Call in with my family for lunch. We all had food and enjoyed it so much. The meals were served piping hot and the meals were of a large size. Good quality and very tasty

Based on the High street in Lydney we called into this venue for lunch. The place has a very good menu with many things to choose from sandwiches to steaks. The service was good also, very good value for money and well priced

Popped in for a Sunday lunch (and a cooked breakfast for my toddler). Free car park behind the bistro, sat down straight away. Food was so tasty, nice quality and perfectly cooked. I had the Turkey and my husband had the pork, both really good. Would definitely recommend to anyone who’s looking for lunch in Lydney.

I cannot complain about the food we had but the one lady in particular who was serving us was quite frankly rude. Told us where we could and couldn’t sit, to then when serving us was rude, my partner asked for a small chips to go with his meal in which she responded with ‘they’re only one size anyway’ then before I had even finished saying my order she went to walk away. Didn’t seem overly bothered about working here and totally lets the place down. Very rude women. (Dark hair/highlights with glasses) and also answering her phone while behind the counter. Other staff who served were lovely though. (Lydney)

Looking for breakfast, saw this place the night before and gave it a go, glad we did, there is also an outside seating area which we used on a perfect sunny day. It was very busy with a constant stream of people, which is always a good sign.Had a breakfast and a couple of coffees, very filling and tasty, only opinion would be sausages lacked a bit but it's always down to personnel taste, everything else could not fault.Staff were very friendly in a very covid secure environment.We will be back on the next trip.

Great selection of food on the menu, windows were open for ventilation. Food was very nice, we went on a Thursday so wasn’t very busy which was nice

Came in to try the takeaway menu and was not disappointed - their coffees were great, the sandwiches were good value for money and the staff were lovely to talk to while we were waiting! Will definitely be coming back more often.

it was a beautiful place to visit very clean in side and out side the young lady was a very happy lady with a beautiful smile smile on her face at all times her boss was a very cheerful chap I had the breakfast beautiful I recommend it to anyone ten out of ten

Lovely friendly staff. My breakfast wrap was full of lovely ingredients. The chef even did a chilli sauce for me with just the right amount of spice. My husband enjoyed his 007 breakfast. Wish we lived a bit closer so we could visit more often!

We regularly have a Monday morning brunch after a walk to lydney harbour, cooked breakfast always great and the staff very friendly!

Went in for lunch yesterday only ever been before for the high quality breakfast. For lunch we decided to try a Turkish dish - Coban Kavurma. It was absolutely amazing! The steak was so tender no steak or gristle. The peppers cooked perfectly. The flavours absolutely amazing. Big portion left us fully satisfied. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Wow was passing through and wanted to get something to eat before meeting family I had one of the breakfast and wow such a amazing meal high quality produce used and cooked to a amazing standard. The service from the staff was first class friendly polite. And super safe under current world events

The breakfasts at Kaplans are probably the best I’ve ever had. All of the other items on the menu are great along with very pleasant staff.

We come here regularly because the coffee is just how we like it and the food is outstanding, no cheap ingredients here. Never had a meal we haven’t enjoyed. Best food in Lydney by far. Well recommended.

Visited yesterday with my family - chose here purely as it was right by the car park and there didn’t seem to be many places to eat in Lydney. Huge menu - liked the option of smaller versions of dishes when your kids are too big for kids meals but don’t want a massive lunch. Between us we had a breakfast, fish & chips, omelette and a pasta dish. All plates cleared - fish & chips declared the best he’d ever had - and with the eat out deal it was really cheap. Will return if we’re in the area again.

Visited this restaurant a few times over the last two years because most cafes are closed in lydney after 3pm ,hoping things may have got better.BUT NO ,last visit on the 6th january without going into to much detail staff incompetent ,cheap ingredients in food and extremely over priced.

Popped along for breakfast while we waited for our daughter who was doing something in Lydney for an hour. H had the 007 Breakfast, I had avocado and poached egg on gluten free toast.The breakfast was substantial but the bacon and egg was a bit overcooked for hisnibs.I was expecting crushed/smashed avocado on the toast with one poached egg on top. Didn't quite get that, what arrived was two slices of toast with sliced avocado and two coddled eggs. Very yummy. Don't know what type of avo they served but it was very nice. Perfect in fact.Kaplans if you read this, can I request your lovely ladies ask how one would like their tea. Hubby likes his strong with a splash of milk. He got medium with too much milk. Thank you

Ok breakfast was a really busy place. Omelette great and ok small breakfast. Quick and convenient. The bigger breakfasts looked amazing.

Love it here and always receive a warm welcome and great service. The food is tasty and they can accommodate anyone

Popped in as lady in the Co-Op recommended. It was 4.45pm as my group of 7 just needed a cuppa. Kaplans was very welcoming, inside and outside seating.

Have only ever visited with family for breakfast - visited their Coleford branch too. I always go for the Turkish breakfast which is served in a skillet pan and comprises a couple of fried eggs combined with spicy sausage and paprika (I think) topped off with pitta bread - delicious! Wife and kids happy with theirs too and service is always friendly and helpful. Doesn’t look much from the outside but give it a try!

A little more expensive than a cafe but great food so worth it. Efficient and friendly service. Extensive menu.

Stopped here as a last minute option. Close to car park, staff were friendly and welcoming, clean and tidy. Service was prompt, we only had drinks but meals looked nice.

The breakfast I had was a real winner, although the baked beans were left on the plate. The interior is well designed and tastefully modern and, on warm days I can sit outside and enjoy their coffee with sunshine on my back. Recommended.

We were in Lydney and decided to have some food and decided on Kaplan's. The car park is just behind the café and it is just a2 minute walk before you are spoilt for choice on the menu.

We went in with our granddaughters mid morning. We had tea ( in a mug).

The breakfast is lovely especially after a good night out. Disabled toilets and seating downstairs and upstairs. Lovely friendly staff especially the 3 chefs Ramazan, Viktor and Gabby. The 2 chefs always work every single day and work very hard and provide really good meals.

Headed to Kaplan's Cafe after seeing reviews as we were staying in Lydney. Great breakfast and good coffee just what was needed before the drive home. Good value and tasty with lots of choice on the menu.

Kaplan’s is ALWAYS a stop (or two) for us when we head back to England to visit family. Living here in the States, my hubby misses the proper full English breakfast. He is always satisfied with the quality of food at Kaplan’s. The service has always been great. The kiddos and I have no complaints about our food either. We always walk away full.

Went during the day time when they were serving a regular cafe type menu (mainly fried breakfasts in the morning). Everything was fine but the pricing was a little strong. Resembles a bar inside with a sunny terrace at the back. Service was prompt and effecient

We were staying just outside Lydney and came here for evening meals on the first and last night of our trip. The staff were pleasant and helpful and a good choice of meals including a specials board. The cuisine is essentially British with Mediterranean influences.

We have eaten here several times recently & have been very pleasantly surprised.

Wonderful hot chocolate and shortbread was out of this world. We'll be back! Staff were wonderful too.l

After enjoying a stroll around Lyndsey harbour we chanced upon this fab restaurant. WE only had coffeee and cake but we're treated like VIPs. Will definitely call again and have a meal.

As cold and hungry travellers passing through Lydney we were delighted to enjoy the warm hospitality of this comfortable cafe/Bistro. From a large and interesting menu we chose roast beef dinner and steak and kidney pudding and mash. Both meals were perfectly cooked and very reasonably priced.

This was the second visit here, the first was to recce for this weeks visit of thirteen of us who were meeting here at 9.00am before visiting Lydney Harbour. Several of us had cooked breakfasts of varying mixes, others just had drinks. I had a very nice decaf latte. Prices are very reasonable and the staff very friendly and obliging. Quite a popular café but there is plenty of seating and a pay & display car park at the back of the café (20p per hour).

Went in today 12th Sept with special needs clients, staff were absolutely wonderful, patient and very kind, nothing was to much trouble. Then the food couldn't fault it at all, lovely, quick, plenty of it, very nice, just 100% was a complete pleasure....adorable people thank you so much. Great lunch

Visited for a coffee and ended up having breakfast. Staff were lively and food was great value at reasonable price.

I recently began getting breakfast rolls to take out from here for hubby and son at work as their is no canteen in their works or food van within close proximity. The staff are friendly and welcoming and I'm told the breakfast rolls are nice. So now it's Friday ritual for me now.

I have passed this place many times usually only commute - had the morning off so popped in for lunch on my way through Lydney. Tastiest omelette I have had for ages! Plus a generous portion of chips and salad. I have seen other reviews moaning about the pricing, but I had a great lunch (which was so big I couldn't eat it all) and a pot of tea for under a tenner. Waitressing staff very friendly and fast too.

Myself and my boyfriend had been searching the the forest area for a breakfast cafe! We'd looked at a few other places and they were either closed down or not open. We finally found Kaplan's and I'm glad we did! Very affordable menu with good breakfast variety. Cant go wrong! The staff were very pleasant.

Busy lunctime. Had roast lunch for £7.95, can have large one for £9.95 but the

Bacon baguette and coffee. No better than average. Works canteen offers better! Wouldn't bother returning.

Friendly staff. Good menu reasonable price. Have a good choice of breakfasts. 2 of our group tried the turkish breakfast with spicy sausage and 3 eggs with pitta bread. Loved it. Even the cups of tea were among the best that we have had out! Recommend this place to eat as we have also eaten an evening meal previously which was exceptional.

Since the redecoration the whole place looks much better. The food is just as good as always. Had a 007 breakfast this time and it was lush!

Was Kayaking on the Wye and camping just outside Coleford. Came across this place thankfully and Breakfast here a couple of times. Great choice on menu, friendly and helpful staff. Average prices, clean and decent sized meals. Will definitely be back for more next time!!!

The staff were really friendly both times I have ate here but the food was very poor. Firstly it was cold that butter would not melt in the potato. Both times after I have eaten I have had a bad stomach and spent most of the evening in the bathroom

Came here to visit puzzlewood and stayed in lydney close by. This cafe has great food, great prices and the staff were lovely and portion sizes are great also. I need to diet now though.

You can alway get a reasonably priced good meal from a great range of breakfasts served all day to a vast array of cooked meals including a Turkish section. Highly recommended

this is a lovely little cafe in the centre of lydney. There is a really welcoming atmosphere and the menu offers lots of choice and different sizes of breakfast depending on how hungry you are. The food is all freshly cooked to order and reasonably priced - a real treat.

Breakfast comes out quickly and is nice and hot.Was greeted today not by the usual friendly younger girls, but an abrupt middle aged lady who I had to shout my order to across the first floor.Avoid the ground floor for breakfast as its usually has noisy kids and deaf, shouty old people. Go upstairs.

Kaplans has recently been decorated and inside extended, it looks really nice and inviting and lots of room so you dont feel squashed when you sit down. staff are always really friendly and know their regulars which is great is nice to see.

This is a little gem of a cafe, they always cook me a "special" and as I have been going there for years all the staff know me well.Don't miss out on it if you are in Lydney.

As visitors to Lydney we came across Kaplans whilst looking for a drink and nibble. We only ordered teas/coffees with baguettes etc which was all fine. But we will remember Kaplans in Lydney for the really friendly and cheerful staff who served us. Keep it up ladies!

Our party of ten were staying in the Forest of Dean, and Kaplans was recommended to us. However, when we came to book we were told they shut at 7pm. Because there were ten of us they said they would stay open. We ended up having an enjoyable meal with excellent, friendly service from the owner and his staff.

9 of us on a family weekend - they found a table for us easily. Service was really good - friendly and efficient waitress. Interesting range of options - my mother in law chose a great looking Turkish option. All the food was fine - well cooked and a good price.

Lovely cafe/restaurant. Expected more of a greasy spoon cafe due to high street location. I had an excellent risotto and my daughter had chicken nuggets and chips from children's menu. Would have liked to have seen mash as an alternative option to chips for the childrens menu. It's lovely upstairs. Very family friendly

Food was over cooked, think the extension is more than they can handel! Had a breakfast the sausage was tough, beans were over done will not be going back again.

We go there quite often but use the Coleford cafe more,thought we'd try the Lydney one as its been extended,the wife had prawn jacket potato BIG mistake the potato was really over cooked and the prawns was really chewy,when my wife complained the waitress said I'll get a fresh one done only to come back and say would you like something different as all the jacket potatoes were like it,the wife didn't choose anything else and left the cafe,me&my son carried on eating our breakfasts and my son left his egg&bacon so when I asked why he said the egg was cold and bacon was dry,went to pay and the jacket potato was still on the bill so I wasn't to impressed.dont know if it was anything to do with extending the cafe but it wasn't the usual standard I have come to expect from kaplins ☹️☹️

Normally we enjoy Kaplans but not today sadly.Ordered a Prawn Jacket potato and to say it was very over cooked is an understatement.The mouth full of prawns I tasted were rubbery and I gave up with the potato.The waitress took it away and offered a replacement but came back and said (Sorry their all over cooked would you like something else).I politely refused and left my husband and son to eat their cooked breakfast.We havent eaten at the Lydney Kaplans since they,ve expanded but perhaps thats what the problem is.They,ve possibly become too big to cope.

A vast menu from breakfast - tea and cakes . Very clean prompt service - recently expanded . A little on the expensive side and not keen on staff talking in a different language .

Not a bad place. Food is expensive for what you get but not much choice around the area. Tinned mushrooms on the breakfast is never the way forward.

Went here, whilst on holiday in the area. A great find!Reasonably priced, we had a cooked breakfast. Food was lovely, hot and quick!Sadly, whilst we were here, they were rearranging some furniture in the room above us and it was terribly loud!

Went here for Sunday dinner, and had a lovely breakfast instead. Staff were lovely, only downside for us, we sat downstairs and it sounded like they were moving the furniture around upstairs over our heads, for the whole time we were there. It would not stop us going again, lovely food and reasonably priced.

Went for holiday breakfast with the family and it went down very well. Fairly standard fayre but plenty of it and waitress was wonderful with the kids. Only minor complaint was very "mash potato" style veggie sausage, which clashed with hash brown!!

After a visit to Lydney today we called into kaplans for a light lunch.. Service was diabolically slow, our lattes arrived cold and my sons milkshake was all bubbles and no milk!For a place that is always busy, I have to say I'm shocked at how low other peoples standards must be.The conclusion being its the only cafe in lydney town centre.. I would avoid at all costs and try somewhere on the outskirts.

Having found absolutely nowhere else open in Lydney, I went to Kaplans today for lunch. The menu is very large....everything from roast dinners and English breakfast to a range of Greek and Turkish dishes. The service throughout was very good and all the staff were friendly.I had a chocolate milkshake to drink which really was excellent- very rich and tasty (so I had to have another....), and Roast Beef. The roast is what let it down- it certainly isn't freshly done (baring in mind they have 4 roasts available every day) and wasn't particularly good. The veg was fine, and the potatoes were ok (frozen ones so nothing great) and the Yorkshire was also ok but fairly soggy. The beef itself was the real let down- massive chunks of beef which were very fatty, badly cooked and tasted of absolutely nothing. So I wouldn't recommend the roasts but as there is such an extensive menu some of the other food might be good...

This was a lovely welcoming place, clean and very quick service. Although it is a bistro the menu was vast, from jacket potato, full English pasta, and we had a delicious roast dinner. The vegetables were fresh and were steamed, which gave them full flavour. We were offered a medium or large portions, very good idea.

Whether you want a full breakfast, light lunch orfull blown meal this is the place for you. Extensive and varied menu for all the family, friendly and efficient staff.

Being not from around the area i was reccomended this place to be one of the best places in Lydney to grab some lunch. I went for cod and chips and couldn't bring myself to eat even half of it. The batter tasted old and burnt and there was more of it than actual fish. The fish that was in there was tasteless and wasnt the usual white fresh colour you would expect from cod. The chips were soggy and undercooked. Avoid like the plague!! I would rather a meal deal from the supermarket up the road.

This is a great cafe with loads of Turkish/Greek dishes and specials like sea bass. Also fab if you just want a full English and a cuppa! Lovely staff who were friendly and gave good service. Also child friendly.

Been to this restaurant a few times now they do a lovely breakfast...very good value for money and a cosy warm atmosphere. ..you can see your breakfast being cooked and the staff are always polite. ..just found it a little expensive with drinks but other than that a lovely little find..

I visited with my wife and daughter early evening. The cafe was not busy but it should have been! Very good food and delightful service. If I am in Lydney again it will be my first choice.

Good, but some room for improvement. The chicken had a very odd, almost processed, texture. It was a fillet, but felt 'wet' and tasted more like a burger. My husband had the risotto, however, and was highly impressed. The decor is well maintained and comfortable and the food was reasonably priced.

Kaplan's serves Turkish food and standard cafe fare. We enjoyed a sunday brunch from the breakfast menu. The service is excellent, quick, attentive and unobtrusive. It has a vibrant busy atmosphere.The food is good quality and fresh, the coffee also deserves a mention, very good. Overall a great Sunday experience, we will be back!

My cousin and I regularly visit Lydney to have our hair cut and we have recently decided to ty Kaplans for our lunch..... well worth a visit. Not the cheapest lunch we have had, but well worth the money. The staff are very helpful and the food is excellent. In addition, if you are like me and trying to slim with Slimming World, they have various menu options to have and the staff can recommend the Slimming World choices easily. I actually liked it the food was tasty and hot, portions a good size and the staff friendly. I read some of the other reviews and I have to agree the decor is a little gloomy but not too bad. I thought it was a good value for money meal whilst visiting Transporter land. will be considering at as venue for wife's family meal.

This was the only place we could find open on Sunday in the town. We had an hour free due to catching a train. We ordered 2 roast dinners and two coffee's. There was one staff member run off her feet upstairs and I believe one down stairs. We waited about 20min for the food, When the lamb dinners came one was Luke warm while the other one had just been taken out of the fridge. Al the veg was freezing cold, the lamb tasted nice, the roasters too. I sent it back and told them I couldn't wait as we needed to catch a train. There was no apology. When we went down stairs the girl taking the money said I won't charge for the one you sent back as if they were doing us a favour. No apology and the guy I think was the owner or chef didn't even look up. Disgrace.

Though I have only just moved to live in Lydney, Kaplan's have already become my eatery of choice for breakfast and lunch. The food is good; the price reasonable and good value, and the serving staff pleasant and helpful. Highly recommended.
