Iv been a customer for 30 plus years . They prided themselves on fresh home cooked food . Since the patriarch died the food has become very expensive and very oily, different taste completely. I won’t be going back nor my family .

First of all, the food here is good. I have never sat in, but got takeaways. Unfortunately the owner/head of front of house, is unfriendly and obnoxious, and I have experienced this a few times now. The way he speaks to you, is so unfriendly. The latest experience, I ordered online on their website. My bank account was debited, so I went to collect. They have no details of the order. I have since had the transaction reversed, but this was not the case at the time. As a result, when my collection was declined, I tried to look for confirmation of payment. Whilst doing so, the, I think owner, or front of house manager, made his frustration clear, hassling me to make a new order, which I did do. He happened to give me the order, but his disdain for me was clear. The food is good, but it has lost a lot of points due attitude.

Well, this review would have scored 5 had it not been for the rude, uninterested staff member! The ambience was lovely, the food as always was excellent and byob is a great addition. We were served by a very polite, friendly young gentleman who could not have been more attentive. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal & our evening until said guy showed up. The restaurant was not busy, and we did not stay beyond closing time, but this man did not engage with us, turned the lights on full bright, and clearly wanted to go home! He was, however, happy to take our payment and the 10% service charge that was added! Kushis is a great local restaurant with excellent food, but this is not acceptable behaviour, especially when the prices are a little on the high side for an out of town restaurant. All credit to the young gentleman who served us & hopefully he will get the well earned service charge. He and the food are the reason we would return!

Having not eaten at Kushis for a long time we were looking forward to our meal last night , unfortunately it turned out to be one of the worst eating experiences in West Lothian for many a year. Walking through the front door on a cold , wet night we were met with no greeting or a smile or a friendly good evening , please take a seat. The one waiter grumbled a “ for two “ and pointed to a table in the corner. Despite on our part to engage with friendly conversation this was rebuffed all times , no interaction or any attempt at warm friendly service. When we asked about the menu , about the appetisers or starters , about the rice dishes we were quickly told “everything must be paid for separately “ which was not the point , we simply wanted clarity on the food in general before we ordered.The food was brought with again no interaction or even a civil word , absolutely terrible service . The quality of the main dishes was good but I would suggest the overall price was high , a simple curry with rice costing close to £20 .The idea of BYOB is good and appreciated in what are currently difficult times for everyone. When I eat out at a restaurant the type of welcome and attitude of the staff is crucial , in many cases it is the main reason to return on a regular basis , it is the simplest part of the evening which can be offered by any restaurant. In this case it was completely absent and needs to be addressed.We had thought it would be so good to have another restaurant in our local area to attend but if failed miserably , what a pity.

Worth a visit. Food excellent service excellent. Pleasant place to dine in. Prices a little dear but as is most places these days.

One of the best takeaways we’ve had in ages - this was our first time trying Khushi’s mid Calder. The food was so delicious - fresh, tasty and not oily. The garlic naan was amazing and we both loved our curries. Will be coming back soon :-)

Ordered online delivery quoted around 45 mins 2hrs and 10 mins later arrived cold. Put me off ordering again

Despite the lockdown khushis promptly delivered their usual very good food. As always a treat, lamb khari, mixed starters, big nan etc

First time for a take away from here Never Again! Food was cold portions small. Half portion of chips. Rice was disgusting not pilau and half a portion so not much between two. Nan was small. Curries both greasy and cold.mixed starter was soggy cold and greasy. Very expensive for what we got. Appreciate this is a difficult time for business but to serve food like this is shameful.

I would order kushis regularly but never again, business has went very down hill!! Ordered a delivery at 18:35, food arrived at 19:55 after being told it would only be 25-30 minutes.Pakora portions were 5 little bits of dry chicken with dripping greasy soft topping. Tikka masala was watery and not flavourful at all.Rice felt tough and not fully cooked. Not to mention the prices keep going up!!

As always Kushis King Prawn Vindaloo was outstanding! My husband and I are huge curry fans and haven’t found any nearly as good as this

There were 6 of us as it was my husband and my birthday so my family took us to Khushi in Mid Calder, the food was amazine from starters to desserts and the staff were brilliant. The only thing was although my family told me we had to bring our own drink I drink vodka and coke so I mixed mine up in a coke bottle only to be told that I couldnt brink in soft drinks, but when I explained it was voda and coke mixed he then told me I was'nt allowed vodka either as the only alcahol that is allowed is wine and beer and I dont drink either, so I was very upset but the man said because it was my first time there he would allow this but not even my family knew this, so bewere when you go it's only wine and beer. Also they make you take your empty bottles home with you and if you dont you have to pay 25p on every bottle you leave again we didnt know that so again bewere.

I’ve been here a few times for carry outs but will think twice about going back now. Food has always been good but never impressed by the owner’s attitude. He’s very lucky the foods decent otherwise there would be no business for him based on his attitude alone. Try not being obnoxious and arrogant when customers are handing you their hard earned cash.

We took the opportunity to use a local Indian restaurant close to our cottage location.Easy to find, high street parking, we had just a 30 minute wait after ordering our food and then enjoyed an excellent variety of food.Very good value for money and tasty food.

we thought we'try this restaurant for takeaway and I must say this is the best meal we have had in long time. very short and simple menu, found taste exactly as per the recommendation, intending to repeat order

Do not waste your hard earned money in this establishment. We tried two different curry dishes and they were disgusting. Never again.

Friday night visit. As always food fresh and tasty. Service fast and efficient. Restaurant had a few large parties in so was really noisy but nonetheless a great atmosphere. Starters nice, curries lovely and garlic nan top class. Portions could be a bit bigger but mibbe I’m just a greedy so and so!

Excellent restaurant. Food was delicious, service first class and staff lovely. Good ambience and very reasonably priced. First visit but will definitely return. A real find.

This is always a very popular restaurant and it's easy to see why. Unlike some other Indian restaurants the menu is straight forward which helps those less familiar with different dishes understand what they are going to get. The servings are the right size meaning you're not struggling to finish, or leaving with an over full stomach.

After recently moving to the area I used to get an Indian weekly at my previous place but after my last two weeks with this place I am giving up. 2 1/2 hours after the order is placed it arrives and the week previous it comes with zero rice that was paid for. Shame great food but currently sitting with the family starving

So tried Khushies again after its referb and wasnt dissapointed. Booked a table for 4 people and just as well, as it was almost full. Fast friendly service provided prosecco glasses and half pint glasses as we brought or own supply. Very good selection of gluten free although the pakora isn't gf ? Ordered 4 starters, 4 mains with rice and naan very tasty very nice atmosphere although was a bit warm especially the ladies, maybe it was just hot flushes..... anyway food and service excellent definitely worth a visit.

Normally a cliche but this little place is a true hidden gem. The service was very attentive and efficient and nothing was any trouble at all. The chef, or should I say the magician, created an absolute treat of a vegetarian madras. Look this place up and pay them a visit, you will not be disappointed.

We had an excellent dinner last night. The lamb was melt in your mouth with great flavours combined well with the large garlic naan.

Beautiful Indian food best I have had in a while the down side they don’t serve alcohol but I believe you can take your own(slight fee if you do ) ... Well decorated and a lovely atmosphere

The food has always been outstanding here and that has never changed. Sadly the service can be a bit hit and miss! However worth it for the food. Be warned parking can be limited!

Ordered delivery meal tonight arrived great time 40min ,But went downhill fast the quality & taste of the food was usually amazing but not tonight rice had lumps and looked tired ?

Visited last week. Visited several times now. Always very enjoyable. Never had a problem. Food very good and with BOB you can't argue. Keep it up.

Ordered a takeaway at 6pm on a Saturday night from this establishment, didn’t arrive until half 7. When it did arrive one meal was missing. Once realising this we phoned and were met with a very unapologetic and cheeky member of staff who answered the phone (male voice did not offer his name). I explained that one meal was missing to the member of staff who offered no apology for the inconvenience and just simply said “well we can get it back to you but it’ll be another hour”. I explained that this was not good enough and and the member of staff once more offered now form of apology or compensation. I put down the phone and the second meal arrived 2 hours later at half past 9!!

Ordered a takeaway tonight & arranged to pick it up. We live in Livingston so it's a 10 minute drive away. When we got our order home we realised they'd not put our main course in the bag!!! We had our shared starter, rice & nan but no chilli garlic chicken. We then spent 20 mins trying to get through to them on the phone. Decided to drive back to Mid Calder & ask for our dinner. They apologised but that's not really acceptable when the rest of our food is now freezing cold & we've had to make 2 journeys. The food itself was nice but once you've reheated everything in the microwave, nothing is at its best. Come on kushis, at least deduct the main course off the bill to make up for the hassle. Service like this will lose you long term customers if you're not more careful. Very disappointed tonight.

Kushis in Edinburgh is amazing so was really looking forward to eating from here. I needn’t have bothered the food was terrible in comparison. Really dissatisfied

Very disappointed. I ordered through just eat and received an update @ 19.15 that my order was en-route. I called the restaurant direct to chase at 20.21 to be told that my order had just left and as it was the only order the driver would be coming straight to me. Finally my order arrived at 20.40. The food was cold and the pakora were soggy. I phoned the restaurant to make a complaint only to be asked what did I want them to do. I asked for a credit and was told i was not their customer but I was a customer of Just Eat and that they would not offer a full credit. The staff member even so much as acknowledged that the pakora were soggy as my order had been forgotten. I am really unhappy, this was a special treat meal planned. I paid the expensive delivery and waited far longer than advised and as directed, contacted the restaurant where I hit a brick wall - they couldn’t care less. It is a very busy restaurant and I felt that they didn’t care as they have so much patronage they could afford to lose my custom. I would appreciate a response from your complaints team.

really disappointed with our order tonight, not consistent with the usual quality. I ordered a bunha, and the sauce was flavorless and of a much more watery consistency, I also only received a half portion (my tub was half full). not what you expect when you spend £9.70 on a curry. my husband ordered a saag, which he enjoyed and received a full portion of.

We have eaten here for lunch a few times - fantastic tapas style lunch - choice of 2 small bowls of curry, nan and rice - food is amazing, and great service - when we have been in the restaurant has been quiet as it was early. Also had takeaway - have good dinner offers, and it was still piping hot when we got it home. If you like authentic Indian food - this is a great place to visit.

We attended here to celebrate my father in laws 60th birthday. There were 5 adults and one infant. We had poppadoms to share and waited 75 mins for our main meal after complaining about the wait. Tables that were seated after us were served before us. The food was nice enough but I wouldn’t rush back. Far better Indian in Armadale which serves excellent food and always offers great service. BYOB is good. After paying £110 bill we left disappointed.

The Pakora was in a polystyrene container so it just sweats and goes soggy. Put it in paper bags instead! (And paper can be recycled.) The tandoori looked and tasted insipid. My first and last order.

Quick delivery and lovely food - paneer jalfrezi could’ve used a little bit more sauce though! Naan breads are amazing.

So the meal was advised that it would be an hour, I thought OK. Then when it was half and late I tried to call, no answer, I then tried again no answer, I then messaged just eat who also tried to call with no luck, the delivery driver then called me and thankfully two hours after ordering my order arrived, don't think I'll be able using again

Delivery time was shocking. Food was cold when it arrived. Korma sauce had no thickness, it was like water and the rice was hard. Very poor today Khushis used to be decent.

Excellent authentic food. Great service and choice. Lamb is absolutley delicious and Nan breads are large and tasty. Would recommend booking as gets very busy.

Ordered lamb Bhuna from Kushis tonight and I could not eat it as it has too much spice. I always get this dish at every Indian I go to and have never had this issue before. Pakora was nice though

Chicken was tough as old boots, doubt some of it was chicken as had strange texture. Sauce watery and tasteless. Naan bread chewy

Delivery from Kushi’s and their ability to process online orders was always erratic and unpredictable at best - but the quality of the food always made up for that. Unfortunately our last order, whilst only moderately late for them, delivered food that was well below their standards and compared poorly against other local restaurants. So our last order will be our last order☹️

The food was bland I had a chilli tandoori tikka and it tasted of lemon not chilli. Very disappointing definitely not value for money.

usually the food is very good, however this time, the daal was dry and didn't taste like usual daal.It was horrible. Vegetable vindaloo contained cauliflower and nothing else. Tasted like it was old food, very disappointing.

The food here is aways really good and is really tasty but it was 45 minutes late and I had to call twice to chase it up. If the food wasn't as good as it was I wouldn't be orderin from here again.

This hast to be THE most awful Indian food I have ever tasted. The pakora was undercooked and under-seasoned - a mixture of bland vegetables and greasy raw batter. For the main I chose a boonagh to be on the safe side as this was a first visit...it was inedible. This is supposed to be a mild to medium heat dish and it was impossible to eat, even with the addition of yoghurt.

Well presented contemporary Indian restaurant. Visited on a Tuesday evening so as expected not too busy but a fair clientele nevertheless. Waitress was superb throughout and very pleasant and professional. Both the starters(Swordfish) and main (Lamb) were delicious and cooked to perfection, so tender it melted in the mouth. A wee tad expensive at over £23 for a single meal however the prices are there to be seen so no surprises! Today’s Specials were non existent wonder why they even have a board? Surreal occurrence during my meal- a vegetable delivery at 7.30pm and all carried to the kitchen through the main restaurant!!! Should not detract too much from what was a great meal

the food was amazing however I asked for some extra korma sauce and they charged £4.75. considering a korma dish is £7.50 I thought that was a bit much.

Food ok but late and some items cold

Kushi's is a quality Indian-style restaurant in an area where quality cuisine is in short supply. The menu contains dishes that are familiar plus others that are rarer and original. The service is good and dishes are prepared on the spot. A good experience.

Huge chunks of paneer....tasty...would recommend will order again

Carry out this time to suit us all. Love being able to personalise our order so lamb khari may not be on current menue but you can still ask for it and ask to thicken the tarka dhal as even nicer. Great poppadoms and nan breads love a khushis

Part of order was missing, called restaurant they weren't very helpful said sorry we are busy. Asked if I wanted it with my next order. I told them I wanted it delivered straight away. Said could not do that and would deliver it as soon as they could, probably about half hour. It's now over 45 minutes ago still no order Very disappointed

Didn't arrive due to kitchen problems

We visited as two couples, between the age of 40 and early 50's, who are well travelled and open minded, however we all value service and quality. When we arrived, first impressions were that the restaurant was well set out, fresh, clean and airy. The staff were friendly and welcoming.

Khushi's have been in Bank Street, Mid Calder, for years. Incidentally, Trip Advisor list it as being in Livingston, the big town next door, but it is in Mid Calder, a traditional Scottish village along the banks of The River Almond.

good was due to be delivered at 9pm after being order via the just eat app at 8pm. The order still had not arrived at 9:16pm, on phoning the restaurant I was told my order had “just left”. I advise I wasn’t happy about this as this meant my order not reaching me till 9:30pm. Sorry was given but this was all. Order actually arrived at 9:45pm, 45 minutes late. the starter was greasy and the South Indian curry bland. The pilau rice was over cooked and then Nan cold. We will not ever order again, waste of £30.

Only ordered from here because Bay Leaf was closed... Won't make that mistake again! The food was appallingly late and the food that arrived was awful. Two bits of chicken (although it tasted of fish) for the starter, saag paneer that was tasteless and the paneer was more like feta cheese, no flavour to any of the other dishes, and the smallest naan bread I've ever seen. Will never order from khushis again if this is the standard.

Food arrived cold. 2 bits of chicken for one of the starters and 4 x small mushrooms for the other starter. 8 x small bits of chicken for the main course. £20 cost. Very disappointed, extremely expensive for the quality and quantité. First time so will not recommend and will not use again.

Slot was given then changes on route. Food was still late out. It took nearly an hour from ordering . Chicken dry. Lamb Bruma had no laste and was watery a d the nan was awful had a chemical smell and also smelt burnt which it was. This is normally the bet bit so was gutted. Portion sizes and quality just do not warrant the money.

Went out for enjoyable meal with family and can definitely recommend this restaurant for quality & taste of the food, The staff are always so friendly & smiles great atmosphere only drawback is the restaurant temperature during cold nights,

We intended visiting another Indian restaurant nearby, but that was closed for a kitchen refurb. I call that serendipity - we had lovely meals at Khushis. Fish and vegetable pakoras were light and crisp, and the dip was punchy and excellent. Chicken Jalfrezi was hot and tasty. It was probably spicier than the equally delicious Chicken Chilli Garlic which used chicken cooked in the tandoor. Pilau rice was simple, cumin flavoured and well cooked. Nan was a bit thin for me, but perfectly adequate. It is clear that the food is freshly prepared - for me, the wait is worthwhile. BYOB is a bonus which might offset the alleged higher food prices mentioned by other reviewers. We will certainly visit again.

When I see such contrasting reviews I suspect a Troll or two, so when I thought I had tried all of our local restaurants, I thought I'd give Khushi's a try.

Chicken makhani was awful - far too sweet, barely edible.

We have been customers of Khushi's for more than twenty years and have always enjoyed their food, whether it's dining with them or a takeaway. In fact, I'm waiting on a delivery right now. It is expensive, compared with other Indian takeaways, but you get what you pay for. I know my dinner is going to be hot, very tasty, best of ingredients and most enjoyable. There is so much food that we always keep half for the next day. I used to have a huge appetite and there was a time when I could scoff the lot in one go but I can't now but I do love the fact that it will do us two days. That makes it more affordable and also more enjoyable because you have enjoyed it twice.

we’ve always gone back to ordering from this restaurant because, although food is historically very late to arrive the food was good. I’m afraid to say that this is no longer the case and now food quality has dropped too. We won’t be using them again.

We visited the restaurant on a Saturday evening and were given a table upstairs. The upstairs seating meant it was very hot and a bit unpleasant.

We ordered Chicken tikka, chilli garlic mutton, naan, rice and samosas. The dishes were COLD, BLAND and TASTELESS. There was so much artificial color added to chicken tikka, it almost tasted like powdered chicken. Butter garlic Naans had neither garlic nor butter. Rice was uncooked. Only samosas were decent but they were cold as well. We had to throw away all of the food! 40£ wasted. Horrible!

We ordered 2.5hrs ahead of our delivery time to allow us time to get kids to bed. When the food was 25 minutes late we called and were told it was ready and they were waiting for a driver to come back and it would be right with us. 35 minutes later it eventually arrived! The food was lukewarm so needed heated up however it was delicious.. If we go back I would collect instead of waiting for a delivery.

Our favourite restaurant to visit with the family! Consistency is hard to find within local restaurants but Khushis are spot on every time. If you’re looking for fast food this isn’t for you, all food is cooked fresh so you can have a bit of a wait but it’s worth it. Our last visit was for a birthday celebration and staff did well to accommodate our large group. Staff were as usual very friendly, nothing was too much trouble. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal from start to finish, I opted for the lamb bhuna which is my favourite. The lamb here is very tender and just melts in your mouth, medium hot with just the right amount of flavour and spice. Without a doubt the best Indian restaurant in West Lothian!

Won't be back in a hurry. Food nice when it eventually arrived but I had to reheat it all as it was cold and the service when I called to enquire was poor. Disappointing.

The delivery took well over an hour and when the food arrived it was lukewarm at best. The food tasted ok. In fairness to the restaurant they offered us extra food to compensate for the extended wait. This didn't feel like enough of a gesture in comparison to the wait we encountered. Won't be using them again I'm afraid.

Ordered 19:10, delivered 21:17. Food cold. Not value for money on service or quality.

best indian meal we have had for a long time

Although the delivery was 15 minutes late, the driver did apologise. The food itself was still hot and very tasty.

We moved from England a few months ago to the city it was our first visit in khushi we have been to other indian restaurants before but it was the best experience, my girlfriend ordered chicken jalfrezi and because I love spicy so did lamb vindaloo, flavour and spicy level was perfect we enjoyed fantastic curries with soft and nice garlic favoured naanbread can't wait to our next visit to khushi
