Kilimanjaro Newcastle in Newcastle upon Tyne

Came to dine today and we were unable to sample the food or the service sadly. Instead we were introgated pre entry, asked for ID, questioned about medical exmpetion cards.. I have a disability and do NOT need to prove it to anyone, nor show ID to enter! It was rude!!! We came half a mile up the road and found a lovely little cafe called kyber cafe, staff were friendly and the food was tasty, they've just gained a new loyal customer!

Good food. Extremely slow service. Placed an order with my family and 2 tables that came in after us got served their food well before us. Asked after 45 mins about the food timing and they said 2 mins. By then, another table was served and the food arrived a further 20 mins later.

Should be renamed chickenjaros. No steak and the mixed grill platter only came with chicken and chicken. Waiters kept telling us food is on its way out but kept waiting and waiting. Last time for me.

Very bad chicken is not cooked I complain they said they can’t do nothing

Thought I'd try it out since its nearby, customer service was poor, food was below average. Could of mentioned that there wasn't any lamb ribs, chops or beef burger in stock even though literally got there at opening. Would of been more understanding if they mentioned it once got in instead of having all of the drinks on the table and ready to order meal. Not big fan of nandos but rather go there in future.

The staff is awesome and very helpful and makes you feel special. We had a great time and the food is just so delicious specially the parmesan and the grill platter mighty grill. Just love it . Very children friendly.

This was my second time coming to this restaurant. We had a booking however they told us our table still had people from the previous booking. we had to wait half an hour to get to our table even though there were other empty ones. after ordering we waited... and waited and waited. For two hours we continuously asked the waitress where our food was however she was clueless and did not even think to ask the chef how much time it would take. Another table beside us had ordered more and arrived much later but they received their order first. We finally received our food and though we all got different items all the food was drenched in the same generic sauce to make all the food taste the same. We saw a lot of people in the same condition of waiting even though there were many empty tables. Please do not go to this restaurant unless you are very patient and like sauce!!

I’m going to start from the end first, on the BILL I noticed they seem to be OVERCHARGING to unsuspecting customers. The menu includes VAT however on the bill, it says excluding vat. And then they added another 20% vat on top of the inclusive vat price. The current government regulations state for food and hospitality is 5%. Please make sure you check your bills. The manager was pretending she had no idea. Receipt is on images as proof. We went out for a meal for 4, on the bill it says 5? Had high hopes for this place unfortunately the food wasn’t great and neither the service. The toilets were unclean and awful. The place was not busy at all. I was disappointed that they didn’t have some of the items on the menu one such item was ribs. The steak was over cooked, it was a huge dissatisfaction, the burgers were drenched in sauce and it didn’t taste great at all.

We had a table booked, however still managed to wait 1.5 hours and after getting our table we had to leave, as no one would take our order. Went to pizza&co instead for some burgers, got served in 10 mins and came home. Never again.

No extra staff added to cover the customer flow. Took us one hour just to place an order. Food never appeared next hour so altogether two hours wait with worst possible customer service. Can't blame staff poor staff members has to take a lot but with only one member to take to order one to cover till and one to cover tables, feel sorry for staff. For the sake of saving 50 pounds management has push the staff and customers to limit... worst food experience of our life never coming back.

Waited for 45 min with 2 hungry kids, only to be told they lost the order. Second time this has happened now. Appreciate it can be busy but come on. When tables around you who ordered after you are getting mountains of food and the single main dish we ordered still hasn't arrived it's a joke.

The food is really good but the service was terrible I was very unhappy with how long it took.

What a strange dining experience! We were asked to put our order in when we made the reservation. Yet it still took over an hour for the food to be served from when we arrived. The mocktails are extortionately expensive. Portion sizes are tiny compared to other similar restaurants like Toros or Manjaros. Beware it doesn't matter what you order, it will all be drenched in their 'special sauce' so in the end it all tastes the same. If you do go there remember to ask for the special sauce on the side or separate otherwise you can't really appreciate the taste of the steak or chicken that you ordered. Last but not least a restaurant that big only accepts cash? Something doesn't seem right. From what I gather it's not a temporary issue either. On a positive note, staff were friendly and pleasant.

the service is not good. And food is not good. Clearly rush to open this restaurant and did not train staff long enough. Need to train staff more and food needs to be checked before coming out. The service is too bad. I recommend shutting down and re train entire kitchen and have a look at meals and why customers don’t like. Manjaros is lot better. sometimes need to make sacrifice

Heard so many people say good things about this place so we decided to try it out for dinner today, I must say it was unbelievable- the staff were amazing, I think this will be my new spot from now😋😍 For anyone that hasn’t tried it already you need to!!!👀 5 stars!!

Food is good!!! But don’t work for them.told you get payed cash in hand,which I thought that meant in a pay packet.!! Then haven to take time off with a knee injury.and a major reaction to a hand.!!! Never mind eh!!! My week in hand probably won’t matter!!!

Understaffed and poor service.... sitting here for 55 mins now, waiting on the food

We thought we try this new restaurant with my family then went in to get seated and the waitress came over saying she cannot sit us down because it was only her on the floor and there wasnt enough kitchen staff too and whole restaurant wasn't even that busy so she told us she cannot serve us and apologised and I was very disappointed. So we left. I don't know when I'm going back but I would definitely phone before hand just to check if they are able to serve.

Parmo was salty and the kilimanjaro sauce was salty aswell, disappointing. The service from the staff was shocking, looked like they employed the staff from masak. Overall wont be getting my parmos from here manjaros in the toon and toros are a safer bet if u only want a parmesan.

went to the restaurant today. Everything was great from the food to the lovely smiling staff. I had a great time. The chicken I had was tender and amazing. The sauce, even better. I can totally see myself going to the restaurant again. Keep up the good work ;)

I have visited this place twice. Each time was a succulent experience. From the Waka Waka Chicken of the first visit to the Mixed Grill of the second visit, the meal was always delicious. The place is nicely decorated with cosy romantic spots. I Will be back for sure. Given that the restaurant opened not long ago, this place will become before long a reference in Newcastle. It was a even bonus to see they have a massive parking space. Keep it up.

Amazing restaurant and amazing food! We went to Kilimanjaro restaurant for the first time two days ago and we had such delicious food with a great service and so friendly staff that we could not wait another day to come back here. The waka waka chicken was my favourite! Ideal for families as well. I would definitely recommend it!!

What a delicious food we had tonight, finally we got some decent food in Newcastle.. The chicken Parmesan was amazing, great service and welcoming staff and fantastic atmosphere with cool Bob Marley tracks. Definitely coming back ...Thanks to Kilimanjaro for a great hospitality .

Nobody answers the phone been trying for 2 days, was a booking for 13 people

My friend and I thought we'd try this place as the one in Middlesbrough is really good. Very disappointed with the service! We waited 30 minutes for an order to be taken, where we were then informed the waitress could only take drinks order. So we ordered drinks which then did not appear until the next waiter came to take our food order another half an hour later. Food was good when it came but service needs working on.

Mixed feelings. This place has potential however it needs drastic work. Customer service was very SLOW, had to wait 45 minutes for food after pestering the waiter. One of the tables of 15 people left as they waited for an hour. You can tell they were frustrated however nothing came out of it. When the food eventually came, everyone was then served only to wait another 20 mins as they forgot one of the dishes. Parmesan was dry, cold and tasteless. The chicken was very rubbery and the sauce that came with the steak was really salty. Only thing that was nice was the chips on the table. Prices were much more higher than the likes of Manjaros where the same food and service is 100% better. Staff need training especially those making food. Has potential but over all a 3/10.

A dining experience which left us very disappointed with the service and food. At first hand, the service was very friendly and cheerful and took our orders in a very helpful manner. However, once ordered the food took a total of an hour and 20 minutes to arrive. And once it had finally reached the table, we were still waiting on another chicken parmesan which was forgotten about. We tried very hard to get the waiters attention but as the restaurant started reaching busier hours, the staff seemed overwhelmed in dealing with customers. After grabbing the waiter, another 20 minute wait for this forgotten chicken parmesan which looked rushed as peppers and jalapeños were thrown on top once it had reached its destination. The food and restaurant overall underdelivered and the music was super loud for no reason. The side order of chips was the best part of the meal. Would not recommend.

Where do I begin? I went with a group of 6 on a Monday night about 7.30. When we came in it was all okay with the waiter being pleasant and approaching us for drinks. When the time came to order we had 1 steak, 1 wake waka chicken, pasta and 3 parmesan. After about an hour of waiting, we asked a waitress how long it was going to take, and then the food arrived shortly after that. However, one person on our table who ordered a parmo was stuck waiting a whole 20 mins after the rest got the food. It was apparent that when her parmo arrived, which was supposed to be hot shot (jalapenos, paprika etc.) That they just sprinkled a few onions on top of a plain parmo! We didn't complain and ate the food My sister also raised the concern if her chicken was cooked properly but it seemed like there were no staff on the floor to question. It looked as if there was cheese and breadcrumbs coated on a piece of raw chicken. Overall would rate this meal / service a 3/10 and WOULD NOT recommend.

Second visit now and no improvement. Was willing to give it a chance as just opened. Waited hours for a couple of dishes, which is wholly unacceptable. Salad looked like it had been preserved since Noah's ark. So much salt it almost gave me a stroke. And seems staff can't decide what is available on the menu and what isn't.... ordered one thing, something else came and got the greatest attempt at an excuse ever. I'd rather they just simply said it wasn't available than give me a movie script. Charged for a couple of sauces despite buying full meals. There's an alternative in city centre called Manjaros... better taste, better service and not tight with their sauces. I mean howay man, your sauce is your USP; at least give ONE with each meal!? It was embarrassing watching the lass flap because she didn't know if the sauces came with the meal, called us back as she decided they weren't. This isn't how you retain customers. Can't see this place lasting long at all. Won't visit a third time.

Great food but lacking service. We were told as we sat down that it would be a little more of a wait due to a larger table which is fine but even then it wasn't that busy. The food came an hour later, we ordered the mighty parmesan between 3 people which was very nice. The parmos were thin but had a nice consistency of bechamel and cheese. The wakka parmo was specially nice and was different to the other as parmos chicken is covered in spices. The chips/wedges and acccompying wings were also nice. The wings did come later and we had to remind the staff about it as well as asking twice for water. If they sort the service out this could have been a 5 star and I feel could easily been a 3 star based on the service provided on the day. The place has nice decor and is clean. Regardless of the criticism the staff were pleasant. Will be back to try more of their dishes and hope they tune up their service.

Really slow service. Head Chef seems to be like a headless chicken in the kitchen.

I can’t believe that we waited 45 mins for our food. We were not told that it would be that long, and when my friend had enough of waiting around and stood up, 2 waiters came and promised us that it would be 2 mins. For only then a manager to come to us and say, that he had not been told of our order until 15 mins prior to ourselves standing up to go away. Seriously please sort this out. We both walked away not waiting around and disappointed. As someone that understands that food can take time to cook, the issue here is not the food, it’s the communication. Clearly customers had seen that we walked out. We didn’t want to. But what choice did we have? Were we offered free food because of this? No. I do hope to come again one day but this experience has left me feeling numb. My friend was a first time customer too. Sorry guys but I have a great time the other day with a 10 min wait for food. But this time, not sure what happened. 🤷🏽‍♂️😔

The theme and styling looks nice but it's just an overrated restaurant. £15 for a dish with about 9 or 10 small prawns in it is a bit steep. Parmo mixed grill also a bit steep for what you get. No sides or even a salad. Everything is covered in the same sauce. Out mixed grill was unfortunately served not even warm. The small parmo on the other hand was the only hot serving there. It looks like a nice place otherwise, inherited deco from the previous business that was there. It can be a lot better and I hope it does get better.

I came here with my lass, it was the best experience in my life because this was the first valentine with her. I love her soo much, thanks for having us today we sure will be back. ❤️ (A candle light was missing)

1st ever customer and can honestly say it was amazing, food 5*, great service, music created a great atmosphere... Will be back very soon.
