Was here Saturday 5th October great food and staff the place is clean. And at a very good price I will be back .

Perfectly cooked egg and food came very quickly after ordering, coffee was perfect as well, very lovely environment thank you

Very good Chips and sausages. My Friend said his steak was absolutely perfect and was very Juicy. I would happily come again. Food comes quick and is never cold.

It was horrible,the chicken was pink,the omelette tasted horrible and the chicken nuggets was burnt to a crisp the only nice thing about it was the chips,.Me and my family members who ate some of the food are now feeling unwell,there was a waitress who was drunk and her colleague had to keep telling her to be quite because she was shouting,the table clothe was dirty and the cook came out of the kitchen because she was “unwell” and sat behind the counter in front of customers,do not go here!!!

Family of four, 2 couples. Staff very friendly, 3 of us had homemade steak pie (excellent), 1 with chips, 2 with boiled new potatoes, carrots and fesh peas. 1 had lamb chops, tomatoes, chips and peas. Coffees and cold drinks. Reasonably priced. Would recommend.

Best breakfast in Southend. The staff are lovely and remember what you order. Definitely worth a visit.

Delicious cheese and mushroom omelette. Jacket potato was nice too. Love the original decor and the staff were lovely. We were allowed to bring our dog in - after checking with other customers.

Food was lovely, order was taken quickly and it was served promptly. Staff member was friendly and it is well located on the sea front. Only negative are the toilets, they are up a lot of stairs and the upstairs area looks unused and derelict. Would definitely go back but they could utilise the upstairs space better.

Ordered a chicken salad . Horrible greasy deep.fried chicken ,salad was past its best ,didn't have coleslaw sachets of salad cream.out of date. Greasy horrible nothing like years ago.avoid !cost a fortune for 4 meals. We couldn't eat . Fish chips burger child's fish greasy overcooked . Took the Mrs for awalk along the sea fron t and popped in to the The Rose was greeted by a great waitress named Jen was offered a table and left alone long enough to settle. When Jen took the order it was with a smile even though she'd been rushed of her feet all day. Food was great services was better will return .

Ordered roast chicken chips peas and tomato.x2 said hold the peas. Food came out roast chicken chips and carrots. Covered in gravy. No tomato. Menu didn't say gravy or carrots. Didn't get a choice. Young lady served us she was extremely polite helpful. Food did come out fast. Didn't kick up a fuss ate what we could paid up and left. Shame about the local drunk that made u feel unwelcome with his foul mouth . If it wasn't for the menu and food being incorrect this would of been a 4 star rating.

Friendly and helpful staff. The food was delivered quickly and tasted delicious. The chips were perfect and the price very reasonable. An older establishment with no blearing music or flashing lights or machines. Like going back in time. The restaurant was on the front opposite the pier area. Will definitely return to try the steak.

Came here last time we visited and liked it so much we came bac. Friendly lady providing the service, excellent food and sensible prices. Will definitely be our go to place any time we are in Southend.

We stopped here for a double breakfast and drink. Food was tasty,freshly cooked and hot. Service was friendly and prices were excellent. Seating inside and out, it was a lovely day so we sat outside and watched people go by on the seafront. A little gem - well worth a visit

Just passed this on the hunt for lunch, and the inside was cute and traditional. A yong man seemed to be running the show up front, and he did a great job. Not too busy, but definatley has a good amount of families coming and going. Food was as expected, and definately filled us up with energy for the day! A decent choice and a reliable menu

What a shame we came here a month ago and had a wonderful meal.today came back and oh dear .i ordered the chicken salad.and the portion of chicken was so small.i paid 9 pound 50 for a salad and tiny portion of chicken how dissappointing.friend had fish and chips was ok .still not as good as last time .service ok.but sorry we wont be back again.

I really didn't want fish and chips,and this restaurant had a varied menu.So I had roast chicken,chips and 2 veg.Cant say that the meal was all that good but it was filling.Followed with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce.With diet coke meal came to £12.10.Friendly service.

The fish was defrosted tasteless and tasted like it’s going off, will never come back here. They gave me salad instead of peas and that’s one of the stars.

We had really lovely breakfast at Rose, staff was really friendly and even when we tweaked the food on menu there was not much trouble at all,coffee and tea was lovely too Would definitely recommend

Went to Southend for the free fireworks and the main fish and chip places were really busy but got a table for 8 of us here with no trouble. Most had fish and chips and were impressed - the fish was perfectly cooked, nice and flaky and the batter was really light, chips smaller than chip shop ones but well cooked and tasty, my daughter had the pie and it was a proper slice of homemade pie which she wolfed down. The staff were very friendly and chatted to the kids, service was quick and efficient.

Absolutely amazing! The fish was fresh and the chips were just the right texture and the mushy peas were too! Will definitely return. 10/10... Amina was so polite and couteous! Great customer service too. Very clean and friendly environment.

Relaxed little restaurant with excellent, friendly service and good food. The traditional fish and chips were well cooked and of good proportion. I'd have to say that the "facilities" were a little basic although perfectly adequate for their purpose - seems to be a work in progress. But the whole experience was pleasing and in keeping with the Southend vibe. I would definitely visit again.

Lovely young lad served us, if you're just looking for a cheap breakfast I would recommend this place.

I honestly couldn't say I enjoyed eating here. I had to clean and sanitise the table myself as it was not clean when I sat down. There is little social distancing between some of the tables. The meal itself.....I ordered fish and chips and was disappointed to get fries and frozen fish, especially for £8. I was given a can of drink with no glass, or straw offered. My husbands full English breakfast was very small and not worth £6.50. There was a hair in my meal and the cutlery was not overly clean. (thankfully I had all my own wipes, sanitisers etc). Would not rush to go back here

Served by a lovely young man. Food was ok. No track and trace,no hand sanitiser glad I had my own, no social distancing was glad to get out of there. I was suddenly surrounded by a family of four and needed to move could hardly get my chair out, so close... No 2 metre space! Young waiter helped us move our food and drinks to another table..

We went into Rose Restaurant for fish and chips, what a mistake the place is extremely shabby, the choice of fish was either cod or plaice, fishcakes or scampi. We were told that all the fish was fresh and the chips home made so in spite of the appearance of the place we ordered cod and chips and a Childs meal. When the food arrived the fish was ok but I really wasn't sure if it was Cod or Plaice it looked like cod but tasted of plaice obviously cooked in oil that had been overused. The chips were frozen and the peas were tinned and cold. I used the toilet upstairs which was dirty with a broken window in the cubicle and there were bird feathers on the floor. The only good thing was that the 2 young girls serving were very pleasant but on the whole we paid £25.00 for food that was well below standard I would be very interested to know what the food hygiene department thought of the toilets

Myself and my sister and a friend had the fish and chips and they were excellent. First time we tasted proper fish and chips. Portions were good, chips were hot and crispy.will most likely revisit the restaurant again.

Wouldn't even give them half a star to be honest. All the food was disgusting aside from the sausages, the chips weren't cooked, were a soggy mess and tasted awful, the calamari was over cooked, Drinking glasses were dirty and smelt of Fish, I had two eggs with my meal, one was harder than the stones on the beach and the other might as well have been cracked onto my plate and left as it was, and the chef looked more of a mess than the fellas at the pub next door. The only reason I give them a star is because "SOME" of the staff there was very apologetic regarding the meal, but no one did anything to rectify the amount of money I paid for basically nothing as we left the plates full and showed our displeasure with there food. Would highly recommend walking straight past as my partner has been unwell ever since and we had to cut our stay at Southend short due to this. I would never even consider eating here again, I'd be more obliged to stand outside with a sign directing people away. Thanks for ruining what should have been a lovely weekend away Rose restaurant, if I was to give some advice clean your equipment so there's no cross contamination as I can taste the different foods across your menu, and would strongly recommend employing a chef that can actually cook. An excellent service. The staff were lovely on our visit today (15/08/20 2pm) and instantly noticed that my daughter was concerned she had Baked Beans on her chips. My daughter has autism so doesnt like certain food touching other food, the lady servicing us instantly without being asked offered to replace the meal without beans and with a friendly smile too. The food itself was nicely priced, well cooked and served quickly. The table was clean. We had savaloy and chips. The chips were perfect. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside and the savaloys were just savaloys really! Nothing special but did the job. The service was what really made the visit worthwhile, thats a rarity nowadays especially in Southend at the weekend where it is busy. The ladies dealing with the customers gave great pride in their work and made us feel welcome.

Wow!! what a little gem this place is, we arrived on Monday for a few days away. Looking for a breakfast we came across this place and so glad we did! Breakfast without a doubt are the best in Southend and evening meals were a real surprise too. Out of the 5 nights we had 3 of our evening meals here (the other 2 places we tried were a lot more expensive and no where near as good) and seeing as it was the best food and best value we returned night after night. Please give this place a try as I’m certain you will love it. Special shout out to Kyra who looked after us our whole stay, 5star service from her on every visit and you could see how much she loved her job. We will deffo be back when we return to Southend again!

Old typical seaside cafe. Food is of generous portions. I had an omelette oozing with cheese (a little too much for me ) but some others may want more ! Chips very tasty and a nice mug of tea. ..prices are reasonable place is clean and tidy..Social distancing with other tables and sanitizer readily available.

We were really well looked after today in this great little cafe with a lovely atmosphere. Kids meals were excellent value at £3 each, fish and chips was well cooked and appetising, but menu was more than just fish and chips, good cafe fare, table service and proper plates and tables etc all nicely laid out. Love the convenient seafront location and understated retro charm of the building which has been gently and tastefully freshened up and has a few nice photos from its history on the walls. An unpretentious place where they treat you nicely and I’ll definitely come back again when in Southend. Well done Rose Restaurant, was glad we stumbled in.

I was very pleasantly surprised with this place!, to look at it doesn't look the best and could do with a bit of a re vamp, however the staff here was great so nice so friendly and so helpful the place was clean as well. The food came and looked and tasted so nice!, much much better than I expected I will definitely be making another visit her for food. The fish was crystal white and fresh the chips were some of the best I've had and the peas were just right as well, not like bullets as youd expect in most places. The cost was very reasonable not to expensive at all. A great lunch experance her I would definitely recommend this place.

Absolutely terrible fish, 12 bones found in my fish, and the taste? Taste more like sea water more than proper fish and chips, not to mention it's well expensive. At least the waitress had the dignity not to charge me full price but with a snarky remark of "fish have bones".

We saw a small restaurant on the mane road and decided to come for lunch. Service was very good and quick. Server said to as about fish that is fresh and tasty and we decided to order. So quick review about food. Is was fantastic fresh and tasty. We happy to come back again.

Good English food and good price

We (11 of us, from 13 to 64) decided we needed a snack after our journey and were glad that we chose this place. The staff were great, and the range of early morning snacks was great. We all found something that we liked and enjoyed it. Even better, was that it was really good value. (Less than £40 for the 11 of us to have a drink and a snack) It was so nice that we went back there before we left for home.

Lovely resturant. Food was served quick, but not too quick to br worried sausage in batter was lovely. The batter was actually crispy. Fish was of a good size. Very happy family of 5 adults. Would visit again.

Im not a picky person, but the food we ate here was the worst I had in the last few years. The bread was old and cold,meat wasn't cooked well, even thought we asked for it.Dinks were not cold, on a hot day.Tables and plates were dirty, walls were dirty as well... I think the prices they apply are too high for the quality they offer.

The experience at The Rose Restaurant was such a positive one. I was immediately greeted by staff, and offered a seat inside or out. Being that it was one of the hottest days of the year I decided we'd take a lovely seat out by Adventure Island. Kyra, who was our server, was incredibly friendly, attentive, and obviously reallycared about our experience at The Rose. There are a few reviews on here that mention that The Rose Restaurant doesn't take card; well, the truth of this is that they now do - Kyra explained to me that TripAdvisor has been a bane on their business as the owners had taken this on from a previous owner about a year ago. They are now in the process of modernising the business, and this is incredibly easy to see. They're now using a contactless payment machine. Food was great, pricing amazing, and the staff really went out of their way to accomodate my dietary requirements - which shows an incredible difference - seeing as this website doesn't really highlight the brilliance of the people who run thisestablishment. If the previous reviews affected your decision, I'd urge you to reconsider, as the comments almost seem to be talking about a whole different place now the owners have changed.They made a loyal customer! I'll be going back next time Im in Southend, for what was the best fish and chips I'd had in Southend so far.

Rose restaurant is under going a bit of refurb upstairs ( if it's 1 I think it is?) Anyway fish n chip meal was excellent, cos was white, tasty, cooked right, no oil or fat on plate after few mins, beautiful piece of fish.... staff ok n friendly even though rushed of there feet with all the bikes there 2day (Easter monday)

A perfectly passable chippie in a lovely location. I'm not going to pretend that it has the most innovative menu, but it does have a good selection of favourites that are cooked fresh to order. The restaurant alludes to its history well and has been in the hands of the same family for generations.

I’m so impressed with how much this place has changed! The food was to die for and the staff was so friendly. I had a breakfast and it was the best I’d ever had. I was served by a very helpful waiter (I’m fussy and had a fair few things I wanted to change about to make my breakfast) He was so patient and all together the family and myself thoroughly enjoyed our meals! Would really recommend this restaurant :)

We ate here on Saturday. We all had cod and chips. We all spent most of the meal picking endless bones out of the fish and I found my whole meal to be inedible. During the night 2 of our party were sick. They don’t take cards and all the nearby cash points charge you to take out your money. Truly awful. Dreadful end to what was a lovely day.

I have been going here for meals for over 50 years. My last visit was 2 years ago, and I was very disappointed with the meal and service on that occasion. But I am very pleased to say things have improved since then. They appear to have gone a bit up market, with a slight increase in prices to match, but the food and service were superb. We had their specialty fish and chips, brilliant.

Wide menu, pleasant atmosphere and attentive service, consistent over time. First choice for decent well cooked meals along the seafront.

Went here with the grandparents and two fussy kids - had the burger, roast chicken, fish and the scampi. No complaints from anyone - portions were fine nice fish. Don't serve alcohol but can go the pub next door. Decent friendly service and reasonably priced - six meals and right drinks for under 60 pound - good value

Visited the rose today and found it a charming place with lovely views, opposite beach and adventure funfair. We both had fish and chips, which tasted delicious. Crispy batter and perfect chunky chips. Also had fresh orange juice with Ice and cup of freshly brewed tea. It had a real charm and good prices. Great service and very friendly waitress. It is a very relaxing gem so highly recommended for anyone visiting Southend

Visited on the 17th of June while was staying in Southend with my mum for her birthday. The staff were really friendly. I ordered chicken nuggets off of the children’s menu as i didn’t fancy anything of the adult menu. As i ordered from the children’s the lady who served us asked if i wanted a adult’s portion which was great. My mum had the roast lamb which she loved. Had a lovely meal when I’m down in southend i will be visiting here again for sure!. Lovely clean restaurant!

Never come here this is the worst restaurant i have met in my flipping life I asked for 3 cod I waited 1 hour and then the old woman asks me what I wanted and Im like 3 coddd and she runs to the kichen and tells the chef that she meeds 3 cod then I wait another 40 minutes of my life and they do t even say fu sorry.never come you will waste your time in the beach.thanks.
