Ken Ma in Wyre

Excellent food and great service. We have been visiting Ken Ma regularly for many years now and the food is consistently fresh and of a high standard. Our favourite dishes include Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings, Crispy Aromatic Duck with pancakes, Crispy Chilli Beef and Sizzling Fillet Steak in Sichuan Sauce. Highly recommended!

Phoned up for take-out and I explained that my father is gluten intolerant. Ken Ma seemed sketchy on being aware of this allergy and after I explained that gluten intolerance is an allegy to wheat, flour, barley, etc, they were cagey about whether their dishes were or were not gluten free repeatedly stating, "I am not sure." This is of course in contravention of the law after the Pret-A-Manger tragedy as cuisine providers are required to be able to give accurate allegy information regarding their offerings. No chance here and obviously we were not going to risk it and thus curtailed our plans. So no food, wasted time and a deeply unsatisfactory experience.... one star.

Great food and really lovely service. Great vegetarian options. Fantastic views of the river from the dining room. It was up for sale a while back and there was a rumour it had closed down. Thankfully it hasn’t, as it’s the best Chinese in Garstang. Deserves good business.

Lovely food, the smell is divine. My favourite place for Chinese food and very friendly staff. Lots of menu choice. Traditional decorated, lots of space.

Called in here for an early supper whilst in Garstang. It looks nothing from the outside, more of a takeaway. But once inside the welcome is friendly, the tables are simple with a lovely view out the back to the fells. All the standard Chinese dishes are represented on the menu. We soon chose and settled into a tasty Tiger Beer. The food arrived promptly, freshly cooked, well presented and very tasty. The quality of the food in this humble establishment is as good as many more expensive places. I will certainly return and try more dishes from the menu.

Visited this place for the second time this year. Very pleasant service. Food arrives quickly and cannot be faulted. Combo starter looked and tasted very good. Mains of beef chow mein and sweet and sour pork cooked to perfection. When we are in the area again we will be back.

the service was friendly and fast but that was probably the best thing about the place we had a shared platter starter which was hit and miss though the salt and chilli chicken was very good Mains of duck with cashewnut was very poor and the chips side dry it was cheap though

We ordered a large order for a group of people and everyone one of us were happy with our meal. We loved the combo starters: yummy ribs, spring rolls, chicken and seaweed. Great mains: loved the crispy chilli beef and sweet and sour chicken with a side of salt and chilly chips. We couldn’t fault their service or food, it’s disappointing others only come on here to moan. Loyal customers need to leave reviews.

Without exception the worst food ever served up to me paid for or otherwise. For such a great location next to the river and a terrace, this restaurant should be a gold mine. We arrived at 19:45 hrs. The place was deserted. Waitress pleasant. Meal was served within 3 minutes(???) Utterly inedible. The Egg Fried Rice was just yellow boiled rice - sans egg! To cap it off, it's VERY expensive compared to what's charged in Essex On the up side. If you're on a diet... Heaven! Do yourself a favour. GIVE IT A MISS!

Went with my partner and her father last week for Father’s Day as everywhere else was full . We were the only ones in this place and after eating there food I now know why . We all had a chicken dish and sadly it was the chicken that was the problem . Rubbery bland and just tasteless so sadly won’t be going back . Shame as it’s a nice place with great views .

We went in - not one person was there it was the football final one person came for a takeaway the food was tasteless and won t be returning very upsetting

Called in on spec and was the only customer for quite some time. Ordered the soup, which was enjoyable, followed by king prawn foo yung with rice and chips. Wouldn't bother with the chips again but the rest was ok. Lovely view across to the hills and castle. parking good, access fair

We’ve visited Ken Ma and ordered food to take away several times over the last 10 -15 years. Our feeing was always that it is expensive but good. Yesterday we decided to go for a meal. The starters were so bad that we joked that at least the main course must have be an improvement. It wasn’t. In the end we left without eating much at all, not because we we weren’t willing to try but because it was inedible. The steamed pork dumplings were hard and slimy and contained what looked and tasted like bland offal, with worrying black lumps in. The crispy chilli beef was caked in so much salt that it was white. The sechwan chicken must have been missing some vital ingredients for any flavour, and the chow mien was a bed of dry noodles with a strange white-ish (?!) sauce, again minus any flavour. We left pretty quickly but did try to explain to the woman in charge that we felt there must have been something unusually wrong with the food. Unfortunately she was adamant that it was our mistake and that the food was perfectly fine. So not great on the customer service either. We paid up and left feeling hungry. Will not be going back!!

So looked forward to this meal but from the deep fried crusty starter to the no crisp present in the crispy duck (mound of pre pulled moist! Duck) to the rice which had a desire to clump together. it was a total disappointment. Place is clean, staff friendly and great location over the river so why only 2 tabled on a Saturday night. WHY because the food harks back to the best of the 70's. Such a shame. GAVE a 2 because we had the meal. Would not take a lot to make it completely different.

The service was very pleasant and efficient. The food was very nice. Lovely location overlooking fields and hills. Fairly quiet for a Friday night but we do eat early at about 6:30 so may get busier as the evening goes on.

Having passed this restaurant on many occasions we thought we’d give it a go and we’re so pleased that we did. The food was fantastic and reasonably priced whilst presented in a comfortable venue with great service. We will be returning and I would recommend the restaurant if in the area and looking for an authentic Chinese meal.

The food was OK, and service was fine. It was very quiet for a Saturday night, just 3 tables occupied. I'd probably not rush to go back, but it was an OK experience

Después de mirar en el menú elegimos un banquete para los 4. La comida era deliciosa y servida y agradable camarera. No hay tanta gente en un Sábado que parecía extraño. La señora que nos recibió fue muy amable con nosotros y nos ayudaron con un número de taxis. Volvería de nuevo algún día en el futuro no se desanime por los otros comentarios pruébalo tú mismo.

En nuestras últimas vacaciones del año decidimos visitar para una comida familiar, éramos dos adultos, dos adolescentes y un niño. Al entrar notamos que el restaurante estaba totalmente vacío y cortésmente pidió una mesa para acomodar a 4 y una trona, la señora detrás del mostrador tuvo un vistazo nos dieron un enorme suspiro y técnico murmuró algo bajo su soplo dejando una camarera joven que busca la vergüenza y la sensación bastante molesto! Con esto, simplemente comentamos que nos llevaría a nuestro otro, así que siento no puedo comentar sobre la comida, pero si quieres un ambiente agradable, este no es el lugar para usted!

Elegí este hotel como estábamos en Garstang tener unos tragos y no nos decepcionó. Tenía una mesa en la ventana y el servicio era excelente, especialmente un nuevo chico que no había estado allí largo, la comida estaba caliente y muy sabroso y volvería de nuevo.

this is our local chinese to go to when we want a treat .and we always order thw same thing cantonese style sweet and sour chicken balls with chips.it is the best weve ever tasted and the service is quick.good price to so well worth a visit

Been here about 5 times every time has been very good had beef in oyster sauce sweet and sour pork egg fried rice and noodles all very well cooked and really tasty only criticism is not hot enough don't know why but always seems to be like that, place has lovely views staff very good.

We have lived in Garstang for 5 years now and walk past this restaurant all the time but have never been for a meal until last night. What has always put us off is how it always looks empty, even on a weekend. Not a good sign. But last night we wanted to celebrate and have a drink and not drive, so we thought it was time to try it. On taking our seats the first warning sign was that the beer taps at the bar are turned off and bottles of lager placed in front of them. When a restaurant does this you know they are trying to save money. The prices on those bottles of beer? £3.30 for a standard size Budweiser or similar. Not cheap, but not South prices either. The menu is standard fare with no real surprises and again not cheap - adding rice or noodles to your main course will hike your bill up pretty quick and steeply - over £3 for a portion of bean sprouts??? The food itself was ok, nothing spectacular or unpalatable, but what really disappointed us was the service. The lady who appears to be the manager has a face like an undertaker and didn't smile at us the entire time, she really looked like she didn't want to be there. But what really annoyed me was when she was serving our main courses - she brought out 3 dishes first; my wife's main and rice and my bean sprouts, but instead of then going and getting my main she went and answered the phone instead! I had to sit and wait until she had finished taking a takeaway order before she went to get my meal! I felt like going and getting it myself. What kind of owner treats their customer with such obvious disregard? Perhaps a manager who is resting on their laurels and has lost interest in providing the service that should come with their prices. Not once were we asked during starters and mains if our food was ok and we were never asked if we wanted another drink - simple basic stuff. To sum it up it was an expensive night for crappy service in a restaurant that seems to be going through the motions. We tried it, but we won't be going back.

Food is always pretty good here and you can usually get a table if you just walk in. Prices, for example £17 per person for the banquet meal. Décor is modern. Service good.

Not sure how to rate it.Food first of all - tastes lovely, we use it as a take out. Never had any problems, takes a while but that feels reassuring.Downside is the atmosphere, when you go in it feels like a funeral wake and it doesn't matter who serves you I always feel like we've inconvenienced them! That aside, as a take out is recommend, but we usually drive a 25 miles round trip to sit in for Chinese food rather than sit in the atmosphere here.

Travelled from longridge to this restaurant, the service & food is second to none, decor very plain but very clean & airy. Went as a family of 4, beautiful fresh chinese food we ordered : chicken sweet corn soup (for children) came with a filled bowl not watery at all loads of chicken, we shared salt & chilli chicken & king prawn starter followed by : special curry hot, king prawn egg foo yung, rice chips and noodles all was freshly cooked and very tasty. Would defo go back. Owner very friendly too, lovely views over looking the river, a one to be considered

an extensive menu, i had King Prawn, Scallop and Squid curry, prawns and scallops where beautiful, not overly keen on the squid, but dad said it was lovely. other mains enjoyed where chicken curry, duck in lemon sauce and sizzling steak catonese, drinks where a tad on the expensive side as everything was bottled or canned. very quiet when we went, but lots of customers coming to pick up take aways, many on first name terms with the lady behind the bar,.....definately would visit again.......

The food was ok but I believe that there are better Chinese restaurants in the area. The issue for me was that it was like eating in a cafe and not a restaurant and this is a pity as it is in a great location overlooking the river. Maybe be decent for a takeaway...

Went here for a takeaway tonight, first time I've been and will definitely be going back. The food was amazing, tasty and perfectly cooked. The restaurant look lovely and the staff were very welcoming. Excellent!!!!

Last night we thoroughly enjoyed a 50th Birthday Celebration Meal at the Ken Ma Restaurant in Garstang. Our party of 11 ordered a variety of Starters, Mains and Deserts off the expansive menu. The food arrived swiftly, was piping hot and it tasted delicious. The restaurant was clean and the staff were friendly and efficient. We've ordered many Chinese Takeaways from the Ken Ma and we've always been delighted with the quality and quantity of the food.

The restaurant is clean, plenty of room between the tables, nice white table cloths. Lovely elevated views over looking the field and the river. Pleasant staff. Plenty of choice on the menu. Starters were good. My main wasn't though, chicken with gloopy sauce. It just wasn't warm enough, and it congealed, should have possibly been brought out on a warmer to stop it from going like this. Very little taste. My partner said his meal was just OK so that isn't a ringing endorsement from him. The meat was rather tough too. Shame really. Nice place, food wasn't brilliant.

This is probably the best Chinese within the Garstang area. Truly great. The service is always very good and so is the food. A great family business.

4 of us dined. Very nice staff and very good food. We went on a Thursday and was surprised that it wasn't busier seeing that the food is so good. I can recommend the crispy chilli beef!!We'll be back again soon.

Have often meant to try as a restaurant, but ended up at hoc using as a take away on a visit back to Garstang yesterday. This food is a world away from "Chinese Takeaway" standard. Delicious, fragrant, delicate, high quality. Won ton soup was excellent, chicken Chow Mein really, visibly high quality ingredients. Really a treat, will certainly book a table for a banquet when an fully recovered (from current cancer). I am having difficulty eating at the moment as a side effect of the treatment, but this was by far enough to entice me..

Very pleasant restaurant offering very fresh and high quality food. The scallops and prawns wereperfectly cooked and presented and we felt they were the very best we have ever tasted. The dim sums and crispy duck were also outstanding.Chinese food at its very best.On every occasion we have dined the meal has always been perfection.The best Chinese we have ever dined at.

My partner and mum and myself visited the other Sunday evening and had a wonderful evening. We were staying in a Premier inn nearby and fancied a Chinese meal and we chose well. The food was delicious and all cooked well. We overlooked the canal which was nice. The owner, from Blackpool she told us, as we were off to Blackpool the next day, was lovely. I would recommend this very nice Chinese restaurant.

Very nice restaurant in a wonderful location. Went with 4 others and had the banquet. Very tasty food and good value for money, got a starter platter, crispy duck and mains which we followed up with a nice cup of coffee. Staff were friendly and welcoming and food came out at a good pace. Would definitely recommend and am already planning my next visit.

Eaten the food at the Ken Ma in Garstang a few times now, and I believe it to be the nicest 'local' Chinese food available. Tried several dishes over the previous months and each one has been cooked perfectly and tasted beautiful. Recommend the crispy beef and the chicken in black bean sauce in particular. No funny headache or that too salty taste. Fresh food cooked very well indeed.

We found service and food very good and really could not understand there was only one other couple in the restaurant on a Friday evening. We also saw someone coming in for a take-away order. If you like Chinese food then I can definitely recommend this place.

Really disappointed, food was not as good as our last visit. I don't think we will be visiting again.

On my visit to the Ken Ma, I was warmly greeted by the owner who was warm and enthusiastic about the menu. She offered some advice on dishes I was unsure of and even gave me a little knowledge of the origins. The service was prompt and the food was truly delicious. The restaurant was immaculate and the price extremely reasonable. We were warmly thanked upon leaving and, although the food was what we were there for, I was delighted by the owners courtesy, knowledge and attention to detail. If you like quality Chinese cuisine, as I do, then Ken Ma is well worth a visit

Had another delicious meal at Ken Ma on Friday evening. My partner and I love going to this restaurant as the food and the service are always excellent so we always look forward to it! Our favourite starters are the Salt & Chilli Chicken Wings and the Aromatic Crispy Duck with pancakes. The Chicken & Sweetcorn soup is also delicious and very tasty. There is a wealth of main course options including vegetarian and everything looks and tastes delicious. We never have room for dessert but I have managed the delicious banana fritters on a couple of occasions! The Manageress is always very attentive throughout and takes our food and drink orders promptly but without rushing us. It's also a busy takeaway restaurant but that never interferes with our dinner service.

It may have changed hands now, but when we visited the food was tasteless and some of it tasted manufactured, the service wasn't great and the price was unqualified! Usually give a place a second chance, but not this. We voted with our legs

Ken Ma is a lovely little oriental cuisine restaurant in Garstang the atmosphere is calming and the food is very pleasant. If you do not want to sit in to dine the restaurant provides a take out service.

We have been to ken ma numerous times and every time the food is excellent . Salt and chilli ribs are amazing, the Singapore vermicelli is a large portion of delicious noodles with chilli and prawns. The duck dishes are all so good especially duck in plum sauce The service is friendly and the prices are well worth it.

My boyfriend and I ate here last night and we got Banquet A between the two of us. It was delicious and the portions sizes were huge. Would definitely recommend it here, it was excellent.

We've been to this local restaurant many times before but this is the first time that we have been the only people in the place especially on a Friday night. The food was good but the room temperature was verging on cold. We were not under dressed for the time of year but we were conscious of the room feeling cold. The atmosphere was non existent and it wasn't helped when the manageress turned on the piped christmas music from the christmas tree!!! Service was attentive but impersonal. We'll have to wait until summer before we visit again.

The food is the usual chinese menu you would expect to find. Our young waitress was very friendly however the lady in charge was not a very happy person! She needs to smile! The place looks tired and definately is ready for a re vamp. There is a terrace at the back with fab veiws, such a shame that its been left unused and let to go to ruin, would make a lovely eating place on a nice evening.

Ate hear for my evening meal while staying near by and found the host very warm and welcoming, meal was very nice and more then edible. I must admit I have had better but im well travelled, on the whole I cannot complain with the meal or the service

We visited on 7th May. 3 couples. We chose £22 per head banqet. Combo platter starter was lovely. The Hot and Sour soup was to die for i loved it. Duck was nice but i do wish they would carve it in front of you like most chinese restaurants. We had 6 main courses and i must say apart from the deep fried chilli beef and sweet and sour chicken the remainer were bland and tasteless. Bit of a let down. This was our 2nd visit and 2nd time the main courses were not very nice. There was a very very noisy crowd in who spoiled it for us but thats not any fault of the restaurant. We will go back again, hopefully 3rd time lucky for us.

Myself and my family visited the Ken Mar the second time this year it is our local oriental restaurant, The first time we had a great experience as well as good food. This time we went this evening (Wednesday night) and we did not book it was an awful experience. Once we entered the restaurant we were greeted by a stone faced lady (manageress) who firstly asked if we had booked a table, please note that the restaurant was empty when we arrived with no reserved signs on the tables. I said no we had not booked, then the manageress said they only normally except bookings. She then asked if we had been before to the restaurant and I said yes she then disappeared in the kitchen before returning and picking up a few menus without talking to us taking us to a table. From that moment on I felt so uncomfortable during the whole meal, even though the young waitress was lovely and the food was good. May I add that during our whole dining experience only 2 other guests came into the restaurant, so I am not sure why the manageress asked if we booked and said we only except bookings so strange. As a result of this experience I will not be returning to the Ken Mar and I will certainly not recommend this restaurant, it lacks atmosphere and makes you feel very uncomfortable.I am very very disappointed.

We have visited the Ken Ma on several occasions, we holiday in Galgate and our first evening is always spent having a meal in Garstang and it is usually the Ken Ma. They are very friendly and the food is always presented nicely.We do not eat meat, but we can still find items on the menu to suit us.Well worth a visit.

Called in to Ken Ma. Last night on the off chance they did take away food, the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was amazing, I had the crispy duck and my wife had Cantonese sweet and sour and I can honestly say they were the nicest two take away meals we have ever had, will definately be going back .. Well done !
