The restaurant felt really nice inside, the lighting was great and I loved the partition between the entrance and seating area, which meant there was no foot traffic alongside the table. The staff were welcoming on arrival but the friendliness didn’t really continue - it was a bit bland in terms of service - no conversation, menu explanations, no check back or second drinks offered, no follow up after finishing a dish to see if any more / any pudding / the bill was wanted. The food was presented lovely. The mixed tempura was really unusual and I appreciated the variety which came with it, but for mostly battered vegetables it was on the expensive side. The sushi was nice - not as tender/melt in the mouth as I’d expect for the environment/cost but nice none the less.

We've had lunch at Kami four or five times. The food is consistently delicious - their eel is outstanding! There's a quiet and pleasant ambiance and attentive and friendly service. Looking forward to the next time. Kentish Town Underground is closed until Summer 2024 but the overground station is within 200metres (just turn left out of the station) and there are lots of buses. Very highly recommended.

Lovely decor and has a nice vibe to the place. Recommend going for maki sushi as you get a lot more for your money. Didn't try the main dishes but they looked good and big portions! We had a nice wine and the staff were on the ball

We got the £15 lunch special which included miso soup, salad with delish dressing, veg gyoza and a main! So delicious and the staff were brilliant. Highly recommend! Right next to kentish town tube 👍🏼

Aesthetically pleasing restaurant and tasty food! I had the chicken yakitori and the chicken katsu curry don. The food was so filling but so good so I ate every bite. The rice was beautiful and the presentation of the dish was so nice. I wish I took a photo of the food but it looked so yummy I couldn’t wait. Servers provided us forks because we were awful at using spoons. The price was also very reasonable in my opinion. If I found myself in the area I would definitely come back, I only wish this restaurant was close to me because I know it would do so well!!! Only thing I noticed was that the servers did no check-back on the food but could probably guess from an empty plate there was no need in the end LOL

Just ordered take away. All the sushi was completely tasteless. Bad cuts of fish that had clearly been frozen for a long time. Had better sushi at a gas station. Really really disappointing. The aubergine starter was really nice though.

My husband and I have visited Kami at least half a dozen times for lunch over the past few months, and every time the food and service has been simply outstanding. They have a superb sushi chef who makes absolutely delicious bento boxes in which everything is freshly made. I'm not given to rating a place so highly, but the quality of the tuna in the sashimi bento box is consistently superb. Everything is freshly made: their gyoza are splendid, the tempura is exactly how I like it, and the rice is cooked perfectly. It is no surprise to me that couriers arrive to ta collect orders placed by people working from home. They also serve a range of beers, and my favourite, which is hot sake. I can't recommend this place highly enough, and I've been meaning to write this review for some time.

Este lugar es increible. Increíble, comida increíble y el personal es muy amable y servicial. El atún chamuscado es simplemente delicioso. La desventaja es que tienen un vino realmente limitado (y una mala elección de vino). ¡Pero puedes beber un delicioso saki! Simplemente asombroso. Es bastante caro, pero la calidad de la comida coincide, por lo que vale la pena.

Great little place close to Kentish Town station. Really enjoyed the sashimi which was super fresh and the tempura udon. About £25/head with a beer and friendly service. Local spot.

If you are looking for some real Japanese food, this is the right spot. No doubts. The sushi is fantastic, however what really blew my mind was the miso glazed aubergine!

We love Kami. I visit with my parents and family or go along solo all the time. The quality of the food is excellent. The salmon and butterfish sashimi are amazing, as are the salads, the black cod and the prawn gyoza... but they are just my personal choices. With all the choice in London when it comes to restaurants Kami is my favourite.

Freshly prepared , delicious Japanese food just as good on 2nd visit . Piping hot melt in the mouth gyoza, tempura with udon noodles to die for and fresh as you could ask for sushi.

The food was great and the staff very friendly but the food was so slow to arrive. It was annoying to see food going out the door for takeaways while we had to sit and wait so long to be served. The constant presence of 3-4 Deliveroo drivers lurking in the doorway also wasn’t great given how small the restaurant is.

Went there with my friend the other night as we had passed by several times and the interior peaked our interest! We finally decided to go in the other night and I can guarantee I CERTAINLY WILL NOT BE RETURNING! I ordered the chicken katsu and it was horrible in taste and texture, I then spoke to the manager who begrudgingly took it away, I was not impressed with the service at all. No replacement was offered and when the bill came I was shocked to see I was charged for it when I didn't even eat it due to its lack of quality and evidently cheaply sourced ingredients. The manager then almost bullied me into paying for it and then told me and my friend to get out, I haven't ever experienced service like this in my life and will forever be avoiding at all costs!

Comí algunas piezas de mi katsu, ya que no están de acuerdo conmigo (no específicamente perfil ¿por qué), pero me lo mandaron de vuelta y explicó que no sabían bien a mí y me dijo que me pide algo nuevo. No me ofrecieron una comida de reemplazo - bastante seguro de esto es la práctica, si no lo siento por darlo.

My friend and I have read all the positive reviews and our experience tonight was nothing like described but simply outrageous! We both ordered the chicken katsu, the cuts were fatty and it was just awful. Just as I was about to complain, I saw the manager being very verbally aggressive to a group of girls sitting across form us. His demeanour was appalling particularly when we watched him swear at them as they walked out. Disgusting. I will never be going back here again.

We went after their major refurbishment and the ambience is good for a night out in a quiet yet busy restaurant. However considering the location being not central London compared to all other numerous other Japanese restaurants I’ve been, the prices are too high. I pay less for everything in an authentic Japanese restaurants in more central locations. Sushi quality is great with thick and fresh cuts and good decoration and good selection of menu for the size of the kitchen. One dish I didn’t enjoy was my favourite grilled eel on rice, the size of the eel was 1/3 of the normal size for the price of £18 since eel prices have gone down little in recent years. For this reason I gave 2 star out of 5 for value. If you’re looking for great sushi in Kentish Town there’s no other place so I recommend if you’re a local Japanese fan.

The best Japanese food I have eaten in Britain- having visited Japan several times and eaten the real thing. A wider menu than most British Japanese restaurants. Small, good décor, helpful staff. Also do takeaway - a lot of demand while we were there.

Siempre hemos disfrutado Kami - que es muy bueno, con un menú de sushi fresco amplio - en el último mes fueron a través de una reforma '- y ahora sus precios -que ya estaban en el high end - - han subido de 10 a 20% por artículo. Maki que era de £4 es ahora 6 libras. 50 - y el tamaño es el mismo. Este se siente simplemente codiciosos, y comparado con otros lugares y bueno son considerablemente más baratos. sushi Lamento decir que ya no será visitar Kami.

The chefs are very talented. Everything I've eaten here has been so delicious. I tend to get a take away, the restaurant itself is nice but quite small.

Food was oily and horrible. Black cod horrendously overpriced for what you actually get. Miso aubergine was disappointing. Dumplings Yaki Soba was oily. Overpriced and poor quality.

I went there for New Years Eve and was a bit sceptical given the bad reviews on trip advisor but I was very pleasantly surprised. The service was really good and the sushi quality and taste was excellent. The price and the portions were perfect as well. This will definitely be my sushi local at Kentish from now on.

My soft shell crab was 7.5 and EXTREMELY small portions, about 4 pieces. The miso soup was about 100ml... The spicy scallop maki was about half the portion of what you'd expect. This is the second time I experienced this and it forced me to review. The prices are restaurant prices so I expected more. Unbelievable.

Food tasted a little odd. Surprise, surprise I was very ill for 24 hours, which started about 5 hours after I ate. I did not eat anything else the entire day before I was ill a so this must have been the cause. I will be reporting them to the local council.

We recently ordered a sushi set worth almost £20 which was delivered almost an hour later, came without wasabi and was chewy and had a weird taste. Never ordering here again!!

This is my 3rd time ordering their ikura (salmon fish roe) nigiri sushi, and OH MAN,,,, its REALLY BAD this time. It taste/smell like fish market trash left out in the sun too long. Doesn't the chef check their supplies? Why don't you stick it in your own mouth to taste it first before serving it???! Unagi is just as bad and smelly.. definitely been left out too long. Isn't made fresh. Stale ! I have never had such disgusting Japanese food in my entire life.

So: first impressions are that it is a down at heel but supposedly reasonably priced place, v. good reviews.Pickles were fine. My partner's nigiri (2x salmon £3,50; 2x tuna £4) looked nicely presented, if on the small side.I was shocked, verging on insulted by the Chirashi Sushi (£15). Instead on being, as per takeaway menu (n.b. we were eating in), and per usual convention " a fine selection of assorted sashimi on the bed of sushi rice" it was a selection of what looked like offcuts, all jumbled together on a bed of rice, including a hefty dose of crab/fishsticks and avocado. Really made me question the ability of the chef given how, well, ugly the cuts were- I've never been served a more inelegant sushi bowl in my life, including at takeaway chains. Bits of Salmon that looked like they'd been cut from under the fillet (carpaccio flat and wide), what looked like sea bass with the white from the skin attached (no scales, thankfully!) Also, it made it impossible to discern the different types of fish and tastes as everything was mixed in together. I tried to have the dish removed from the bill as I did not eat it and felt that it had been falsely advertised - whilst a burger is great, you'd feel hard done by if you had ordered (and paid for!) a steak. Manager got very aggressive, removed service charge - which felt unfair as the waitress had been fine! We should have gone to Hana sushi!

Very good and tasty Japanese food. Restaurant was small and our clothes smell Of food from the open kitchen. Other than being asked to move table, the restaurant was cramped due to size. Food is expensive but most Japanese places are. The food was tasty so we give the place a thumbs up.

Unprepossessing small restaurant (and takeaway) near Kentish Town Forum, but outstanding food. Tried a whole range - miso, gyoza (vegetarian and chicken), sushi/sashimi selection, and a true excellent grilled mackerel (my son had the udon...). As good as any Japanese I have tried in London (includes Nobu)

Tried this place out as a quick fix before a gig at The Forum. To say we were blown away is an understatement! Absolutely amazing food. Fresh melt in your mouth sashimi and crisper than crisp Tempura. Seriously, everything served was made to perfection. Such an understated establishment offering 5 star food and a happy smiley service to match. Just go. You won't be disappointed!
