I had one of my favourite meals ever last night, only second to Nopi. Me and my husband went for dinner on Tuesday 13th May for date night. My husband isn’t a fish eater and enjoyed his food so much he ordered another crab donut. We had the smoke trout pastrami, crab donut (x2), tikka mussels, chicken Kyiv (ordered as a safe option for my husband - it was insanely good), squid tostadas and I had two osyters with the hot sauce for my dessert. Every single bit of each plate was phenomenal. The smoked trout pastrami and the sauce the mussels were in were my favourites. The surprisingly sweet and spicy coating on the crab donut was honestly a joy to eat. Cannot recommend this place enough. I also had two bloody Mary’s and the girl that made them - THANK YOU. The best I’ve ever had, garlic vodka and lots of Worcester sauce, heavenly. All the staff were so pleasant and helpful. The easiest 5 stars and I cannot wait to go back.

I should have read the comments before I went to this restaurant.. I was wrong to believe a 4.7 score should be good however all the food there is bland and, even not very busy... I had to stand in the entrance with every staff looked at me at least twice, for 5 mins until we were seated. The squid salad is a nightmare with the main taste was the taste of pea, the langostine meat texture as if they were dead 2 days ago...

We had high hopes for Kelp given the excellent reviews, so maybe we just hit it on an off night. We ordered 3 dishes. The Tobermory Trout Reuben had an odd seasoning heavily sprinkled on it which tasted a bit like a broth cube. In fact some of it was clumped in a penny sized ball. The trout itself was nice, but unfortunately the 'powder' took away from it. The oysters were also over powered by their toppings that were heavily applied. There is a lot to be said for "less is more". The nicest dish were the mussels in the garam masala sauce. The sauce was delicious, we just wish the broth and mussels were hot. Lastly, the drinks were very plain.

This is a Scottish seafood restaurant, with small plates to share. I'd say about 2-3 plates per person hits the right spot. Since there were 4 of us, we decided to try all their market menu plates and 2 of their deserts. We expected not to like a few, but we ended up loving all of them. The food really is on point here. The cocktails were very good as well. The service was professional. The prices were good and it was refreshing to not see any ridiculous service charges - a tip well earned. Overall a great experience and we'll definitely be back.

This place is pricey but the food is excellent in every sense: creative and perfectly prepared. The range of small plates is impressive and mouth-watering. A decent selection of wines complementary the largely seafood based menu. One to which to return.

A warm welcome, friendly staff and utterly superb food. A bit like Spanish tapas, you have 4-5 small plates with a prior snack and additional sides to choose from. The portion sizes are spot on. Having small plates means that you get to taste a greater variety of dishes which I find perfect. My husband had oysters and I had scallop roe as a snack followed by sea trout (Isle of Bute sea trout is phenomenal and this was a whole other level), crab doughnut (what genius thought of that), langoustines which I will always eat when on the menu and scallops which I can honestly say were the best I've ever had in my entire life. It's clear that ingredients matter hugely here and only the top notch is good enough. That it is all sustainable is the cherry on the cake. I've not eaten seafood this good in a long time. In fact, please open a restaurant on the Isle of Bute I can think of two guaranteed customers

This is the my favourite restaurant and in my view the best restaurant in Glasgow. I have visited many times and have never had anything less than a 10/10 experience. Food is alway excellent and very high quality. Small plates means you can really have everything you want. Beautiful, modern/ traditional chic decor. Dedicated team of experienced staff. One word umami a fireworks display of epic proportion coming at you each plate unique but full on pleasure for your taste buds The food at Kelp is going to rock your taste buds, brought to you by the family team at Ardnamurchan Scottish Restaurant & Bar their hospitality. I have to start by saying I eat out for the experience, I want challenged, stimulation of my culinary taste buds. I don't want bland over priced home home so often served up by the perlifercation of chain pubs and restaurants. If you want fantastic seafood served in a friendly casual dining surroundings look no further. Our waiter tonight was great he understood his roll well being both attentive and knowledgeable but never overbearing. The prices whilst not what you might call cheap, it is really great value. It should noted given it is first class sea food cooked and served in great inviroment it can't and should not be cheap. Our hostess was kept busy meeting and greeting with a lovely smile whilst running about assisting with orders all very efficient and professional. The explosion of taste sensation will keep you coming back. Stand out dishes for us were the Hebradian Squid which arrived first and the Ghia Halibut both out standing. We also had very fresh langoustines, Crab donut in the most delicious sauce. Sides we ordered fries and samphire slaw, fries were the only item not worthy of note not bad but just fries. Our deserts also hit some real tasty notes including a very trendy Sea-buckthorn tart auwsome. Another nice touch not being gouged for an lovely espresso only £2.20 All in all 9.5 out of 10 for very good value and extremely tasty meal.

We just had a lovely dinner here tonight. The food was excellent 10/10. Very fresh seafood, so delicious. First of all, the oysters were so good, we tried with different sauce. The crab pancake was so delicate comes with amazing sauce. Langoustines were the best, perfect. Clams and mussels are my favorite and they were the best I have ever had in Scotland. The atmosphere is great, nice place for family dinner/couples. Customer service was amazing, we were only waiting for a few minutes for the clams we ordered but it came very quickly and she told us it’s on the house, which we didn’t expect. We would still happily pay for this quality food and service. It’s our first time here but we would surely come back again very soon.

Having been to Ardnamurchan a couple of times and loved it, we went to Kelp and tried the seasonal Christmas market menu. We had the smoked trout, the coley, the mussels and the artichoke tarte tatin, with sides of nduja sprouts and seaweed roast potatoes. My husband also ordered oysters with a selection of sauces and said they were delicious. I tried the seaweed hot sauce and it was beautiful. The mussel broth was so tasty we had to order bread to soak it all up (which came with divine seaweed butter). Our favourites were the trout, the coley and the mussels, all dishes were decent portions, we both had the recommended 2 dishes, 1 side and a dessert each. This with 3 drinks, the bread and 4 oysters came to just over £100. The waiting staff were very friendly and attentive and even brought my dessert with a candle (thankfully did not sing!) My only real criticism was that the tarte tatin was much sweeter than expected for a main course, I would have expected the blue cheese element to cut through the sweetness more, and the spiced pear element did leave it feeling more like a dessert. Saying that it was all still delicious and we definitely plan to come again to sample the next seasonal menu post-Christmas.

The food is really outstanding... The portions are a bit on the small side. But you are well warned from the service. One tiny issue is that the dishes are brought out whenever... so if you are in a group... plates are served at different times. So some people start eating and others just have to wait... the quality is very good.. You can also taste the freshness.. Main courses great... deserts great too... Ambience ok... there is a very nice area outside.. but winter wise could be unforgiving... I did not see heaters... Slightly on the pricey side... but definitely you pay for the high quality...

This restaurant makes a fantastic framing of what is possible with scottish produce but at the price of a pub meal elsewhere. The dishes are creative, well presented and very well thought out. Flavor profiles match well and the concept of small plate menus, tapas style of you like, allows you to taste a variety of the sea food which you may not necessarily order. It allows the chef to be experimental with frequently changing dishes and lets the clientel be experimental. And it works. I had barra scallops and shetland coley with a pea veloutte along with roast new potatoes with a seaweed mayonaise. I was very impressed with the flavors and the the presentation and even more impressed with the bill which as i say was less than pub grub in many places. Well done to the owners and chef and also tonthe very attentive and friendly waiting staff!

This is a seafood restaurant with no main course. It is very plain, but the food is surprisingly solid. After one meal, I feel full but not full. 6 raw oysters, 2 scallops, and 1 pollock. I asked the waiter if this was too much or too little. She smiled and said, basically it was enough. If you have other activities on Friday night, you can order more later. An anniversary dinner booked for 5pm. Our visit was spoiled from the get go. We had a small wooden square table for 2 with no linen . We knew immediately it was far too small and we asked to be moved . Staff said that it was not possible .. . By the time the water bottle, glasses , wine bottle and glasses there was no room for our food . It came out with large gaps time wise . There was little room for two plates .. Our intentions to share together never happened. In fact this made our meal a really disappointing experience. The couple beside us had a round table with linen table cloth. Their food was served all together .. They had left before all our food was served We were so looking forward to our meal .. The food itself was lovely but the dining arrangement let it down very badly . We would only use the restaurant again if the table arrangement could be altered . Such a shame , schoolboy error ..

This was our first visit to Kelp and we thoroughly enjoyed the menu. I'm a fan of the sharing plate idea and this was ideal. A couple of Green Goddess Martinis started our meal, accompanying the delicious whipped smoked scallop roe dip with homemade crisps. A plate of scallops with hazelnut butter followed plus a spicy but terribly addictive crab doughnut and a perfect fillet of coley surrounded by a superb shellfish sauce and a tangle of sea vegetables. We only added a side of crispy Koffmann fries meaning we just had room for dessert- a fabulous banana parfait and a slice of burnt Basque cheesecake. Service was great, friendly and helpful and the bill was under £90 for the two of us which I thought was excellent value given the quality of produce and the standard of cooking. Definitely worth a return visit!

Average. Some good dishes some not. Deserts and scallops a real disappointment. Crab and squid good. Service was great - esp Kevin.

The receptionist was extremely rude. We arrived before the kitchen’s closing time according to Google Maps, which said it was open until midnight. However, when we walked in, the receptionist just stood there with her hands on her hips, staring at us without saying a word. It was an incredibly uncomfortable experience and left a very bad impression.

Great chip shop. Lovely lightly battered fish and tasty chips. Great, friendly service and freshly cooked when ordered. …. Had to try a battered Mars Bar as well

Sorry but this is not Spanish tapas. We were served “patatas bravas” which were basically Aunt Bessie’s roasters with a dip on the side. Gambas Pil Pil consisted of three prawns, staff didn’t really engage and didn’t seem to understand the menu. On top of that we were charged £8 for some bread on oil. Wouldn’t recommend

Finally found the best fish & chips here in Glasgow. Hard to say after searching for ages. You will also understand that Merchant Chippie’s probably the healthiest of them all. (You’ll understand once you visit the place and eat). The curry sauce absolute banger! And yea their strawberry tart is really amazing. The chips tastes nice and soft! Highly recommended, any day if you’re in Glasgow! 💯
