Jones and Sons in Hackney

I have just had the most brilliant Saturday at Jones & Sons in Dalston! Myself and 4 girlfriends treated ourselves to the bottomless brunch and it did not disappoint and I feel was great value for money. The best part ( aside from the bubble & squeak ) was the staff! Whatever you guys are doing to keep great hospitality staff keep doing it! Special mention to Serena, China and Salfino. Thank you so much for looking after us and being amazing! Will definitely be coming back! 🥰🥂

If you still enjoy dining in the kind of faux-industrial setting of exposed pipework and wiring that was edgy in Soho, New York in the early-90s, then Jones and Sons is definitely a throwback to this vibe. It all feels a little bit over-contrived but the staff were attentive and at least the food was served hot, which is no guarantee in any restaurant these days. We went for the Sunday roast, which was as one would expect, the only remarkable thing being the Yorkshire pudding which was large and doughy, rather more like a savoury muffin than an airy, battery pillow of carbohydrate designed to mop up gravy. Jones and Sons must be doing something right because it is busy and the only duff note was the rather impatient manner in which the waiting staff hurried us off our table for the next group on the production line.

We attended our niece's wedding here on 24th November. The venue was easy to get to via train or bus after the ceremony at Hackney Town Hall. The main restaurant area had lines of nicely laid out tables. The food was very good and the waiting staff very polite and attentive. The guests filtered through to another room in the evening for the disco which is adjoined to the main room. One thing that I would say from a personal point of view is that the music from the disco room was relayed via 4 speakers back into the restaurant room, thus not allowing anyone to converse properly. The bar was very well stocked with beers,ciders,wines spirits and cocktails. May I suggest that cocktails could be made at a certain area of the bar so as not to clog up the rest of the customers waiting for service ? While talking of the bar, there is a certain bar person (wearing a head covering) who on the day had an arrogant manner about him ! On arrival I detected an air of arrogance when he served me. I gave him the benefit of the doubt until later in the evening. Whilst waiting again to be served the said bar person continued to ignore a lady guest who had clearly been waiting to be served for a little while. She questioned him when he proceeded to serve a man at my side who should have been served AFTER the lady. She questioned him again, but his arrogance showed again with him telling her "I'll get to you in a minute". He then asked me what I want ? I asked for a coffee....But the lady is first ? He then replied " I'll serve her in a minute". She proceeded to say to him that he had ignored her, and would only serve men.He then said that he was married ? ? I told the lady that she should make a complaint and quote me as a witness. I then told the bar person that he was "out of order for ignoring a customer and in my view you are ignoring her" He did eventually say sorry to both of us, but a bit reluctantly. His whole manner was one of arrogance and non caring. I hope the lady guest does get in touch with the venue to complain. All in all a very good party venue....but issues with bar service when busy.

Went to a wedding reception. Fabulous food and beautifully cooked. Venue great for a wedding party. Separate dance room and outside space. Full of character and atmosphere. Staff attentive and friendly and professional. Highly recommend

Jones and Sons Sunday Brunch was so good the food choice are delicious and the portions very decent we had prosecco with our brunch the drinks flowed once the bottle was finished replaced straight away staff very friendly and really helpful re choices It was so good came back with my cousin a couple weeks later great place in Hackney to eat.

Fabulous Sunday lunch with a group of friends. The food ( squid, followed by roast pork) was superb served and the staff were very accommodating. The only slight downer was that the courtyard was a bit hot under a perspex roof, but there was air conditioning and space inside so we only have ourselves to blame.

I went with family and close friend for a celebration, the food was well below the expectations, I order gnocchi and honestly I still don’t know what on the earth happened to the chef, in Italy he would have get a criminal record. The very disappointing moment came when the bill arrived, 472.84 pounds including the optional service of 52.54 pounds for witch I wasn’t given the option by the waiter. I paid the bill and soon after my wife ordered an espresso. It was terrible by the way but that’s not the point, they presented another bill for the coffee, probably 3 pounds this after I paid 472.84 …. shameful . They not only need to learn how to cook but also and most important to treat the customers decently.

Professional polite staff who moved us indoors even though we booked outdoors - a Sunday roast I will remember forever - epic food, fair prices and friendly staff - nothing not to like

I love Jones and sons, sadly recently upon my last visit a few months ago service had slipped and I was apprehensive about returning. I'm so glad I gave them another chance today (a Saturday afternoon) because I had a great time! We were greeted with a smile and lots of fun positive energy by China. We even requested to move seats to a more private area and this was done with no hesitation or issues. Our waitress Rahima was lovely! So attentive, patient and extremely efficient. Nothing was too much for her and service was with a warm smile for our entire sitting. We opted for the bottomless brunch, which is great here because they offer a really good selection of non alcoholic bottomless drinks (including tea, fresh juice and an elderflower spritz), something most other bottomless brunch establishments don't do, I mean we don't all want to get drunk on prosecco 🤣. Food was yummy, especially the avocado on toast, chicken burger and waffles and toffee sauce and ice cream 🤤. China and Rahima & colleagues; thanks for a lovely Saturday afternoon and restoring my faith in J&S 😊

A friend organised a Sunday lunch here and I’m glad I didn’t read previous reviews before going… it’s almost like it’s a different venue from all the negative reviews!! I’m fairly hard to impress… but the service and food were both great! The rib eye beef Sunday lunch was great. The drinks / cocktails were very good and service was efficient, friendly and nothing was too much to ask. Would return in a heartbeat!

We were charmed by the Victorian building and its lovely courtyard and were mildly surprised that the restaurant wasn’t busy in this part of Dalston on a Saturday evening. We were a group of four, only one of us had a starter. Mains were a combination of duck, cod and veggie squash gratin. My friends said their duck and cod was on the cooler side of warm, probably the cold plates didn’t help. The cod was very small and my squash gratin was an ok portion of mostly plain sliced potatoes and squash with a drizzle of pesto and sprinkling of veg crisps. It felt more like a pimped up side dish than a main and it cost £19. Desserts were choc mousse, bought in sorbet and a date pudding which was on the heavy side, although the plentiful sauce and scoop of ice cream helped it down. The red wine was ok, not memorable and cost £27. Service felt lacklustre, with the waiter spilling some wine when pouring and walking away leaving my friend to mop up. Although there was a small group of serving staff gathered at the kitchen counter, no one interacted with us or asked us if we were happy with the meal, even when taking our dishes or taking payment at the end. In spite of a £21 ‘service’ charge, the staff seemed rather sullen and disinterested. The bill was almost £200, with only one of us having a starter, and no coffees etc, just the wine. I’d possibly consider returning to have a drink and snack in the courtyard, but we all agreed, not for a meal again. The building was definitely more impressive than the food.

OK the food is very good. I had top of the range rib-eye steak, my friends the sirloin steak and macaroni cheese. Top notch yorkshire puddings - huge - and roast potatoes. Vegetables excellent though parsnips a bit underdone. Still we all get a tough parsnip every now and again, However, couple of things. If you serve big yorkshire puddings then have adequate amounts of gravy. I should not have needed to ask for more. Also basics like providing salt and pepper. The table booking was fot two hours and we did not get served for 1hr and 20min. Not impressed. Also it's really loud. My phone registered over 100 decibels average while dining. Please sort the acoustics.

The service was absolutely disgraceful. We ordered bottomless brunch. The food came every hour. If I did not complain the third plate would not have arrived. So many staff standing around and not even getting us drinks. I have been years ago and it was so good. Feels like they are being cheeky with pricing and giving you less for your money. The location has indeed moved as we discovered when we arrived at the old address on Arcola Street and the place was boarded up! After a quick phone call we arrived at their new address in Gillet Street N16.First impressions were very good, service checking in for our reserved table was friendly and efficient, being shown to the bar whilst our table was cleared. Drinks at the bar were first rate, the 'Bloody Mary' looked so good (I was the driver - so that will be for next time) Good selection of Meantime beers available.I have to say the restraunt is very minimal in style, sort of factory style with air conditioning pipes on ceiling etc. It makes for some pretty challenging acoustics, together with the music it is pretty difficult to hold a conversation. Some people could find this a bit stressful, its certainly not relaxing and the tables are very close which together with the close walls adds to the noise levels.Where 'Jones & Sons' excel is the no nonsense food, the menu is simple and good prices for a London restaurant. You can order a whole chicken to share, Pork Belly, or a leg of Lamb. It's not cheap but not excessive. We all had the Rib Eye Beef with massive Yorkshire puddings/ veg. With a carafe of wine we paid £30.00 per head, only one course but we were all stuffed afterwards and could not manage anymore food. The portions were generous and the beef was exceptional, it came pink we were warned but you could not fault the favour. There are various side orders on the menu but really nothing else could have beed added to our Sunday lunch.The place was packed so booking is essential. Service was excellent and very attentive. Great place to eat with good uncomplicated food, well worth a visit but just don't expect an intimate meal! It's not really a relaxing place or somewhere to catch up with old friends its all about the food which for the price in North London is exceptional and at a great price
