Had a great time here, was just as Steve Allen described on his LBC show. We'll be back again soon. Went again on the 10th August, they remembered us! 😆 Staff were great especially camp Louis and constable Riley. Food was excellent again 😋

"We arrived at 4:45 pm. We were not told that the menu for the fixed price was available and we ended up paying way too much for quite a simple meal of a burger and chips. I don’t think it’s good value. I think it’s changed. I’ve been coming to Joe Alan‘s now for about seven years and I think the menu has gone far too much than the chips and burger route, which is a shame ." They also add on a 15% service charge, which is very difficult to opt out of ! The staff were lovely generally, and the location is great for Covent Garden, but I won’t be coming back

This has been my favourite restaurant for about 30 years. I busy less now as I’m not in London anymore. It’s slightly less ‘characterful’ than it was in Exeter Street with the pianist and the resting actors. But this is still my favourite. Good food (American) and cocktails. I had my first ever Caesar salad here 30 odd years ago and my first NY cheesecake.

Horrible place, service was appalling the manager is snotty and confrontational, I have NEVER been in such a poor restaurant. They claim this steak is acceptable and on top charge a service charge for it What!! When I challenge it the manager was very aggressive and when I asked if he had seen the steak he said NO… why would you not check it when a customer complains… AVOID this down market place.

What a terrible place. The food is overpriced and terrible. My steak was 90% fat and when I complained they just said”it’s a Ribeye”. Clearly they haven’t ever had a Ribeye before as that’s NOT what one looks like. When I challenged them the snotty aggressive manager, got VERY confrontational even threatening me. When I asked if he actually saw the state of the steak he said NO! Has to be one of the worst restaurants in the UK ! Avoid.

I have visited Joe Allen’s on many occasions over 40 years, often for birthday meals or celebrations, sometimes with a group or just for lunch on my own. After a break of some time this was my first visit to the new location. Whatever little nostalgia I may have felt for the old cellar bar was soon dispelled by the ambience of the new venue. The staff and the service were unrecognisable, in a very good way, the food delicious and the cocktails fabulous. The staff were attentive and prompt without being obsequious or suffocating, and their generosity providing a complimentary cocktail and making an old man’s birthday meal so memorable was wonderful. Of course, I shall return, perhaps not as often as I would like to, but as frequently as I am able.

Came as a group of three with a friend from outside of London. We arrived without a booking and were sat promptly in the dining room. The decor was very reminiscent of an nyc restaurant and had some genuine charm. The food was good on the whole; the chicken wings were incredible but the fish cake did leave something to be desired in terms of texture (still tasty though). The menu seemed to cater for a wide range of people making it a good choice for a larger group meal. Our server Louis made our night and was consistently friendly and outgoing across the whole meal. Overall very good and will probably be back.

Love the decor and atmosphere of this restaurant. It's a decent location too in the centre and easy to find. The service was prompt and waitor and waitress were attentive. The food was good, but just a bit overpriced. £25 for a jumbo hot dog, which, although it was lovely, it wasn't worth £25. The shrimp burger wasnt too bad, again just overpriced for what it was. The Mac and cheese was a hit and tasted amazing. The BBQ sauce was really nice too. I tried a blood orange soda which I didn't like, it was like sparkling water with orange flavoring and again way too overpriced at £5 for a small hiball glass. Overall, even though I felt it was a bit overpriced, I'd probably return to try the different dishes, and defo go back for the Mac and cheese! Oh and the fries were nice too! We didn't manage to eat everything but we did take it away with us.

Visiting Joe Allen's in London recently was like stepping back in time for me. Growing up around the original venue in the late '70s and '80s, Joe Allen's wasn't just a restaurant; it was a backdrop to numerous fond memories. Understandably, its closure was a heartfelt loss. However, the rebirth of Joe Allen's in its new guise was a delightful surprise that I approached with a mix of excitement and apprehension. The new location has managed to capture the essence of the original Joe Allen's, albeit in a slightly smaller space. It still feels like walking into a treasure trove of theatrical history, with walls adorned with captivating posters and photographs that speak volumes of its rich legacy. This ambiance, so characteristic of Joe Allen's, sets a nostalgic yet vibrant scene for dining. The menu at Joe Allen's remains impressive, offering a lovely variety that caters to different tastes. The prawn cocktail, a standout for me, featured some of the largest prawns I've encountered in recent times—a testament to the quality Joe Allen's strives to maintain. Across the board, the food was very good, hitting all the right notes in terms of flavour and presentation. Service at Joe Allen's is exemplary, blending professionalism with warmth in a manner that makes guests feel both valued and relaxed. It was particularly heartwarming to see a few familiar faces from the original restaurant, embodying the continuity of Joe Allen's spirit and tradition. This human connection adds a unique layer to the dining experience, making it feel personal and genuine. Joe Allen's has always been synonymous with the theatre, and its current iteration retains this cultural synergy, making it an ideal spot for pre-theatre meals or post-show drinks and dinner. This aspect, combined with the restaurant's timeless appeal, ensures that Joe Allen's remains a staple in London's dining and cultural scene. Reflecting on my recent visit, it's clear that Joe Allen's continues to be a venue not just for dining but for creating memories. It's a place where stories unfold and good times are had, much like they were in the past. The restaurant has successfully bridged its historical charm with contemporary dining, making it a must-visit for both longstanding fans and new patrons alike. For me, the experience was a beautiful homage to the past, filled with reminders of the many happy moments spent within its walls. Joe Allen's, once again, proved to be a place where good stories come to life.

So disappointing. I have been going to JA for 25 years but last night was nothing like previous experiences. We were given a table for 4 initially despite being 6. The maitre D' was fab and did move us but unfortunately the rest of the evening followed suit. The bar was overwhelmed and drinks were so slow that our food arrived well before an aperitif. The kitchen clearly had its act together and the food came out quickly. The floor staff seemed a bit headless except for the older seasoned waiters. A manager cleared our table eventually. We waited again for drinks that we wanted with food. It was a poor experience. It was a real shame as we took some overseas friends telling them what a great place it was. I would think twice about going back.

Disappointed. Wanted to go to Joe Allen’s for ages so booked this evening to eat before the theatre. I booked for 6pm but it was after 6.20 when we were finally shown to a table and even that was only because I asked what was happening. We had to make quick choices and then eat at speed. When the lacklustre waiter cleared our plates he asked if we wanted anything else in a tone so jaded that we actually laughed. We said we’d look at the menu but that we didn’t have a lot of time. He never came back so we sought someone out, got the bill and legged it, arriving in our theatre seats two minutes before curtain up. Felt cynical and disinterested, shame because the food was good. We won’t be going again sadly - £130 for two courses and two drinks felt harsh after the lack of care we were shown. Sorry, Joe Allen, you need to do a lot better.
