Good quality food. The meat samosas are overpriced for what they are. They are very small and only 2 come in a portion.

Booked a table for 10 for 7.30pm-8.00pm on Saturday 28th September. Arrived at 7.45 and seated. Food was eventually served at 9.30pm by which time many of us were past eating TBH. 1h4 45min wait for food is totally unacceptable. Every time any of us asked when the food would arrive we were told '5mins, 5mins' I wasn't drinking so ordered sparkling water, that took 30mins to be served to me and had to chase up waiters numerous times. What makes it even more annoying is when other diners arrived after us yet were served their food before us. All we were served in the 1hr 45min wait for the main food, was a few papadums. I am not a massive 'spicy/hot/chilli' fan so I tend to go for foods that have the 'one chilli' symbol or less. I ordered the Seekh Kebab Mulmali, one 'chilli' rating and it was nice, a bit dry so the dip helped. Spice was OK for me, a bit firey but wasn't uncomfortable. For the main I ordered Shahi Makhmali Raan which was a leg of lamb marinated overnight in spices and slow cooked. Served as slices topped with gravy. ( From the wild North West Frontier) with plain rice I went for this as it didn't have any 'chilli' rating It came more as chunks than slices, which wasn't a major issue but was expecting slices. A couple of friends ordered the same, although they do like their spicey foods, but fancied a change. Now, their comments were 'wow this has got a fierce kick to it' and I was finding it very spicey. Others had the Nali Gosth ( Lamb Shank) Lamb shank, marinated with special spice, with onion & tomato gravy, cooked in a slow notion to gets its perfection. Garnished with ginger & coriander. This, as expected came on the bone, and the meat was falling off it. They tried our lamb, and as we felt, it was quite 'chewy' and also were surprised by the 'heat/spice' for a non chilli advertised food. In all honesty, it was far hotter/spicier that the Kebab that had 'one chilli' rating. I asked for another bottle of sparkling water, as I was struggling a tad with the heat. I asked twice and no water appeared, which I found extremely poor service indeed. All in all not a great experience and we won't be returning As we said at the time, if you can't accommodate a booked table of 10 on a Saturday night with service of a decent speed and standard then don't take the booking. The end of the night turned into a huge rush, throwing food down our necks as people had last trains to catch etc. We don't expect being swarmed by staff constantly, but we also don't wat to feel like we were being ignored, with others getting food before us. Once our food was served not once did any staff ask if everything was OK or if we needed more drinks, was extremely poor indeed. Just seen a few other 'reviews' from this year and seems they had a similar experience to us and wish we had read these before booking. Been going to Joy for many many years and this was a very poor experience. "There was a waiter we’d ask for more drinks, and he’d disappear never to be seen again!!" "Numerous times we’d ask if our food would be long and we kept being told only 5 minutes more…" "we waited over 2 hours to get food and an hour to get a drink!!" We've been to Joy a zillion times and it's always delicious: the food is really good and not oily. Portions are substantial, the staff are lovely, the setting is quiet, and service is fast but not at all pushy. We take all our visitors here.

The Food at joy is alway excellent. It’s by far one of the best tasting curry around. Staff are always friends as well. It’s would highly recommend it.

Horrible to say “this used to be a great place”, but sadly that’s our experience of Joy. All the things that made it a reliable and enjoyable dining venue seem to have been leeched away. The service is patchy. The food is slow to arrive and, on our last visit, was cold when it finally did. We also waited a shade over an hour for our food to arrive, and when it did the quality wasn’t brilliant; passable would be a good description. And the little things are lacking - the chutney trays are only half-filled, the place looks like it could use a deep clean… A customer getting stuck in the toilet after the door handle came off in their hand provided some comedy relief, mind you! We’ll be looking elsewhere for our curry fix from now on.

Chicken very dry in 3 dishes and sauce overly oily on 2 of them

Disappointed with my recent order, food ok just they are now drastically reducing the size of all their portions. What do they call it, "shrink-flation". After many years of using them, time to move on.

So delicious! Will be ordering again!

Unfortunately despite the food eventually being good, the service we were offered on a Saturday night was shocking. It took us an hour to order any food at all, and a further hour to receive our starters and mains (no idea why these weren’t brought separately). Numerous times we’d ask if our food would be long and we kept being told only 5 minutes more…There wasn’t even enough room on the table for all the food, so much so, we were simply being handed boiling hot plates which burnt my friends hand. There was a waiter we’d ask for more drinks, and he’d disappear never to be seen again!! After 30 minutes and asking 3 waiters for the bill, we went to the bar to try and pay and explained how disappointed we were by the service. No apology at all was offered and it seems an excepted way of working here - really disappointing as new to the area and looking for our home curry house. It won’t be here!!!

Everything was great, but the biryani came with raita instead of the vegetable gravy we ordered

It was delivered when said but it took a very long time and was cold. Food when heated was superb.

Wonderful dinner. I had to modify some of our dishes due to chilli intolerance. There was no issues doing that for me as everything was made to order.. it was all delicious and hubby's even got a good bag to have tomorrow.

Chicken in Korma was dry and for some reason they have changed the recipe for Murgh Makani and it's not as nice as the original

Excellent quality food at very reasonable prices with attentive (without being intrusive) service. Nothing not to enjoy. The salmon tikka was a highlight.

Spices are different from real authentic Indian tastes for biriyani, special fried rice was bland and needed a 1/2 teaspoons of salt for the single portions I ordered, don't know how much it would translate to the volumes you make in the restaurant

Unfortunately the curries were just generic gravy. Service was fine but the food really was poor, nothing authentic about it whatsoever.

Unusual for Joy but not a good order. chicken was dry and tough, masala tasteless and aloogobi very oily

Used to be such a great place but for the second time in as many months we waited over 2 hours to get food and an hour to get a drink!! Needless to say, we ended up eating elsewhere, we’ve tried to give them more than one chance but it seems they are just incompetent and have ruined yet another night out. Never again!

It took an hour and 25 minutes to get our order (we live a 10 min drive away) and when the food arrived it was cold.

Delicious Prawn Delight curry with exquisite Sag Aloo, Bhaj, rice and accoutrements. Always enjoy ordering from here for the last 12 years, and a handshake with Ben when we get to come in. Our favourite Indian place in town.

The food from Joy is excellent. There is a large choice of vegetable dishes, and everything I have tried from here has been delicious.

Lovely food. Delivery person must be invisible as when they rang the doorbell, got straight to door. No sign of the person, completely disappeared & left food on doorstep. Well done Delivery guy or woman, if it gets nicked!

The best Indian takeout in Surrey! If you like spice I’d recommend their Vinderloo, it has perfectly cooked potatoes that are lovely and soft. Portions are very generous so it’s good value for money, delivery was very quick and came early and food was piping hot and fresh.

Delivered a Sag Aloo instead of a Sag Dhal. I mean who eats potato and rice? At least get the order correct! Very disappointing, as they’re usually top notch.

We go to Joy on a regular basis, early evening there are always tables available, gets busy later. Ben the owner always greets us with a smile, all them waiters are very pleasant. Food is always top quality, give it a try.

I ordered for some spicy chiken tikka curry. But they made it sweet and i couldn't eat that . Highly disappointed with the food and taste . And chiken biryani was like eating tomato rice with some chicken pieces in it.

This has been the third trip to Joy and It's pretty clear to me that they're head and shoulders above the local competition. I live in Surbiton, so it's great to have a reliable Indian. Good interesting range of specials, friendly service. My go-to locaslly.

We moved away from Surbiton several years ago but decided to return to Joy for a visit as it was always great. Staff still as welcoming and polite as ever. Food absolutely excellent. Can highly recommend the mustard curry and the sizzling jalfrezi. Eat here, it's great.

There’s so much sugar in the chicken tikka masala that it can be served as dessert. Pilav rice is essentially just jeera(cumin) rice. Delivery guy rang the bell and waited despite this being a contact-free delivery. Since I was infected, I asked him to place the food on the floor and he dropped the bag on the floor and walked away.

Poppadoms are stale, Naan bread very undercooked, bhajis overcooked, chicken doesn’t smell/taste right. Really disappointing, not like usual good standard...most of it has gone in the bin. Would like a refund please

We had a couple of Americans staying with us, and went to Joy. Large, filled bowls of curries and veg meant we (as usual) overordered. While the prices are mid-range, the portion sizes are hearty, so it's best to order just a couple of main dishes between three or four people. Very good service, with a chirpy, good-humoured style.

The delivery was slightly late. However, the food was really lovely! I ordered vegetable achari, and it was made with a good range of vegetables and tasted really fresh. I will definitely order from this restaurant again, and I recommend them.

temperature is important with a curry, could have been warmer but in general it was tasty...

The restaurant is clean and modern. Went there with 2 other people on 15/12. We shared 6 poppodoms, 2 portions of rice, 3 mains, and 2 Naan bread and also had 2 beers each. We came ame out the wrong side of £96 (including a tip). After the meal I still felt hungry and I am not a big eater. The naan bread were not as big as I remember them - it has been a while since I last ate out and the portions of rice were about half of what I would expect. Rice is really cheap so I think it really is stupid of the management to serve such small portions of it. The 3 mains we had were of good quality. I am unlikely to return.

Good Indian food at a reasonable price with good size portions.

This is the second time I've ordered from Joy, the 1st time my order was more than an hour late ( so late I refused it when eventually arrived cold. The restaurant actually called me and asked me to give them anther try. Thought I've give them another try as their food in the restaurant is normally great. Disappointed again as food was late and ice cold again - this is the last time I order from them

Tandoori not freshly done, too salty

Food didn't arrive on time so we called them and they said "It was on it's way and would be there any minute". I didn't arrive fo another 40 minutes. They obviously hadn't made it so lied about it being on its way. The food itself wasn't worth the wait either. Wont be ordering again.

Not for the first time we had items missing, called the restaurant who said they’d sort it and despite being only 5 mins away they took over 30 to re deliver the missing items.

Great choice and great quality food delivered on time. Why go anywhere else?!

Had dinner here last night with a group of friends. We're locals and always come here because its the best food in the area (including dishes you don't get anywhere else), and the staff are always very welcoming

It's lovely to be able to eat in again. And Joy does not disappoint. The food is as good as ever. An interesting selection of spicy dishes, many of which you would not find ion the menu of a run of the mill curry house. I love the crab bunjni starter. My only criticism (and it's just personal taste) is that the crisp white table linen used to look so lovely; the addition of maroon table covers in my view detracts from the contemporary look and feel.

Lovely meal. Chicken just a little pink and would have given 6 stars if there wasn't any pink. Lovely special fried rice. Pilau rice lovely though a little heavy on the spice that was in there. Naan bread was lovely.

Disappointing. We have ordered from Joy on numerous occasions in the past and it has been delicious. It feels like the chef has changed and the quality of ingredients, as the food tastes completely different. Our food arrived cold, the chicken was tough and the flavour was pretty bland. Not the standard we are used to.

I was sent the wrong dish but it was very good nonetheless.

I will never order from here and sure wouldn’t recommend you do! We have preordered our order to arrive at 8pm and for starters it was 20 minutes late and only warm (considering we live only 3 minutes’ drive from the restaurant). The food was way below par- my chicken tikka was the worst I have ever had- fry chicken, soup like sauce (super watery), very sweet as if they ve put piles of sugar in with nothing else in the sauce (not even a tiny slice of onion). The best part of the meal were poppadoms and we couldn’t even enjoy those as the restaurant forgot to include 2 mango chutneys we have paid for. And when told them about it, they said they would give them to us for free next time... there’s not going to be a next time for sure!

A real shame as used to be decent. 4 small pieces of chicken in each main course, shameful for £10 each. Incorrect rice sent. All disappointing, late and oily.

Missed off the Mango Chutney. Pilau rice stodgy, chicken in both dishes tough & over cooked. Masala sauce too thick & creamy for my taste & the Dhansak too bland (not hot or fruity enough for me). I must be slightly allergic to an ingredient as my lungs are now congested (eggs in rice or sauce?). Portions were large though!

Majority of the food tasted great, food arrived earlier than expected which is always good, but a little disappointed we ordered the tikka masala a few weeks ago and it was delicious with a slight kick to it, however today it was inedible for all 3 of us as it was far too sweet, which was a shame because we all loved it the last time but definitely didn’t taste the same.

Delicious food as always, tastes fresh and is delivered in good time. We miss being able to go into Joy, but one of the best things about this restaurant is that the takeaway tastes just as if we were there

First time ordering the Tandoori Mixed Platter. It was cold and did not taste at all good. Very unusual for Joy who generally I would rate above average.

Whilst the majority of the food was to its usual high standard, it turned up cold. Unfortunately the raita was inedible; it tasted like the chef had accidentally dropped half a pot of salt in it. We had to chuck all of it into the bin. Not impressed this time.
