Kilimanjaro Coffee in Edinburgh, City of

Overrated. As a warning there is no WiFi access which is fine but they should make this clear from the outset. When I explained that I needed access to the WiFi and would like a refund this was refused. I was told by staff that the policy for any refund was to email the owner directly and this would be considered as “he didn’t trust staff to give refunds”

The experience was disappointing to say the least. The pricing was excessive, with a cappuccino costing £4.25 - exorbitant even by Edinburgh standards. The staff's demeanor was unwelcoming. When I inquired about WiFi availability, the employee responded with an odd hand gesture, as if the request was out of the ordinary. Additionally, the restroom had an unpleasant smell was a a I’mb was

The woman that was working at the cake counter was so rude and unwelcoming to us that we decided to not sit down; we left the Cafe' upset and without ordering anything. We are local and have experienced rude staff in Kilimanscharo on and off over the many years that we have lived here but ever so often we go back to give the place a chance (as we don't have so many Cafe's in the locality AND the food has always been good) but what happend today has put us off for at least another year if not more. Please, please, please, employ staff that loves working with people and not despise customers.

Was in Edinburgh one Sunday morning, and with a long day ahead of me needed something to eat and my coffee fix. Decided upon Kilimanjaro Coffee, and was rather busy, and prices looked not to bad. Ordered a breakfast roll and coffee to go. Both were very tasty, but what stops this being a 5 star review was the long wait I had which was well over 10 minutes. Was busy, but should not have taken that long for my simple order.

You'd think that putting a tea bag in a pot and bringing to a table would take at most 5 minutes, but after waiting 25+ minutes still nosing of the tea ordered!! See ya....

Fantastic friendly welcome from the staff and quickly served. What more do you need from a cafe. Will definitely be back.

I live nearby so have been an occasional customer for a long time. The coffee, chai latte and scones are always lovely. I popped in today for the first time in quite a while and the chai latte which was just as good as always. However I made the mistake of going to the loo. It's obviously not being cleaned. The floor was filthy and there's no hook to hang bags, so I had no choice but to put my bag on the floor. The sink overflow seemed to be extremely dirty too, which may be why the place smelled so bad.

Very nice, cosy and welcoming spot in the heart of Edinburgh. The coffee is delicious as are the scones. Wide variety of snacks, dessert and brunch options. The staff is welcoming, smiley and friendly. Very nice experience of a warm break in a rainy afternoon.

Came for brunch. Delicious! Loved the fritters. Nice coffee. Big portions too. Couple of the chairs need some reupholstery but didn’t impact the place 😆

Having seen some positive reviews I was keen to try this place for a coffee and potentially some food. We tried to sit outside but the table hadn’t been cleared which wasn’t an issue, so I just took the couple of mugs that had been left there inside with me when I went to order. What was me trying to help, or at least clear the table so we weren’t sat at a dirty one, led to a male member of staff (or owner?) snapping at me that he was about to get someone to clear it, rudely shoving a menu at me and telling me to come back when I want to order - even though I was already ready. We then moved inside after realising that sitting out the front wasn’t particularly nice, at which point I overheard him complaining miserably to his colleague “why have they now moved table!?” as if that is such a crime when we hadn’t even ordered by that point. The coffee is okay and the decor etc is nice, but based on my experience and how I was made to feel by this person in particular I cannot justify recommending this place to anybody that wants to visit a friendly, hospitable cafe.

This is the temple of Breakfast! Every day you can see different fragrant cakes and soft scones taken out of the oven. Tha staff is really nice and welcoming and the place is really quiet and relaxing to anjoy a wonderful english/scottish breakfast. 100% recommended!

Loved the fruit scones with clotted cream and jam enough to come back a second time during our 5-day trip to Edinburgh. Always served for a reasonable price by friendly and fast staff.

Great coffee and a wonderful breakfast. Couldn’t fault it, apart from the fact we were all so full couldn’t eat one of the cakes as well.

We no longer live in Edinburgh but love to visit and always fit in a coffee here……. Sadly this is now the second consecutive visit when we’ve been disappointed with the quality of the coffee. It used to be fabulous but no longer. My lemon poppyseed cake was dry and my partner’s cheese scone lacked flavour (and cheese!). Time to find another spot for our elevenses.

Visited with my wife, we had the Kili breakfast (full breakfast) and the Benny breakfast (eggs Benedict). Both enjoyed very much, good sausage, nice sourdough bread and good loose leaf tea.

Had a dry bacon sandwich with a nice cup of tea. Staff were lovely and the atmosphere was cozy, but the foot was a little bland.

Great service, relaxed atmosphere and fabulous coffee. Would recommend this place. Very nice croissants too.

Have been going to Kilimanjaro for more years than I can remember.Very upset and disappointed today as I ventured in to have a sit in coffee under the Covid19 guidelines, to be served coffee by a member of staff without a mask on. Poor poor show, not to mention the contravention of Scottish Government guidelines.If there was a ‘medical’ reason for this individual to be ‘mask exempt’ they should not be in a public facing situation. I shall not be back.

We went here on recommendation and were not disappointed. We had a great breakfast. The staff were welcoming and friendly and the area we were in was clean and comfortable. Recommended.

We won't be back. We were told we couldn't order any of the hot options as they stopped serving (despite it being 5 mins before the time they stopped serving), but ok fair enough. We then had a very overpriced and uninspired cold sandwich. Member of staff was very condescending, acted as though I should have know that I couldn't order the food, despite this not being on the menu. Unimpressed.

Needed to find somewhere to kill an hour and decided to have br/fast here. What a disappointment this experience was. Having spent a lifetime in the hospitality industry I would rarely complain about anything because I understood the pressures that staff work under. I need to make an exception here. £22+ for 2 breakfasts in a café, is in my opinion, excessive. I accepted the cost and waited for my food. I asked for haggis to be left out, I got haggis. Overcooked mushrooms, a potato scone that had been pre-cooked and re-heated was like slate and not edible and one single sausage of the most basic quality. Half of my plate was taken up with toast and small dishes of butter and a preserve. The toast and "breakfast" food was lukewarm as was the tea that was delivered 10 minutes before our food. The equipment used for boiling the water needs refreshed to rid hot beverages of that stale taste. The only redeeming part of the whole experience was my bacon, which was crispy as requested. I always taught young chefs that the most important meal of the day for most folk is breakfast. This is obviously not taught or understood here. All in all a very poor performance and product produced and delivered by what can only be amateurs/hobbyists. There was nothing professional here. Will not be back.

Nice place, shame about your male member of staff that was pretty rude and unwelcoming clearly couldn’t be bothered. Ps don’t be dog friendly if your staff/customers don’t like dogs! Got quite a few scowls. Unenjoyable experience.

Stopped here for a quick cuppa on a cold day. Small and quirky. Nice chai masala. Will defo return if in the area

Popped in here because it was close to our accommodation. I had the fritters and my husband had the kili breakfast. Food and coffee were delicious! It's 5 stars from us.

For a coffee house to make such poor coffee is unexpected. Our cooked breakfast was all fried on the same pan it seemed: fried egg was covered in the burnt remains of what was in the pan before. Is it really a difficult to fry an egg in a clean pan? That said, the quality of the ingredients was very good but my god is it expensive. About £12 for a fry up and tea. There are many other coffee houses on this street and we went elsewhere for the rest of our stay.

I've been here a few times. It is a nice, relaxed atmosphere and it has an okay selection of food - not the typical cafe food, so it might not be good for picky people. Unsure if it is good for kids either. I got the banana and strawberry smoothie along with he halloumi and avocado sandwich which was very nice.

I have been to this gem of a place many times over the years, it has never disappointed me. You can go in for just a coffee and scone or a pastry (all good) or a decent bowl of soup.This time, it was during the festival so we were pleasantly surprised to have the usual efficient service. The staff have always been friendly and helpful if you have a query about allergies or food dislikes. We both chose sandwiches with different fillings. When they came, they were packed with fresh roasted veg, salad and halloumi. And none of your boring, sliced bread - lovely thick slices of fresh tasty bread. You really know when you have had a decent sandwich and this place does it!

Kilimanjaro Coffee is just what one wants for a relaxed breakfast during the festival. Great Red Brick coffee, generous eggs and toast and fresh orange juice. Oh and a brilliant background music playlist.

Highly recommend the veggie platter. This is a quiet, wonderful breakfast/coffee shop. I stop by every time I visit Edinburgh.

Siamo finiti in questo localino dopo la discesa dall'Arthur's seat: un po' stanchini e infreddoliti, con il bisogno di mettere qualcosa sotto i denti. Posticino hipster, informale, con una buona scelta di dolcetti. Per la nostra merenda sinoira (visto che ormai si erano fatte le 18) abbiamo optato per un tè alla menta e per la carrot cake (molto buona, anche se in versione semi-salutista). Ottimo rapporto qualità/quantità/prezzo.

We stopped at Kilimanjaro for breakfast and had a wonderful meal. The portions are excellent value and the scrambled eggs were delicious. The orange juice was freshly squeezed and really refreshing. This is a lovely little cafe with a good range of breakfast and pastry options and a nice, relaxed atmosphere.

Walking along Nicholson street, coming from the city centre, I found this cafe on the left hand side. Cool and quite cheap place, I stopped for a coffee and I see some nice looking homemade scones and I didn't resist. Very good and tasty. The place was very busy on a Saturday morning. Friendly staff, nice place inside, good menu. Definitely recommended!!!

We liked this place so much we went for breakfast twice in 3 days. Lovely, friendly staff, great food and reasonable prices - we had the 'fritters' on day one - delicious and then on the second visit the full breakfast which was fab! Lovely place, try it.

Too often in Edinburgh we're charged too much for a large cup of hot water and a tea bag. Thanks for a freshly made pot using tea leaves which was enjoyable and satisfying. Worth the price. Freshly made sandwich was stuffed with filling and went down a treat. Thanks to one and all.

I have been here for lunch with friends many times. The food is good (especially the poached egg with avocado) and the staff friendly, but our last visit was ruined by the noise level. It was lunchtime and very busy, but the music was on way too loud and it was virtually impossible to have a conversation. Rather than stay for cake and coffee, we left to get those somewhere quieter where we could have a chat - rather the reason for meeting for lunch in the first place. I would need convincing to go back...

I don’t live in Edinburgh but every time I visit, a coffee in Kilimanjaro is on the itinerary. So was really looking forward to my coffee on Friday last week, but sadly it was nothing like the smooth, exquisite experience of all previous visits. Barely average. Gutted. Quite like the internal refurb though...

Actually I was looking forward to coffee here... But it proved to be nothing but average. Flat white nothing special. Service beyond routine. I did not enjoy my experience here at all. Felt unfriendly, unwelcome in so many ways. Not recommended.

The place gave as a warm welcome! Big handmade dishes and bakery. The quality of the products is high level and the staff is really nice and polite.

Excellent coffee, hot chocolate, and cheese scones. Relaxed atmosphere and the antithesis of a chain coffee experience without being a hipster haunt. Open until 8pm!

We stopped at this cafe before Arthur's seat. I myself had a decent enough cappuccino but my gf had a soya cappuccino which had lumps in the milk. She did go back up to let the lad know and he just said that happens sometimes. The problem is if the consistency isn't correct I would hope the server could see they have curlded the milk with the hot water. He said it was because it wasn't the same as chain store soya milk.The decor was nice enough and so was the lady that servered us.

Good coffee, surprisingly large pleasant space. Opens 0730 unlike many of the independents so good for the early morning punter. Miles better than the chains.

Another great lunch at Kilimanjaro which is a favourite of ours. Always a few soups on offer but on Sunday we both had Avo toast, the poached eggs done to perfection. Keep up the good work !

Pretty nice cozy cafe for breakfast and brunch. Close to Royal Mile and George Square. Quite a selection of daily soups to choose. We tried the Shrooms and Granola which were nice. There is also daily selection of brownies and scones. Good alternative for brunch.

Fantastic find near our room for the weekend and close to centre...worth the short walk to find it. Amazing breakfast menu with unusual options as well as traditional...huge portions of fresh ingredients served quickly...very friendly service and lovely atmosphere...superb vegetarian choices. Perfect before a walk up Arthurs Seat.

My friends and I always come here when we visit Edinburgh as the brunch is the best we have had. I always get the veggie breakfast as the vegetarian haggis is to die for. My friends tend to get the Kili breakfast which is a full Scottish breakfast. They also have really nice scones and cakes. Highly recommended!

I had the eggs with mushrooms and sourdough bread and a coffee, but everything was really sour. I could not eat it. I am really sorry guys,but it wasn’t as expected only the bread. The mushrooms and even the coffee were way too sour. My stomach still hurts. I felt really sick after eating here..My boyfriend’s food was okay, but his coffee was also sour.

£2.85 for a take-away americano bought for other half on way back to the car. Strong coffee went down well. Sweet treats at counter looked very tempting but had sufficient willpower to walk away. Worth a try.

Contentissimi della posizione, buon caffe e buon scone tipico scozzese. Personale gentile e per colazione ci ha risolto a un prezzo normale. Consigliato se si soggiorna nei dintorni e si vuole evitare la colazione che oofre l’hotel.

Everything about our visit was great. Just around the corner from where we stayed, as a group of 8 we worried we wouldn’t all fit in one place for brunch. We’re so pleased we came across Kilimanjaro...light bright and friendly with excellent food. We ordered a selection of breakfasts, juices, teas & coffees and all were polished off. I had a freshly squeezed OJ, cup of English breakfast tea with a full Kilimanjaro breakfast which was excellent. The cafe was busy and the staff were extremely efficient. Would definitely come back & certainly recommend.

Wer sich gerne ein gekochtes englisches oder schottisches Frühstück gönnt, ist hier bestens aufgehoben - die gekochten Frühstücksangebote - auch für Vegetarier - waren jedesmal ausgezeichnet. Wer gerne nachher noch etwas Süßes mag, dem seien die Scones mit Clotted Cream empfohlen. Auch der Jade Cloud Green Tea, den ich dort immer getrunken habe, ist von ausgezeichneter Qualität.Die Bestellung und Abrechnung erfolgt an der Bar, die Bestellungen werden dann an den Tisch serviert.

I stumbled across this cafe while out walking in the rain and was gifted with the best breakfast I've had in my three weeks in Scotland. I had a delicious platter with zucchini, poached eggs, rocket leaves, beet chutney, avocado and bacon. I ordered a couple of scones to go to share with friends and they were easily the best scones we've had. The coffee was also lovely. I'm hoping to make it back soon.

Nous nous sommes arrêtés au Kilimanjaro coffee pour un goûter après une ballade dans les Meadows juste à côté.Nous avions pris deux scones, un jus de fruit et une limonade. Les jus (tout comme les smoothies) sont fait sur place à la demande, et la limonade était en bouteille mais bio. Nous avons payé un peu moins de 12 livres, ce qui est raisonnable vu la fraîcheur des produits.Ce restaurant propose des gâteaux, des scones, des smoothies, des jus, des boissons chaudes, des formules de brunch.

Atmosfera intima, locale carino e personale gentile. Cibo buono e prezzi moderati. Se si vuole stare tranquilli, mangiare bene e spendere il giusto questo è il posto adatto

My first visit here. Decent amount of tables and friendly staff. Menu options is quite small but I see that as a good thing. I had ‘benny’ which was a great portion size and loads of flavour. I had an americano, good sized cup and great taste. Will definitely return.

My friend and I both ordered the Kili breakfast. A massive fry up served with a ton of sourdough toast, butter and marmalade, haggis, sausage, potato scone, tomato, mushrooms and bacon. Every piece of this dish was delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I don’t normally find a fry I can finish but I just could t leave a morsel it was so tasty. The staff are friendly and efficient. The place has a lovely rustic and relaxed feel. A new favourite spot for breakfast when I visit Edinburgh.

Love hanging out in this place on a regular occasion, great meet up place, and good for students. It can get a little hectic as it is so busy! You just have to be on time to get a table.

Every time I’ve been here I’ve been reminded why I haven’t hurried back. Met a friend here today (his suggestion) and it was so poor I’ve had to write a review. Ordered 2 coffees and a bacon roll - £8.10. Mine was an Americano with soya milk.. when added to the coffee it separated like it was curdled. I took it over to the counter and was told soya milk does that. Well it never has, and I drink it daily! Rude staff and cheeky response from the barista. Ordered a flat white instead. Was brought a small instead of the large I paid for, but this was all lumpy too! The bacon roll was fatty, undercooked bacon that looked grey. Totally unappetising. This place has never lived up to its hype. Just a mediocre cafe that definitely needs to source a different soya milk brand!

Delicious espresso (they had different coffee grind settings for different coffees- how it should be) and top rate brunch. I had the eggs and bacon on courgette fritters. Their business levels was a testament to their standard. Young man who served us was very pleasant. Sadly there was no facilities to change my baby and when I asked if I could change her on the sofa, I was told yes but I'd receive no support if any other diners complained.. A shame.

Wandered down for breakfast on our last morning in Edinburgh after reading the reviews. The coffee was good, but the breakfast was not amazing (especially considering the price). Don't get me wrong- it was made very well but presentation seemed to be lacking on the plates. The atmosphere was also very stale - not a very warm and cozy place for a coffee shop. If I was in the area I would grab a cup to go, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back.

Set in student city, certainly felt older than the rest of the clientele. Coffee was strong and well made and the carrot cake was delicious - good mixture of ingredients and flavours. Coffee was more than I would normally pay, but it was a good atmosphere

Really nice coffee, just slipped down a treat. I had the ‘fritters’- courgette fritters on a bed of rocket topped with softly poached eggs, salty feta, bacon, avocado and a side of a tasty chutney. My husband had the granola-crunchy cereal with apples and banana served with yoghurt and honey. His only comment was that a few fresh blueberries would have transformed it from great to wonderful. I’d always thought Kilimanjaro was just a place to go for scones; I see now the error of my ways!

This is my go-to place when I am graving a Chai Tea Latte because they really do make the best in Edinburgh (Frederick's Coffee House on Frederick Street make a good one too). The service isn't that great though and you always feel like you're a nuisance to the staff.

Great coffee, amazing carrot cake. The locals choice. Decor is informal, so may not be to everyone's liking, but the quality of tea, coffee and cake makes up for it. Great service too!
