KimJi Korean Restaurant in Preston

The food was great but the wait time for the food was just extremely long and not great if you’re really hungry and trying to find something to eat. When we went there was only 1 server ( She was lovely) in the whole restaurant she took orders and served like 4-5 tables we feel as though the service could be better with an extra member of staff taking orders as well but we still were patient and waited for our lovely food. The restaurant gets very warm and fill with smoke when hot plates are used and no windows was open which was a little bit uncomfortable for us BUT for the food we will be coming back.

I think the staff need some training. You walk in and there is no one to greet you I have stood there for 5 mins with no staff in sight unsure whether to wait to be shown a table or to just sit down. There aren’t any menus on the tables too so you have to also wait for them to be brought over. We weren’t alerted the food would burn if not quickly mixed around due to it being on sizzling stone plates so the bottom of our food burnt. Good food. It’s very hot in there windows should be opened especially with the smoke from the sizzling meals.

This was my second vist and quite simply, I consider it to be amongst the best food I've ever had. It was a busy evening & yes, similar to other reviews, the mains did take a while to arrive, but unless you're in a rush, worth the wait. I will definitely be returning - absolutely love the place.

Have returned a few times for the bottomless on a Sunday. Food is always delicious and the staff are lovely ☺️

The restaurant is in a quaint location, out of the way from the hustle and bustle. The staff were very polite. However the service was extremely slow and the food (although satisfactory) was not up to such a standard that would justify the 1hr wait for a meal. (Drinks took 35 min). I believe an overall lack of attentivness for the small size of restaurant soured our experience sadly.

The Korean/KimJi fried chicken is fantastic, I wish the bimbimbap had more Kimchi

Fantastic Food as always , attentive friendly staff and non stop service for the Sunday all you can eat menu. Only slight negative was the location of our table next to the front door when people came in and out leaving it open colld and draughty but this didn't spoil our experience. Highly recommended we will be back.

The food is amazing and the staff are friendly. Plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians as well. Slightly disappointed as I asked on the phone before our meal if the veganuary menu was still available, which they said they kept on, but on the night it was not available. Still had great veggie bulgogi and starters! Can't fault the food at all! Just wish they'd keep some of the vegan options on like the stir fry or crispy rice balls

came on a trip with friends and we all enjoyed the food immensely. service was probably the best i’ve ever had, the guy serving us was so polite and friendly and very accommodating especially considering we arrived two minutes after they opened. homemade kimchi made me shed a tear it was so good and the bibimbap was unbelievable. food was so good im writing this review in the car going home. will definitely revisit if im ever in preston again

Although I’ve been to Kimji before many times, I never had written a review, but I thought that should change. As usual the food here was excellent. Fresh, tasty and great portion sizes. My partner opted for the bulgogi which was great, and I opted for the sizzling BBq, again excellent. Starters were great, and the Reaper Kimchi was excruciatingly hot, so don’t order that if you can’t handle spice! Service was a tad slow but we went on a Saturday around 1PM, so it was busy. Highly recommend!

Amazing food!!! The service was quick and the atmosphere was lovely!! One of my favourite go to spots in Preston. I ordered veg stirfry with udon noodlese and kimchi pancake. I will continue to come back here for all my cravings.

Very slow service with the all you can eat. Had atleast 45minutes of waiting for the food to actually come out. The main course food was a bit boring and mediocre. The plate comes out really hot aswell and could potentially get burns very easily with the beef bulgogi Also DONT ORDER THE MOCCHI You spend 3 pounds to legit get 1 mocchi ball

Absolutely amazing in every way

So I had to edit this as we came again to visit last Sunday for all you can eat, unfortunately this time the wait between a server actually remembering we were there and taking our order, then the food coming out was ridiculously slow to the point my husband had time to nip to the local sainsbury's round the corner, buy a meal deal and eat it before the server had even bothered to check on us. Considering the menu was "All you can eat" my husband came out hungrier than when he went in. Despite the the wait time and the fact the restaurant could do with a makeover, the little food we had was delicious, I definitely recommend the Vegetable Bibambap, with the Korean pancake for pudding. I also want to say that the young server who seated us was lovely and very apologetic when we said we were unhappy with service. Would I come back again? Yes because the food is tasty, just not with my husband. *Original review* The food was delicious, the only downsides are that in the ladies bathroom the tap needs to be fixed and a couple of glasses were chipped on the rim.

Had a lovely evening tasting many different starters and a main meal from the Sunday buffet menu. Food delicious, made more enjoyable by the friendly service from Caden. Top picks were KFC chicken, and the bibimbab. No hesitation in recommending.

The food I had was absolutely wonderful and incredibly tasty. The servers were really nice. The atmosphere is relaxing and peaceful. I would highly recommend trying this restaurant out as it is one of my favourites already

Very good restaurant. Chicken bulgogi very sizzling and very wow. I come with husband and he hesitant at first but he like so much that we come again. Manager his name Labib, very nice and polite he Muslim so he help me with Halal option very good 😊

Visited for the veganuary specials and we ordered the whole list of specials. Everything was delicious, their rice machine had an issue so they gave us noodles instead and couldn't fault anything. Great service and reasonably priced.

My sister recommended Kimji to me so gave it a go and it surprised me. The food was amazing especially the special vegan menu, very fresh and tasty. Their fried chicken was crispy and absolutely loved the spicy sauce. Fair price and will definitely come again

Truly disappointed- we were so excited to try Kimji, after hearing about it, but we left feeling really down-hearted. It took 1 hour 20 for our food to arrive, servers forgot about food, charged us for extra, and it was just average food. It was my mum’s birthday, and sadly we were so upset afterwards. I hope this was just a one off.

Went for a meal that was booked ahead. Became a comedy of errors. Forgot drinks that we ordered. Had to request water for the table multiple times. When sides came out, one was missing. Had to chase down servers to ask for it and it had been completely missed. Main courses arrived 80+ minutes after ordering. And we had to ask for it. During this time multiple groups arrived after us, ate and paid. One main was missing. Then arrived wrong and had to be re done. Once we got the bill we were charged for things we didn’t order. Not a great experience, exasperating and frustrating when we came for lunch.

The food was delicious and service was excellent, really friendly staff. On top it is very reasonable price. Highly recommended!

We’ve been here a few times and never had a problem, but this visit was very disappointing. Only 2 servers on shift and they appeared to be rushed off their feet, I felt sorry for them. They were polite and took our orders around 2:15pm. Come 3:30 we had our starters (they forgot one of our starters, however, and 2 drinks). No sign of mains (other people who came after us got their food, paid and left!) until I enquired about them and suddenly they arrived. We asked for no egg on a vegan bibimbap and it came with an egg and had to be sent back. Lettuce for the bulgogi was also forgotten. Food was good, as usual. Tasty and hot. However, portions seemed a little smaller and presentation was rushed. Get more staff on! And train your staff. They are always polite but clearly inexperienced in waiting tables. I’m afraid we won’t be going back. Such a poor visit with massive delays to getting starters, mains and drinks. My parent’s especially weren’t impressed even though they have both enjoyed visits before. Such a shame.

Although the price and service are ok (especially for lunch boxes), the bento box looks really sad.... I literally got this one piece of egg roll and an entire empty compartment in the bento box. The visual experience was funny, and the taste undescribable 😂

Glad we booked as restaurant was full. ( 29.12.23) Drinks and food order taken and starters arrived relatively quickly and were delicious! The rest of the meal went a little slower, in our view could have done with at least another 2 servers as the only 2 there were so busy and it was difficult to catch their eye. Our mains were tasty. The desserts would benefit from some thing a bit sharp as they were essentially pancakes / fritters with ice cream, made well but a bit bland for our taste. The environment was quite noisy due to there being no soft furnishings at all, perhaps some drapes and curtains would help. Lacks tablecloths, more like a cafe in style. We will definitely go back and try other things. A great find in Preston Centre.

I like this restaurant, there is choices from vegtables if you don't want to eat meat. And their citrus honey tea is a must to try.

Delightful lunch menu, great value for money

[All you can eat Sunday menu] We didn’t book a table, Sunday afternoon was very busy in the restaurant. The service was very very slow. Some staff seem clueless and almost too busy to manage the whole restaurant. A good selection of food on the all you can eat menu, but there were no standardisation on the quality of the food. One of the pancakes came up all burnt. Portion was also different every time when it arrived. Nevertheless, the fried chicken and beef bibimbap were absolutely gorgeous! The cleanliness of the restaurant could do with some improvement. Some of the dishes are not the cleanest. The floor is very sticky and requires a good clean. Due to the reason that they serve hot stone dishes, the restaurant can be very stuffy and stinky with cooking smokes. I would think the restaurant will need better extraction fans. Overall an ok experience, would come again!

Great little place, with AMAZING food. We picked it randomly looking for something different on Friday night. Arrived to Kimji and managed to get a table on walk in. It’s a small restaurant, but it’s really cozy and has got a nice, warm climate. The food menu has got good variety and we got pork dumplings for starter- WOW! Crispy, soft and juicy with hot broth inside. For main we both ordered bibimbap, which frankly was a new experience for me. One with chicken and one with beef and both tasted soooooooo goooood. I loved the fact it was served in hot bowls, where you actually had to cook your egg yolk and the rice was getting crispy, which it totally blew my mind. Very surprised that such a unique place in centre of Preston and we didn’t know about it. A very small fact was that service was little bit slow? but it was only one waitress, which had a few tables and we didn’t mind as we were not in a rush. So yeah, definitely recommend for relaxed, evening meal, the quality of food will speak for itself.

I expect Korean food to have more taste and be more spicy, couldn’t see any Koreans in the kitchen so makes sense. The teokkboki was objectively awful, not spicy and the pumpkin purée made it sickly. Service was awful, staff were not attentive at all, took much longer than it needed to. Not a great experience at all, the food was pricey and was still left hungry - been to Korean restaurants run by actual Koreans with better service and tastier food for a much better price. Moreover, no chopsticks given? I’d expect some respect to the culture you profit off.

Hands down the best Korean restaurant in NW… and probably the best place to eat in Preston.

The first korean restaurant I tried in UK Beef bulgogi > 7.5/10 I like it, but it’s too small Beef Bibimbap > 8.5/10 I like the crispy texture of the rice Kimchi soup > 6.5/10 Dumplings > 5.3/10 small pieces, I don’t like the sauce, as I remember, it’s just soy sauce or sth similar. The reaper kimchi is very spicy, even I’m thai. I cannot eat it all, not because of the spiciness, but my stomach is not good when I eat more and more. Price Beef bulgogi - £11.80 Beef bibimbap - £11.85 Kimchi stew (pork) - £13.5 (it includes rice) Crispy dumplings (kimchi,pork,vegetables) - £5.7 the reaper kimchi - £3.3 Returning? Lovely staff they are a real asset to this place. Great vegan and veggie choices and really tasty food. Would have been five stars but the decor needs attention wallpaper coming off and cobwebs in the corners. I imagine it’s very costly to be where they are so hopefully they will do a revamp when profits allow because this could be a really special place

Ordered here quite a lot but I was served the smallest amount ever .a joke for the price .Lost a customer after the response from kimji Korean.To send that amount of food out when iv spent nearly 40 pound in 1 go is a disgrace .

Brilliant food. Amazing service. Staff are 5 stars. Came here for the first time and would definitely recommend. There was a young lad who seemed to be in charge of seating people. He was amazing. My partner has booked the table 20 mins before we arrived and his system hadn't updated so he wasn't aware of the booking but he got us a table downstairs. very quickly and efficiently. Such a lovely young man. Hes a credit to this company. Our waiter was another young lad with blonde hair and he was very helpful and quick. Nice and friendly. Atmosphere was brilliant aswell.

Has a 2/5 hygiene rating for a reason. Food may taste nice but are the dishes clean? Don't think so. Young waiters (definitely under 18) left clueless - no sign of a management and seem quite depressed the entire time we were there. Needs to have standards of staff’s well being and hygiene checked on.

Went to restaurant yesterday, after having booked a table online, just to get at the restaurant and be informed they simply don't check online bookings and didn't have us booked. We were turned down, as they were fully booked. Please don't keep an online service if you're not using it, it's disrespectful to your clients.

we just walked in and asked the hostess if there was any availability, she was really nice and said she will check as they were busy, she was able to accommodate us, the food was super tasty, hot and freshly made, we had superb meals.

I absolutely love going to Kimji, they have great food and great service, it's always a good time! I often go with my friends who all love it and I have also gone with my mother who loves the bibimbap! The Kimji Fried Chicken is probably the best chicken I have ever tasted lol, highly recommend, will be visiting again soon!

Little rustic place ..greeted by the most polite of staff.. shown to our table They do not crowd or rush you and half way through meal the staff come and see all is OK..

Spent over 2 and a half hours here, mostly say waiting and starving. Abysmal service. Ordered drinks which never arrived but then they tried to charge us for them. Food was alright but not worth the wait or price. Half the food arrived and the meals were finished by the time everyone else's food came. Rubbish way to celebrate a birthday.

I went to the restaurant last Saturday. As a Korean I felt it could be better…. I had bulgogi and the meat was too thick and chewy…Originally we use thin beef to make it softer.. and Kimchi.. wasn’t great.. It would be better with cabbage Kimchi.. Radish Kimchi wasn’t really good.. I wanted to have BiBimbab .. but I didn’t order.. because I wasn’t sure the the ingredients on the photo. Lastly, the staff was very friendly and kind.. but when one of staff was asked about Soju.. she explained it was made with rice.. which is not.. Soju is distilled from fermented grains, think starchy crops like rice, potato and the like. Hope everything get better..

The lunch set is a good deal with appetiser and main dish foe £8.95. The bibimbap is a highly recommended. Leave it for 3 mins and you can have crispy rice at the bottom of the stone bowl. Staff are nice but busy on Sunday.

If you're in town, try this Korean restaurant, I think it's as authentic cuisine as it gets in the UK:)

Excellent value set lunch menu, and I hope to return for the Sunday buffet special. The first time eating Korean food for the 3 of us, and we were very pleased with all the tasty, well-presented dishes. Staff very friendly, and patiently explain the menu. Portions of some dishes may be a touch small, and seating seems to be upstairs only. Recommended. 5⭐

Let’s start with the positives.. Lovely waitress, fab nibbles(just love the corn chips!) delicious udon noodles & granddaughter loved her beef bulgogl Not so great: my KFC honey & soy chicken very overcooked & really tough..should be melt in the mouth! But the worst thing..by far..£1.25 for extra lettuce leaves for the bulgogl…really???!! So it was overall an okay experience but probably won’t return as not good value for money..

Kimji Korean Restaurant provides a variety of choices of fusion Korean cuisine. They provide a good environment to chill out and relax there. Portions of food are just right. That will be great if they can provide stainless steel spoons which are commonly used in Korea.

Nice place, but the service, although very friendly was a little slow, we were kept waiting too long to get a drink, but once the food started coming everything was fine.

Beautiful food, amazing service, very quick and efficient. Went tonight and booked a table 30 mins before coming there was a mix up with our reservation but the young waiter with brown hair (i think he was in charge) was looking after us sorted us a table very quickly and efficiently, got us a table downstairs which was perfect for a date night as upstairs was very busy and full of family's, the young waiter with brown hair and the waiter with blonde hair were very friendly, quick and efficient. These two young gentlemen are definitely a credit to this company.

Absysmal food. The food was burnt, greasy, overcooked and inedible. Complete waste of money and the entire order went in the bin. If I had been in the restaurant I would have refused to pay.

Absolutely amazing restaurant, as soon as you walk in the atmosphere is very welcoming and you are greeted by a friendly waitress. I recently read a Preston blog stating that KimJi’s fried chicken is rated the best in Preston taking the number one spot so I had to see what the fuss was about, and I finally understood. The Chicken Bulgogi came out very sizzling and looked amazing and the smell it had was amazing. The aroma of the restaurant was beautiful and I will definitely be returning. I was also recommended to return on a Sunday where they offer an ALL YOU CAN EAT?!? I can’t wait to devour the Fried Chicken from their buffet menu 🤤

What an absolutely woeful experience. Hate to echo the sentiments from previous reviews but they still hold true. Four of us visited today for the “all you can eat” Sunday offer, tl;dr the food is good but the service was poor and extremely slow. Every order came with something wrong or missing, used plates were left on the table until we asked for them to be removed, the food itself came incredible slowly (three orders over two hours), we had to ask for more drinks, even after highlighting the issues we were having, nothing improved. Finally we were charged for things on the menu that were either mistakes the staff made or items that were included as part of the set menu. Even after the restaurant quietened down (it was relatively busy when we arrived) the service we got from the wait staff didn’t improve and we saw them leaning around a number of times. (Old adage from my McD’s/Subway days, if there’s time to lean, there’s time to clean). Also had excuses of some of the staff being new, but didn’t witness anyone trying to train up the newbies. Felt a bit sorry for the new American/Canadian girl (picked up an accent but not sure where from) who seemed to know what she was doing but was unfortunately on her break for most of our visit. After we’d raised our issues management offered us a free round of drinks, but once we replied that none of our party drinks we weren’t offered any other recompense (e.g. slight reduction on the bill, money off next time). The food itself was really good - the fried chicken remains a stand out - but with the service we received I honestly cannot advocate visiting and will not be going back again.

Everything was too salty, and the portion size was way too small. There was bits of plastic inside the rice, couldn't get the staffs attention at all, and they seems absolutely clueless when we told them there is foreign objects in the food.

So many things went wrong with my visit; 1) The one cocktail that was on their specials menu was out of stock 2) Whilst our starters came swiftly, our main courses took more than half an hour to come 3) The rice on was sticky mass, with absolutely no flavour to it 4) My beef bulgogi was fatty and gristly, I had three mouthfuls of fatty mass and gave up 5) No sign of any manager, and all the servers looked under 18 6) The inexperience of the servers showed. Tables around ours were left with plates on them, uncleared with people waiting for their mains. Once people had left, the tables were left dirty and still uncleared 7) We had our starter plates not cleared until after our main courses had been delivered to our table 8) We wanted to leave after waiting twenty minutes for our mains, but our server was insistant that ours would only be another couple of minutes, that the chef was making them now. Ten minutes after that, we were still waiting and wanting to leave, five minutes after that our mains arrived 9) For a ten table restaurant with three wait staff, it shouldn't have been this poorly run 10) In general, a poor experience that I wouldn't recommend to anyone The ONLY saving grace were the pork dumplings, which were delicious. Staff need to be trained better and the manager's presence should be felt and seen

Overall, I found the experience to be average and satisfactory. The bibimbap tasted fine and met my expectations, but it didn't particularly stand out or offer any unique flavors. It was a decent choice if you're looking for a straightforward and familiar Korean dish.

The KFC chicken was superb, the sauce matched with the crispyness was to die for! We Had the all you can eat, a table of 3. The service could be abit better; however quiet understaffed I believe and some may be untrained. All In all really good.

There is some distance from the authentic Korean dish, but the food's taste itself is enjoyable. It was a little bit sad to see the interior was more of a Japanese and Chinese mixed lol

Dropped in as we were having a few beers across the road. TA reviews showed it was ok. As it happened it was Sunday all you can eat. Having read the reviews I can understand why some people are miffed that it’s not load your plate up style. Maybe they should read the reviews then. We found it laid back service speed but that suited us. When it came the food was fine and tasty. The Terra beer was good and having been in with a mate who had just returned from South Korea it was authentic. At £17.95 for the all you can eat I thought it was decent VFM and I would return and recommend.

Headed here for Sunday Buffet which was priced at £ 17.95 per person. You can choose 2 items at a time from the starters and can repeat or ask for many items only once you finish the first one. Later can order from the mains aswell. They serve small portions so one can taste many options. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food was absolutely amazing and quick service. Only thing is make sure you book your slots in advance or else you might end up waiting or Denial
