Kennys Fish 'N' Chips in Bassetlaw

Ordered large mixed meat with onions and chilli and 2 pitta breads from the Worksop shop for delivery. When it arrived, it was small, not large, and no onions !!!! The meat was barely warm and had cold spots through it as if it had been microwaved and not stirred. The doner meat was tough and tasteless. The chicken meat was greasy and cold. I didn't eat it as I thought I might end up poorly. Starfish on Celtic Point is far superior, but they don't deliver, hence the order from here. I won't be bothering again and will drive to Starfish in future!!!

Hello everyone, I bought my favorite fish and chips from this establishment today, everything would have been fine, but they didn’t provide any sauces and there wasn’t enough salt in the dish. In the end, I was full from my belly, but the butter made me a little sick. And yes, I paid 11.5 pounds by card.

Kenny’s really are the best fish shop around . Quality food and service always guaranteed. Would recommend to anyone. Use the shop in Worksop regularly too!

Horrid.....popped in for a takeaway lunch as was in Retford. Had small sausage and chips and a bread cake wrapped up to eat in car. There was around 15 chips which were so dry and hard been cooked for ages. Tried to eat the sausage which again was so hard again stood for ages. Also was all cold. Threw the whole lot in the bin would have taken back if I had more time. These people want our money and must think producing food like this is acceptable. Obviously no one checking produce or even cares

Iv only put one star because I have to.! What an absolute joke of a chippy this is, I went in a brought a LARGE bag of chips for £4.20! I opened the bag to what was no more than about 3 chopped up potatoes! And some bits and crispy sticks! The 3 older women on the counter just shoved her face up and said ‘that is a large!’ I also brought 2 kababs back a few weeks ago, as they was so dry I couldn’t crew it, and also tasted like perfume! Never returning again, once bitten twice shy, it won’t be a third!

I asked for a large portion it barely filled a tray, the chips were so greasy and seemed like they had been twice fryed I could not eat my food I threw it away.

I vowed that I would not buy takeaway chips again.Feeling really hungry bought chips really really tasty .Would visit again

Excellent cod and chips yesterday, as always. Portion size excellent - just right. Prices remain really good value - paid more than twice as much during a recent visit down south. Full restaurant service not currently operating but a bonus being able to still sit inside with your takeaway on a rainy day for no extra charge. Staff always friendly and engaging. Local businesses such as this need all the support they can get and Kenny's Retford deserves it!

we both had fish chips and peas, nice fish and chips. peas very runny, not how we like them.meals served on small tray, no plates.meals hard to keep in tray while eating. lots of other people were heard saying the same.tea not very nice,not very good value.not a lot of chips under fish.

Don't bother with this chip shop absolutely no way is it a 5 star hygiene rating cant be bothered to clean the equipment properly spent £8 and yet had a bug in my food, threw it straight away didn't want another and wont be going back either, and they even sacked one of the best workers who could clean better than the manager could which says a lot in my eyes. Food was even completely soaked in oil which is crazy so manager doesn't know how to drain the grease first before serving or even teach the employees how to.

What a rubbish service you get .Ate in the restaurant at restaurant prices with takeaway service,meal presented on a polystyrene tray with a thin wooden fork and plastic knife, couldn't cut the pie as it had been nuked in the microwave.And then asked to spray and wipe your table down .My advice ,close your restaurant down cos that's clearly not what it is

We used to get a good portion when eating indoors, now all you get is a takeaway served on a tray at restaurant prices, fish was stsle and chips greasy and not alot of them. Cup of tea served in takeaway cups and tasted horrid. Only 3 of us and one other couple where it used to be packed. No toilet facility now, standard has dropped dramatically and we won't be returning.

OK but not great. S Large order and some of the boxes had no greaseproof paper in, the amount of oil that came out of the food was not good the boxes soaked it up.

Shocking chips, I’ve had lots in my time but these are the worst, I though most away, I’ve been sick twice, very greasy, never again

As the title says a Take Out meal bizarrely in a Sit Down Restaurant. Thoroughly enjoyed Fish & Chips even though Fish was a little Battery, the friendliness of the staff totally commended. A good way to spend a sunny Thursday lunchtime.

I've been a regular for several years, usually for plaice. The fish is invariably excellent, the service too, efficient and friendly. Couldn't be happier with the place.

we both had fish and chips,peas outside, not allowed in.had to wait a very long time,they seemed not to be coping well.chips nice, fish very white and tasty.batter on fish not very good,not cooked enough, not very brown,batter a bit soggy.

With the indoor seating area closed due to the covid pandemic situation, a few table &chairs have been provided outside the chippy,should the British weather be kind enough to be able use them as they are open to the elements,but full marks are given for providing this service in a limited space area.i had mini fish chips & peas which was really delicious.

Just had mini fish special with curry, didn't expect the chips being mini potion, I got a grand total of 22 chips and for £5.70 it's a joke expensive and nasty never again will I get anything from there

Called in for a quick tea, really wish I hadn’t bothered, had fish and chips, and my husband had sausage and chips, I think they were the worst food I have ever had. I ended up have to cook because we could not eat them.

Called into Retford yesterday after collecting a bird bath from east Markham and decided to have some fish and chips in the park nearby to Kenny's. The chips were not nice at all and the portion size rubbish, I tried one of their home made fish cakes, hardly any fish visible and my partner had a very small fish, all in all not good value for money and not particularly enjoyable!

We always stop here when in Retford. Lovely chips again today. Can't fault the staff here and the food is delicious.

Staff attitude was poor they were not very approachable. Chips were not cooked thoroughly and were cold 5 mins after ordering. There was more grease than fish. £1 extra on top of just a burger just to have a bun with a burger?? No sauce just bun.Not going to come back.

Nobody go to this place I went its really expensive and the portion size was disgusting it cost me a fortune in there the chips was horrible had to leave them the potatoes hadn't even been peeled properly still potato skin left on and the chips tasted rotten I'm never going to eat in this place again I think the workers is very ignorant and they want a lesson how to cook food they couldn't make a cup of tea or coffee to save there lifes I'm never eating anything from them again

Just visiting Retford and popped in for some fish n chips and NOT disappointed. Polite staff welcome and quick service. Fish n chip special, large haddock n chips cooked perfect. Keep the great standards up. 👍🏼

Went there today with my son .... I ordered a cone of chips n a small bag of chips both costing £1.50 each ... the cone was suffice for my son the I was served a small polystyrene tray with about 30 chips in it for the same price £1.50 .... we went so sit it the restaurant part to eat them as it was cold outside n was refused by staff ... the restaurant wasn't busy so there was ample seating ... the moral or the visit is .... extortionate prices for small portions and ungrateful management for customers .... merry Christmas from a very unsatisfied customer ...

we have often, always very good.friendly staff good service.if in retford give them a try.good quality,never fail to enjoy.upstairs room , but not good stairs if you have walking problems,so stop downstairs.

Called for takeaway fish and chips and somewhere to sit and eat them, the lady in front of me asked to return her fish as it was over cooked I must have receive her fish as mine was the same the chips were not good either maybe they were busy but I shall not be returning.

I was in Retford with a friend and wanted lunch. I was thinking pie & pint , but we settled for Kenny’s fish and chips. I went for the fish chips & mushy peas with bread & butter x2 and a mug of coffee £8.50!What could go wrong?Nothing, it’s the wrong time of year for great chips but the haddock I had was delicious. In a light fully cooked batter and a decent size. It’s been a long time since I had fish n chips and didn’t leave half on the plate because it was rubbish, so this was a real pleasure. This is the first time I had eaten at Kennys, I often walked past it and look in. Me and a friend visited yesterday lunch time there were already a few people in and there was a constant flow of people coming and going. I ordered s large fish and chips which came to £7.00 and my friend had fish cake and chips, it took a while to order but when it arrived it was extremely hot and tasted amazing. The staff were very friendly and helpful and all said goodbye as we left, excellent hospitality. I would definitely eat here again, if I didn’t eat inside the restaurant I would use the take away service they have next to the restaurant.

First time visit to this traditional chippy and cafe. The place was clean and tidy with nice friendly staff.We ordered cod and chips with bread and butter, mushy peas and tea, the fish was cooked to order and looked great.When brought to table the meal was very hot, my fish was perfectly white and flakey chips good really enjoyed it, but my partners fish was thinner and much darker which she didn't enjoy at all.So we left with mixed feelings

these used to be lovely, but recently the quality of chips have just seemed to have gone downhill fast. I don't go there anymore and it's a real shame - the chip cone is now a glorified pile of mash potato with no taste.

This chippy is a complete rip off.the food is stale in the afternoon and poor quality in the evening.

Beautifully cooked fish and chips. Fish batter so light you could see the fish through it and NO skin. Extensive menu to suit big and small appetites and prices to suit all pockets. Very nice feature of this restaurant which we have not experienced before, a small pair of scissors on tables so as to cut open the infuriatingly sauce sachets! Lovely staff made for a very pleasant meal.

Call in with a mate for lunch from time to time.Sometimes full up downstairs but upstairs is another small dining room ..The stairs are a bit tricky though. However chips and fish are excellent ..top class batter. Would recommend.. Good service and smiling staff. Nice background music too

Tenía guisantes, patatas fritas y una comida para llevar a casa hizo fishcake. Las patatas fritas eran patatas y muy sabroso. El fishcake era redonda, crujientes por fuera y suaves por dentro y la luz. Los empastes blancos copos de pescado fresco, y podía probar el perejil fresco. Teníamos un tamaño de la porción y era abundante y buena relación calidad-precio. Sin duda lo recomiendo.

Llama aquí bastante tarde en la tarde, de hecho 30 minutos antes de la hora de cierre. No esperes conseguir recalentadas, pescado y patatas fritas, ya que estábamos realmente los últimos clientes. Nos quedamos muy sorprendidos al encontrar que era pescado fresco que estaba recién preparado y probado increíble. El restaurante es un establecimiento muy bien decorado no adornos en azul y con. Que sirve una selección de salsas y mi pescado con una rodaja de limón. Aunque no creo que era un poco caro nos hizo disfrutar mucho.

Pescado y patatas fritas eran geniales, pero casi dos veces el precio de lugares similares. Esperaba algo más especial por el dinero. Salsas eran muy baratos y gravemente cata de decepción de la comida.

The worst chips I have ever had. I think they are using old oil and cheep quality potatos for fry. I got some oil soaked chips. Feeling sick 😷

Despite being a Redforde resident aka Retford, I haven't sat in and tryed this delicious food, yes was very happy and satisfying, myself I had the big boy cod and chips, mush peas and curry, the fiancé had small cod and chips and pinched my peas and curry..... Lovely chips and the fish was tasty and battered nice, great service and polite, food service, we didn't have to wait long for fresh which was very good, only mark I would put against it is maybe it's a little expensive for what it is but then the industry isn't as cheap as it was, would visit again and recommended.

Day after Boxing Day in town checking out sales, noted that Kenny's was open three of us sat at table outside in the sun. Two had chips and gravy with scraps in a tray, the third had two home made fish cakes in a tray, fantastic she said! Best chips and gravy in tray in town, and they don't scrimp with the scraps either. Eat inside at a table is available, But! As all in UK know eating in your hand outside takes some beating( unless loaded down with sale items.) Kenny's really do best fish and chips in Retford.

Went here for lunch and it was superb, the service was great and the fish was excellent, nice chips, good pot of peas which were also a nice colour (important), I went for the large portion which came with bread and butter and a drink great value at £8.Service was friendly and prompt, the seating area was basic but all you need and in the background they have '60's music playing gently which adds to the effect.Definitely worth a visit if your in Retford.

If you do visit Retford for a spot of shopping,eat at kennys fish n chips. Fish and chips are the best in the area and the chips are the best I've had. Always fresh, hot chips and large portions.

Our first visit we thought the restaurant was clean , the staff friendly and the fish &chips were the best we've had in a while we will call again .

Cannot say more than : fish with crispy batter first class, the chips always brown moist and tasty. Plans a selection of fish cakes etc etc if travelling through town call in you can sit in to eat good service eat at tables outside or take in wrapper home. Good value without heaping chips to try to give quantity without quality .

We visited Retford last month and called into Kenny's for lunch.This was our first time eating here, so we didn't know what to expect.It was really busy downstairs and tables were in short supply. A lovely lady informed us that there was additional seating on the second floor and we found we were the only ones eating upstairs. We ordered the special menu of fish,chips, mushy peas and bread and butter.Our order arrived really quickly, it was piping hot and we found the fish to be of very good quality.Our mug of tea was also good.I appreciated the pair of scissors on the table to open the sauce sachets as I find them rather fiddly to open. Good food, friendly staff....recommended.

Visited 5th may, called here many many times, always been very good fish and chips, NOT today, fish was small watery pieces, not chunks as it used to be, obvious they are after making more profit by buying cheaper fish,will not be calling again thank you.

3rd visit to Kennys but will not be going back. Portion sizes small, large and regular portions look the same the fish was very thin and dry and over powered with batter.

We have visited Kenny's once before and had great meal, This time we had two fish specials Cod chips & mushy peas and tea. Decent size portions very light batter on fish. Bread and butter and a cuppa absolutely Lovely.

It's a little difficult to access with two small children, we felt a little bit of an inconvenience to one staff member, because we had a pushchair & needed a high chair (which my husband had to find for himself!) It's a big tired & grubby. My table mat had mushy peas still on it. I turned it over, as to be polite. She fetched out knifes and forks, that I cleaned again with the napkin. Then she fetched the kids... Which still had food in! Cringe! I had to ask for a clean set, she thought I wanted to swap based on colour so I had to repeat... I just want a clean set please! So which she was a little embarrassed and got me a new set. Drinks came promptly. Food came... And it was soooo yummy.So all in all ... It was ok. We have been previously, without the kids and it's been better hence the 3 stars. Otherwise based solely on today's experience... It would be a lot lower!

I have been here several times before and have had no complaints but after my last visit I will never return. The portion sizes were really small considering how expensive it was. This seems to have drastically gone downhill.

My husband laughs at me because I nearly always order scampi when we are out for a meal. I tell you this so that you will have some idea of how many times I've eaten it at restaurants. Last week I had the BEST scampi meal EVER at Kennys Fish and chips, Retford. It was cooked to perfection and full of flavour, plus the chips were beautiful. The service was excellent , we had a lady called Judy, she was lovely. A few days later I went in and had the fish and chip meal, with peas and bread and butter (inc a drink). Awesome!!!! If I was ever anywhere near Retford, I would detour, just to eat at Kennys. A hug thank you to Craig, who cooked my scampi. you are ace.

Very well run chip shop come café, Pleasant staff Fish was excellent very light batter and it was skinned, Chips well cooked and brown.This was our second visit and will call again next time in Retford. would recommend.
