t to our taste and was changed no probs, unfortunately we ordered a family platter with the fish grilled and the sauce on the side but sadly came fried with sauce on dish, I hate giving trouble to waiters due to some busyness but I think it’s very over priced. £80 for 2 heads and service included. Lovely service though so thankyou

A truly missed opportunity with this place, with so much promise. Location is great and food was nice, but they miss out massively on service. We came for lunch, and the restaurant was half full. We had to wait a long time to get attention and order anything, and they forgot to put a table cloth on our table. Weird....starter came and we had to ask for the drinks we ordered firstly, which they had forgotten. Then had to ask for the bread, which they announced on the menu was a staple for all tables. After that we waited 1 hour (!?) for our mains, and also asked several times. As we had a train to catch we asked for the bill..also several times, until we had to go to the exit and urge them for it. Being in a rush, I tapped my card, got the receipt and rushed off. Having a glimpse at the bill outside I realised it was wrong and for another table, and we had psid almost double of our bill. Rushing back, they then took a long time to find the right bill, but could not reverse it due to their systems (really?!). So I had to leave my account details and was promised the money back shortly. Still waiting.....what a shambles. Get staff trained and systems in place before serving people!

We dined last night with another couple and the whole experience was very disappointing. Two of us ordered the Platter of One, my wife ordered the Cape Hake with half chips and half rice, her friend ordered the Bite of the Ocean. The food arrived cold and with a minimal amount of sauce. We also had two Kahlua Dom Pedros, a Berry Cheesecake and Walnut Chocolate Lava for our desserts which were very tasty and a nice end to a very mediocre meal. We had to ask the waitress for extra sauces as the sauces provided with each meal were not sufficient. I previously dinned twice during 2023 and the food was excellent on both occasions however on this occasion it definitely was not the same experience. I don't know if I imagined it but the portion of food on the platters seemed smaller and we were charged an extra £1.50 per sauce for the Garlic Sauce and Lemon Sauce respectively. Previously we have never been charged extra for the sauces. I'm in two minds whether to visit again in the future. Its just wasn't the same standard that I have experienced in the past.

I had an amazing experience! The food was excellent, and the staff were incredibly friendly. I especially enjoyed the calamari dish. For dessert, I ordered a milkshake, which was the best I've ever had.

We went to this amazing place yesterday, located next to the river. We didn’t have any reservation but they still found a place for us, the food was really good, we had the Family platter and everything was properly cooked, the costumer service was fantastic and even the music was super nice. We definitely recommend this place and will come back!⭐️

It was our first time going to Ocean Basket, and we really enjoyed having the fish soup as well as a platter for TWO. The portion was very generous so I believe it could have easily satisfied three people. The seafood was fresh and we were given a choice to grill or deep fry the hake and our calamari. The creamy mussels were a delight!!! The complementary bread was also really tasty! I would definitely recommend and come back :)

No allergen info on the menu and no list of allergens available anywhere. I asked the waitress if one dish was gluten free, it took ages to get an answer and when I did I got some confusing story about calamari being available as heads but not tubes. When we came to order it turned out lots of the items were unavailable (king prawns, calamari, haddock and more), it would have been nice to be told when we were first given menus. Took over 15 mins just for drinks to arrive. Food was not particularly good for th price and some of it was almost cold. There was a hairy in my ice cream too but by that point I wasn't surprised as the service had been so poor.

Although the food is good here from past experience, we had a shocking experience with service when we tried to go again. We called ahead and asked if they could fit us in within 30 minutes. We were assured this would be no trouble and they said no need to provide our name. When we arrived, we were told ‘the owner told you that and she doesn’t have a good understanding of what’s possible with table availability’. We drove out of our way to come here and it’s probably the last time we’ll try.

Although ignored on entry by a female staff member, once seated, our waiter was very professional and a pleasure to deal with. Unfortunately we didn't get his name. Having eaten in Ocean Basket restaurants in 4 different countries, find slight variations on each menu but the same good quality and value for money seafood. In short, we would recommended this restaurant and would definitely return.

Food was delicious we didn’t expect the generous portions.Very convenient for us who live in Kingston and this is fronting Riverside. The mussels was tasty I enjoyed everything we haven’t finished the whole thing and asked for the rest to go.

Had a birthday dinner there last night - first time at the OB in the UK, and as a born and bred Saffa, it had a lot to live up to. Food was excellent, the staff even more so. A big thank you to Josh, Charlie and Bobbi - you guys made it a very special night. Definitely 5 stars, and well worth the visit.

Absolutely phenomenal!!! This was the busiest I've seen the restaurant in a long time but the staff made sure no customer was turned away. The waiter staff were absolutely rapid and i assume the gentleman with the black jumper and glasses was the manager. This guy is Ocean Basket Kingston hype man! He was amazingly motivating the staff, i could even hear him downstairs in the kitchen motivating the chefs. There was a tiny bit of a wait for food but that was understandable considering the situation. I would definitely come back again!!

We pre booked table for 5. When we turned up the greeter was busy putting a delivery order together.. did not acknowledge us and put a finger in the air to indicate he would be a minute. Then another waiter greeted us and said he would be with us in a second.. we placed on one table by the door on a cold night and so asked to sit somewhere else, this seemed a problem at first… then we were ushered into a dark dingy corner table and it was even colder. Eventually we were placed on the middle of the restaurant which yet again not great as we were no in the way of the waiters it felt… overall the restaurant was cold. Then ordered our food but we were missing cutlery and had to request.. we then ordered the largest platter some salad and another dish. There was four of us eating the platter and it seemed very small for £70. The rice was not cooked still hard, the prawns were flavourless , barely enough chips to be shared between 4 people …. This is a real shame as I love the ones in Cyprus and SA but this feels like a low quality restaurant that just wants you in and out as fast as possible. At £142 for 5 people it isn’t cheap cheap.

It tastes like home. As South Africans, some of us live in the UK and some of us were traveling from the US, we drove 40 minutes to go to this Ocean Basket because we heard from other South Africans that this Ocean Basket is just like the food that we love from our home Country and it absolutely was. Thank you for giving us a piece of home.

Being one of favourites back home in Soutb Africa, it’s really great that we have ocean basket in London. Have been twice to this branch and both times the food , the service and the atmosphere has been amazing. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great seafood l. To be honest without being to bias they probably make the best fish and chips in London! Which is a bold statement !

Me and my friend went out for dinner at Ocean Basket, and the night started with such a nice atmosphere provided by Niki and his trainee. They were always around, making sure that all we need is provided. Lovely service.

Cute restaurant with nice sea food. However, some of our food came cold which wasn’t great but they quickly changed this for us which was good. We had to sit near the door due to having a pram, it was super cold and too many staff members gathering around the till and talking & shouting really loud, could barely hear ourselves speak.

Avoid unless you fancy spending the rest of the evening with your head in a toilet. Overpriced, understaffed and a poor business model. Staff given very little to no help by management in the way of setup. Food took ages to come and was very underwhelming when it did.

Wow, honestly was a terrible experience. Food was rubbery and under seasoned. Staff were dismissive and rude. Owners were not interested in my comments!

Simple menu, great fish, good value for money.

As a South African expat, my family and I love(d?) coming here (been 6 times in 2023). We came on 28th December and had a very subpar/different experience. May have been December madness, but something was off * Fries were suddenly "skinny fries", not the nice chunky ones, which are just better. The helping size also felt smaller * Classic Fish and Chips went up from £9.50 to £10.00, and was chewy * Default tip of 12.5% added to bill; getting very American here * Waiter was very new, made lots of excuses, was cheery, but with some serious edge and made lots of excuses. Also didn't/couldn't/wouldn't organise a babyccino and hot water * New menu tries to go back to OB heritage, yet they're changing fries, and the menu now looks a lot less inviting (no pictures and pretty dull) Gonna have to evaluate coming here again. Disappointing.

We had a friendly waiter serve us tonight but he forget things (to bring enough glasses to the table, knives and forks (as he cleared our table of used cutlery before the meal arrived) sauces we ordered as extras, chips for one of the meals.) We were the only table in the upper section and there were only a few tables in the lower section yet our food took around 40 mins to come. When the food got to the table it was ice cold! The calamari was horrible- every piece I had, had cartilage in it. It was very unpleasant. The lemon sauce had a rancid taste to it. The curry sauce and garlic sauce were lovely. I have eaten at several Ocean Basket and always have a fabulous meal. This experience was enough for me, not to go back there again.

As previous customers of the one in Cyprus we were very excited to see OB in Kingston. We were not disappointed. The service was very good and efficient from the start where we felt tended to but not overwhelmed. The food arrived quickly and was really good and tasty. So excited to have this in Kingston and looking forward to returning when the weather is better to sit outside by the river ☺️

Notable Shipping and Removals and staff went to Ocean Basket in Kingston last night 17.12.2023. We were so well looked after and the manager Shawn was amazing. Our waiter Nikkie was so helpful and accommodating. I have to give a huge shout out to Emily as well, her smile is contagious and her service is brilliant. If you want to enjoy your meal with great service and a brilliant atmosphere then please go to Ocean Basket in Kingston. I have recommended this branch to all my friends and family. Warm and friendly reception on our arrival. Nicki, looked after our every need. We enjoyed our post theatre meal and will definitely be back again.
