Nice decor and friendly staff. The pasta carbonara was creamy and satisfying. A little noisy during peak hours, but overall a pleasant dining experience.

Excellent food and outstanding service. This was our fourth visit, and we're never disappointed. The fish and most items cooked fresh to order and the quality is outstanding that's why I go out my way to travel there. You can also eat in for free.

The first battered fish I've had in more than 20 years after being diagnosed with coeliacs disease. This was made it almost worth the wait. Will definitely be going back

Human compassion has not been lost in hard times i had first hand experience of it today homeless young lady walked into shop and said i have no money but i,m hungry and the owner put his hand on her shoulder and said no problem i can feed you for free .Does Mcdonald,s Kfc OR MAJOR HIGH STREET COMPANIES do this no a small business owner does I'm not religious but have to say i was overwhelmed at the generosity of this business say no more

We ordered online and that's when I realised they do gluten free options and I have to say the gf cod was amazing! They even gave me some free chips with it. I have eaten the lot and it was very tasty! Thank you! The burger was also enjoyed very much!

It took a while for my delivery to arrive, but it was worth the wait. The best fish & chips we’ve eaten in a long time. Lovey chips👍👍 it was all lovely, but no chippy cooks chips like you do.

Excellent gourmet burgers. Full of flavour n proper juicy. Curry sauce nice kick n thick. Being able to add mushrooms etc to the veggy burger would be a great addition…

Popped in for pie and chips and was not dissapointed as usual, chips are great proper chips not skinny, pie lovely and hot all served with a cheery outlook thanks everyone.

Not as hot as I’d except it to be since it’s just fine the rd and driver seemed to go all the way round the estate

Food took 2 hours and was freezing when it arrived sadly. Disappointing as we usually really enjoy our food from here.

I must've accidentally clicked delivery. I had to collect my order, in the dark on my mobility scooter. so glad it wasn't too far. Must've been my own fault. But it was worth it. My dinner was still warm and me and m .y cat Tommy thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Thankyou Jonny Mac

Usually nice. Sadly the quality wasn’t as good as usual. Very Greasy Onion rings, many Chips not edible. Think it’s better not to be ordering too close to the closing time as we’ve had this before.

The expected delivery time kept changing so it was late by the time it was delivered despite only living qbout 1 mins drive away . Food was good though

I live on greenstead which is not far from johnny MAC'S so the driver is sent mile end to deliver someone else order to drive all the way back to my so my food was cold just do not make sense to me

food got to us and was all cold could not eat it as was very wet aswell

pie was soft top not crispy and still in it's plastic packaging fish curry sauce was Like water and cold chips was soggy and greasy as anything and like warm. overall disgustingggg won't order again lost my custom

The driver couldn’t find me called and got angry , when it did arrive it was cold , the fish was extremely greasy and soggy the savaloy was cold and undercooked the bartered sausage was cold and overcooked didn’t send the correct sauces I asked for curry sauce

The food was amazing, very hot and delivered dead on time, quality service.

Driver was on time but stood on the doorstep shouting for a code. We had no idea where or what the code was. we found the email which said last 4 digits of phone no. didnt work. we had the order no. didnt work. He had the food in his open bag so by the time we had called the restaurant and asked them the food was cold. we finally found the code on the app. we've never had to give a code before. it was not the restaurants fault but Just Eat need to make it clearer or train the drivers.

Excellent food and the customer service was just a good. Went in for lunch with my two friends and the chef also took time to have a nice chinwag with us. 100% recommend!

Tandoor chicken burger is probably the best ive tried,no other food business in colchester can match quality and very competitive pricing,lastly the owner is a funny guy.

‘Halal’ signs stuck all over the windows , you have to walk through groups of Muslims to get in there. Seems if you haven’t got a burka on your head they don’t wanna know

havent been here for ages, as it went down hill some time back. But thought i go here tonight, as jonny macs used to be the best chipshop in colchester. and tonight the batterd sausages were not fresh they were rock soild and dry and the batter was dead flat and cracked, so can tell its been in the heater for quite some time. it really seems as if they have different cooks as JONNY would never allow old food to be sold to customers. what a let down. this place was the best back in 2020 to 2022.. its ashame it aint the same as it used to be. thanks, Lance

Very nice and approachable staff, good food with great prices. It's your standard-issue chippy, done me some good during my time in University. Had staff literally hold the door open for me before and welcome me in, you really don't see that often nowadays. Seeing a Trump hat in Great Britain was also kind of hilarious!

Very Clean Place. Friendly Staff, Good Service. I Had A Meal On Saturday 17th August 2024. Staff Were Friendly And Efficient. I Had The Meal In The Restaurant. The Food Was Brought To The Table Along With Cutlery Etc. I Was Asked If I Wanted Sauces Etc. I Ordered Vegetable Spring Roll And Chips Which Were Delicious And Freshly Cooked. I Was Offered A Free Scoop Of Ice-cream Which I Declined, Tea Or Coffee.

We order food from here regularly. It is, without doubt, the best fish and chips in town. Good portions of crispy chips, fantastic cod and haddock. Great range of food available.

Polite friendly service, did wait ages which I don't mind if it's really nice. First time I tried take away and was disappointed. Soggy chips that were not freshly cooked in nice oil and the fish was dripping in fat and soggy all on the underside. My fish and chips did not look like anything in some of the pictures that are eating in.

Lovely shop, I have never had a problem with them on gluten free fish and chips as a person with celiac. Absolutely amazing customer service, all the staff and owner is very nice and kind

If you are coeliac this is not safe to eat at. My wife has been poisoned and is suffering badly. If you are a ‘lifestyle by choice’ gluten free you won’t be affected but if you are clinically coeliac I would not eat here or you will be I’ll. whatever processes are in place there is gluten contamination.

Johnny Mac advertises as gluten-free but has made my wife very sick. If you are coeliac do not eat here or you will be poisoned. Whatever they are doing for food preparation it is a contaminated process.

chips have really gone downhill, soggy undercooked mess. Also a potato waffle is NOT a hash brown 😑

Friendly staff, great place, serves really fast but food is a little bland for my taste. I had their fish n chips and a chicken burger, I felt fish n chips were extremely bland, I'm from India and I've eaten everything with a lot of flavour so maybe it's just my taste buds, give it a try and see for yourself.

This chippy is a real addition to Greenstead and me and my friends love coming here, the staff, the food, the atmos, the cleanliness, everything 5 stars 😀

I have a son who lives near here and rates the place so went there last night for fish and chips, we sat down inside and the food and service were top quality, best cod and chips i have had in colchester, such a generous portion i could not finish it all, and im a very big eater, i have had worse with smaller portions for almost double the price.

Absolutely loved this meal , the chips were so perfectly cooked , burger was amazing and the gravy is gorgeous! :)

Johnny Macs is the best fish and chips in the area by a country mile. Has been for years, right back to when he owned Scooby Snax. He runs a tight ship. Staff are always friendly and the food top notch. I’ve never had bad fish and chips from he’s shops. I won’t have fish and chips from anywhere else locally. Highly recommended.

worst fish and chips soggy chips and my battered sausage was basically toast the batter was crispy as could ever be and clearly burnt, can not even chew through the batter unless i had metal bars for teeth terrible don’t recommend

Absolutely terrible chips was like a ball of mash and felt like it was like going in to a army reserve owner asking questions where you from what’s your name what do you do like mate it’s abit to much and the food quality is poor like I said before a ball of chips all mashed stuck together and sausage was burnt
