We went for an early lunch and was seated and given menus quickly. Between us, we ordered an omelette, chicken sandwich, a kids meal of sausage and chips, and a bowl of chips. We waited about 45 minutes for our meal, given that there weren't many people seated, thought this was quite a long wait. When we got our meals, we were very surprised the kids meal literally had one sausage, and a few chips (I think this was about £7 or £8) The chicken sandwich was cheap bread and minimal salad garnish. The omelette was nice, although I had to share with my grandson as he was still hungry!!! Don't think this is one I would come back to.

0 starts if I could!!!!!!!!! Visited this morning with my sister and daughter to be greeted by a rather rude Blonde women. After ordering cheese on toast at a pricey £5.20 I received one piece of toast with cheese on it and a normal slice of buttery toast? Asking for the menu again to view the sandwich options it was all to much effort for her and even bringing over the sugar Came with an unwelcoming attitude. When paying I asked to pay separately and the rude women replied “well they’re near enough the same cost anyway so can’t you just half it”.If I am paying to eat the food you serve I expect to pay for it the way I would like to. I may not have the extra money to “just split the bill”. So Don’t waste your money on rubbish food with rude service

On a day trip to Southend we had breakfast/brunch at The Jolly Roger. We were greeted and seated inside as weather not suitable for outside dining. We had 2 veggie breakfasts which were very good scrambled egg & Mushrooms excellent but it didn't come with any toast which we had to order after food arrived. Full breakfast very good too. Would have liked a pot of Tea rather than it served in a cup with milk already added !!! despite that we enjoyed our visit.

Took my mum out for some lunch down to the arches at Westcliff and gave the Jolly Roger a try. Best milky coffee I've had in a while, I had place, the Ladies had cod. Well cooked fish, light batter, chip shop chips and ample side salad was good enough for all. Service was efficient and with a lovely smile, cost wise decent value for money, very enjoyable.

Visited in August on a sunny day and a able was found for the two of us by friendly waitress (who gave the same good customer service though out our meal).Given menu which had a good choice of food for such a small establishment. Being near the sea and in Southend, I went for the standard cod and chips and my wife had grilled trout. Both were very nicely cooked with good size portions at a very reasonable cost. Good views of the beach from this establishment and well worth a walk along the prom from Southend to the Jolly Roger.

Today (30th December) me & my family decide to pop down to the seafront for some lunch, after a nice walk with our family puppy. We decided to try this ‘Jolly Roger’ due to the first few cafes being busy and not enough space for 6 plus a puppy. A lady popped out from the back and was instantly rude towards us telling us that we cannot push 2 tables together and we decided to leave instantly, what made it worse was the it WASN’T EVEN BUSY!! Putting 2 tables together isn’t going to bother anyone the grinch. She was also extremely rude towards myself in regards where my dog can/cannot go. Shame that she wasn’t so ‘Jolly’. Instead we went to another one of the cafes only a few doors down, where the gentleman was very very welcoming and went above our expectations, to not only make sure everything was ok for us but to interact with my 3 year old nephew and puppy.Shame really as they lost out on custom but I was more than happy enough to spend it else where! Not the way to run a business!!!

Lovely and warm despite the cold wind out on the seafront, we were greeted by cheerful smiling staff. I'd say it's a bit too snug for wheelchair/pushchair users but I'm sure if warned ahead they would accommodate you. We are regular visitors for lunch usually on a Friday. Judith and Kris`s fish n chips has ALWAYS been ( and will always be) top quality. You get what you pay for. Other restaurants may be cheaper but their quality is MUCH lower. The Coastal Bite next door has a TRIPADVISOR pennant so why not the Jolly Roger where the food and the service is MUCH better. All food cooked while you wait n served piping hot--can`t ask for much more can you? Try it you`ll be surprised. As for comments about the mussels the writer got the WRONG restaurant as The Jolly Roger has never offered that dish!!! If you want to write a report for goodness sake GET THE Restaurant right!!! Pay cash `cos the cost of hiring a PDQ machine is expensive and `Jolly Roger` emphasizes quality so one does not have to pay the cost of a PDQ machine within the pricelist!! We`ll keep going there!! We often take quests there and EVERYONE has agreed that we are correct in our comments. So come where is the pennant. Take your own wine --glasses supplied with pleasure.

Never again. The 'roast chicken' on the kids menu was a few slices of microwaved chicken (tough as leather) with a weird combination of new potatoes, frozen roast potatoes and peas drowning in salty instant gravy. I wouldn't give that to a dog, let alone my child. And the 'homemade ' steak pie and lasagne had also clearly been over-microwaved to the point that they were burnt and inedible. When I told the waitress she just said 'okay' and walked off while I was still talking. No apology, no refund or anything. Absolutely appalling service and food.

On a warm sunny day we had decided to sample the pleasures of the Thames Estuary and have some lunch. We certainly were not looking for any kind of exciting culinary experience and having looked at the places in the arches along the front at Southend decided this had the right balance of customer numbers and places to sit and a table with a view. We took our place and waited for service. They were quite busy but we got menus after a couple of minutes. We both had fish and chips. It was freshly cooked, served pleasantly,it tasted good and was very enjoyable. It was also priced fairly and we were quite satisfied. There were no frills and no disappointments. I have rated it very good because "Average" has negative connotations and if "Good" was available this would be more suitable.

I will never visit again!I woke up this morning and fancied a spot of breakfast with my lovely Husband.Took a drive to southend seafront Arches knowingly I'm bound to get a good bit of breakfast... Admittedly being a Sunday got up a bit late for breakfast but heyho still fancied a fry up. Walked along looking at other cafes they were all on their lunch menus... But I still craved a fried breakfast. Got to Jolly Rogers, looked okay we walked in..... Expected to be greeted by the staff.... They continued to look straight through us... So we said "shall we sit here" just a nod was given. So we sat down Was given two menus, Within a minute over come a man asked us what we want to drink and at the same time asked if we was ready to order food. I knew what I was after so that was easy. Over came out drinks, I had tea, hubby had a milkshake.... For the price you expect a bit more then a nesquick (make up your self) milkshake.....The food took over 40 minutes too cook, I wouldn't of said it was busy there, tables were occupied ...but it wasn't heaving. For a friend breakfast to take 40 mins to cook... That's rubbish... I know there's other people's food to cook.... But still it's a cafe should it take 40 mins to cook a friend breakfast.... No. We had the car park paid for one hour... Not expecting it it to take 40 mins to cook the food. Food was edible, the sausages where burnt and over cooked... If anyone that worked there actually asked if our food was okay I may of actually told them that I wasn't... Maybe they know that it's crap that's why they don't ask?? So as it took so long for my food to be cooked I obviously drank my tea in that time, hubby drunk his milkshake. Staff walked past numerous times while we was eating... Seeing we had empty glasses... They didn't even ask if we wanted another drink... So not even any up selling coming from them. To go to their food establishment it's a general courtesy from them to ask if food is okay and if we want more drinks but that didn't happen.... There was no intentions either as they wasn't even busy at the end of our meal. I wished I done one thing and carried on walking to the next cafe as I certainly won't return here again. It was rubbish!!

The breakfast took over 30 mins to be served. Me and my partner got served 5 minutes apart which meant she had nearly finished by the time mine turned up, the toast took even longer. £2 for 1 slice of toast! the staff were only friendly to the regulars and would barely acknowledge we were there. The smallest sized breakfast i have ever seen. Even a child would still be hungry after eating it. To make the breakfast look bigger they dump virtually a whole can of beans on which floods the entire plate. Bacon was overcooked to the point it was so stiff i could have knocked someone out with it if throw at them. The egg was so oily i knew my bottom would pay for it later, and i was right! The table was still sticky like it hadn't been cleaned, there was left over food on the floor from god knows how long.Unless you like spending £20 on 2 breakfasts and still being starving afterwards i would recommend staying well away.

Well...I had been to the Shorehouse quite often before the refurbishment but having been today I can only think they blew their entire budget on making it look nice and ran out of funds for trivial things like food and service. We used the app to order, thinking it would save time for all concerned, but it was unwieldy and didn't work half the time. The staff even said the app messes orders up. My husband had to go in search of my drink and was told it hadn't been ordered, in spite of the fact that he had his. We ordered the two course lunch deal, which was £13.99 each. Firstly, they brought our desserts before our main course. They obviously had to be sent back after we explained we had ordered a main course and would quite like to eat that before dessert. When we did get our main course it was hugely disappointing. My husbands scampi, chips and peas were clearly frozen and the peas were so shrivelled they were almost non-existent. My burger was dry and tasteless and the mac n cheese was very obviously microwaved tinned mac n cheese. The desserts, when we got them back again, were pleasant but nothing to write home about. All in all, the food was well below par, especially considering the cost, the service was shambolic and the staff all had looks of depressed resignation at what they had to operate with. Definitely won't be going back!

Despite having lived in Southend all my life only been to Tomassis once before and my wife has never been so we popped in while in the High Street for a light lunch. It is very nice with traditional waitress service. Friendly staff but perhaps the light lunch menu is a bit restricted? We had paninis followed by ice cream desserts. All was good but may be a little on the expensive side? Just over £40 for 2 for a light lunch?? I would return though as it is a traditional place and does have a certain quality.

I took my elderly parents for a mother's day treat lunch yesterday and was surprised that there were no disabled toilets at the restaurant level. In order for my dad to use the toilets, we had to leave the restaurant via the entrance steps outside and walk down the side path to the rear car park (all outside and on a rainy day) to access the toilets. The food and service was ok, but lack of wheelchair access and disabled toilets is disappointing.
