The staff are lovely however…. the food is mediocre at best. Such a shame as it’s a lovely village and the hotel is in a gorgeous location overlooking the river with spectacular mountain views. I had the vegetarian options on the Christmas menu. Roasted cauliflower and chickpea salad was the only vegetarian choice. It was somewhat unusual for a Christmas menu starter and not too good. It also lacked the advertised sourdough. The only vegetarian main course of soy glazed tofu with stir fried vegetables was very salty and surprisingly came with no rice or noodles although all other menu options on the table came with a starchy carbohydrate side. The advertised lime and ginger cheesecake with mango coulis for pudding was a vanilla cheesecake with fruit and ice cream. The unexpected raspberry was delicious. The decaf coffee was perfect but the mini mince pie was chilled and while it was lacking in mincemeat it was plentiful in pastry. With lovely staff and such a spectacular location, all this restaurant needs is good food to give it a five star review.

Popped in for lunch on a dreary Friday. Our day was brightened by pleasant professional attentive staff and lovely food to boot. A lovely experience with good pricing and great value for money. I really enjoyed my burger and then cranachan washed down with earl grey tea and the wife enjoyed her toastie also followed by tea and cranachan - altogether a pleasant experience that really couldn’t be faulted. Thanks to all staff - would recommend and we’ll definitely be back

Had an excellent meal this evening in the bar which was very welcoming for us and our two dogs. We all had the scallops & black pudding for starter following by haddock & chips, steak & ale pie and venison steak. All dishes were perfect. For once you could taste the ale in the pie and the venison melted in your mouth. Service throughout was fantastic with staff being attentive to our needs. As very few other places are open Mon-Wed in Killin booking is necessary as others were turned away. This is really easy to do with their online booking system. Highly recommended.

The Killin Hotel enjoys a scenic setting, at the edge of the village, and the bright, airy conservatory in which we were seated gives an uninterrupted view across a small river to the pretty countryside beyond. The atmosphere was convivial and relaxed and the service efficient and friendly. The impressive menu covered sandwiches, pub standards, traditional Scottish meals, a few more upmarket dishes and even a couple of South Asian specialities. All of our meals were tasty and fresh. Portions were generally of a good size. Prices were very competitive in comparison to other local eateries. A very enjoyable dinner. Just one very small negative. I had fish and chips. The chips were very good and quite large but, even so, I consider 9 1/2 chips to be, at best, half the number I would consider a full portion. Like I say - a tiny quibble amongst an otherwise great experience.

We had such a great meal here. The pictures in the profile appear to be from the previous restaurateurs. Our host and staff were made home made curries. The food was lovely with outstanding flavours and large serves. Service was great. The real highlight was the curry. It was awesome! Scenery out the window looking over the river. Highly highly recommended.

Wide selection but only go if you like spicy food. The trout came with a sauce which the staff were pleased to say contained chilli and garlic. I asked for an alternative of leek and mushroom confit which disappointingly came full of garlic. Spoilt the meal. Other people in the restaurant left food which was too spicy. The staff seemed most surprised if someone didn't like spicy garlic food.

During our stay at the Dall Lodge guest house we had dinner on the Friday and Saturday in the Killin hotel which was under new ownership since our last visit. To say the service and menu choice was exceptional is an understatement. The mix of traditional fare like venison and lamb along with the option of a variety of curries offers something for every palette. We look forward to our next visit and shall most definitely be back to sample more of their wares!

My sister, BIL, and I came here one night for dinner, thinking it would be your standard hotel/pub food selection. Walking to our table, we eyed delicious-looking fish and chips, steak pies, etc. My BIL and I ordered the haggis neeps and tatties. My sister was debating between two items and asked our server for his opinion (I can't remember his name but he was a delight) and his face lit up and said "Oh definitely get the pork ribs, they're my favorite." I had my reservations, having had my fair share of bbq growing up in the US and not really thinking bbq to be a Scottish specialty, but she ordered it and omg, dear reader, these were the best bbq pork ribs ever! Fall off the bone tender, tangy and sticky bbq sauce... y'all are missing out if you don't order them. Whoever is in charge of making them deserves a raise. The other do-not-miss-out menu item is the onion rings! My stars, they are gianormus, fried to crunchy, salty perfection, made with real, whole rings of onion (not processed chopped tiny bits) and the perfect amount of tasty batter. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. This is not to say the haggis neeps & tatties that my BIL I had was not good - it was delicious and the whisky sauce that came with it was devine. We all were just blown away by those ribs. The staff were all friendly and attentive. Don't miss out on this place and don't miss out on those pork ribs!

We were only spending one night here in passing. The hotel was fine - everything worked and the staff were friendly and helpful. The dinner was good and of the sort you would expect (fish and chips, pie etc) and the portion sizes possibly designed for hikers. After the starter we could barely finish the mains and skipped dessert. Next time we are here we will have only one of those two courses. There were only two people managing the front desk and the restaurant when we were there - they seemed somewhat stretched but were doing their best. Breakfast was also good - the croissants actually amazing. Whoever provides them should start a bakery.

Booked here for Friday dinner. On arrival we were met by a pretty unenthusiastic member of staff who showed us to our table. We were seated in the conservatory area which, although having a lovely view of the river, was more reminiscent of a nursing home, totally lacking in atmosphere. Starters were pretty average and we ordered Streak & Ale pie and Venison Stew as mains. The steak pie was pretty tasteless, with a watery gravy and my partners stew was again pretty tasteless and watery to the point that she had to ask for a spoon to eat it. The sticky toffee pudding dessert wasn’t as good as a shop bought one from Morrisons. There’s a general lack of enthusiasm from staff and I must say that those working in the restaurant were extremely scruffy and appeared to have no idea how to work an iron. I was pretty disappointed with this place and I really wouldn’t recommend it. I certainly won’t be returning.

Over the Easter weekend 37 of us came for dinner and a Ceilidh and had a fine time in a stunning location. Our dining room was splendid and the talented chef did us proud with a three course dinner that was tasty and well presented. The Chicken Balmoral deserves a special mention! And afterwards the band of Duncan and Jock provided great entertainment, guiding us through dances - with welcome help from friendly locals. All in all a super evening. Thanks very much to Prachi and the team in this lovely old hotel.

The hotel has brought in a system for ordering that involved going online and choosing the items you wish.Whilst this works well for many, and obviously is designed to limit contact during the COVID pandemic, we did not have the appropriate technology, i.e. a smart phone, IPad, etc. When we explained this, the staff were fine about it and took our order manually. The absolute best thing about the Killin Hotel is being able to eat outside at the river bank on a sunny day. We managed such a feat.We had booked for the conservatory, but it was very stuffy and airless and as our friends were delayed we managed to get an outdoor table outside. Nachos with chilli were excellent as was the spaghetti. There is a new ordering system because of covid and it wasn’t explained until I tried to order at the bar. Staff were lovely , but seemed very overworked so it was hard to get their attention. Also if you are eating Monday - Wednesday you need a separate code to get the August meal discount- our friends were told to order online, but not that they needed a discount code, so didn’t get the reduction and are now hoping to get the refund credited within a few days.

Great table, setting (watch all the season go by in an afternoon) and the staff were great - especially our waitress who was fantastic, so nice, friendly, helpful and just made the day even better. The food was truly amazing, the fish was huge, fresh, batter crispy and melts in the mouth, chips were like the best long rosters we have ever had. The steak pie was also one of the best I have had and the huge disc of puff pastry was just the best. Also, the Sticky Toffee Pudding was great and the sauce was so smooth and just bursting with flavour. Will definitely be back when we stay up in Loch Tay. Stayed for a couple of days & overall was disappointed with the experience. First room we were given was cold in both temperature & feel. We asked for a change, it was accommodated quickly but we had to pay extra. Generally the place needs a lot of money spent on it. Decor is tired and is a mish mash of styles, none of which match. Our room for example has grey tartan curtains, a brown carpet, white bedding (which didn’t fit the bed properly) and cream chairs. The bathroom had been given a cheap facelift but the shower cubicle was tiny & the heated towel rail didn’t work.We are in the restaurant, the food was ok but nothing special. On the plus side, all of the staff we encountered were very nice - with the exception of grumpy Gary in the bar/restaurant, he was unwelcoming, did not make eye contact with anyone and his customer service left a lot to be desired.Such a shame as the setting is lovely and it could be so much better.

Lamb curry with Poppadom and chutney and chicken stuffed with haggis, excellent sticky toffee got thumbs up from my expert while my taste in cheese was satisfied with the large selection, oatcakes and chutney washed down with a little port. Superb. Dog friendly but spoiled by some yappy chappy that the owner failed to control.

Stopped by at driving through and since we were hungry we wanted to eat something. It seemed strange you have to order and pay at the bar for sitting in the winter garden, even though she showed us the table and brought us almost there. At least for the food she served it. The soup was nice and there was nothing to complain about, but the service a little strange.

Terrible meal & service, dined at 4pm before evening menu, gammon steak was unedible but management deducted little from my sisters meal, service was slow, asked for coffee for my brother, who has disabilities, who needs coffee with meal, were told as short of staff we would need to wait, we waited well after meal & cancelled as we were ready to leave, wiuld recommend anywhere but Killin Hotel we were staying at Loch Tay Lodges, decided to stay at their Bistro for rest of our stay, meals, service were 5 star,

We did not have a dog with us like most of the other patrons but it eas so much fun to see all these well trained dogs sitting with their owners while they were having a drink or eating dinner.

Had a very nice steak here, its dog friendly in the bar and conservatory area which is essential for us as who wants to leave your dog at home when you are on holiday. Nice friendly atmosphere and pretty views of the river.

The Hotel is located at the east end of the village, on the RHS when heading north-easterly. The Hotel has a majestic setting, with gardens leading down to the river, and a large group of ducks who are obviously well accustomed to humans. The Restaurant could almost be described as " Grand ", with great views of the river.. Now with regard to the food - Great wholesome Scottish dishes, well presented, with more than ample portions. Indeed, by the time we have finished our starters and all opted for the steak pie, none of us had any room for a sweet, or even coffee !

Plezierige plek om te slapen en te eten. Langs het water, de bootjes langs de kant. Lekker gegeten en heel vriendelijke bediening. Het zonnetje maakte het compleet.

Set in the beautiful, picturesque Killin, we visit the restaurant each year and the staff are very friendly and welcoming and always very accommodating. The food is beautiful with quite generous portion sizes at reasonable prices.

We booked a table for dinner as recommended as the hotel can get busy. The location is great by the river and you can dine in the sun terrace part of the restaurant which makes it bright and airy. The waiter service was quick and efficient. The food was hearty and delicious, a bit on the pricey side. The steak was cooked to order and the toffee pudding dessert was a treat. No qualms. Would come again.

Having waited 40 minutes for the kitchen to do the whole menu as opposed to just bar food, we were so disappointed that it was mass produced, packet/frozen dishes from a wholesaler. The service however was good.

Good pub feel but also a great restaurant. Surprised to find Portuguese staff in the Highlands! If the weather is right, then sit outside near the river.

The restaurant was a light airy conservatory with open views of the hills and river Lochay. There was a fair choice and all food was cooked well and of a good quality.

The atmosphere by the river is absolutely stunning, and it’s perfect for afternoon drinks in the sun (weather permitting). The restaurant is nice, great conservatory sunroom, although the decor is a little dated. The food was variable; a few dishes were fantastic including the cauliflower roulette, lamb shank, and curries. Draft beers were also great. However other dishes were nothing special - the nachos were clearly just Doritos with cheap sauce drizzled rather than freshly made guac; the burger was a little boring; and the balmoral chicken was far too heavy (cream sauce, too much haggis stuffing, and bacon wrapped fillet - are they trying to make us sick?!). Plus, the desserts were way overpriced - clearly made as cheap as possible with (presumedly) supermarket shortbread, Tesco frozen berries, and storebought toffee pudding. My advice? Go for drinks here, and go down the street for dinner

There are a couple of options for dinner in the village of Killin, and the restaurant at the Killin Hotel is at the top. The menu is limited, but varied, and the preparation––and service––is good.

After remortgaging the house we decided to get some lunch at the Snack Stop. We had lots of money in the bank and decided to use as much as possible. Suffice to say we weren’t let down. Upshot is if you want a ridiculously expensive lunch on paper plates and cardboard cutlery then this is the place for you. £6.50 for a box of 6 sad looking nuggets , £9.99 for a baked potato with 2 fillings. Keep driving past so your kids will get some Christmas presents this year.

Gorgeous setting, sadly very mediocre food. Service lovely, great friendly waiters but the food is just not up to the mark. Expensive, small portions, they reckon they have hotel restaurant of the year in the central belt but on our experience I wouldn’t hold much to that accolade!
