Visited with my elderly friend … food was very bland and extortionate for what we had … won’t be returning

This was my first visit to The Railway Inn for over 20 years and it was an enjoyable one. I was having lunch with my parents and I found the interior of the pub to be very pleasant and welcoming. There were a lot of photos from the days when the railway line used to serve Juniper Green, Currie and Balerno along with rail related items on the walls. The food was enjoyable and arrived promptly at the table. I'd certainly consider a return visit.

Have eaten here many times. Never disappointed. Today I was there with party of 7 friends one of whom was celebrating his 90th Birthday. Food was lovely, well presented and piping hot. Great service from ever friendly bar staff, always smiling and helpful. Amazing surprise at the end of the meal when a Birthday Cake was brought to the table! Can't recommend enough.

Este es un pub familiar.El personal es muy bueno y brinda un servicio de primera clase.Se venden 4 cervezas reales. 2 son regulares y 2 son cervezas invitadas.Propietario y Deuchars son los regulares.No puedo alabar a Landlord lo suficiente, ya que es lo mejor.También hay una gran variedad de cervezas de barril y una gran variedad de whiskies y ginebras.Vino y champán también está disponible.El pub también vende almuerzos que son excelentes. .Hay un hermoso jardín de cerveza que está bien cuidado.

A very friendly pub, good atmosphere, great range of gins. Always good beer, friendly, efficient, knowledgable staff who know their stuff. Brilliant.

I turned up here with a friend to enjoy a beer after walking the water of Leith walkway. What a lovely choice of beer, great service and the beer itself was delicious. They know how to keep and serve real ale here.We didn't eat here, but if the food is as good as the beer it would be worthwhile. The bus stop for Edinburgh city is right outside so no extra walking for our tired legs.

Visited The Juniper Green Inn last month and had an amazing lunch. It’s so reasonably priced so we will definitely be back. The service was excellent and all the staff looked after us. So nice to find a traditional pub offering excellent food. Highly recommended.

This pub has a real nice feel to it with a cosy atmosphere and lovely staff. Never tried the food but the draft beer and ales are excellent. The better pub in Juniper Green area.

Fantástica relación calidad-precio y una excelente selección de comidas. Dos o tres cursos por menos de 25. Excelente presentación y excelente cocina gracias a un gran chef y su equipo. La opción vegetariana era maravillosa al igual que los platos principales de la tarifa de Navidad. Gran variedad de cervezas y vinos. El servicio era muy bueno a pesar de que el restaurante estaba muy ocupado.

This pub has fantastic real ales, particularly Landlord. Great staff. It has a great menu for lunches.

We spent two days outside edinburgh and this pub has been done up since last visit and now both children and dog friendly with great garden area well looked after beer friendly staff and good food.What more do you want??

Fue con una fiesta para el almuerzo de Navidad, tan cálidamente bienvenida, esperamos maravillosamente, nos preocupó, y la calidad de la comida fue excelente en todo momento. Todos los de nuestro grupo estaban encantados con su comida: pato, ternera, bacalao, pavo.

Had Christmas lunch here today with a group of ex colleagues. Very convivial atmosphere with great food and excellent service.

Called in for lunch and were very glad that we did. The style of the building’s exterior is not the most welcoming but please do not be put off by that as you will be certain of a very warm welcome in a very attractive interior and will enjoy extremely good food at a very reasonable price. My wife had the steak pie which was delicious; tasty meat and wonderful pastry - not your normal piece of puff pastry stuck on top but proper pie with excellent pastry. I had the cod wrapped in Parma ham which was beautifully cooked and very tasty. The strawberry brandy baskets were a wonderful finish to a great meal. Staff were very friendly and helpful. All in all, a memorable lunch.

Menu offers choice of 3/4 starters 3/4 mains and 3/4 puddings. Traditional food prawn cocktails, pate, homemade soup etc., steak pie, sea bream etc and sandwiches and baked potatoes, apple crumble, sticky toffee pudding, cheesecake, menu changes daily. Generally frequented by the more mature diner.

I have been a few times for lunch. The food here is limited but excellent. Steak pie is particularly good, although not quite as good as it used to be!!!Soup and sandwiches, baked potatoes, starters or a choice of four or five larger main course choices and desserts. All freshly prepared and excellent quality.Wine choices are questionable unfortunately. Not a huge choice and what there is is not the best quality at all. Very disappointing. Superb Christmas Lunch. Only serve food until 2 which is such shame. Would be great if they served food in the evenings at least until about 8. That would be a huge bonus for locals as there is not the best choice for really good food in the area. I am sure it would be a great hit if they did introduced it. Lovely pub.

Popped in here with friends I had heard about there great reputation. staff were very friendly and attentive but the food was just ok. Not what I had expected Very average typical pub grub with no finesse pity really as I had high expectations I probably wouldn't return as it is out of my way and not worth the travel pretty sure it will suit local clientele

We jumped on a southbound 45 bus on Edinburghs North bridge, and in 20 minutes we arrived at Juniper Green. We had a great afternoon in the Juniper Green Inn, enjoyed an excellent Christmas dinner,met some great locals and was served by a faboulos and friendly staff..This was the highlight of our short visit to Edinburgh from Norway. Recommended, you will meet People who cares, and a simply great atmosphere!

Not often I'd review a pub,, but this is a delight. Charming mine host..the oldest barman in Edinburgh he says..always ready for a chat...like most village pubs now, this is heavily into food. I didn't eat but food looked great. Can't vouch for taste though. My other understandings are that present owner has been here since 1990. I knew the predecessor of this bar...The Railway Tavern..in the 1970's its improved much since though losing no charm. A proper local's local. Four real ales plus lagers etc great whisky selection.. I understand whilst meals are served up to 5pm they are not in the evening. Thank God I say. It's high time we drinkers had a break from the smell of food at the next table. All in all great local. Lucky the people who live hereabouts buses 44 and 45 stop outside. Keep up the good work please and remember the drinkers of the world!! Cheers. Andrew Mitchell

I often pop in here when visiting my family who live a wee walk away in Baberton.They have excellent choice of beers, fine sandwiches, and a smiling service.Well worth a visit.Pete C.

After a walk in the Pentland Hills we went down to Currie and had some lunch in the Juniper Green Inn. This is a modernised old roadside pub on the main Falkirk road. It has frosted glass windows and split doors to minimise the outside weather getting in on braw Scots evenings. Inside the décor and furnishings seemed dark after the bright sunshine outside. It was all very clean. Outside was a nice pub garden. The meal was pub standard grub and served by a friendly lass. It was quite good value but not memorable.

The pub food for dinner was very good, much better than I expected from a local (non-chain) pub. The menu goes beyond your average pub-grub and has some innovative dishes on there. Value for money is very good, too. The staff is very friendly.

lovely little pub,well run,spotlessly clean...good homemade food,freshly made, the bread and butter pud is wonderful!!! also great steak pie, don,t go if your looking for burger and chips, this is not a fast food place,but good old fashion fair,in very pleasant surrounds,with helpful staff.

Visited for mid week lunch, menu was two courses for £10, limited choices but food was excellent. Great value and tasty!

Its a great local pub... Folks are good in taking care of the customer... Weather permits, beer garden at the back of the pub is fantastic place to have your beers...

We left after a couple of pints because of 6 obnoxious men who stood blocking the doorway, refusing to allow patrons to enter easily and harassing an elderly couple who asked them to move so they could access a table. Staff should have asked them to move as they were blocking a fire exit and were preventing the flow of traffic through the pub and to the bar. Instead, they were allowed to stand there causing problems for everyone. Ridiculous!!

Great local, friendly staff and a good pint. Not suitable for kids but if it is a nice day there is a beer garden.

Found this pub from the CAMRA Good Beer Guide after a walk in the Pentlands on Boxing Day. Really friendly welcome from the bar staff. Will go back and try the good looking bar food next time.

This is a great pub, nice clientele and fantastic service. Everyone is so friendly. I have to say the food is well above bar food and the xmas menu was superb. There were 7 of us dining and we could not fault anything. There are extra little touches that make this bar a cut above the rest. Definitely to be recommended.

First time in this Inn. The best Xmas lunch I've had in a pub. Great value for money and loved the finishing touches on each of the courses I had. All for just under £20. Great choice of drinks. Staff very friendly and helpful. Nice atmosphere too.

Great pub in Juniper Green, good atmosphere and really friendly. Good for watching the football or just going out in the evening for a few drinks.

Always an excellent lunch choice with extremely good food. The steak pie is one of the best I have ever had. The puddings are classics and thde bread and butter pudding superb on a cold day. Presentation and service way above average pub. Highly recommended but why did they change the name from the long loved Railway Inn?

I have stopped off in this pub several times for food, coffee or drinks during the day and have always been impressed. The staff are extremely friendly, welcoming and accommodating - in stark contrast to some of the pricier and supposedly more metropolitan efforts in Edinburgh itself. It's nice to feel that your custom is important to them.The menu isn't extensive but it does change regularly and the food is always excellent quality. I have never had a bad meal in here (they do a superb steak pie). The food is also very reasonably priced.They have a bit of a garden area at the back which is lovely to sit out in during the nicer weather.I can't comment on it's atmosphere in the evening's as I have only been in during the day but I'm sure it would be a perfectly pleasant local pub to have a drink in.It is also quite handily placed just off the Water of Leith Walkway and so is a good place to stop along the way.

Always has been known as the railway inn, and always will be, just a small local bar,attracting local clientele, nothing special.
