Ordered salmon don and chicken katsu curry for delivery. Salmon don doesn't look great compared to images or website but it's barely passable I guess. Chicken katsu curry has barely anything in it, chicken looks sad and depressed. Do not order this. A shame as reviews for this place look good but it seems they don't uphold nearly the same quality for delivery so do bear that in mind. For the price you're paying I do not recommend.

High quality sushi rolls and nigiri. The quality of sushi rice makes them very tasty. Salmon skin rolls have a unique warm grilled flavour reasonable price definitely recommend.

Sushi were average at best, most fishes were decent but the toro was subpar. The Omakase sushi set wasn't great for value. You'd expect the best fishes to be presented but we had similar fishes from other sushi sets, one of the pieces was an avocado nigiri... Service was friendly and attentive.

We used to come here many times before, up until Covid broke out. It used to be a good experience, however, it declined and is now a place to avoid. Although the restaurant was empty, we were given a table in front of the sushi bar, which is not being used as bar anymore. It’s now used as a takeaway station with bags and takeaway boxes, with the staff making commotion over preparing the orders & delivery drivers coming in and out and the staff shouting to them updates about orders etc. very unpleasant to say the least. So basically you are eating in a takeaway stall. Food was overpriced, ridiculous portions (except for the sushi roll) and quite bland. It’s a shame as it used to be quality food, good service and decent atmosphere, but now it’s being run as an overpriced, mediocre takeaway. Will not return.

Avoid at all costs! You are better off going to Eat Tokyo! The previously well loved Atariya Swiss Cottage is no longer what it used to be. Barely any customers and wouldn't be surprised if it closed down soon. The sushi rice was bland and tasteless meaning there was no taste of sushi vinegar on the rice. In addition, the sushi rice wasn't warm rather it was cold. For the price, service, atmosphere and quality, I would highly recommend avoiding this place and would recommend going to Eat Tokyo instead.

Quite disappointed at the ‘deluxe’ chirashi costing £25 incl. service charge. There’s nothing deluxe about it really (okay perhaps some salmon roe but they are not particular good) I had to pay £13 extra for some otoro to make it deluxe myself. Go to Japan Center and pay £13 (without service charge needed) and it might even better if not the same

I absolutely love this sushi restaurant. I live in the neighborhood and order takeaway a couple times per month (much cheaper to call it in and pick up rather than Deliveroo, and there’s a loyalty card). The fish is always delicious, I’m saddened to hear that others have thought it tasted frozen or metallic. Their sashimi is so good, I also buy their saku (blocks of raw fish to make sushi at home). I wouldn’t compare this place to any Michelin restaurants, it’s not that kind of place. It’s a simple, clean, homey place that also happens to supply delicious sushi-grade fish for many decent restaurants in London. The people who work there have been consistently nice on the phone and in person. The prices reflect the quality and area but also don’t break the bank. I couldn’t recommend them more.

When I went to buy a sashimi fence in the evening without a reservation, I was told, ``Please come back in 20 minutes as we are preparing food for customers who had reservations. We will take your order in 20 minutes.''When I went there 20 minutes later, they said, ``Please come back in 20 minutes.'' I was told, "Please come back in 50 minutes," so I gave up. I should have just declined from the beginning and said, ``We're fully booked for customers who have reservations today, so if you don't have a reservation, we can't accommodate you.'' Moreover, when I left 20 minutes later, the receptionist was checking to see if the Japanese chef was available, and yelled at the receptionist in audible way, saying, "We're busy right now! In 50 minutes!" Ta. It's a very rude restaurant that doesn't even ask if the food is delicious. When I went without a reservation in the evening, I was told, "We are cooking the food for the reserved customers at first, so please come back in 20 minutes. We will accept the order in 20 minutes." When I went 20 minutes later, I was told "Please come again in 50 minutes" and gave up. From the beginning, you should say, "Today is full and busy for reserved customers, and it is impossible to take orders for those who do not have a reservation ." Moreover, when 20 minutes passed, the receptionist confirmed with the chef and yelled to the receptionist so that I could clearly hear "I'm busy now! 50 minutes later!" It's a pretty rude shop before whether the food is good. We don't see such a rude chef in Japan so don't misunderstand if you are not Japanese.

Without over exaggerating, this really was the worst sushi restaurant I’ve ever been to in London. Not only was it overpriced, but the fish quality was also awful! The texture of the fish tasted as though they had been frozen and the flavour was metallic and fishy in a bad way. I can’t believe they are the sashimi supplier for many London restaurants… To make the matter worse, we were sat by the front door which seem to have been broken for a while and it doesn’t shut itself. Whenever someone walked in we had to get up and shut the door ourselves as it was freezing out. The staff did not help or pay attention to the door at all.

I would give the food 4 stars but the service 2-3. Not so much about the taking of orders and bringing of food but due to the way we were treated as the restaurant was closing. When we made a booking for 9:30pm we weren’t told that we would need to leave by 10:15pm. The waiter happily took our order, brought us our food and as we were still finishing our meal having not even reached coffee or dessert a bill was placed on our table. We ignored it. After all we were still eating. 3 minutes later the manager came over insisting we pay. We did. We still had our wine to finish and weren’t asked if we wanted dessert or coffee. There were other clients still around us. Chairs started to be put on tables around us. This was 10:15 please note having been given less that 45 minutes to eat and not being told that was the case. As my friend and I were still finishing our wine, we were told the restaurant was closing and asked to leave. We pointed out that we still had to finish our wine and this was not the way to treat paying customers. The reply was a shrug of the shoulders by the manager and that the restaurant must close at 10:30pm. To cut a long story short we were made to leave having not even been allowed to finish. I would advise people to choose other sushi restaurants. There is plenty of choice around and a restaurant displaying this behaviour should not be allowed to operate.

I was so close, so close! To giving this place 5 stars and I'll explain why I deducted one star. Would recommend booking a head as this place is rather small and can get packed out during busy hours, so if you want to avoid waiting 30+ minutes then call and reserve a spot! We ordered the Tori Karaage, Una-Ju, Aburi Wagyu Nigiri (x2), Sal Ikura Don, Tokujo Chirashi, Salmon Spicy Mayo, coke (x2) and Yuzu Ramune. Total £107.50. Soooo yeah, this by no means is a cheap place to eat. But damn, the food is amazing. Honestly. I would go as far as to say to save up and treat yourself here if you possibly can as the food is very good. With that being said. I was a little disappointing by the chef making the sushi and food as at one point during survive, they whipped out their mobile phone and was on it for a few minutes before continuing their service. They did wash their hands after but that kind of ruined the atmosphere for me slightly. There was also a long wait before we got the cheque before we could pay to leave. I know this seems picky but it was almost the most perfect service with food apart from that. I have been here before and will come again in the future no doubt... After I save up a little money ;)

I used to come here weekly for many years. Either for sit-down or take-away. Casual and great quality. Most of all though this place used to have amazing value for money. Suddenly a few months ago the prices for everything skyrocketed. Where 6 pieces of tuna makki used to be £2.60 for take away they are now £6.90 (+165%!), Yellow-tail maki was £3.20 (now £6.50, +100%!). Same amount, same quality. If you know how to search for them one can still find the old menus/ prices online. A lot of other prices increased less rapidly but still massive price increase across the board. Our takeaway is now double the price what it used to be and sadly its just not worth it. For that kind of money one can visit a fancy Zone 1 Sushi Place. I also do not care for special offers at specific times as it is just not convenient to plan ahead when you fancy some sushi. It was just easy to preorder here for pick up on your way home from work. I completely get that every here and then prices need to be adjusted, but inflation definitely did not surge in any way remotely as to demonstrated here! I know a lot of customers feel the same way (just read through the reviews here or on tripadvisor) and that you most likely lost a lot of regular clients. That's a shame because this place was a real star for a casual dinner in the neighbourhood. My only advise. FIX YOUR PRICES!

I've been coming here for years and always loved their sushi. They had really great quality fish and the rice was cooked perfectly. However a few months ago I arrived and all the prices seem to have almost doubled, the increase was really quite astonishing (a little bowl of spicy prawns that once cost ~£4 now costing ~£8 for example). The quality isn't as bad as lots of people here are making out, it's still good sushi (albiet not quite as good as it was), but seriously it's priced like Nobu now. I've been a few times since but always wince at the bill (if you can spend less than £100 for two people you're a better person than me), so I think I must sadly part ways with Atariya.

I must echo what other reviewers have said. It is utterly disappointing what is happening with this place. We used to be regulars, twice a week every week. And the last time we went we noticed the menu was different, staff were different and the prices were very very different. My fav dish is the beef tataki, that went up from 12 to 17 GBP. Simply not ok!!! So did the spicy prawns and other dishes. When enquired we were told there had been a change in management an it was implied the previous management had missmanaged the place therefore they had to make the changes. I felt so let down, why should we as customers take the toll? We have not been back again and doubt we will. You can't change mayfair prices for mediocre food and service. They also have an imposed 12.5% service charge which is just ridiculous at this point. I hope they realise they are going the wrong way about this and change their ways.

This place used to be very good.. now they've changed the menu, it has become quite expensive and the quality is also a bit worse

This used to be my most recommended sushi restaurant in London. Although it was a very basic environment, they had Tokyo class sashimi and easily the best price/quality ratio in the city. I'd regularly visit for an o-toro fix.

The best Japanese restaurant in London! The food is very fresh and the service is great! Make sure you book a table as they get very busy.

The flavours are like nothing I have tried before in London and that makes every mouthful divine. The food is beautifully prepared and the service exceptional. Loved this place and looking forward to try their extensive menu.

We had dinner with family and ordered tempura soba, chirashi don, chicken katsu don and sushi. Sushi was outstanding and fatty tuna was fresh with high quality. Soba was lovely, authentic. However, tempura, soft shell crab and the chicken katsu don were just average, were not that cripsy and were slightly more salty. Chirashi don was amazing with fresh sashimi, definitely recommend this.

This used to be my favourite sushi place. But it has recently changed due to new management. The prices are much higher now, some things are double the price now. The portions are smaller as well, especially inside out rolls which are tiny now. The quality is worse now as well. They have also completely changed the staff including chefs and got rid of the best ones. Very disappointing and sad. The place used to be busy and it was hard to get a table but now it is only half filed. Very sad.

My girlfriend and I used to love this place and go there regularly. They changed the management, doubled the prices and fired all the good chefs and nice Japanese staff. The sushi rolls are much smaller now as well and you can't order the special rolls now as they got rid of them. This place is too expensive for what you get now. The food quality is poor now too. I need to find a new sushi place now as definitely not eating at Atariya again...

This used to be my favourite sushi place in London and was a regular there, always recommending to friends. Unfortunately after my visit yesterday (August 2018) I am very disappointed as the management has changed, the long-standing Japanese chefs are no longer there , the prices went up by at least 60%, some things have doubled, their sushi selection is very poor now as they got rid of the special ones like seared fatty tuna rolls. Also, inside out rolls are now very small and same size as hosomaki. The food quality has worsened as well and some rolls fall apart. This place is now simply expensive, low quality and has poor selection.

Best sushi-place in London! The quality of the food is definitely high and better than other well know/famous/posh sushi restaurant in London...a must have in London. Prices reflect the quality. Also take away available

Loyal customer of Atari-ya's Swiss Cottage restaurant for over 5 years. Unfortunately the management has suddenly decided to nearly double their prices overnight (for takeaways at least e.g. Tuna don from £13.50 to £25, Tuna Nigiri from £2.20 to £3.80). Note: takeaway prices are now the same as eat-in prices. In addition you can now only pay cash for takeaways (which is very fishy).
