Karamay Western China Cuisine in Leicester

An amazing restaurant! Super friendly staff and excellent food. I would highly recommend their handmade noodles and steamed dumplings. My cousin Hassaan eats HMC only and its safe to say he was bouncing with joy!

I travelled from Birmingham with my cousins and this was the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. Its HMC so rest assured, its halal which is the main reason I came here. One of my cousins, raihan is a picky eater but even he enjoyed the steam dumplings/lamb skewers and handmade noodles.

Karamay Leicester is truly a gem! As a vegetarian, I was blown away by the garlicky broccoli and Chinese mushrooms, which were absolutely delicious. The tofu was to die for, and the Karamay special chips were really well-flavored. Everyone in my group enjoyed the chicken dishes as well. All food was freshly made using the finest quality of ingredients and the service was world class Overall, I can confidently say it's one of the best Chinese restaurants in Leicester!

It’s the best high quality Chinese I’ve had… & the hand pulled noodles are exceptional. Vegetable dishes too are excellent. Good portion size, and is absolutely all cooked fresh.

Such good food with really lovely and helpful staff . Was our first time having Uyghur food and we asked for recommendations and they were all delicious the noodles are to die for so nice and chewy definitely recommend getting the chefs special noodles. Food and atmosphere were so perfect forgot to take pics 😅😅

If you’re in the area I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The staff are very friendly and will explain the dishes which you may or may not have come across before. The hand made noodles are hearty and exactly what you need on a cold wet day. Everything is well cooked and tasty. I would definitely come back.

Zero customer service!! Staff is so rude and they have horrible attitude!!! We went there yesterday, all the way from Bham . Waited 10 mins to be seated and ended up being refused to have any table as they said they are fully booked!! The way they spoke and dealt with us was extremely bad , I would never go back again and I would never recommend this place. Been here once before! Average food and overpriced!!!! Totally horrible customer service!!!!! They litterly have zero manners!

A very distinctive Xinjiang restaurant, the taste is heavier and stronger than that of ordinary Chinese restaurants. Recommended dishes include roasted lamb on skewers and steamed buns. In addition, the Xinjiang salty milk tea is worth a try.

I found the food very salty. The waiter was helpful. He tried to rectify this, but it was still too salty for me. I tried everything we ordered and found all very salty. The service was good.

I can bet that this is best homemade noodles you can ever try in the UK. The dumplings are great too. I have always had take-outs, and the service has been excellent. I would love to try dining in; the dine-in area seems spacious. All halal.

I ordered beef strips, egg-fried rice and lamb chops. The lamb chops didn’t arrive at all. While the beef strips were nice (though nothing special), the size of the portion of rice was on the smaller side. What has happened to good customer service? When you spend £40, you expect what you’ve ordered or, at least, an apology and some form of recompense for the failure, which most reasonable people (like me) accept happens, from time to time. Although, the last time I ordered from here, I was also disappointed with their very dry ‘Uyghur samsa’. Disappoint me once, shame on Karamay; disappoint me twice, shame on me! There won’t ever be a third order from me.

I have to say, this has been an incredibly enjoyable experience. The service has been impeccable, and the food has been second to none. We really enjoyed the evening and the service from the staff really put the icing on the cake. We went for a range of dishes as our group was made up of 12. Everyone has really enjoyed their experience... well done!

Delicious food with very friendly and helpful staff. My wife really enjoyed her recommendations for her gluten-free diet (cumin beef), and my parents really enjoyed the sweetcorn soup and chilli prawns. My daughter loved her steamed beef dumplings. Basically, something for everyone!

Excellent food and friendly service.

The Xinjiang restaurant provides excellent service and offers a pleasant dining experience. However, some dishes may be a bit salty for those accustomed to southern cuisine. The noodles in the “Big Plate Chicken” are particularly delicious, with great texture and flavor, but the portion sizes are relatively small. It’s a good choice for those who prefer stronger flavors and enjoy trying unique dishes.

Food came very quickly. Atmosphere was calm and relaxing. We were impressed by the variety of veg/vegan options. We had a hand pulled noodle dish which they were very happy to adapt by using tofu instead of meat. If you're interested in an authentic, new food experience this is the place for you!!!

Absolutely fantastic restaurant. We went here on Eid and the servers/ owner were so sweet. Very fast service. The noodles and dumplings were my favourite along with the pomegranate juice. A rare gem

The BEST Chinese Muslim restaurant in Leicester. I have been to China and the quality of food at Karamay is up to par. My personal favourites are the deep fried chili chicken/prawns, fried noodles, Mapo tofu and garlic green beans. No joke I eat here almost once a week. Will definitely miss this place when I graduate and leave Leicester. Big thank you to Mr. Shabbir and the rest of the staff for their kind service.

Everything elas is good except food, the noodle was raw, and a fry chicken took half hour to cook I don't understand how, it tastes nothing special just normal deep fry chicken cooked half hour and kinda expensive. Imagine spend 15 pounds to eat chicken nuggets

Always a pleasure dining at Karamay. Easy to book or walk in and always welcoming. The food is authentic and definitely tastes authentic to the the Uyghur cuisine. The manager looked after us and even provided us a place to pray. Always a pleasant experience. The KungPao Chicken with Peanuts (I don’t usually like peanuts but it definitely works well) and hand pulled noodles with beef alongside the hot and sour soup with the special chips went down a treat

I was looking forward to dining here but when the food arrived it was awful. The fried rice tasted awful the handmade noodles were like cardboard. All the dishes were awful. Either I don’t like western Chinese food or the food was really bad. My family and I won’t be going there again.

The mutton skewers and special noodles are particularly delicious, and the Xinjiang fried rice noodles are better than those eaten in China. I go there often with friends. The portions are generous and delicious.

Nice atmosphere. Good setup. I ordered prawn Chow main and couple of more dishes. There was no prawn to be found in the serving of prawn Chow main. It should have been called only chow main not prawn Chow main. As a side dish being £10 just for hand full of greasy noodles is a bit too much. No side plates or spoons was given to us which is a very basic things you do as a big restaurant, we had to ask for them. Drinks were served without glasses and ice. Also service was not attentive at all. I will rate service to be 1 our of 5. I am very big fan of Chinese food and I tried Chinese food in almost every big city in UK so when it comes to taste, I will give it 2 out of 5. Definitely not somewhere I would want to go back. Very pricey for what it is. Which reflected in seeing the restaurant being completely dead. I would certainly not call it authentic Chinese food.

First time trying Uyghur cuisine and wasn’t disappointed. Welcoming staff and great food. We ordered different dishes which were good portion sizes and flavoursome.

1. A waiter served 5-6 tables in the lobby, and it took 20 minutes to wait for the order to be served. 2. The beef with black pepper beef was really old. 3. The portion of meat in the naan bun was half of the previous one, which made me suspect that it had been changed. The boss still changed the chef 4. The taste is still as good as ever, very delicious! But the price/performance ratio is too small.

The brother who served us was very polite and the food was served quickly. Good experience trying Uyghur cuisine. In my opinion the dishes I ordered were just above room temperature, when I enquired I was explained that pulled noodles had to be put in cold water so they don't stick however if you want more warm or hot in temperature do let them know and any sauce base dishes they'll take care of. Seating and interior were good.

The noodles are amazing, perfect texture. Chips are delicious. Great food. This is a cute place for a casual date night or dinner with friends. The waiters were distracted and difficult to pin down but friendly when you did manage to speak to them.

I went out to Karamay for the first time for my birthday lunch. The lady serving us was so lovely, she placed birthday decorations around our table and was so helpful in deciding what to eat. The portions were generous and filling and everything was delicious! I really recommend Karamay.

Had to visit twice in one week, amazing food. Hands down the best fried chicken (better than the likes of Oodles & An Najeeb) 100% don't knock it till you try it! Friendly customer service too.

The atmosphere was so lovely and the staff were very friendly and welcoming! They explained each of the dishes clearly and helped us a lot. We got the sharing chicken stew which could feed 3-4 it was massive and really yummy! The hand pulled noodles were amazing and all made in house. The lamb skewers were very tender and I would really recommend. The mapo tofu was very flavourful with a nice spicy kick to it, it was still good when we had it at home the next day! We were a group of 5 and had vegetarian/ vegan dietary requirements and allergy to seasme. Tina was a lovely and bubbly host who was excellent at making sure all of the food was prepared to specification. The dishes came very quickly, well priced, were presented nicely and were well balanced in terms of flavour and heat (spice), hats off to the chef!! We ordered: Veg dumpling (boiled) Vegetable Noodles chowmein without seasme Bamboo rice Stir fried green beans with dried chilli Kungpo tofu with peanut sauce Salt and pepper tofu Plain Rice The ambience of the restaraunt was peaceful with soft music in the background. The decor was exquisite, rooted in tradition and culture with hand woven tapestry. Tina very kindly shared her knowledge of the various teas and flavour palletes and consistently made sure the pot of tea was full and flowing throughout the evening. Would recommend and will be going again! Thank you Tina and team!

Great food and fair portions. I think the prices are slightly too high, I feel like the whole menu could come down 10% in price and they would attract many more people. Inside was nice, the TV was far too loud though which was corrected upon asking. I would go back but there are cheaper alternatives elsewhere.

I have always wanted to come here ever since I arrived here in September. And I’m so glad I did! These were the best beef noodles I’ve ever had in my life! The beef was tender and the noodles were perfectly cooked. The food was so fresh and I didn’t feel heavy after eating it. Absolutely amazing and I will be back!

The waiter recommended a spicy beef dish but when it arrived it contained around 50 chillies and not a lot of beef. I like spicy food but this was almost inedible. The waiting staff were not particularly attentive so the service wasn’t great either.

This is a relatively authentic Xinjiang dish that I ate in the UK. The large plate of chicken is very generous. It is recommended not to order too much and waste it, especially when there are many girls, they will not be able to finish it. recommend!

The food was absolutely delicious, with each dish surpassing our expectations – the quality and taste were top-notch, making it excellent value for money. What truly stood out was the service; the staff were incredibly friendly and considerate, adding a personal touch to our visit. Despite the rainy weather and it being New Year’s Eve, we made the long journey, arriving right at opening time. It was undoubtedly worth the trip. Their warm welcome and exceptional service made our celebration even more special. I’m eagerly looking forward to returning to this wonderful place!

Been looking forward to coming here as I'd heard they make their own noodles. Despite that, was lured into bao buns, gizzard skewers and their lamb casserole; the latter almost had a Sunday dinner vibe about it. All were very good indeed. Service was excellent and most tables full. It is well worth coming here to taste a different quite mellow and flavoursome type of cooking from the region. Will be back for the Uighur noodles! Absolutely loved the food, was looking for a chinese for so long and I'm so happy that I found this place, and also the manager Mr Shabbir he's such a wonderful person talked us through what to order and also had a nice chit-chat after the food 😊

First time ordering from here and I can not understand why I am the only one thinking it is the worst Chinese I have ever eaten. So Bland , watery , prices on the high side. It cost me 37 for 2 people. I chose this restaurant as the great reviews and the excellent cleanliness report. But everything tasted so wrong! The lamb skewers did not taste like lamb at all. Weird texture and taste, prawn chow main did not taste like any i have tasted wasn’t even the correct colour. It’s like it had water and chilli on it with lots of onions also not many prawns and The chilli chicken also tasted so weird ! Maybe this is just a different kind of Chinese restaurant and my understanding and expectations had not been met at all. It’s also not sitting well as my stomach feels horrible. 😩

The chef's special goyru leghman was fantastic (I absolutely recommend), my date also enjoyed the dumplings. The grilled lamb skewers also tasted nice and I'd recommend the red iced tea over the green. Amazing place and delicious food overall.

The food here is excellent overall. Loved the chicken rice, they're one of the best I've tried in the UK. Egg fried rice were a bit disappointing (too bland). The sweet and sour chicken was nicely cooked. Portion sizes are very generous, we couldn't finish everything and prices aren't too high either. Good value for money. Only negative is that it seemed understaffed, only one guy was taking orders, bringing food, managing registers and payments etc. so the service wasn't that good

Went here for lunch and the food was amazing! Every dish I tried was delicious, I've never been so impressed by a restaurant! We had the deep fried chilli chicken, hot and sour soup, lamb skewers and leghman noodle dish, and finished off with rose tea- everything was so good and I can't wait to go back again!

Excellent food. Didn't realise how spicy the Uyghur food was, they use a lot of red chillies, so come prepared! Hand pulled noodles (chef's special), Rice (Uyghur Pilaf), KungPo Chicken, Dumplings, Wings and Lamb Skewers were stand out dishes. Halal food.

Nice place to eat with family and friends. Very warm and homely atmosphere with "proper" food compared to burgers/chips/steaks etc. Portions sizes for mains are good, very filling and tasty. Service could be improved at times when it gets busy but generally okay. Would recommend handpulled Noodles, fried dumplings, rice dishes, stews.

Way too overpriced for the quality of food served. Not a lot of spicy dishes even though the dishes are marked with two chillies to indicate heat levels.
