Does anyone else notice that this cafe is swamped with flies? No? Just me then. Food is ok but very expensive

We’ve been here for brunch twice now and it’s nice but very slow. Not slow because it’s freshly cooked, just slow in every sense of the word... an hour must be allowed for food and that’s on a quiet day when most are just having a hot drink.

I did not feel welcome here. When you ask a customer to move table because he is on his own, you should be more friendly about it.

My favourite Bookham cafe. Wonderful and reasonably priced food and drink, but it's the service that makes it all PERFECT. THANK YOU so much for the way you welcome, serve and encourage. It is so wonderful to be able to walk up to the cafe with young people from our youth club, (run for those with disabilities), and be so well cared for, and have our needs so well met. Will be coming again and again. Hot and cold drinks, snacks, food, indoor and outdoor seating.

I stopped for breakfast having never been here before. The decor is really good, and everything suggests quality when you enter straight into the seated area in front of the counter. Of course, that doesn't mean the food is always good, but here everything was in keeping with the initial impressions. I had bacon and scrambled egg with wholemal toast, and a latte to drink. The coffee was absolutely excellent, smooth but with a hint of bitterness to avoid being bland, with a light foam on top that had a great texture. When the food arrived, it was a delight. The back bacon was very good, and of a superior quality to a lot of bacon in other cafes, the scrambled eggs were light and fluffy and cooked to perfection, and for me the eggs are the element of the breakfast so often done poorly. It comes with lovely butter cut by hand, and not in cheap packets. The toast was regular run of the mill bread, and the only element slightly disappointing, and could be improved easily. This was all served attentively. An excellent addition to Bookham high street, and very good value. I will be returning.

Pleasant enough place but food lacked imagination. Not a great variation on the menu.

A Most Precarious Repast at The Old House at Home There are few things in life as sacred as a well-poured drink and a sturdy table upon which to set it. Imagine my horror, then, upon entering The Old House at Home, only to find myself dining not in stately comfort but in a state of perpetual imbalance. One reserves a table with the reasonable expectation that it will, at the very least, stand firm beneath one’s elbows. Alas, what I was met with was a rickety, quivering contraption, trembling at the mere suggestion of movement. My fellow diners and I found ourselves locked in a silent contest of steadiness, each lifting a fork with the precision of a bomb disposal expert, lest we send our glasses skidding into oblivion. To make matters worse, this architectural affliction was not limited to my table alone; no, the neighbouring furniture appeared to share in this affliction, as if the entire room were engaged in some grand, lumbering waltz. A wonky table is not mere inconvenience—it is an insult to the art of dining, a sign of neglect so egregious that one wonders whether management has mistaken rustic charm for outright disrepair. One does not expect to endure a siege upon one’s senses simply to enjoy a meal. A man should be free to place his drink upon a table without fear that it may betray him. Until this most elementary of expectations is met, The Old House at Home shall remain, at best, a folly; at worst, a farce.

The People the Grange support will serve you at your table gaining experience of dealing with customers and handling money. This is an excellent and weel worth suppoting. The tea is served in the Victoriam conservatory. The cost is £6.50 a head for a scone, jam and cream with unlimited tea of coffee. Most enjoyable. The only minor downside is the start time of 2 o'close which for us is far too early 3 o;clock for tea would suit us much better and this is the only point thatwill stop us returning
