Kalbi Korean BBQ & Sushi in Islington

For the price you’re better off going to another buffet. They tell you 10% service charge is compulsory before you sit down. Warning on walls saying you have to pay double for waste! £32.50 if u choose premium which is beef. Otherwise £29.50 for just chicken and pork. I cook korean and to be honest the dishes could easily be done at home. It wasn’t really stand out recipes. I’ve been to other Korean restaurants that’s cheaper and the food quality was much better. Men’s toilets out of order so they used the women’s. I wouldn’t go back. I think TikTok over rated the food. I won’t be trusting them anymore. Much better to come here.

Waited for over 25 minutes and did not get served. They didn’t even come to take our order. The place was so understaffed and basically only had 3 staff and 1 person that seemed to be the owner/manager who didn’t do anything and just stood around. I saw others saying to flag the staff down and they told us “1 minute” for about 15 minutes. Eventually just went and left it just wasn’t worth it.

For £30 pounds per person , the place could be of a better value. The meat cuts are cheap and you get the sides only once. If you choose menu B, you cannot select the meats but they request to have everything & then you can choose what you want once you have eaten. The dumplings is one per person only while the menu depicts a portion of 6. Fried rice was not well cooked and it had dried lumps of rice. They could provide more sides and salad. The true cost per person is 40 pounds over with soft drinks & service charge. They could have true glasses instead of plastic ones.

Staff great, they were very nice and helped us with the cooking system. The location is romantic, intimate and NICE MUSIC! If you wanna taste good korean bbq and is your first time, come here 😉

Went here with a friend for the all you can eat buffet. The food was delicious and the staff was as helpful as can be but the restaurant is super tiny so it was very loud, hard to flag someone down and felt a bit overwhelming. Would come back for the food though

Buffet is good value at £26.90/person, which includes unlimited Korean BBQ meats (pork and chicken bulgogi, spicy pork and chicken, smoky BBQ chicken and pork belly). You also get one round of appetizers/side dishes (yangyum chicken, kkangpongi, mandu, japchae, etc), and your choice of a rice (plain, fried rice or bibimbap). You can also pay a bit extra if you want rib-eye bulgogi and LA kalbi, as well as some other side dishes. Really enjoyed the meal.

Proper korean BBQ stuff with many side banchan (side dishes) which I really enjoyed. Real Korean water plastic bottles you get to see back in Korea as well! Food is good. Would recommend if you want to try korean BBQ!

The service was horrible wouldn’t recommend the food was horrible Servicer was rude when asked to remove the service charge because they didn’t explain it to us She was very unclear and MANAGER KEPT ON IGNORING US !! Appalling service, table ready half hour late. Half the group didnt recieve their platter 1 1/2 hours later. "manager" service and response was awful. Koba or kintan are far superior resturaunts, try them.

Me and my friends decided to go here for dinner and the workers were so helpful with everything and were also very attentive to our needs. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was also very delicious. Overall it was an great experience and we will definitely be going again!

My girlfriend and I have been looking for a Korean barbecue place that serves halal for quite a while. When we found out that the meat here is halal (although pork is served here, and I did not check for certification), we were very excited to go. The buffet with full add-ons is the way to go. The wait staff were very friendly, especially Ben who was very sociable and made us enjoy our experience 10x more. Riya (or Ria? we didn't get to check) was very attentive to our needs and made sure that anything we needed was taken care of immediately. The food was great. We had been disappointed by other places serving alleged Korean barbecue, so we were a bit nervous. But the food was incredible! The beef was great and the chicken was superb. We were given lots of sides and salad to enjoy our meal, which paired great with the meats. For a two hour buffet, the value for money is unbelievable. I definitely recommend anyone, especially larger groups as you can make the most of every dish, to go.

It was a lovely dinner we had and we were served by Ben (most friendly staff) and enjoyed our time at the restaurant, and the food! The restaurant sure has improved alot since our last visit from 2019. Ben made our experience super awesome!

Wife and I both had the buffet. From the time entered to the moment we left Ria treated us like royalty. Really attentive customer service.My wife is vegan and so Ria accommodated us by providing a vegetable platter for her to grill and some other vegatarian dishes.The meat was delicious and so plentiful that I left a large portion uncooked.For £30 a head this has to be one of the best value meals I have ever had. A really unique experience grilling your own food to eat at your table.9/10 Would defo recommend

Went with my girlfriend for her birthday and was really amazing. Lovely food and staff. Food 10/10The kalbi and the pork meat is too good to even tell. Not to forget the side dishes, all of them were so so good, specially the potatoes and the japchae. This is the best place to come for Korean food and honestly, the best place for comfort food and to go home feeling like you just had a warm mom meal and a nice hug. We are definitely coming back again ❤️

We stumbled upon Kalbi when we were unable to get a table at the restaurant we'd planned to visit up the road. Service was slow, having to beckon waiters across several times to order drinks even though the restaurant was pretty empty. We were notified that there was no sushi being served tonight so we opted for the set menu with unlimited bbq. The starters were served quickly and were tasty. The bbq meat was only pork and chicken thighs. We were informed this was unlimited, but after you cook your first batch the waiting staff turn your bbq down very low so that subsequent batches of meat take much longer to cook. The service was poor throughout, I've never had to request service so much in a restaurant before. Then to top it off they land you with a 12.5% compulsory service charge, which made a very average meal actually pretty expensive. I won't be returning.

i love Korean food and while in the neighborhood wanted to try this restaurant what a big mistake, it was a terrible experience, rude service, smelly food, reheated terrible taste!

Only served 40 minutes after ordering. Chicken ordered was too soggy. Reheated version 100%, it was in overall, tasteless. In my bibimbap, I still taste vege was colD!

Price is very high for what you get, and service was extremely poor. Would not waste my hard earned money here. They just did not seem to care at all! Watch out for the cheeky service charge not clearly mentioned when calling... £150 for 4 of us and you can find much better choice.

Great food, wide range, also for vegeterians. The waiters however took forever just to give a menu not to mention taking an order. Also, don’t take your most precious clothes as they will smell like they’ve just been deep fried after having been there.

Fui con mi pareja por primera vez. Realmente me gustó la comida que servían y las carnes eran deliciosas! Pedimos el 23. 90 set de comida. Yo también amaba el kimchi. El servicio que recibimos también fue bueno, mi única queja es el precio realmente. En general, era de 60 libras, supongo que no está mal, pero tampoco es bueno, la experiencia promedio. For £20 you get the Korean BBQ Buffet with sides and rice and I am telling you it is a lot! You can ask for refills and the staff is very gracious and friendly. The food quality is very good and the meat always tastes fresh and tasty. I am yet to try their ala carte menu so will definitely come back to this place.

This used to be a sushi restaurant (some years ago) and so when I had some business to do round the corner I thought I'd see what the new owners were doing. When I walked in I thought it looked a bit shabby and run down but thought I'd give it a try.

Este fue un excelente asesoramiento "normal" era divino, pero el bistec bistec marinado el justo lo llevó a otro nivel! ! Los aperitivos y los lados también eran deliciosos.

We were googling for an authentic Korean restaurant and very pleased we found Kalbi. The restaurant was about to close when we came but the manager was happy to accommodate us. We chose the buffet set C. All meat (pork, beef & chicken) were well marinated and so delicious!The Kimchee was to die for! The pork balls were crunchy & yummy! The side dishes were soo goooddd! We were well looked after by the manager! 2 Thumbs up for a great food & very hospitable lady manager!

Reservamos una mesa para 4 y tenía barbacoa coreana. La comida estaba bien, nada malo con la comida. Sin embargo, el servicio era bastante malo. Went to have kbbq and it was amazing! We had the buffet and it was tasty! It's quite spacious and staffs are lovely!! I would definitely go back and have another go at kbbq!! If you looking for quick Korean tasty foods... this has got to be the one!

The buffet Korean BBQ they have on offer will ensure that you leave feeling full and with the range of meats available, you'll find something to suit your taste. The meats generally tasted good, some of the meats were quite fatty and unpleasant but some of the marinated meats tasted great. The atmosphere and service were decent but could be improved, it is also quite expensive for the Korean BBQ. Overall, it's worth a try.

Reserved a table for 13, upon arrival our reservation could not be found. I then had to show proof of reservation before we was seated.We was then squashed onto a table which should have seated no more than 10 people. As soon as we was seated we was rushed to ordered considering the restaurant was empty.When we was ready to order drinks we managed to get the attention of 3 waiters/waitresses standing around. When we ask if we could order drinks we was told they can't take our order and had to wait for someone else as they don't know. Not sure why a waiter/waitress are not qualified in taking a basic drink order in this place. Any other restaurant would just be part of their job.When we started ordering food it started off fine, then waitress became argumentative and rude.Started confusing everyone and telling us we had only 2 BBQ grills on our tables. Wanted us to explain how she would cook everyone's food. During our meal we consistently had staffs leaning over us while we tried to eat. When they was clearing away plates after our meal, all our glasses with our drinks was taken away. Seriously, if you are considering coming here with more than 4 people. Please pick another place as they are unable to mange groups. Perhaps the service would be just as bad for smaller group.We waited for 20 minutes for our desserts too be told it was still frozen and they could not serve it too us. Confused as it was ice cream and that should have been frozen anyway. We gave up and requested our bill and waited another 10 minutes before I had to ask again for the bill. Instead of the bill, they decided to bring out the ice cream. I had to tell them to take it away and just bring the bill as I didn't have another 45 minutes to have dessert and wait again for the bill.Overall, I would not recommend this place nor will I or anyone within my party will be going back.Anyone wanting to visit this place for Korean BBQ. Don't waste your time, you will be better off somewhere else, where the staff is more experienced and the environment is more relaxed.

This was my second visit to this restaurant.....this time for dinner. We had an overworked yet friendly & attentive waitress. I found the food very tasty especially the Yangnyum chicken & the Seafood Dolsot Bibimbab. I would say this is a place more enjoyed with several friends. We ordered the course B table BBQ & cooked our own meats.Would recommend to those who are happy with a three * service with 5* street food.

Our table of four all chose eat-all-you-can Set B. Having read other reviews that the staff would cook -- and insist on cooking -- the food for us, we did not ask to cook the food ourselves. We were not given the option anyway, as the staff proceeded to cook our food. However, what was shocking was that the staff cooked our sirloin to "well done", without asking us what level of rareness we wanted. This was our premium meat! When we confronted the manager, he said that we had the option of choosing to cook on our own or asking the staff to cook for us. Not only was this NOT the case, we were also not told that the additional items of Set B were only available as one portion, and not on an eat-all-you-can basis. If this is so, it totally does not make sense for the whole table to be forced to order the SAME set - since we were technically paying for just one portion of the supposedly premium meat.The food is at best ordinary. What is disgusting however, is the lack of attention to customers and wholly revolting service.

This was my second time visiting. We had option B (second expensive of the 3) of the dinner buffet instead of the option C. I found that I enjoyed the option C meat a lot more, especially the pork bulgogi which was a very nice flavour. I highly recommend option C. The food was nice but the bibimbap they serve is cold which is a disappointment but I recommend the seafood pancake which is very nice!The waitresses were nice but I wish they wouldn't try to BBQ our food when we've already told them we can do it ourselves as we were in the middle of eating meat that we just cooked. That made it seem like they wanted us to hurry up and leave which was rude. Again, the restaurant was quite cold (which never happens to me at any other restaurants) and I had to put on my jacket.When we asked for the bill, they kept us waiting for around 20 minutes which was when we had to remind the waitress again. I think I'll try other restaurants if I want a korean BBQ next time..The food was good but the atmosphere and service did not live up to expectations.

I booked Kalbi for dinner for 20 South Korean diners on Friday night. It was confirmed over telephone and then additionally at 4pm that day. However, two phones calls to the restaurant to inform them the party size had shrunk (a reasonable request) were met with angry, forceful conversations with no record of the booking. No only did the Kalbi employee talk over the potential diners but they also belittled them. At 9pm that evening an email was sent from Kalbi regarding the booking asking if the guests were still coming (the booking was for 8.30) - so clearly the booking had been made. By that point however the potential diners had found alternative arrangements. Not without considerable distress. It is worth noting that the chance of repeat business here was very high. No only for the South Korean members of the party but also the London based ones. It is safe to say that is not longer going to happen. I encourage everyone to avoid this restaurant. If they couldnt even get a simple booking right then I dont event want to try the food. Other reviews also indicate a high percentage of poor service and poor quality food. There are plenty of other great Korean restaurants in London.

My friends decided to eat here as they wanted to try the korean bbq. It was a good experience but we weren't allowed to cook the meat ourselves, it was only done by the waitress, which was disappointing. Also, you had to have a minimum of 3 meats to be able to cook it at the table. I had the beef dolsot bibimbap which was very good - i would highly recommend. However the service was slow even though it wasn't that busy. It was also very dimly lit and cold, yet you'd expect it to be warm as we had a bbq going. The prices are ok but a 10% service charge was added to card payers. Also the bathroom floor was very sticky and not very pleasant.

I went here with a group of 6. There was only one grill between us all which I did not think was right, considering that you would have one grill between two. The restaurant was not even busy so that could not be used as an excuse. In addition, we only got two plates of condiments between the 6 of us, where it should of been one between two. We had the buffet. I feel it was a bit over price for what we got. The meat was ok but nothing special and compare to other Korean restaurants I have tried. It does not compare well. The service was average, we felt rushed by the waitress for no reason when we was making our orders. All in all, it was not terrible but it was not amazing. We would probably not come again.

Me and my friends decided to eat here last week. It was my first time having korean bbq and I've heard great things. We ordered the buffet menu (came up to £30 per person) and the meat was fantastic. It was a nice experience cooking the food in front of us and the waitresses were always around if we needed anything. I was surprised they had japanese food there too.But I have a complaint. It was a cold day but even inside the restaurant, me and my friend found ourselves shivering- even though the BBQ was going. I expected to be a warm inside the restaurant and not feel like we were eating out in the street. That was one small thing that ruined the experience a bit.

I have been to many korean restaurants and always felt like waste of money. Hence i decided not to go any korean restaurants anymore. However, few weeks ago my friends made a plan to visit london and have a Korean BBQ. Even though i wasn't really interested for it, they insisted me. so, i thought to give one last try for Korean. we googled for korean restaurant and found Kalbi. Once we were there, i was really pleased with the Buffet menu. for 20 pound you get starters, sides like bibimbap and unlimited pork and chicken meat. WOW !! Only negative things i can say are service was bit slow in the beginning and drinks was bit overpriced, but who cares when you can enjoy generous BBQ buffet. And I went there again yesterday with my friends. everybody enjoyed the food. Honestly, compare to other restaurants i went before, Kalbi is the best in terms of Food and value for Money !!!

Ordered the buffet dinner. The price is reasonable for the value of the food, I won't say that the buffet menu is hard to understand. We really enjoyed the meat, especially the bulgogi. Servers are polite, especially the female owner. Would be better if they have more staffs, maybe adopt a caller on each table, and better ventilation, but overall a very nice experience.
