Nice place, although food was nice the small 'tapas' type dishes were pretty expensive, glad I've tried it but it's probably a place to go to for a really special occasion

We tried the market menu for lunch. The place was empty when we went, so the service was very fast. The employees were very knowledgeable about the menu and were very helpful when ordering. We experienced incredible flavors and the quality of the ingredients was quite high, and the prices were quite reasonable within the lunch menu. However, the dishes were a bit salty. If you have a salt sensitivity, definitely ask the employees. I definitely recommend it to everyone. Thank you.🙏🏻

The food is really outstanding... The portions are a bit on the small side. But you are well warned from the service. One tiny issue is that the dishes are brought out whenever... so if you are in a group... plates are served at different times. So some people start eating and others just have to wait... the quality is very good.. You can also taste the freshness.. Main courses great... deserts great too... Ambience ok... there is a very nice area outside.. but winter wise could be unforgiving... I did not see heaters... Slightly on the pricey side... but definitely you pay for the high quality...

Had the market menu and oysters. Food was exceptional for the price. Had a glass of the Portuguese white, it was excellent too. The food comes when ready, so the serving is a bit random such as getting the slaw my perceived end of the meal. I really liked the whole experience and a great place to show off Glasgow's ability to produce great seafood restaurants. Well done!

Amazing dining experience! Far and away our favorite meal in Scotland. Service was phenomenal & every plate, perfection. The mussels was an inspired delight. For a mussel enthusiast like myself it was a real treat. The only note is that the acoustics of the space made the room a bit noisy, but it was a packed Friday night so it may not be an issue on other nights.

A really varied and interesting selection of small plates, all served incredibly well and freshly. Particular highlights were the sardine Bolognese pizzeta and the crab doughnut (odd, but delightful mix of flavours, from sugary sweetness to chilli). Sides (especially the fries) and drinks were all excellent too. Excellent friendly (and unhurried, but not slow) service. Well worth a visit.

The food was amazing! The crab doughnut is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten, having said that the rest of the food was very delicious too! Unfortunately though the service felt very rushed. We ordered a cocktail each as an aperitif and before we had even finished them there were three plates of food on the table going cold. I don’t know why the service was so rushed but I felt uncomfortable and pushed to finish my food ASAP which didn’t make for a great experience overall. Food was great though!

An innovative menu , nicely executed, we ordered 3 set Market menu , all dishes were of good portion, although the Tobermory smoked Trout was a bit too spicy for us , the quality of it is good . It’s a pity that the Scallops today was different from the menu , the chicken broth finish was a bit too salty . The Coley was a bit tough but the Pea Veloute & mint Fricassee elevated the flavour of the fish to another level! All & all a very pleasant & enjoyable dining experience, looking forward to other seasonal menus!

This restaurant makes a fantastic framing of what is possible with scottish produce but at the price of a pub meal elsewhere. The dishes are creative, well presented and very well thought out. Flavor profiles match well and the concept of small plate menus, tapas style of you like, allows you to taste a variety of the sea food which you may not necessarily order. It allows the chef to be experimental with frequently changing dishes and lets the clientel be experimental. And it works. I had barra scallops and shetland coley with a pea veloutte along with roast new potatoes with a seaweed mayonaise. I was very impressed with the flavors and the the presentation and even more impressed with the bill which as i say was less than pub grub in many places. Well done to the owners and chef and also tonthe very attentive and friendly waiting staff!

This is a seafood restaurant with no main course. It is very plain, but the food is surprisingly solid. After one meal, I feel full but not full. 6 raw oysters, 2 scallops, and 1 pollock. I asked the waiter if this was too much or too little. She smiled and said, basically it was enough. If you have other activities on Friday night, you can order more later. There is room to add some space. So honest, thank you very much. The first meal in Glasgow, a city famous for seafood, indeed has a unique way of hospitality.

An anniversary dinner booked for 5pm. Our visit was spoiled from the get go. We had a small wooden square table for 2 with no linen . We knew immediately it was far too small and we asked to be moved . Staff said that it was not possible .. . By the time the water bottle, glasses , wine bottle and glasses there was no room for our food . It came out with large gaps time wise . There was little room for two plates .. Our intentions to share together never happened. In fact this made our meal a really disappointing experience. The couple beside us had a round table with linen table cloth. Their food was served all together .. They had left before all our food was served We were so looking forward to our meal .. The food itself was lovely but the dining arrangement let it down very badly . We would only use the restaurant again if the table arrangement could be altered . Such a shame , schoolboy error ..

This was our first visit to Kelp and we thoroughly enjoyed the menu. I'm a fan of the sharing plate idea and this was ideal. A couple of Green Goddess Martinis started our meal, accompanying the delicious whipped smoked scallop roe dip with homemade crisps. A plate of scallops with hazelnut butter followed plus a spicy but terribly addictive crab doughnut and a perfect fillet of coley surrounded by a superb shellfish sauce and a tangle of sea vegetables. We only added a side of crispy Koffmann fries meaning we just had room for dessert- a fabulous banana parfait and a slice of burnt Basque cheesecake. Service was great, friendly and helpful and the bill was under £90 for the two of us which I thought was excellent value given the quality of produce and the standard of cooking. Definitely worth a return visit!

The restaurant atmosphere is great. Definitely recommend to go there for drinks. Our experience of staff was mixed, one gentleman who met us at the door and spoke to us at points throughout the night was fantastic. He helped us with the menu and some of the food service. The other servers were quite vacant, they would dump food on the edge of the table then run as fast as they could whilst we had no plates or cutlery and empty drinks... also the food comes out one at a time so knowing what the plates were would have been nice. I think any review for this restaurant should come in the context of each plate costing between £11-£17 and they recommend 2-3 plates per person. The food was pretty bad to be honest. We were told they had a new chef so it's probably a temporary criticism. There were moments of greatness in the food though. But on the whole it was not pleasant. For example parts were just bland. Or the oysters, absolutely smothered in topping so all you could taste was the topping and 2/3 toppings were not to our taste. On alot of the plates they had a lime reduction which tasted very strongly and since they were extremely generous with it it ruined the rest of the flavours on the plate. Anyway, we had a good time. The drinks were very nice. We enjoyed the potato churros and some of the parts of some plates. The atmosphere of the restaurant was excellent. I don't think the prices of the food reflect the taste nor the service we received.

The wine was nice, the prices didn’t reflect the food quality and the service was a little odd. I found it weird that they had “crispy roasted baby potatoes” on the menu but it was just entire boiled potatoes that were too undercooked to eat. The waiter was very nice but very intense and it was difficult to get a word in and he kept finishing our sentences which was a bit unnerving. It was our anniversary so after the very quick service and just ok food we wanted to sit and enjoy our wine but we were brought the bill without asking, despite our reservation saying we had the table till 9. I see a lot of people very excited about the crab doughnut but a literal sweet deepfried doughnut full of crab that was also somehow very spicy wasn’t exactly what I expected. Overall I think the reviews and the prices got my hopes up, basically fine but if you’re not overly monied there are definitely better options.

Until tonight, previous visits to Kelp had been fantastic. This time, we took our table for our 6:30 reservation and watched staff run around with glasses and plates yet somehow failed to deliver food and drinks to diners. I’ve never seen as many customers raising their hands heavenwards — confused by unfilled orders. Waitstaff was confused going back and forth empty handed. No explanations. The “senior” waitress seemed to be the source of the problems. After 20 minutes, a young waitperson wondered about drinks but would not be taking a food order for awhile. We left and walked to Cafe Andaluz which was packed — they accommodated us. No rez? No problem! Excellent service with no drama and positive energy. Sorry to say Kelp has amazing food but can’t handle above average traffic

Have not been in this restaurant since the previous ownership, but we popped in for lunch when we were in town, and we were so glad we did. I’m not one for superlatives, but the three dishes we had - the smoked trout, the halibut and the mackerel - were absolutely exceptional. Beautiful flavours on every plate, which enhanced rather than fought with the flavours of the fish. Everything cooked to perfection, and presented beautifully, with warm friendly service from the waiting staff. A lot of restaurants in Glasgow have a very high opinion of themselves, which isn’t really warranted, but Kelp get all the important things right, and it is a lovely space to eat in too. From the moment my wife and I walked into Kelp in Glasgow, we were greeted with the kind of warm welcome that instantly makes you feel at home. It's a cozy little place, buzzing with the energy of happy diners and the alluring scent of the sea that promised an exciting culinary adventure ahead. The concept of small plates was perfect for us; we got to try a bit of everything without having to commit to a single dish. And oh, the dishes! Each plate was a revelation, showcasing the freshest seafood with a creative twist that left us eagerly anticipating the next. The seared scallops were a standout, melting in your mouth with a delicate sweetness, perfectly complemented by a zesty sauce that we couldn’t get enough of. The grilled octopus was another hit, tender and flavorful, leaving us marveling at how simple ingredients could be transformed into something so delightful. But what truly made our evening at Kelp memorable was the staff. They were more than just attentive; they were genuinely friendly, sharing stories about the dishes, offering recommendations with a smile, and making sure our glasses were never empty. It felt like dining among friends who were as passionate about great food as we were. Leaving Kelp, we couldn’t stop talking about the incredible food and the even more incredible service. It wasn’t just a meal; it was an experience, one that we’re already planning to repeat. If you’re in Glasgow and looking for an exceptional seafood adventure, Kelp is the place to be. Service was fantastic, welcoming with a lovely atmosphere too. Would highly recommend & will return soon. Best wishes all at Kelp.

From the moment we walked through the door we were looked after! Seating is pretty basic but the staff were lovely! We opted for fish and chip supper plus a smaller OAP version. The plate came with a cold drink and tea - fish and chip supper would not be complete without a chip butty. The mushy peas were perhaps warm versus hot. I saw they offered deep fried ice cream - so we had a go - there is a first time for everything. (Not on the weight watchers menu) The menu also offered other non fish and chip food like pizza , chicken and burgers in addition to a full drinks option. For those who struggle with stairs there is a lift. Toilets were clean. I have to emphasise the willingness of the staff to please - a real treat. We would certainly visit again.
