John The Unicorn has long been a favourite place to catch up with friends so having not been for more than a year we were excited to visit. Booked a table online only to arrive and discover that it was almost empty (2 other tables occupied) Perhaps not surprising for a Monday evening in January but made me wonder why we needed to book! Stayed for a few drinks but disappointed to learn that there was “no kitchen tonight” so we had to go and eat elsewhere. Bar staff were friendly enough but seemed bored. Food was good (Turo turo popup) but service could've been better. Bartender was friendly but not particularly focused as he got our order wrong and there was a miscommunication about a sold out item, which he phrased as us misunderstanding....

They have a large selection of drinks, they have a nice, clean pub, and the only down side was the price, which I thought a little on the high side.

I found this place whilst looking for a quick lunch. The staff are really friendly, the ambiance is relaxing and the decor beautiful. Unlike many venues, it is not noisy or intrusive. You can enjoy a quiet pint on your own or bring friends for an evening. They do food (vegan friendly) and local beer. What I really like about it is its lack of pretentiousness. Spacious, LGBT friendly and relaxing. Ticks all the boxes. Recommended

It's a beautiful bar, such a great atmosphere and the bar staff and the security are beautifully people however the bar manager Aislish is to put it bluntly she's very blunt and she's leaving soon and I'm so glad she's gone, beautiful bar go there in two weeks time, MATT is great

My husband and I visited after restrictions were eased and it was a rather pleasant experience and offered a bit of escapism from the daily pandemic drama. The staff were friendly and efficient, but wish they had a better selection of drinks and snacks (Diet Coke not Pepsi and some freshly made bar snacks not from a packet). Upstairs looked more inviting then downstairs at the back, where we were sitting. Just needs a bit more staff around to make it cosier. And the music was so quiet, not sure what they were playing or if they were at all. We will definitely be back, but please sort out your snacks and play some good tunes a bit louder.

I went with 5 friends yesterday, we booked a table in advance due to coronavirus. A one-way system is in place and a host greets you & explains how everything works. Very friendly venue, I have been 4 or 5 times now and I always feel safe here. The staff serve at the bar very quickly and are kind and authentic. The hostess very kindly helped us arrange our seating so that we could extend our booking which was originally a two-hour slot. The venue has a super relaxed, upbeat & down-to-earth atmosphere and attracts an accepting and diverse crowd. On a previous occasion, I had had an argument with my partner and went here for a quiet drink to cool off and I must have looked a bit down, as a member of staff came and asked if I was ok, which was really sweet. They used to have a dessert menu which they have now stopped which is a shame as I recall having a lovely chocolate brownie.

Went for lunch and drinks with friends on a Saturday afternoon in August - food was pretty good although their menu is limited. Felt COVID-safe as tables were well-spaced out, and a one-way system in operation. We were there from 2pm-9pm and the vibe/atmosphere definitely picks up in the evening, but still limited intake of people to keep it safe. Really great spot and recommend if you're meeting up with friends

My experience here was absolutely impeccable. Firstly, Jack who I spoke to on the phone was extremely helpful, thoughtful and thorough in his approach. I felt so well looked after from this initial phone call right through to the evening of my event. The space was beautiful prepared, fully equipped with perfect sound system, lovely decor and toilets, bar and kitchen in really close range. I would highly recommend this place to absolutely anyone looking for a quiet drink with friends to hosting an event such as mine. I will definitely be going back there very soon. Has great potential but it's all just a bit lackluster. The food is good, the team there are pleasent when they are with you but there's no sense urgency or real element of service.

From the booking email inquiry to the night itself, the customer service at John The Unicorn was superb. Big shout out to manager Allie for accommodating last minute requests from our group and being so welcoming - thank you! We had a hell of a good time :) There was proper party atmosphere and the bar staff did their best to keep everybody's glass full. Totally recommend the place for a no fuss fun night out and we will definitely be back to check out their food menu.

We had our staff Christmas party here, and they were very helpful and accommodating with our various requests in the planning stage. On the day itself, they were great hosts, and made our party feel extra special.
