Lovely inside with the beams. Great value lunchtime special with soup and a sandwich for £7.50. Saw the scones with jam, butter and a generous portion of real clotted cream for £3.00 and returned in the afternoon. The tea is nice as well.

Had an absolutely lovely breakfast today. Everything was hot, the tea was proper leaf with with an additional pot of hot water. The staff were attentive, and orange juice was so refreshing. Couldn't fault it. To the owner :- get a big sign out in the morning advertising your breakfasts, we wondered up and down til we actually saw someone eating a breakfast through the window. Just a lovely tea room. Thank you.

Me and my family have been to this cafe several times and we’ve had a good experience, lovely food and friendly staff. But recently me and my dad went and came away disappointed. They didn’t have what I first ordered so eventually went for the vegan breakfast, which was just average, the plate was swimming with baked beans and I’ve never seen mushrooms like them which was such a shame since they’re one of my favourite items on a breakfast- such a dark colour, small and wrinkly. My dad ordered the Cajun chicken which he said was on the dry side and the salad could have done with some sort of dressing. Although the staff were lovely no one checked up on us during our meal even though the place was quiet. We did say the mushrooms weren’t good at the end and got an apology. Hopefully this was just a one off

We liked the look of this quaint tea rooms as we walked by looking for a place to eat breakfast. We received a warm welcome and they were happy to create an item of food that was not on the menu, all you need to do is ask. The food was presented well and tasted nice, we were never rushed and the price was reasonable, would definitely recommend.

We had been here before and decided to stop for lunch. First impressions were good, we were shown straight to a table which was cleared for us and the order was taken promptly. After that it was very poor. We had only ordered one drink - a glass of tap water - which took about 10 minutes to arrive. We waited for our food...and waited. At one point a member of staff checked if we were waiting for drinks/food and we said food. After 3 people who ordered before us had been served theirs (by now it was about 25 minutes since ordering) we asked where our food was and were told the member of staff would check. No one came back to us. When the people at the table next to us (who came in and ordered well after us) were served their food we decided to give up and cancel our food. There was no apology and no updates during all our time of waiting. Really disappointing and we won't return when in Chester.

Katie's is located in an historical building with interesting architecture. It spans several floors so there is more room inside than there first seems. The food was nice enough but nothing special. The Chester blend tea was nice though. Overall it was a pleasant enough experience.

Place full of character from the 14th Century. Club sandwiches were ok but were served on bread instead of being toasted and without egg. They were served either crisps (a little stale) and salad. However, was a generous portion but a little pricey at £9.95. Service was excellent. Staff were very friendly and polite.

Maybe I rate this low because my expectations were so high after reading other reviews. The ground floor looks nice however as you go to the higher floors, you can see that the place needs a deep clean. Lots of dust and extremely old carpets which could also do with a clean. The food was below average. Not awful but definitely not as good as something that you could make at home. The cafetiere coffee was not nice. The toilets are quite far away, not an issue as this is the nature of these old buildings but it is something to bear in mind if you are with children. There are some odd trinkets and bric-a-brac for sale in one of the rooms which you pass through to get to the toilets. I'm not sure why as it doesn't add anything positive to the overall experience. My bottom line with all places is "would I visit again?", sadly not as I really wanted this to be my go-to café.

I’m not one for afternoon tea, but Katie’s blew my mind in terms of portion size, speed of service and quality of food. We legit struggled to finish our afternoon tea and that’s saying something, but I like to think you need the calories ascend the 28484949 steps needed to get to the toilet as that building is shockingly huge! You just don’t realise how big those old townhouses are until you’re navigating them trying to find somewhere to spend a penny. In future maybe I’ll starve myself the day before the next visit so I can have a chance of not taking stuff home in a doggy bag.

My wife received a Voucher for her Birthday that our son had purchased online 'bubbly high tea'. Process really easy and booked by telephone for 3 weeks time on her actual birthday. Staff were really friendly and attentive. The voucher allowed us to have in total 2 glasses of proseco, 6 sandwiches, 2 cakes, 2 large scones with pot of jam and cream, followed by selections of Tea or Coffee. Everything we ate was perfect and my Brazilian coffee was best I have ever tasted. Best part was we didn't pay anything as gift voucher covered everything. We were so full we had to walk around Chester walls and didn't eat again all day. Definately will go there again and try their breakfast when visiting Chester in the future.

I'd booked for vegan afternoon tea here for two. On arrival we were greeted by a lovely young male member of staff who was very polite and informative of what was going on and what we needed to choose on the menu ourselves. First, the tea came over. Little disappointed it was in two little metal style teapots instead of a proper teapot. The handle on these were so hot being metal that my friend burnt herself pouring it. I think we got two cups of tea out of these each. I was probably expecting a bit more tea than that for the price...bearing in mind how small the cups were as well. The sugar were sachets like in a b&b rather than cubes. The waitress brought our milk over. She said the square jug was oat milk...I smelt the other jug of milk and had to call her back asking what it was? She informed me it was normal cows milk. I said we didnt need that as it was obviously vegan afternoon tea?? She looked at me a bit weird...This shouldve never happened. Luckily I smelt it first and have no allergies. The food arrived....sandwiches very mediocre. Basically two slices of bread each cut into 3 finger little sandwiches. The cheese one was impossible to eat...just completely fell out the sandwich. The scone was fine..nothing amazing but okay. What was strange was they asked if we wanted to wait for our cream as it will melt. Turns out it was just vegan squirty cream in a small dish? This really disappointed me, as for the price you are paying a better alternative could've been used. For example oatly cream which could be whipped...there are so many better vegan cream options. But, to top it off...the choc fudge cake was absolutely horrendous!! Vegan afternoon tea has to be booked in advance...so when you do that I dont expect to get a slice of cake this stale and solid!! It was literally like knocking on a brick wall!! Worst cake I have ever had and wouldve expected the cake to have been fresh in that morning to be honest. £33 quid spent on the worst afternoon tea I could probably imagine and was clearly done on a budget at least a 1/3 of that. Safe to say I wont be going here or recommending it to anyone else. Certainly a let down for someones Birthday. I had to apologise!

We called in today for some food at lunchtime. I ordered an all day breakfast but when it arrived it was very oily to say the least requiring me to mop some of the oil up with my napkin. I was unable to finish the...

I'd never been to Chester before and eyeballed Katie's, it's brilliant in there! Hubby and I were seated in the old store room from where the grain etc. was held hundreds of years before. I had the veggie Full English Breakfast and a lemonade. It's...

Went here for a nice little coffee. Was served by a youngster called Dylan who dropped it all over the table. What a silly sausage. The cafe itself stunk, the surrounding houses smelled of sewage. The north of puddington smells worse than the south. It's really not worth the pain. Stay well away

We have eaten here a few times now with our little dog, staff very friendly, there are obvious signs about the parking with a tablet at the bar to enter your reg number, the pin is displayed next to this. Good range of food quickly served, twice when we came they were recovering from disastrous floods so the menu was slightly limited, the food was still good though. Lovely setting to sit out by the river and regular entertainment at weekends. Keep it up Red Lion!

Stumbled on this cafe during a weekend in Chester. Great coffee and cakes very reasonably priced. Couldn't understand why people were passing it by to go to Costa in the Tesco next door.

Lovely coffee and hot chocolate. Staff very friendly and polite. I always prefer the coffee in Starbucks to Costa coffee just a personal preference.

My visit was for a lunch with friends. The pub was their local, not one they frequented but it was convenient. It was a memorable visit for all the right reasons. I was welcomed at the bar with smiles and I explained that one of my party had allergies. The checking of the ingredients was really thorough, the food came and it was hot, fresh and delicious. I appreciated all the effort that went in to ensure we had a great time and felt safe. Totally worthy of recommendation and repeat visits.
