Jumunjy Thai Restaurant & Bar @ The Old Post Office in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

We paid an impromptu visit for lunch. Jumunjy has been decorated with amazing hand built features that can escort you back to a village in a remote part of Thailand.. We loved it and although it was quiet (we were early)It was atmospheric. I can imagine it buzzing with people and great music. We have had takeaways from here but eating in is an experience..Nikki and Mark one Saturday in March.. ☺️

The best sweet and sour chicken of all time! The staff are lovely and the restaurant is very cool!

The tastiest, most authentic Thai I have ever had (outside of West London). Wow! Now we know why they struggled to find us a table and we had to adapt our booking to come in at 1700. Extremely tasty, with genuine, quality ingredients. I had the monkfish cakes as a starter and my husband had the ribs. Then I tried my old favourite, green Thai curry with tofu. I can’t find enough superlatives to describe this meal. Not sweet and sickly like so many Thai restaurants are these days but instead, zesty, fresh, savoury. Now that is how a green Thai curry should taste! A sensational experience - we are extremely lucky to have this restaurant so close to us. The lighting also was homely and cosy, sort of mellow and very modern. It was good value for the depth of flavour and authenticity overall.

What a lovely place top marks for everything. So worth a visit.

First visit to this Restaurant, took my husband for a birthday treat and it did not disappoint. Lovely tasty meal, first class. So much choice and very helpful friendly staff. Looking forward to our next visit

The best Thai food I have eaten in a while. That with a cosy restaurant and fantastic staff makes for a 5 star meal out would highly recommend. I had a few drinks and starters and took most of the food home so fantastic value for money also

Delicious Thai food in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere. If you have already decided to visit the Lizard you know it’s a magical place and this makes a great stop off for lunch or post beach walk early dinner. Top flavours in the massaman and pad Thai. Monkfish fish cakes were top drawer. Definitely be back. Especially as this was an impromptu stop.

We were looking for a Thai restaurant when this little beauty popped up! Wow! What a delicious meal the four of us had and each of us sampled something different. If/when we are next in Cornwall we will make another visit a must! Flavoursome, fresh and delicious, well worth it! Great staff, atmosphere and genuine hospitality makes you feel special! Fabulous!

We had the most amazing dinner after a long hike in the area and were thoroughly impressed by the speed of food delivery and the taste of it. We met the owner and talked about the amazing transformation of an old post office into what you see before you. It feels like you could be anywhere in the world with cruisy music playing and fireplaces. Such an amazing experience!

The prawn cashew nut was simply delicious and also rate the veg fried rice! * Super kid friendly * Nothing too much trouble * Funky living wall, jungle props and shell floor * Bar looked awesome for a party too but was in the other end of the building so didn't disturb diners

My first visit here, great food with friends. 2 Even Better Ifs: train the staff away from 'you guys' as it takes away from the otherwise good service to a fastfood service. Also, consider slightly smaller portions. We all have a role to play to get to grips with obesity in our society, including restaurants 😇

We've eaten in and had takeaway from Jumunjy many times. Service is always fantastic and the vegan food is incredible. Such flavours! Would highly recommend if you're in the area, phone ahead as they do get busy.

We were seatied in the crèches. More children than adults most with little adult supervision. Music was absolutely atrocious, ‘rap’ crap. Actual Menus were dirty and well worn. Drinks arrived eventually but that was the only time we were asked about drinks. Service was unbelievably slow 1:20 minutes until entrees arrived. No apology and we even had to ask for our check!

Food was excellent. Very authentic as was the decor. Not cheap, but reflected in the quality of the ingredients. Staff very pleasant and patient to guide you through the comprehensive 33 page menu. Going back tomorrow!

A stunning little restaurant, quite unique. Excellent Thai food and cosy ambience.

My family and I decided to try this resturant out considering it was on our travels, we are a family of 6 and we asked a member of staff if they dinned for young children, which he just replied "yes". We were slightly confused at first what was the entrance, we then found the entrance and had to look for a moment for a member of staff and we were actually quite disappointed with the very blunt quiet staff we had. They didn't come over and check things were okay, if we wanted any more drinks ect, just sat us down and gave us a menu. We were quite surprised how expensive it was, but children were soo hungry so we decided to stay even though there really wasn't much for children, however we gave my 1 and 2 year odd bits off everyones plate as they don't eat too much, I got my son their version of kfc with a few chips, when they came out he had 3 very small chicken gourgon type breaded chicken, and about 6 small chunky chips, he was starving after still, and we had main meals and were shocked at how small the portion sizes were, we all came out starving, food was okay - nothing special and definitely wouldnt say it was amazing considering the prices, you'd expect higher standards. The biggest downfall here is the very unfriendly and no energy type staff with barely any social skills. Low standard food and too highly priced. When you have finished you havw to fins someone to bring you the bill, when they do they come and hand you a jumanji game type wooden box and because i only had notes i gave them over what i needed to and she shut the box and walked off and didnt come back with my change, just presumed it was a tip??, at this point i just wanted to get out the place with children crying ext still being hungry ect so I left after waiting a while, no one even asked if it was a tip or anything just didn't come back. When me and my partner revisit cornwall soon on our own without the children, we would avoid this place and also recommend others too also.

This restaurant was recommended to me. I really can't understand the hype though. We still managed to get a seat despite the restaurant being fully booked. Everyone was very friendly. It takes a while to find your way around. In my opinion, price/performance is not possible at all. We call it a dish for a hollow tooth. It was just far too little for the price and then I also had the shell on one of the 6 shrimps. The bowl/plate looks very large in the picture but was only about 20 cm and only filled by one centimeter. £20 for that - unbelievable. Maybe like a soup ladle in terms of mass. The taste was okay, but it wasn't a high-flyer. Oh, the rice had to be ordered separately for £2.50, otherwise I would only have had the one ladle of sauce with 6 prawns. I wouldn't want to go here again and wouldn't recommend it to others.

We ordered Pad Thai spring rolls Pad see yu with chips. The chips were ok. That’s all I would like to say without getting angry considering the prices they charge. Avoid

Stopped here on our travels after a long day, there was some confusion on our behalf as my boyfriend had ordered for take away and I thought we were to dine outside. I ordered my food inside and went to go and join my partner. Moments later a waiter came to tell us about the confusion whether we both wanted to take away or not - we are really easy going and said sorry for the mix up and we were happy to sit outside whatever was easier for them. The waiter seemed to be a little short with us and just asked me bluntly to come and pay which of course was not an issue. He forgot my drinks and I had to ask again he seemed a miffed off for the trouble. Working in hospitality for 10+ years I just found his demeanour very abrasive and would be very disappointed if my staff conducted themselves in this way. Hoping that this attitude wasn’t a reflection of the food we sat and waited for it (waitress who brought it was lovely). Sat in the car to check and the dissatisfaction just kept rolling, tempura veg was mushy and tasteless - could not differentiate what vegetable was what. Pad Thai was the most bland I have ever tasted, and to my surprise the waiter had put on pork ribs instead of bbq so it was a lovely dry meal for me. Boyfriend’s red curry was ok but the majority went in the bin such a shame after reading lovely reviews and spending over £60. As we’re not local we won’t be coming back but if we were i certainly wouldn’t be in a rush to dine again

The food was very tasty and the atmosphere and staff were great. There were Gf Vegan options. Only complaint is we asked for the food very spicy and it came out with lots of chillies but they weren't particularly spicy at all, we asked for more chopped chillies but they were still mild, don't know if this is a Cornwall thing as we have had similar thing at other restaurants here. Overall great food and restaurant tho!

We stopped by this restaurant by chance. And what a surprise!!! Impeccable service, waitress of absolute helpfulness and kindness and very good advice. Absolutely delicious cuisine, generous portions, a treat for the taste buds of young and old. I highly recommend to all backpackers!

Very good cuisine. If you are not an insider, you need some time to get your bearings or seek advice. Completely friendly service. Nice rustic atmosphere. Large selection of wines and good beers. Price ok. Located right on the street. Plenty of parking spaces.

Ate here on the recommendation of a taxi driver. There was still a table available without a reservation. Nicely received and wide choice on the menu. Delicious food and great service. Beautiful interior, tastefully decorated.

Came here for my wife's 40th birthday. If you have never been here then you are missing out on something very very special. The food is to die for, it's absolutely gorgeous. The staff were very professional and friendly. You couldn't ask for more. The restaurant decoration is gob smacking. We will be using here on a regular basis. All I say is do the same. You won't be disappointed.

This is a nice restaurant, This area of Cornwall has been crying out for some speciality cuisine restaurants. The food was good typical Thai cuisine. The Service though seemed a bit slow and a bit confused? Also, the atmosphere is a bit out of character for a Thai restaurant it felt more like a rustic burger street bar not a Thai one. Will I eat there again?..yes. I am sure it'll gow on me.

What a find. The atmosphere, the staff, the owner and the food all excellent. Honestly the restaurant is a gem. A breath of fresh air so far away from the maddening crowd. Soooo good. You will not be disappointed.

Had drinks here one evening and takeaway later in the week, gorgeous little hideaway! Although unassuming from the outside, stepping through the door is like entering a portal to another world of spicy goodness and delicious drinks. Very recommend!

Wonderful food and helpful staff. Modified my meal (stir fry) to be gluten and dairy free and it was amazing. Egg fried rice even on its own is super yummy. Will order again when in the area.

Like a meal with family... but in an awe-inspiring setting with gourmet chefs!! 😋🍻 I first came across Jumunjy in May 2018 when they were operating a takeaway service and was blown away by the quality, far exceeding that of restaurants at such good value! So ever since they opened their own restaurant, I’ve been itching to return! …just the small details of a global pandemic and it being 300 miles away from home to get past 😄 However, when I decided to return to Lizard for the first time for a birthday roadtrip, I knew exactly where I’d go for my celebration meal, and it honestly blew me away! Firstly, the staff are AMAZING, so so welcoming! Big shout-outs to Izzy, Karen, Roo, Rachel and Harry! This is a solo roadtrip but I felt like I was surrounded by friends! The decor is also incredible, creating an immersive and truly authentic feel of Thailand, and since they've built it all themselves, an incredible passion project! I also loved the fact that they have a separate bar area as well as the restaurant section, to relax in before/after the meal. This would absolutely be my local if I lived anywhere near them! The food was every bit as impressive as the two times I'd used the takeaway, creating masterful dishes that people simply wouldn't have the expertise to produce themselves. The seafood tempura was perfect, and the Hung Lay pork was divine, a fantastic balance of flavours and I'm definitely going to try to find somewhere in London where I can source the tasty roti flatbreads!! The portions were very generous, and the same can be said for the accompanying cocktails! Thank you again for a very special birthday, you've truly created something special!!

Wow wow wow and wow again, what an amazing place, everything about Jumunjy is just perfect, the service wonderful, the food amazing, the atmosphere just right. The staff know the right amount of attention to give without being over the top, the decor is great they have really worked hard and succeeded in making it feel different authentic. The food is portioned perfectly so as to satisfy but not over fill, the quality was excellent, very well done to all the staff including those behind the scenes. To the owners you should be very proud of your staff and thank you for delivering a wonderful dining experience.

Sadly the food was lacking any flavours. This included starters and main. Tempura vegetables where bland, pork skewers where barely marinated, the chicken curry lacked any depth and the Pad sea ew… well I could have just friend noodles at home and added soy sauce. Don’t bother!

What a gem! This place is just awesome. The ambience, the staff, the theming of the restaurant, let alone the quality of the food! Not just 'The Best Thai in Cornwall', this was *by far* the best Thai food we have *ever* had. Anywhere. Ever. It's a *must* visit!! I guess it's a case of: 'You can take the chefs out of Thailand but can never take Thai out of the chefs!' Thank you for a wonderful evening. We will be back!

Wow. Was given a voucher for this amazing restaurant. If I didn’t have the voucher, I wouldn’t have visited. Soo glad I did. The venue is decked out perfectly. You could almost be in Thailand. The staff are wonderful. So friendly and helpful and always have a smile. Then there’s the main attraction - the food. Absolutely gorgeous. The starter was lovely, but the Penang curry was “to die for”. This was my first experience of authentic Thai cuisine; I will definitely be going back.

This place is absolutely outstanding, the staff are super friendly and in a relaxed atmosphere. The staff seem to all have smiles and happy to be there. The decoration of the restaurant is stunning. The building is a old granite post office, but once you step inside its like you've been teleported into a Thai jungle. The food is incredible..... and we will be backl to try more of the menu!!

We were staying about 15 minutes away and ordered a meal for collection, which was available at the time booked. Staff were most pleasant, if a bit disorganised. However, the meals ordered, which comprised green Thai curry and various PhadThai dishes and rice, were totally stodgy and unbelievably flavourless. Completely disappointing, particulatly when paying well in excess of £100 for the meal. Would never recommend.

Although we arrived home with our takeaway with a couple of items missing that made some difference to our enjoyment, the food we had was very nice. After contact with a manager a full refund was offered and very much appreciated.

If you're looking for a great place to go and try for yourself, I highly recommend giving it a shot!

We visited Jumanjy on a recommendation from our air b and b hosts, while we visited Cornwall. We had originally planned to get a takeaway as we were travelling with our dog, but to our delight, the place was dog friendly, even the restaurant. Not only that, the food was excellent, the decor brilliant, the drinks selection was great and the service was wonderful. I wish we didnt live 7 hours away or this would be a regular visit.

Fantastic service with excellent food. My children enjoyed a curry and spare ribs. I had extra spicey noodles. It was just our family there celebrating a double birthday and I can't recommend this place more.

What a disappointment jumunjy was .Was really looking forward to this as a birthday treat.The food was bland and one dish came out cold.And the service was terrible .One staff member was awful and rude . Waited an hour and a half for the food and when l mentioned the food was cold the staff member just rolled their eyes .The dish came back hot but it was microwave for sure .Not impressed at all .look forward to your feedback on this .

We just had a large takeaway for 6 people and the food was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be ordering again. Not the first time we've had great food from Jumunjy. Please do go and pay this family run business a visit. You won't be disappointed.

It really is difficult to state what a great place this is . Food,drinks, atmosphere, staff etc etc all 100% If you want real Thai food- not the imitation stuff churned out by typical" Thai restaurants " then this is the place. And the range of bar drinks is equally appetising, prepared and served by friendly yet knowledgeable staff. The atmosphere...complete with a crashed plane (!) and waterfall Is perfect and complements the dining experience exactly. But this place obviously gets busy. So don't leave it too late to book !

If you love spicy foods well worth a visit

First Visit. The Tempura Prawns to start were Delicious. I personally don't like spices or anything hot so Not much for me to eat as a main meal. But my Husband Loves Spicey food so he was ok.

Great to see T and Bim again. Fantastic restaurant and Bar keeping up the traditional style from Jumunjy in Koh Phangan, Thailand. 🇹🇭
