This has fast become our favourite spot for a morning coffee and cake. Whether we are sea swimming, kayaking or out on the jetskis, Joe’s Cafe is our go to spot! Welcoming staff, prompt service and incredible view. They offer vegan and gluten free options and are very accommodating of dietary requirements. Be sure to check this beach cafe out. They also do a banging paella night 🍲

Called by after a walk to old Harry rocks, very busy which is always a good sign. Ordered 2 pasties, one tea and a coffee. The girl serving was polite and helpful and said there were a “couple” of coffee orders in front of ours but to pop back. Whilst the pasties were very nice, we had finished these and I had finished my tea before the coffee arrived which kind of spoilt it. The double ice cream cones looked fab!

Cute little shack had just what we needed on a hot sunny Monday in May. Yes service is a little slow at busy times, it’s not designed for big numbers of people. The pasty I had was warm, fresh and tasty. Sandwiches were fresh prepared but packaged. Coffee is small cups. Friendly service. Convenient location.

South Beach is my most favourite beach in Dorset & Joe’s Cafe is the perfect location for a beach cafe. Joe’s Cafe is nothing much to look at, a bit of a shed on a beach with a few tables to sit at, the location however is just perfect & makes up for any “glitz” that may be missing from the premises. The cafe is rustic with basic food options. On my most recent visit I had a bacon bap & coffee. Both were ok, although perhaps a little more finesse to the bacon bap & it would be a 5 ⭐️ review. It really is a charming beach cafe.

Terrible food and incredible delays. Waiting over an hour for a sandwich with bread, ham, and cheese only was a travesty. It wasn’t toasted, or including the promised pickle or salad. Just bread and a slice of ham with cheese. Dry and plain and this took an hour. It was a beautiful sunny Sunday in October and the staff were lovely but just couldn’t manage more than 1 coffee every 5 minutes. We waited and watched several orders abandoned as it took so long. The staff said that 5 orders of drinks were abandoned, which makes sense as they all took over 30 minutes. Let my experience save you from disappointment. Just don’t bother. Not cheap, not tasty, and very very slow. The worst lunch I have had in years.

We diverted to Joe’s on the return walk from Old Harry Rocks. We received a very friendly welcome (from Joe’s mum we presumed), great tea / coffee / homemade lemonade ‘ snacks and good food too. Some nice touches like use of crockery / reusable glass jars (even if you take onto beach - minimal plastic) & strength of tea how you like it. Tables with shade / cover if inclement. Stunning view. Toilets are a short walk back up the access track. Make the effort to visit this beachside cafe, you won’t be disappointed.

We stopped here for a coffee while on a walk. The coffee was expensive and in a tiny cup. We were asked ,when ordering, whether we wanted sugar and we both said yes. Visited South Beach on a solo bike ride after finding Knoll Beach a bit too crowded for an enjoyable lunch and swim stop. Like a previous reviewer, I did have to wait a surprisingly long time for my food after finishing my fantastic mug of tea, and it was more expensive than similar choices on the National Trust beach, BUT… it was amazing to be able to get served without any queue and sit at an empty table despite it being Bank Holiday Saturday, and the food is clearly quality and home-made with interesting choices available (I had Jamaica Patty). The beach has a very laid-back “locals” homely feel so I don’t mind being patient and paying for the privilege of visiting this idyllic spot.

The novel and beautifully located Joe's cafe on the shore of South Beach in Studland is at first the ideal venue for an atmospheric dining experience. Our first visit had only been marred by slow service and small portions for a not so small bill. We were invited by friends to join them for a second visit for Josey's Friday Paella night at £17.50 per head. Diners have to take their own drinks as there is no licence on this beach front collection of wooden benches. We had a booking for 6.30 and by 7pm all the tables were full. Thankfully we'd taken some nibbles to while away the time as dinner didn't arrive until 9pm! By this time, some diners on adjacent tables were past the ability to eat! The paella was delivered on paper plates and was an amorphous solid stodge, with my own containing one small prawn, one mussel and a small piece of chicken glued within a solid 'risotto'.. Most of our party left more than half of their meal and the final insult came when we were charged 'corkage' (a new introduction) for bringing our own drink to a non-licenced public beach. Josey could have taken the opportunity to make a real long-term attraction out of her permission to trade here but instead appears to be trying to make a year's income out of a few short summer months irrespective of future years - at the expense of her customers enjoyment. Despite the amazing location our experience of the paella night was disappointing. Basically we arrived at 6.30 for 7 as instructed but the food was not served until almost 9. We had exactly the same experience last year. Why don't Joe's cafe start cooking the paella 90 minutes earlier?? When the food did eventually arrived it was pretty average paella. At £17 per head this was definitely overpriced. Sorry but despite the beautiful location we simply cannot give a good review for the paella night and we will not be returning in future.

We stopped for lunch after making the coastal walk from Swanage to Old Harry’s Rocks. The location by the beach was perfect as we wanted to swim as well. The order was taken promptly but they then had issues with card payments as they were reliant on a flaky mobile signal. There was then quite a long wait and I could hear them warning new customers that there could be a 30 minute wait for food. There were two staff so I’m not sure whether the issue was the volume of orders or something else. When the food did arrive it was all of higher quality than we expected. This included bacon rolls, halloumi rolls, a burger and very impressive salads (both the volume and the presentation so maybe we were responsible for the 30 minute wait). We’d definitely go back if we were in the area.

Shame about the service. Sunny Sunday in summer and only one member of staff there simultaneously trying to take orders and cook the food - madness. Ordered some food (before it was apparent there was only one member of staff there). Waited. Went back to the counter and asked if the order was on the way, told it was. Waited. Waited. Long queue. Someone ordered food, I said they might want to know they could be waiting half an hour for it. Was berated by the person in the cafe. A couple of people in the queue chipped in and said I had not been rude. I had literally been standing there waiting. Yes it is difficult for one person to be taking orders and cooking the food. But usually a person in that situation tells people when they order food they may be waiting more than 20 minutes for it. (Which you would know as you know how many orders are waiting to be cooked). I've not been anywhere where it took 30 minutes for butties. Please either provide adequate staffing, or at least encourage staff to tell people when an order they are placing will take more than 20 minutes to prepare. It is a great location but if your staff are stressed and berating customers people can go to the other places by that beach.

Went for the Paella night for a family meal following a recommendation however bar the amazing surroundings the Paella was very disappointing. At £17 per head you expect a lot more and we all left feeling short changed.

Visited with friends for mugs of tea and was astounded at all the 'crap' around the wooden hut. The tables were not cleared and most had dried up remains of food on the plates. The girl in the hut was on her phone and did not acknowledge us - as for the scruffy guy who looks like he is 'away with the fairies'! - well he simply needs to clean his teeth and have a shower! ..he had been sitting on a table smoking and then went in the hut (without washing his hands) and picked up tea bags and put them in customer's cups! ! - total skank. This place is an absolute dump...don't touch it with a bargepole and certainly don't try eating any food there...

Popped in for breakfast - limited choice but decided on a small bacon sandwich. Small indeed it was - half a small baguette with one rasher of bacon. That said, it was nice (as long as you’re not really hungry or you’d better pay another £2.50 for the other half!). Great views, lovely bay.

Slap on the beach with amazing views to Old Harry and the other direction to Shell Bay, this simple wooden shed is a great place for a drink and a cake. Easy to walk to from the coast path this is well worth a brief detour. Simple fare but it is more about the position.

This is a very basic cafe at the furthest point of Studland Beach from the ferry. It’s very peaceful on a calm warm day. I had a wonderful bacon roll and drink while walking on the coastal path. Menu is limited but during the summer it opens at 7.30am which is a bonus for this part of the world

Away from the better known Knoll and Shell bay, at the end of a little hidden away track is South beach. A beautiful, secluded little curve of sand and shingle, backed by cliffs and weathered old well loved beach huts. Safe, warm shallow water for paddling and bathing, sometimes the beach is a bit shingly, sometimes its seaweedy, according to what the tides offer or take away. There are boats upturned along the way, old lobster pots, a heap of donated buckets and spades and peace. On this beach is perched Joe's cafe. A smallish, weathered wooden hut selling ice cream, drinks and hot and cold snacks and, in season, does evening meals and paella evenings. If you're looking for all sorts of all singing, all dancing menu variations, slick service, instant gratification and service for the allergy and intolerance stricken, you may be better off going elsewhere, it is a tiny place and couldn't possibly be expected to carry the full range of specialist goods demanded. For those who want a most beautiful little place that brings back timeless memories of a less rushed and demanding way of life, this is for you. For those who insist on a high level of service, to be treated like visiting Royalty, who want "authentic" experiences with Disney effects, sod off elsewhere and go to Benidorm, this is a place for connoisseurs of a timeless beauty of a bygone age. Joe's Cafe is a gem, leave it as such. Its run by real people, leave them be, theyre doing a fantastic job. Bought my fifteen year old gloomy goth granddaughter here. Shes had problems and is strictly one syllable at a time. By her first visit, she was addicted to Joe's hot chocolate and honeycomb ice cream, but still tightly Wrapped in layers of black. By the end of the holiday, she was running up and down in her swimsuit, pretending to be a lobster and singing "Dolphin Boy" at the top of her lungs....

We stopped off for a coffee and hot chocolate whilst the kids played on the beach. The free to borrow toys were a great hit with the kids to make sandcastles. Lots of seating, fresh clean water for the dog. Only disappointment was they had run out of cake but that goes to show how busy they are and what a great place it is! Perfect place to chill out with gorgeous views across Studland Bay.

Haven’t been for a long time. Decided to meet some family who were holidaying in the area and was not disappointed. Will definitely be back as food and service was on point. We had mixed grills which were advertised at 24oz and certainly met that with high quality well cooked meats. The chunky chips were crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. My wife said the lasagne was one of the best she has had. So whilst we haven’t been here for years l, we will be changing that to revisit again soon!

We have recently attended two Sunday carveries under the new management. Our first experience was the trial carvery day and the second was two weeks later. We enjoyed the first carvery (the meat and potatoes being particularly good), but some of the vegetables on that occasion weren't so good. However, our second carvery food experience was markedly better. The turkey, beef and gammon joints were all well-cooked, the meats were succulent and tender and the portions generous. On the second occasion, the vegetables were also well cooked and there was a good selection. The staff are friendly and pleasant, but the ‘front of house’ could be better organised, although to be fair one member of staff said that they were trying different “meet and greet” options on the day. Hopefully this will also improve as experience is gained. After seeing very mixed reviews since the pub changed hands earlier this year, it is great to see a good carvery returning to the village. Give it a try and help support your local pub. We will definitely be back.

By far the best pub in Dorset. We have been coming here for the last 3 years and it never fails! The staff are so friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The atmosphere is cosy and warm and the decor is traditional but well maintained. If you want a cosy pub/restaurant in a quaint English village, you need to try this place. The roast dinners are great too. Huge portions! It includes everything...yorkshire pudding, roasties, stuffing, loads of meat and a wide selection of vegetables with delicious gravy. It all tastes very fresh. The desserts are amazing too. The sticky toffee pudding is to die for!!! We are going again in a couple of weeks for another roast...can't wait! If you dine there over Xmas they do an amazing raclette with pulled pork and crispy chips...delicious and highly recommend! This place is definately one to add to your 'must visit' list :)
