Recently tried the battered cod and chips from this place, and it was a delight! Generous portions and absolutely delicious. The batter was crispy, the fish was tender, and the chips were just right. Plus, the service was fantastic - definitely recommend giving it a try!

Great staff. But this place has gone seriously down hill. Chips dry and in edible AGAIN. Last time I will visit. It’s just too hit and miss and it’s just not worth it.

Asked specifically for extra salt and vinegar when ordering from Just Eat and they didn’t put a single grain of salt or vinegar on it. Ridiculously overpriced for what it is, very small portion of cod and chips, don’t waste your money here.

Really friendly staff (our waiter was very friendly and explained the menu and catered to our dietary requirements)! Great space for a bigger group! Fantastic portion size of fish - we tried plaice, cod and haddock! Would recommend especially for groups!

Ordered a "large cod", which turned out about the size of a fish finger. Undercooked too. Long term customer, now disappointed and won't be coming back.

Whilst this is a little pricier than some places, this is by far the best fish and chip shop locally. The cod and chips are perfection, the balsamic dressed side salad, tartar sauce and mushy peas only add to the experience. Simply fantastic.

I had a proper plate of fish and chips here. Chips are crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. The cod is crispy yet not greasy - very impressed by this. The flesh was juicy and flaky too. It comes with mushy peas, tartare sauce, and a salad for around 15 quid. The food alone would've satisfied me, but the service was wonderful too. Very friendly and the food came out quite quickly. If you're craving fish and chips and you're in the area, this is a must try spot.

Far too expensive even considering the global increased costs of oil etc. Quality also has gone downhill since change of ownership. Very sad as the cod and chips here up until a couple of years ago were £9 a portion. Now costs over £25 for two people to have takeaway, terrible.

This is the best place around for Fish and Chips, it’s great quality food and well presented. You can either eat in or take away. If you eat in as I have many times recently the Fish and Chips are served with tartare sauce, lemon, mushy peas and salad quite delicious! Tables are well presented and decor okay well worth a regular visit.

Incredibly pushy. Misleading sign of meals for less than 5 pounds, the truth is you'll get nothing for less than 12 pounds in there. I asked for a price and they expected me to sit down before giving me a menu. I gathered all my patience as I just wanted to eat and chill, and sat down. When they came to take the order, they pushed to sell me a side I hadn't asked for without making it clear it was at an additional price. In the end for literally 4 king prawns, a tiny pea mash and a plain salad they wanted to extort nearly 19 pounds. What's worst, the sign outside advertised a gluten free alternative, I did say I was celiac as soon as I entered, and only after I'd sat down they told me they had that gluten-free item only on Tuesdays. They'll never see me again.

Best Chips around!! Best Vegan Spring roll too! Totally yummy and comforting. Really helpful happy team. (More vegan options, please)... Battered Tofue with Seaweed is delicious 😋!!! You will get loads of people in for that if you advertise it. Thanks all.!!!

Updated: The quality of the food and service seems to have declined in recent times which is a huge shame. It’s not the same as it was and I have been told it’s different ownership to when it started. One of the young women serving even started telling me about her personal dating woes with some pretty colourful language which I was taken aback by considering we’d never met.. It’s still an average fish and chip dinner but for the price it’s not necessarily somewhere I would now go out of my way to get. I can honestly say the fish and chips here is the best I've had. It's cooked fresh and is still steaming hot when I get it home 10 minutes later. The portions are a decent size and will fill you up for sure. The amount of meat on the fish is amazing, great value for money. And I would definitely recommend the mushy peas - they're incredible. Staff are very warm and welcoming, and actually want to give you a lovely experience. All round winner in my opinion and now my favourite take away around! Great to have you in New Malden guys :)

Lovley place with a lovely atmosphere! The food is cooked to perfection honestly the best fish and chips i’ve had. Excellent customer service and excellent portion sizes. If anyone fancies a proper traditional fish and chips definitely visit this place.

Salt and Vinegar Fish and Chips is my favourite restaurant. I am yet to find a better Fish and Chip shop and I have sampled many. They are not quite as good as they once were when the fish used to have to be cut in half in order to fit in the box but I believe that this is through no fault of their own. The fish sizes are smaller but still very tasty and the chips have always been divine. Would recommend to anyone.

Dunno how I missed this place! Just had large chips. Wow! Gorgeous. Taste that potato! cooked to order, huge portion and delivered with style in a cardboard box and paper bag. I’ll be back sharpish for a sit down meal

High quality, good portions and timely service. Absolutely fantastic. Would easily recommend dining in. Some detailed points: 1. The mushy peas: are minted and come with the main meal (chips, fish and salad). They are some of the best mushy peas I’ve had. 2. The curry sauce: whilst being on the pricey side, it’s well worth it if there are two of you. 3. You can get the fish either grilled or battered. 4. They serve alcohol (not on tap) on the premises. Would highly recommend.

Disgusting service. Issue with payment going through, was on the phone to card holder to get permission to try again. Staff member was talking over me and then when I finished my card payment on the phone stormed off. Came back, was very rude and aggressive. Slammed the card machine down for me to pay and then stormed off again. Some one apologised on his behalf and blamed the hot weather and that fact it’s hot. Not good enough, you don’t treat paying customers this way. Asked to speak to a manager and this has not happened. Will not be spending my money here again.

Friendly service & a broader menu than many fish & chip shops. Tasty food. Not cheap though.

Nice atmosphere and decor, wonderful variety on the menu but OH MY GOD THE MUSHY PEAS ARE AMAZING!!! If you come here, you’ve got to try them! I have no idea how they make them taste so nice! Possibly magic? Definitely will come again.

Possibly the best fish and chips I have had, chips wasn't greasy or soggy they was nice and crisp, the curry sauce was amazing and the cod fillet burger was also very very good. Only thing I would say is the staff could look abit more happier

Best Fish and Chips !!! I’ve been looking for a great fish and chip restaurant and I think I’ve found it !! After going to many restaurants, I’ve been disappointed with the quality of fish or the tight portions given. I can honestly say the batter and chips were just as gorgeous, staff were friendly, I even got offered a free cup of tea as recognised me as a previous customer. I would highly recommend this place. I’ll be back very soon

To be honest the chips are good but the atmosphere is off the staff look at you as if why are you here and look very very angry

The attitude of the staff was no desirable. The girl serving made me feel unwelcome. She was also cleaning the dirt from beneath her finger nails while serving. The chips were overpriced and had no flavour. Even with salt and vinegar. The takeaway packaging is fancy. Everything is overpriced.

Rock hard saveloy. Soft gherkins with small pieces of a magazine (I assume) stuck to it . Very disappointed and delivery was 25 minutes longer than advertised. Chips were okay.

Chips absolutely perfect. But the cod was half the national average and as thin as a razor blade.

Really tasty fish and chips. The salmon however was a bit disappointing as it was really small.

This place is seriously good!! We just moved into the neighbourhood and picked this restaurant for our first meal. The chips are PERFECT! Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside; not too sweet oily either. The fish was soft and moist, but could be larger in size (my wife wasn’t happy about it) . Not a frozen one like you’d normally get in most places.

I don't like the staff behavior. No politeness. They are treating customers not in good way.

Calamari was excellent- light batter, perfectly cooked and ideal portion. It isn't cheap though, but its possibly the best I've had in years.

Good food only problem was misunderstanding when communicating with staff. Friendly

First of all, the manager is very polite and helpful. I am extremely grateful for the way he composed himself and spoke passionately about his menu and business overall. However, I have docked a star as the server at the front is rude, impolite and not at all welcoming. Has a face like a slapped arse, not once did she crack a smile. Furthermore, when I challenged the price of my order she accused me of lying about what I had asked for instead of apologising for the miscommunication. If not for the lovely manager and the overall quality of the food, I would take my custom elsewhere. Maybe the lady is having a bad day however, if this is how she usually treats customers, I would strongly advise you retrain in customer service.

(X WAS HERE) 2 stars for friendly staff and clean surrounding. This place has got potential. However, during the time I was served today for lunch, it wasn't busy. Chips obviously reheated while my partner had fresh fried ones. Fish was fresh but wasn't cooked properly. Above all these, it's overpriced. I'm not coming back.

It's sometimes hard to find good chip shops that get both elements right, but this one manages it. The chips are always perfectly cooked - fluffy but with a bit of texture - and the fish has a light crunchy batter and flavorful flesh. Good range of pies and extras also.

Delicious fish and chips. Light crispy batter and the chips are thick cut and crispy on the outside but soft and potatoey on the inside. Best fish and chips I've ever had. Full of flavor and worth every penny

Ordered on deliveroo. I ordered what I expected to be a full meal and turned out to be only a fillet of fish. The picture on the site is misleading - it makes it look like it is cod fillet, chips, mushy peas and a sauce for £9.95 - not even a lemon wedge! Good thing I have ordered tartar sauce as an extra. I will not order again, I paid £15 (inc. delivery) for a fillet of fish when in the restaurant you sell the full meal for under £10. Unbelievable!

Grabbed fish & chips last minute for my elderly friend & we decided to share it, wish I’d kept it all to myself . Absolutely delicious, batter crispy & light & no yucky fish skin. Will be making this a weekly ritual.

Had a takeout, the packaging is cute. Had the burger meal for about £6 which included some type of sandwich; I choose the cod fillet, chips and a drink. The chips were tasty and were so much. The cod fillet was a bit bland for my taste; maybe season the batter before frying? And a drink, there are different choices. I'd go again there because there seemed to be a lot of choice and the dishes look tasty. During the lockdown its only takeaway.

We have used this restuarant many times, mainly the takeaway service. This evening (16/12) I ordered grilled haddock and cod. It was ready when I arrived and was superb.The grilled fish we have eaten from here has been consistently excellent and is why I will come back.

Went there with a friend on Fri 11th around 7-8pm. He had a Meal and cleaned the plate. I had some ice cream. Nice 'plaice'.

An absolutely exceptional place. Everything is very clean an atmosphere as I have rarely seen in restaurants, very cheerful staff, always with a smile on their face and always giggling! The food is absolutely delicious and you wear it very big, the desserts are fantastic. Wonderful service, the waitress was very attentive to us and helped us a lot with recommendations, very cheerful and nice. I will definitely be back here, they even have a 50% offer on all food, they are wonderful

You can order home delivery through Uber Eats, it was fast, still piping hit when it arrived and the small chips was a very generous portion. They also offer vegetarian friendly options, but burgers don't have many toppings.

Nice to find GF options (but note this is only on a Tuesday!) The portions are HUGE, but I guess they should be as it’s not super cheap... really good quality food though. And well packaged for takeaway 🙂

Went to salt and vinegar last night Saturday 3/10 it was a last minute thing and it was close to closing time but we were still greeted with a warm welcome great service and fantastic food, will definitely be returning highly recommended 👏🏽👍

Was able to book a table with ease over the phone. Felt safe to enjoy my meal with my family in a socially distanced environment :) The waitress was really passionate about fish and had tasted most of the menu so was able to give good insights and suggestions of what to order (everything you want from a restaurant that specialises in fish!) Decent sized portions, gave the option of swapping out mushy peas for garden peas - I've never liked the former, so having the option was nice! :) I would eat here again. The battered Rock was really good value for the quality and quantity!

I was glad to get a table - August 31st, about 6:30pm. Most of the restaurants along the High Street were full; some of the Korean places even had queues around the corner.The staff were incredibly friendly, fast and professional. No complaints at all on that score. Food was about average for a High Street sit-in chippy, but not out of this world.Food was served quickly and hot - pie and chips on the first really cold day for a while. Hit the spot nicely.I only have 2 negatives - one in their control and one not.The spacing between tables is very tight. A large family one side and a couple on the other. There's no such thing as privacy or confidentiality when you're crammed in so close. And barely any sign of staff or customers using face coverings. All a bit worrying, but what else can you do in a small place like this?More annoyingly though, is the value for money. As mentioned I was getting 50% off, so I was happy with that. But at regular price, I would not rate this as good value.Specifically, they charge £1.90 for the smallest side of mushy peas I've seen; barely two forkfuls of peas and it's done (see picture). Seriously, £1.90 for that is taking the mick.Maybe it's priced for all the people with Range Rovers and BMWs along the High Street. But we're not all Surrey-rich, and I won't be gong there again until they have a big review of pricing.I'm sure they've had a financial hit this year, but I'm judging my experience by normal standards.Otherwise, not bad. I was happy to leave a 20% tip - good service.

First of all, I ordered my chips and specifically asked for extra salt and vinegar and it 100% did not have any sort of flavouring on it all, so the chips were very bland. Now for the main event. I went in for the eat out to help out scheme yesterday and ordered my food. As I knew I would not be able to finish it all I asked for it in a takeaway box (to save the staff the hassle of plating it and then later having to pack it away for me) but I still ate inside, so as to follow the rules of the scheme. The man who took my order and gave my food seemed to have no problem with me eating from the box. However, another older man who worked there (who I’m guessing is the owner) starts shouting at me when he sees i’m eating from a box that they have provided! He jammed his finger into my box to slam it shut and starts shouting, saying if I want to eat from a takeaway box I have to leave and I’m not allowed to eat in their restaurant (at this point everyone in the restaurant is watching our interaction because he is being so loud). I calmly told him the other staff seemed to have no problem with it which is why I did it and he waved me off and completely ignored me. He could have said it politely, there was no need to shout at all. And then as if that wasn’t bad enough, he comes back to me and starts to point to all the other customers and compare me to them and say ‘see look they’re all eating from plates why aren’t you’. When the other staff tried to talk to him and tell him they gave me the box and asked what the issue was he started telling them off as well and saying it’s unacceptable. The man was so rude and it was very embarrassing, a few of the customers even looked over with sympathetic looks because they could see he completely overreacted. Also, this is unrelated to my situation but when I have come here previously, one of the members of staff who was taking my order actually complained to me about the way he treats his staff. This was such a horrible experience and I’m definitely not coming back here. Terrible food and terrible manners.

The adults had rather nice fish and chips — well done Salt & Vinegar. But your fish cake for children was awful — poor compared to Tesco’s frozen cheapies... And also your ice cream was lousy — driving down the road to Aldi for ice cream would provide a substantial improvement.

A brilliant evening spent here. Not your average chippy - a much cooler vibe and lots of choice on the menu. A large group of us stayed to eat In the restaurant - the table service was friendly and attentive. For starters we had a mix of grilled prawns, calamari, halloumi (fried and grilled) and tempura style broccoli (surprisingly amazing!). Followed by grilled seam bream, new potatoes and salad for me (I can recommend) as well as salmon and the more traditional fish and chips which everyone said were very good as well. All washed down with champagne (something else we didn’t expect to see on the menu!). We will be returning!

This is a very nice, clean place that does solid fish and chips. Inside is welcoming, calm and good atmosphere to eat along with whole family. The prices are also reasonable and fair for the quality that is served. Recommended. The name is top notch!

Thank you to the staff and management....Fish and Chips were as good as Harvey Nichols and the Steak was char grilled and really succulent ... I had to travel from another area on recommendation but wasn’t disappointed and it doesn’t get any better than good, fresh fish and crispy chips which tasted more like Gastro Pub quality. if you see an old Red Ferrari outside it’s me picking up another order !!

Really smart takeaway - food was superbly packaged. Very good price - quick service. Scampi was truly stupendous - 12 pieces in all. Chips were good - not my style - but still enjoyable. 5 stars because the Scampi really was that brilliant.
