Horrible bacon desayuno bap!

I went in just wanted a coffee. I spoke to a china man who didn’t understand I wished to have sweeteners put in drink before he made it. 8 times I told him before he got a colleague to help. She said they didn’t do that. She explained I had to go and get sweeteners. I got them and put them in cup. All free table had debris on them. I found an empty table. This was at 3pm. The table had milk over it. I asked for it to be wiped. It was though I had asked for a kidney. It was wiped in time. It was not a great experience.

My Mum and I enjoyed our lunch here. There were some decent vegetarian options, although not as many as we would like. Staff were generally friendly and there was plenty of seating (some chairs looked much more comfortable than others, so choose wisely!) The quiche and frittata were both tasty, however prices were expensive considering these items were only accompanied by a small side salad. Cappucino and apple juice tasted high quality. Would be likely to return for lunch again.

We totally 'get' the need to avoid waste but feel let down by such a poor offer from JL. L JL - you need to up your game!

Visited the cafe with my family, was met with a horrendous line to get into the cafe. No one was waiting for food and drinks and we were told to wait for the line to die down … my grandparents cannot stand for a long period of time and making them wait for nothing is absolutely ridiculous. No clean tables when we were told there was plenty. One customer had to clean the table themselves with baby wipes! Shocking service and dirty cups and cutlery! Also to add their ladies toilets were disgusting, most were out of service and it had a horrible smell. No I do not recommend visiting this place as they do not tailor to their target audience as it seems.

Used to regularly have a pot of tea and cake but just recently the staff seem to work hard but achieve very little. After waiting some time in the queue, the cake selection was very poor, there were no small jugs for the milk, no tea spoons, very few serviettes and a lot of the tables hadn't been cleared. There were issues with paying by credit card and also not being able to read the QR code on vouchers. Staff seemed young and inexprienced working on a Saturday afternoon when obviously they were quite busy. Was disappointed to find that along with the fruit scone, you now have to pay for the jam and clotted cream. It was nice to see that you still get a pot of tea with a cup and saucer though.

Shopping on a Saturday afternoon and decided to go for a coffee. Unfortunately hadn’t realised the time and when we got there they were just closing. A gentleman, not sure if he was the manager, said if we only wanted drinks we could come in. We had coffee and cakes, served by very pleasant staff who couldn’t have been more helpful. All Covid rules being followed and we saw staff cleaning tables and chairs to a high standard. We regularly shop in John Lewis but this was the first time we had been in the cafe but because of the excellent customer service we visited again the following week and received the same excellent service. When shopping in Solihull in the future this will be our choice for a coffee or lunch. My son is a wheelchair user and Accessibility was good, we also felt safe which we need due to his vulnerability. We could easily have been turned away but so pleased we weren’t. We have had breakfast a number of times here, as loyal John Lewis customers, it used to be great, now it’s always a bit hit and miss this time I felt the need to write a review. The staff always now seem in a flap, they do not listen to what you ask for, we arrived not long after they opened on the Saturday before Christmas it was not massively busy. The service was slow, then the girl serving drinks was also slow with another staff member leaning in between myself and another customer to ask the girl serving if another member of staff had arrived with the till keys yet! (Not a conversation to be held in front of customers) by the time we got to our table, my very poor sausage sandwich was cold, the sausage content was poor, the bread not great either. My husbands breakfast was as he put it, was “CLAP COLD” to the point, the poached eggs were cold, the tomatoes did not seem to have even been heated. The bacon was cold, we looked to take it back but just looking over to the counter and the disorganised team we could not be bothered. We drank our coffee and left. Stopped after sending the first lot of shopping to collection planning to have mid morning snack. 10:15 and fairly busy. Stopped at queue for pastries & coffee, around 12 folk ahead so left Hubble and I joined seperate queue for a bacon sandwich, around 6 in this. 2 served then remainder appeared to be awaiting for items to arrive from kitchen to complete full breakfast orders. Part complete orders put under hot plates and for ten minutes the three staff moved the plates around under the warming lights as if playing solitare, one stood in front of the toaster repeating at 30 second intervals ' shall I put toast on yet' whilst the third manning the till and coffee machine waited for the items from the kitchen as she kept commenting - not long now! After around 15 minutes hubby arrived with coffee and his pastry ( you have to join separate 'station's depending on your requirement) and I was asked what I wanted. Bacon sandwich ordered and handed over, bacon available all along, hubby went to collect cutlery and sit down, I asked to pay but was told would need to wait until staff member making drinks for folk waiting for remaining breakfast items was ready, the other two continued to play solitare. After 10 minutes the sandwich was stone cold and the bacon had an unappetizing white film. I said as I had now been there a total of 25 minutes with no prospecting of paying I would leave it, remember I did not require drinks as my coffee had left ten minutes previously. The lady waiting to make drinks for the incomplete full breakfast orders said leave it under the lights if you like until I'm ready. I went and drank the by now lukewarm coffee. The food waiting for the missing items are probably still there - total madness.

My wife and I called in to the restaurant for a post shopping snack today at 12.39. We bought a strawberry tart - the pastry was soggy, the strawberries pappy, watery with no taste, little or no Creme Anglaise, whoever made this should be ashamed to call themselves a baker. My wife's espresso was dilute like a black coffee with no zing whatsoever and despite asking for a hot cup it was served lukewarm. I cringed when the waitress repeated my request for an 'espresso' by saying 'EXPRESSO'. Why do they never learn the correct pronunciation? My cappuccino was like a thin latte with very little coffee taste - JL must really be economising with their coffee beans! Finally my fruit scone was an absolute disaster it was old, hard, crumbly, dry and stale, and apart from a couple of sultanas was completely devoid of fruit. It had died, probably yesterday, and not gone to heaven. It was an ex-scone. I could have won a bun fight or a game of conkers with it. I had stomach ache when I finished it and 2 hours later having driven home all I want to do is lie down. It was a terrible, awful, rotten experience and for as long as I live (which may not be for a lot longer after that excuse for a scone) I will never, ever, go to that John Lewis restaurant again. Over the years we have been devotees of the store and have spent thousands on everything from TVs to Dysons and washing machines to cookers, as well as coats, shoes, make-up, perfume, sunglasses and handbags etc etc - you name it - we've bought it there. BUT THEIR RESTAURANT IS SHOCKING!

We have been going to John Lewis Touchwood for coffee and cakes/ scones for many years. The cheese scones in particular used to be fresh and full of flavour. Last time we visited the cheese scones were obviously not the usual ones. Nasty pale soft affairs with no discernible cheese taste. I actually emailed John Lewis to complain and ask why the quality had dropped so badly. The reply was that the scones used to be baked freshly each day in store however "to ensure a consistency" across stores they are now bought in from an outside supplier. Very disappointed with this as you come to expect quality from John Lewis and the new bought in scones are really disgusting. Won't be bothering again.

Since we were in town with our Grandson we thought it would be a treat to have lunch out. John Lewis did not meet our expectations! A sad selection of food- the fish looked particularly dismal - when asked for lasagne we were told it would be a 40 minute wait! At 12.30 which is lunchtime for lots of people they seemed very unprepared. The staff did not seem particularly interested and were certainly not dynamic. It was a waste of time and very disappointing we remembered when it was much better.

I was fairly desperate for a cuppa and this being only my second visit to Touchwood - I wasn't sure of where else to plonk myself for a cuppa.I visited midweek - so you would think it wouldn't be too bad. However, I was wrong, Very noisy, a cacophany of continuous clanking cuttlery and crockery, tables left uncleared and uncleaned. (try saying that on a tube of wine gums....) Frazzled staff trying to do more than perhaps they have time for? Rubbish food with the usual ENORMOUS tasteless scones. So the safest bet was simply to have a coffee. Why do large department stores always seem to offer the same wizened up rubbish grub? Sort yourselves out John Lewis......

I have been going to this John Lewis for a few years now and usually use my cake and hot drink voucher each time. Today I decided to have some lunch (fish and chips) and I have to admit it was not what I expected. The food was cold and undercooked and the staff rude and extremely unhelpful. They just couldn't hide the fact they obviously did not want to be at work... Hopefully it was a one off.....

Went to the 'Restaurant' for a quick snack as a treat before continuing our shopping, for three of us the cost of £25 for three rolls, a cappuccino & two 'iced' mochas is a total joke. The bread was obviously Saturdays as hard & the Iced mochas had no ice were warm & tasted like warm coffee. Something has happened as this was a great place to go for a snack, the prices weren't cheap but you didn't feel ripped off, the staff have changed which isn't surprising but not one smile ???........ at 1PM on a Sunday you would of struggled to of found a table in the past, now you struggle to see people, I'm guessing the catering has been put to an outside Company who just want profit?, well good luck as you've just lost three more customers thank god the general shopping experience is still good !!

We used to stop off for lunch at A Place to Eat whilst shopping in John Lewis. Sadly they stopped serving omelettes and crepes and now there's only a choice of soup, one hot meal or a few pre-made sandwiches for lunch or a hot drink and cake. My scone today was undercooked when I cut in to it. It's expensive for what you get and no longer part of our shopping trip. We'll visit elsewhere in the future.

We looked forward to a re-visit to the Solihull John Lewis Place to Eat, but came away hungry and disappointed. On our previous visits staff had been keen to tell us how the cafe had responded to requests for GF foods, to show us the very nice GF cakes, and tell us how there would always be GF hot meals available. Today we found that neither soup was GF, and that we were the second couple who had enquired and been disappointed that day. We could buy GF rolls, but not a lot of point in that without the soup to go with them. There was one GF egg sandwich left, not helpful for two and rather lacking in choice. There was no apparent GF hot lunch available, and certainly the menu only suggested the egg mayonnaise roll. There were no longer any nice GF cakes, just two Honeybun bought in offerings (no offense to Honeybun as their products are excellent, but come in many more than two varieties). We nearly gave up waiting for the coffee and cake, the two girls serving could not make an impression on the queue, though they were very aware of this, very pleasant and very apologetic to each customer (non of us was complaining though, short staffing, and probably the need for a second drinks machine, was not their fault). When we did get the coffee, neither of us could drink it, it was very bitter and even two milk servings didn't make it palatable. Sorry John Lewis, there was a time when we ate here regularly, but you've just lost two customers.

I have been to my fair share of John Lewis restaurants and they are all pretty similar, same food, cakes and coffee, the implementation of the design varies and the quality of service and staff attention does too of course. The Touchwood version on a Saturday in February was pretty decent on the whole, staff were smiley and once I cleared myself a table overlooking the mall I was quite happy. We had cakes and coffees, the queue moved along quite speedily, cakes were nice but not cheap, most people seemed to be getting a free one with a voucher. One thing that most John Lewis eateries have a problem with is the cleanliness of the rather rough looking grey plastic trays and it took me a while to pull out a pristine one at Touchwood, a common problem! They are always damp too!On the whole though we had an enjoyable half an hour or so.

My wife and a friend have used restaurant at John Lewis many times and, although pretty expensive, the quality made it acceptable. On last visit I chose a Coronation Chicken baguette priced at £5.95. It only took one bite of the bread to know something was amiss. It was either stale or had not been baked properly, very heavy and doughy. I took it back to counter and exchanged for a ham & cheese, bagel type roll. This was just as inedible. By this time our friend had also tried her Coronation Chicken baguette and came to same conclusion. The money was refunded but that didn't help our lunch. I later contacted customer services and eventually a catering manager telephoned me to find out details. He lost interest once he knew our money had been refunded and suggested the bread was "organic" and some solidness was to be expected. Our next Touchwood lunch will be taken elsewhere.

You would expect a certain standard from John Lewis but when we visited the store to do some Christmas shopping and stopped for lunch we were surprised at the low standard. We both ordered the soup which had come straight out of the warmer and a lid was put onto the soup bowl. We sat at our table and expected to taste a hot tasty soup. What we had was cold and lumpy. I took both soups back and the young girl agreed the soup was cold. She checked the souped warmer with a probe to test its temperature and she told me it was several degrees below what it should be. Her solution was to get new soup bowls warm them with hot water from the tea/coffee machine and then put more soup in the bowl. She said "that should do it". I was appalled and asked to have our money back instead. Not a great experience at all. Maybe ok for a drink and a piece of cake but I certainly wouldn't go there again for a hot food. Poor show John Lewis, customers expect better, especially if you charge a premium price for your restaurant offerings.

I came yesterday with my friends for afternoon tea, it was by far the worst afternoon tea experience we’ve ever had!! I was so shocked that this awful experience came from such reputable hotel! Very unexpected! I was so looking forward for a traditional afternoon tea and I choose the hotel based on reputation and location and invited my friends to come along, I’ve initially booked for 7 and two cancelled on the day for emergency reasons, the afternoon tea was then served, it didn’t look appetising or inviting, tea cups arrived with no saucers underneath, no cups for water for water bottles!! The food was served on one of these wooden blocks which was unexpected and unappealing for the traditional afternoon tea style we were expecting, those blocks were ugly and made it hard to access the items desolated inside and made it hard to communicate with ont another as there in ur face kind of thing!! The whole desolate looked like anything but a traditional afternoon tea style! Coming to the food itself We had soggy couple of sandwiche sliced each, unappealing purple dyed salmon setting on densed pastry (why would u dye the beautiful salmon colour in that unappealing appetising way, it was awfull, we also had arancini balls with meat in the middle despite me telling them we dont want anything containing meat or pork or alcohol when I booked, they apologised and replaced it later with vege version, Scones where ice cold, not fresh and it looked and tasted like what you get in these prepackaged scones from supermarkets,, we also had runny icecrem with few diced pieces of strawberries swimming in the middle, At this point we were off and didn’t want to complete the couple of items left in the sweet section because they also looked like something u just opened from packaging and placed on a plate in a rush!! When we’re ready to pay I was told I need to pay for seven although five came and I asked for afternoon for five on arrival as two cancelled due to emergency happened at the time, no one mentioned this when I booked and it didnt sound right that I have to pay for two extra when they didn’t turn up, The restaurant manager came and told me that he had to prepare for seven and I have to pay for seven because of this, at this point I flipped and wasn’t sure what exactly was pre prepared as everything there looked like ready made supermarket quality food not a top hotel restaurant quality food, and he can see they that there was food left over which shows that wr didn’t enjoy what wr had!! He the. Said I don’t know what’s ur explanation from an afternoon trea, I then Stopped him and said I’ve been to so many in my life most in hotels and I never received this below average experince, food in other place looked artisan, made for you, prepared, inviting, appetising, opposite to what we had! He then apologised and ask me to pay for the five wr had! I’ll never come back again nor my friends will, worst food and very unprofessional restaurant manager, he’s got zero customer service and satisfaction experince!! What a shame…

Our Sunday lunch booking began poorly with poor service at the bar, however, once we were shown to our table lovely Lillie served us. What a charming young lady and very professional. The meal was lovely, the best slow cooked belly pork I have had for a while, tasty roast potatoes and veg and as much gravy as we wanted. Well done to the chef and if management are reading this Lillie is a keeper!!
