Great food, drinks and atmosphere

Really delicious Sunday roast. The beef was tender, the vegetables still a bit crisp and the gravy was bursting with flavour. Good cocktails too.

I went there with my husband, of course on a Sunday, to try their famous Sunday roast! What can I say, it was delicious! We had the lamb and it melted in our mouths — not to mention the gravy, out of this world! The staff was young, well-prepared, attentive, and friendly! Unfortunately, I don’t live in London, otherwise I’d go back every Sunday!

Great food, staff trying their best however completely slammed. You get the sense that the owners are trying to squeeze as much out of service as they can. We went on a Sunday as had heard great things about the roast - and the food did not disappoint - however, it felt like a factory with staff rushed off their feet and not at all engaged with the customers. Service was really slow - We had to follow up on where our drinks were and then again for condiments. For the price, there are other places I think you can have a far better experience.

I came for Sunday roast and really enjoyed the atmosphere and food here. The service was good, very attentive. We ordered sourdough bread with beef dripping and butter, simple but DELICIOUS. Then continued to order our roast lunch. The quality of the food was great with all the usual trimmings, I would have preferred a more medium rare beef, but it was more medium so a little tough. But otherwise a decent Sunday roast!

Impressively piss poor service. Came in at 8:30pm, beer garden was half empty so sat down waiting to be served. An Australian waiter came and said, 'it's bookings only' despite the outside and plenty of interior being free with spots to serve. Awful service, wouldn't bother coming

Incredible meal, sirloin super tasty, definitely get the bread to start too. The old fashioned with the buttery fudge is the only old fashioned I drink! Really lovely service just could have done with another set of hands (a little slow.) Absolutely will be back

If you are fan of smoked beef big cuts on the bone, this is the place for you. Fat-cut chips and some salad, plus a beer to wash it all down. Get one of the tables with a view of the big open and you are set!

Went for dinner with some friends last weekend. The place wasn't incredibly busy (a couple of big tables, which we all know can be tricky, but apart from that nothing too out of the ordinary). Still, it took over 30 minutes for someone to come and get our order. First red flag, but the dinner hadn't started yet and we did not mind waiting. We ordered a couple of starters, as we didn't want to overeat before the meat which was supposed to be the centrepiece of the dinner (it's a steak restaurant!). Nothing special about the starters, take it or leave it - apart from the tartare which contained a lot of low-quality mayo, something I hadn't seen anywhere else and that made it taste more like a meaty coleslaw than a tartare - definitely not what we were expecting. We ordered some pretty expensive steaks (we knew the price in advance, not complaining about a bad surprise money-wise, but it's right to put things into perspective. This is not a cheap place). First off, we were informed that one of the two cuts we wanted was no longer available, so the board wasn't updated. Fine, it happens. The meat came, the cooking point was right. Big issue with the meat was that it was not aged at all, although it was clearly advertised as 64 days matured beef. Flavour was also completely absent. Texture was great, but one would think some taste was to be expected. Nope. If you're going for the aged beef and are prepared to pay for it, don't bother. We had to order sides separately, which I also found strange - they normally come with the meat if you're paying that price. Dessert selection was as bland as the meat. I tried the chocolate cheesecake which was I think 90% butter? On the positive side, wines were very good (although it has to be said we ordered two bottles in the region of £100 per bottle, so I was expecting them to taste good). If you're going for a quick bite, no-frills, pub-like experience, than maybe you'll enjoy this place. But for £140 per person you are far better off going for two dinners of £70 somewhere else, you'll get the same quality and experience but at least you'll get two meals out of it.

I went to this restaurant when they had just opened as my daughter sampled their burger an had to have her own one! the restaurant was immaculately clean, the service was amazing they made me and my kids feel very welcome and gave us recommendations which was very appreciated and the food itself was stunning, I cant wait to return!

We visited Saturday evening for dinner with friends. Very disappointed with the food, first impression was that nothing on the menu is actually smoked (funny for a place called smokehouse) apart from the anchovies, which are served with tinned red peppers. Tartare was really chunky and tasted of mayonnaise?! Anyhow, meat was cooked as requested however didn’t have any aged flavour neither felt premium for £100+ per steak. Also you would expect sides to be served with the steak but no, only sauce comes with it so add £12-18 for sides on the price. Wine list is good same as the cocktails , dessert menu is very simple almost boring I’d say. We won’t revisit

I've booked my birthday lunch with friends here and came by a couple of weeks before to check out the place. It's a gorgeous gastropub, great vibe, nice options for outside and inside, monthly special cocktails list etc. When I told th3 staff that I had a reservation in a a couple of weeks time, they looked it up and showed me my table (which I didnt ask for). All very nice and attentive so I was excited and thought we'd be looked after well and I will have a nice birthday celebration. HOWEVER, when I arrived on Sunday, we were seated at a table which wasn't the one that I was told I'd get, it was right in the draft of the garden door, half the table was almost in the busy pathway for the staff eushing around so my friends had their jackets falling on the floor etc, it was very unpleasant. When I asked to me moved, I got an almost snappy response that they can't promise special tables and they will see if they can move us (I never even asked about which table to get in the first place, they just showed me back then, I assume now, it is just their show off table) Shorlty after, we were moved to another table (still not the one that I was shown, but ok) We ordered some beers, a bottle of wine and also cocktails (the latter was delicious) the wine was warm, the beer was good... We ordered various Sunday roasts to share and try between us.... now, let's start with the good firstly - the meat was delicious But that was it! The potatoes were stone cold, the Yorkshire puddings were burnt and cold, the veg was ok but so hot that we wondered if it came out of the microwave and the gravy was bland and just warm. We told them all this (weren't asked but had to grab the attention) and they cleared our plates and came back with another set of food and plenty of extra potatoes and veg, to make up for the bad quality, I assume. I think it was just reheated to be honest. The potatoes weren't nice, they were hotter but not nice, the Yorkshire pudding were still burnt..... And they brought so much food because they just made extras of everything (I would have preferred quality over quantity) We had a crumble at the end (delicious) to share between us 6 and I got a scoop of vanilla ice cream with 1 candle for my birthday from the staff. On the bill they charged us for everything (even the crumble, all the drinks and dishes) despite the food not being great, which is just slightly disappointing. Overall very bad The service did replace the cold food etc but it always also just seemed as an inconvenience to them Sad birthday meal

I have been coming here for years - the Sunday roast is really amazing and to be honest it has gotten better (in particular the gravy, thicker with deeper flavour). The beef is really good quality and the Yorkshire puds are delish. Staff are friendly and kind (however when I doggy bagged my dessert I wish they had given me a proper container instead of pouring it into some aluminium foil which wasn’t ideal but whatever - no biggie). Overall definitely worth stopping by. P.s. the bread and butter starter is worth the calories, go for it.

Had to cancel my booking soon after making it due to illness. Was unable to do so online, had to call the restaurant. Phone line did not work, despite multiple calls over several days. Eventually got through to sister restaurant who said to call back in an hour but still did not work. Emailed as well but received no reply. Restaurant charged cancellation fee. Dreadful service.

Disgraceful service. Spent several hundred pounds with clients at this place. Left an expensive cashmere hat behind. Tried calling them for a week (waste of time, it went through to a totally different restaurant in the same group), left them multiple voicemails, and emailed them twice to arrange return. They couldn’t be bothered to respond - even to say they didn’t have it. Service and steak on the night also average - AVOID —————- In response to your reply, I ate there thursday last week. So you definitely didn’t just re-open this evening. If you want to reply directly, check your voicemails for my details. Or even better, just tell me if you have my hat.

Very disappointing! Initially we were sat by the toilets so asked to be moved which they did. As a Smokehouse I expected to have a great Sunday roast.. it was terrible! I was misguided by being told the pork was pork belly. It was overcooked , dry and not sure what part of the pig it was but certainly not the belly! Roast potatoes were nice but had obviously been sitting around for a while and not fresh out of the oven and certainly not crispy .. I’d go so far as to say a tad soggy! Food was lukewarm warm and the apple crumble to share ( if you can call it that) more like apple with a dusting of crumble was very mediocre ( some bits of fruit hard) with measly amount of custard given for two people that I had to ask for more! We were then asked for the table back before I had even finished my wine as they were very busy and needed the table back. We were made to feel this was ok as we should be so grateful not to be sat by the toilets! Would I go back.. never! A local friend asked about my experience as he had been meaning to go for a while so I told him not to bother.. totally overpriced roast and not worth it .. my fellow diners agreed too. Good luck if you decide to go and I hope you have a much better experience than I did!

Pretty average meal to be honest. Most of the options on the steak menu were sold out/unavailable (we were eating at 7pm). Steaks took over an hour to come out but were cold when they were served. £5 mixed leaf salad was a tiny bit of bagged lettuce with some dressing. Bread was clearly sliced a few hours before dinner - at first I wasn't sure whether it was toasted or not (it wasn't, just dry). Hispi cabbage itself was cooked well but is a pretty random dish - sriracha and a sprinkling of chopped up raw tomatoes with some store bought wraps...This place isn't cheap and there are plenty of pubs/restaurants where you can get a significantly better steak for the same price/less. Pub is cute and nice. Will stick to pints if I ever go back

Best roast I’ve been to in London. I’d highly recommend the lamb shoulder (to share for 2) it was delicious, flavourful and plenty. Don’t get me started on the enormous Yorkshire pudding, it was love at first sight. There’s a great buzzy and warm atmosphere yet you’re still able to get a decent service and the attention of waiters when needed. I’m already planning a return trip 🤩

Al acercarse, buen edificio, frescos asientos cubiertos al aire libre y algunas llamas / calentadores agradables. Bienvenido por el personal agradable y mostrado a nuestra mesa. Imprescindible para reservar, fue embestido. Estábamos sentados cerca de la cocina, así que pronto vimos lo deliciosos que se veían los pudines de Yorkshire - gran tamaño. El lugar era extremadamente ruidoso, así que si lo que buscas es una charla tranquila, probablemente quieras buscar en otro lugar. Los perros son bienvenidos en el Smokehouse. Un cupé de opciones en el menú, algunos compartidores. Todo lo que recibimos fue agradable. Me gustaría haber visto el brócoli de tallo tierno como estándar, tristemente no fue el caso. La carne de res se cocinaba a la perfección, el queso de coliflor era sabroso (y no suelo ser de los que lo hacen). Cordero se cayó del hueso - fabuloso! Postre - sabio - El crumble de manzana era encantador, aunque un poco más duro crumble habría sido bueno. Pudín de toffee pegajoso ahogado en salsa, pero entiende que es agradable. En general, agradable almuerzo de domingo - ciertamente lleno (hinchado) después.

Great time there for a Sunday roast with my family from France about a month ago, Macie took very good care of us, would highly recommend the place and the service.

Excellent vibes, we managed to get the comfy chairs next to the fire place! The roast was good but not remarkable. A bit small portions for the price.

Beautifully tender steak. I’m known to be very fussy. It was by far the best steak I’ve eaten out in years. The waitress Scarlett was gorgeous and very helpful. We ate at 5.30 so probably didn’t even see the place at it’s best. Will definitely be back.

Had a family dinner free to celebrate a wedding. The service was great, food exceptional and all round great experience!

This place is amazing!! Went for date night and the rump was absolutely delicious!! Im Argentinian so I know my meat, and this was cooked perfectly! Theo was also very kind and attentive, gave wonderful hospitality.

Always a pleasure to come back here. Nice atmosphere, complete menu and amazing service. Great meat selection. Thanks again to the staff for solving the minor problem in such a great way. I’ll be back for sure.

Been here before but went for a Sunday roast and everything was incredibly bland with the lamb being dry and potato’s tasting like they were reheated. Now need to find a new roast spot.

Me and friend, went here Friday, and I must say it was amazing, it's the first time iv been there but it's one of the best places iv eaten this year. Good atmosphere very friendly stuff. Evrything I tryed was great, the sandwich was good to, but I think it needs a bit more flavour but was good. At first you mite think not enough food for the price but believe me it was more than enough food and very filling. Iv let my friend know about this place so expect atleast 200 more new customer. So I came here for a Sunday roast.The atmosphere was gorgeous, the waitress that tended to me 1st was absolutely lovely and recommended a wonderful cocktail that I enjoyed. We also had a dog with us and the establishment/this particular waitress was very accommodating (water bowl and Doggy treat which is a lovely touch) However, we ordered food with a different waiter and we waited around 50 mins since ordering our food for it to arrive luke warm with no apologies in sight. Definitely a spot thats worth a visit but, understand that it's hit and miss in terms of what you'll get food and servwise.

Booked a table for 2 where I confirmed my card details at the time of booking and received an active card check. Received an email 24 hours before to confirm my reservation, clicked on the link the following morning to be told my reservation was cancelled. I called the restaurant when they opened and spoke to 2 of the rudest staff members I’ve ever encountered, who firstly said I hadn’t put in my card details, and then a man told me that it was because I hadn’t confirmed it in time, and then that it was because I had obviously cancelled it myself (?) When I asked him why I would then be calling, and if anyone was going to at the very least apologise for what was obviously a system error he hung up on me. It is now too late to find a table somewhere else, and our anniversary meal has been ruined.

Great steaks, lovely sides, welcoming staff. A little noisey from time to time but otherwise, a real hidden gem.

Good food but ambiguous service. Polite and friendly but order mistakes without compensation; date pot found in the toffee and the waitress is like yeah that's normal... Slightly sketchy.

Service was terrible. Firstly we were questioned about our booking we'd made. Then after showing proof of booking was then shown to a table that was available anyway. The service from that point didn't improve. Just didn't feel like anyone was in charge of service. Food was very nice, and good atmosphere.

Such a lovely experience. The staff are the best, we were asked if we wanted to move as we had our wee dog with us and we were originally seated in the middle of an aisle direct to the kitchen. I found this so considerate. We were then seated in a corner with loads of space for the dog. The food was excellent. I can’t fault a single thing. Our server was also so kind and attentive. I don’t have a single fault. Keep on doing what you’re doing smokehouse.

For a place that has had a long-standing reputation for having a great Sunday roast, Smokehouse still continues to be the same as always. However, the one thing that has put things into perspective as to whether or not I’ll ever come back again is the bad service. Overall, things seemed chaotic and even taking our initial drink and food order took half an hour from the moment that we sat down. Apparently, we had been sat down in a table for 6 when we had a reservation for 3 people. This meant that the staff were waiting for “the rest of our party to arrive”? Someone could have simply looked at our table setting and realised that the table had been set for three people from the start! Either way, I’d like to point out that most places ask for your drink order within minutes of being sat whilst you take time to decide what you wish to eat. Not here it seems. In addition, what really threw me off guard was that we finished our first drinks before our Sunday roast dinner arrived (which took ages) and no one ever came to ask if we wanted more drinks. We pretty much had to flag down a staff member whenever we ran out of water or wanted a glass of wine with our dinner. To add more insult, as we finished our food or drink, not a single member of staff came to remove the empty plates and glasses from our table — the used dining and glassware just started to accumulate. Overall the general observation after not having been to Smokehouse for two years is that the quality of the food is great but the service is bad given the price point of the pub. I believe front of house can improve by better communicating with the waiters as to who will be in charge of which table. Our experience is that no one seemed accountable for a designated area of tables at the pub. This recent experience has put us off from dining here again. We live locally and I can assure you that there are plenty of good pubs around with better service.

A great roast, huge portion and delicious in a cosy atmosphere. We were kicked off our table after 2 hours and weren't given that info when booking but apart from that everything was great. Good veggie options.

Bonito restaurante en una ubicación residencial escondida con buena comida y gran servise. Nos encontramos con amigos que viven cerca o de lo contrario nunca habríamos encontrado este lugar. Su asado del domingo, especialmente el cordero era tan suave y tierno! No te olvides de guardar espacio para el postre, ya que el pudín pegajoso es el mejor que hemos tenido en Londres. Sin duda recomiendo!

We had a fantastic dining experience at Smokehouse. We tried the beef roast, porchetta and veggie wellington – and all of them were absolutely delicious! The service was excellent, and our waiter, Alicia, was attentive, friendly, and so sweet, which made the experience even better. Definitely a place I’ll be coming back to!

To be honest I am quite disappointed. We booked a table to celebrate both my birthday and my bestie, recommended by friends so we thought it was going to be a better experience that it was. Our waitress was very nice, no complaints about her but the food the other waiter and the management team could do way better. First of all cocktails were ok, but in general the place is overpriced for the experience we got… when we ordered the beef, we asked if my friend could have it medium well as it was too pink for her and they said was not problem. When food come both beef roast were same (medium rare)for me is perfect but my friend can’t eat that pink, so we ask the other waiter who served the food and he said they are cooked the same and there is no changes,I said our waitress said we could have one of both more cooked,he ask how we would like it (MW) and left with a bad face and saying it was going to take time(we were absolutely ok with that) my friend received the beef just 5 mins after but quite well done, it was super dry and overcooked.Our waitress ask how was, we said was too done and my friend said was dry but she also said was ok because she doesn’t like to complain.We finished and they gave us dessert menu. We ordered two dessert (which tbh were very good) but no happy birthday or candles or nothing else was done. When we were about to finish dessert the waitress came to apologise and explain that the kitchen made a mistake with my friend’s beef and her dessert was going to be free. When my friend went to the toilet I said to the waitress about the note I made about our birthdays and how they didn’t do anything special and I said please next time be aware of notes or requests (i do work in hospitality and I really don’t like to complain but to be honest all of this makes our birthday celebration quite disappointing. We paid and waitress gave us a glass of prosecco bc of the mistake (we don’t like bubbles) I wouldn’t come here again. Very disappointing experience

I am a De Beauvoir local and visited the Smokehouse for the first time thanks to a friends recommendation. I had a fabulous Sunday roast (the beef was so succulent). The restaurant has a really nice overall atmosphere, attentive and efficient staff and an excellent wine selection. Really good value for money and a great go-to place for Sunday roast!

I have dined here a couple of times and each time is equally as lovely as the last. Staff are super friendly and attentive. The food was delicious as well. Will definitely be back :)

I want to love this place. However, the three times I’ve tried this place over the four years I’ve lived in Angel prove why I need to officially give up. The servers are extremely rude and ruin the experience every time. Food may be good but I’d rather go to all the other nice restaurants in Islington that serve amazing food and don’t give you an attitude and treat you like an inconvenience

Horrible bar service. Rude servers. Ordered a beer 15 minutes ago, asked the servers and they rolled their eyes. Still waiting. Would have left if I hadn’t already paid for my drink. Edit: I’m all for providing a fair review and a simple apology for rude bar staff would have sufficed. Instead, the manager singled me out from my group and told me that I’m in the wrong, saying that he checked cc tv footage and had actual bar ticket time stamps to prove me wrong. Look, I don’t care. I just want a beer. The fact he came out and told me what I experienced is a lie even though he wasn’t actually there for it is a pretty good representation of my 1/5 review. Thanks!

A really good Sunday lunch (sirloin and lamb) with a terrific selection of snacks and nibbles to start. Everything was excellent, food, drinks, service but please, please serve the meals on hot plates. That is the only critism, everything else was brilliant. We will definitely come back.

He estado aquí un par de veces en los últimos años para reunirme con amigos que no veo mucho. En esta ocasión fue una experiencia terrible. Aparte del personal era bastante eficiente Zoe era encantadora. Los vinos de la casa son absolutamente rancios. Tuve que enviarlos de vuelta. El Gavi con el que normalmente no puedes equivocarte no era muy agradable por £ 57 era horrible. El entrante que tenía era el cangrejo. Apenas había cangrejo por casi £ 16 fue una estafa. y no muy agradable. La hamburguesa principal estaba por debajo de la media en el mejor de los casos, por casi £ 23 otra estafa. El desmoronamiento por el desierto fue lo único decente, eso fue agradable. Luego, para colmo, la camarera volvió a nosotros cuando nos íbamos ya que habíamos pagado £ 2 corto entre nosotros. Esto es de un proyecto de ley que tenía un cargo por servicio discrecional de £ 75. Ella nos dijo que su jefe no estaría feliz si ella era baja. ¡Eso te dice todo lo que necesitas saber sobre quién dirige este lugar! Ninguno de nosotros nos quejamos ya que solo nos reunimos anualmente, y no queríamos quitar el foco de atención de lo bien que lo pasamos viéndonos y poniéndonos al día. Votaremos con los pies la próxima vez y no iremos aquí. ¡Se ha ido por la sartén! ¡EVITA!

Had bought guests who were visiting all the way from Japan for steak. Service was not great. Waited over an hour for mains. Kept having to flag people down for attention. Had to ask for steak knives after the mains had arrived. The aubergine main was super oily. So we’re the green beans. I also wish they offered more potato options instead of chips AND fries. This is our local and I have given plenty of chances but have found both the food and the service lacking on a few occasions.

Their beef was so nice and tender. Juicy and tasty. The best roast in London so far. Their dessert was very nice, too. Staff members are all nice and friendly. The atmosphere was great. They have both indoor and outdoor tables and all nicely set up with proper fabric napkins.

Second visit in two weeks. Food both great on both occasions. Service better on the first time. I think this was down to on the first visit last sun it was busy. You could tell they were fully staffed and morale was high. Today, service was OK, a bit meh. On a different note I wish the rusty out door furniture was replaced along with the "Ash trays". For all my moaning it's a great pub and unfortunately live just a bit too far to make it my local. Will be back.

Roast was delicious, good quality beef and super tender. Good amount of food and a nicer roast than I’ve had in many places. Service was pretty poor but saved by the manager. Sitting close to the kitchen was unbearably warm and no windows or doors open left it quite stuffy. Negroni was nice 👌🏼 would come back for a roast on a sunny day and sit in the garden !

Lovely spot especially in summer, excellent selection of steaks but prices are steep... good idea to share. Great selection of beers.

We booked a reservation for dinner at 17.30 for 2 people and when we arrived and we saw the steak board most of the items were sold out. The menu online was from May and the menu on the open table from which i made the reservation from was also wrong as both were showing cuts for smaller portions such as 200gr etc while on the restaurant we were advised that all of the steaks were for sharing. We asked the waitress for any alternatives as we didnt want to share for other cuts for smaller portions and she went to ask the Chef and advised us for some additional cuts which again were only sharing. We asked if we could cancel the reservation and she agreed on that. I would suggest that the menus online are updated to reflect the actual menus and also have more cuts available for dinner also.

Amazing roast! We had the beef and the pork and they were both incredible. The sticky toffee pudding is one of the best I have ever had, the caramel sauce was incredible! And the pear and rhubarb crumble was absolutely amazing!

Absolutely exquisite from beginning to end. The quality of food and menu options were delightful with refreshing pairings of flavours and beautifully presented. I opted for the wagyu feather blade which was so beautifully tender and cooked perfectly. The sides were to die for, crispy and golden chips with a hispi cabbage salad, without being too heavy. A commendation has to be given for the drink selection at the Smokehouse, carefully handpicked ales and lagers, and even a non-alcoholic lager on tap which was a perfect addition to some of my guests who didn’t want to drink but didn’t want to compromise their taste buds that were craving beer! Cocktail list is unique with subtle twists on the originals that work superbly well. Desserts were to die for and service perfect as usual. A gem of a pub nestled in Islington, with a terrace and small, intimate and romantic garden set just off a Georgian stunning interior. 10/10 would recommend and will be returning soon!

Had such a lovely dinner with my family tonight in their garden, we started with their scotch egg and their taramasalata, followed by the steak from their dry aged steak board. Did we order 3 potato based sides? Maybe. But everything was delicious and even had enough room after the carbs for dessert surprisingly, which was a sticky toffee pudding. We left completely full and satisfied. Definitely a good must visit restaurant and garden this summer.

We had an good experience here. Staff were very attentive. Atmosphere was rather nice. Food was good. I feel like this is a restaurant that can play to most eaters, provide a nice time out but isn't going to blow you away. Padron peppers were a treat. The cheese burger was quite nice although the plating option didn't give much space for juices to drip. Would come back here for a non- divisive group outing. Oh and best sticky toffee pudding I've had in a long while. Amazing.

Came here for the steak but was pleasantly surprised by the chocolate cheesecake which was divine - the texture is not overly heavy and almost felt like ice cream yet very flavorful. Would def came back for the cheesecake.

Amazing roast with lots of gravy

Just had Sunday lunch, the beef was tough, and vegetables mediocre. Paid £13.00 for a small glass of wine (outrageous)! £5.00 service charge and £1.23 for carbon dining? Total bill was £45.27 just for a main course and glass of wine, extortion; what a rip off. Never again!Addendum: carbon free dining. You sound very angry and I would suggest you take some time to reflect. I'm surprised and disappointed you feel the need to react rather than respond. Not good hospitality regardless of my opinion. I was courteous and polite to the staff and no condescension intended despite your offensive connotations.

Super cozy with a wide selection of cuts cooked to perfection

Upscale lunch gastro pub with a fireplace that is unique in the neighbourhood. They have a great steak, which I had for my first lunch at this place. On my second visit my cheeseburger was slightly burnt but the fries were outstanding as they were crispy and soft and not soggy or creamy. Many other places just see fries as a side dish that doesn’t deserve attention and I usually avoid them for that reason. Get the regular fries here but not the chunky ones. The chunky fries don’t look appealing. ☺️ Very dog friendly.

Don't get me wrong this place is pretty damn good; I would go again probably. If it weren't so expensive this review would be kinder. However, both the cocktails and the food whilst gourmet priced were merely average in both quality and execution; ambitious and with good aspects but missing the mark in places. I try not to score service lower than 4⭐ casually because it's a back breaking ill-rewarded job - but the people we dealt with whilst very polite were inattentive and had zero knowledge of the menu, having to go down and ask the kitchen about the slightest detail. 🤷‍♂️ Maybe it was their first day. Both of them.

A pretty decent roast but it does sound like it was better in the past, have had better. Having said that, it’s a nice place and friendly staff.

The place was lovely, however the food definitely lacked any taste. Padron pepper portion was plentiful, but our chip portion was lacking. Alongside this, steak was rather flavourless as was the Mac and cheese. For £90, inc two drinks, I would expect better. For a steakhouse, there are many more in London I would recommend.

I’m local and quite a regular guest. It has a super, convivial atmosphere. On this visit, 5 friends shared some steaks and sides. Mostly good - the ribeye was better than the sirloin which was a bit chewy. Fat chips were a tad too crispy/bitsy. Dog friendly.

It’s noisy, but we come back, because the place is nice and the food is very good. THANKS

I think this place is included on lists for best roasts in London, but it’s pretty average. The meat was nice but the roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings tasted like they were days old and soggy. I’ve been twice in the last 6 months and had the same experience both times, so wouldn’t recommend at all if you’re looking for a Sunday out.

Josh was our server and he looked after us very well. Very pleasant and friendly. Was very attentive and seems to really enjoy his job. A credit to your establishment. Food was lovely and the icewine was the winner of the evening.

We ordered a couple of starters and main meals. We had steak and rib of beef. Really good quality food and lovely service. It was my daughter’s birthday celebration and we received free glass of bubbly. Also recommend the 2 for 1 cocktails!

Decent roast! The sourdough with beef dripping, and the anchovy fillets were also great. I could have done with a steak knife for the beef sirloin tbh, and I didn't realise sauces were available until the table next to me were asked if they wanted any. Would definitely go back!

An hour and a half for dinner is pretty rushed, but they shooed us out in a hurry.

I had the Sunday roast beef. I Came here as was told for a long time that this is one of the best roast in Islington. I had high expectations on the food quality. The beef 🥩 was okay but not crazy good for £26, vegetables were disappointing with potatoes too hard and carrots bland. The Pudding was dry and the gravy sauce too watery. One of my friend took the fish and was also disappointed as it was dipped in butter. Overall we had a good time but the food was just of a standard quality for us. Note that the Service was good.

10/10 the food was phenomenal- as was the service so much attention to detail on simplistic food! Would recommend!

The quality of the food here has continued to decline for the past few years. I am a neighbor and have eaten here dozens of times. Something has definitely happened in the past few years. Around 2018-2020 the food was spectacular (everything). Now, everything including the bread is sub par. It’s such a shame because the atmosphere is cozy and beautiful. I am hoping they turn it around again. They finally introduced a burger and somehow it’s terrible. Game-y cheese (not right for a burger) and brisket, yet the meat itself is bland the bun is “fine” at best.. what can I say, I gave it a chance.
