Now this is what I call a bowl of soup. The tastiest chicken and rice soup I've ever had. So filling unfortunately I had no room for a tasty toastie or any of the cakes on display. This welcoming cafe in the pretty village of Kirkmichael in South Ayrshire is well worth the drive. Just 20 mins from Ayr.

This cafe is one of our favourite stops for refreshments when we are out cycling. We always receive a very warm welcome and the food is delicious. Coffee, filled rolls, soup and a variety of cakes and pastries are always well received by our group. Rocky road is the best I've tasted anywhere. Highly recommended. You won't be disappointed.

This was an Italian Night, the first of a number of planned one off theme nights for this excellent community enterprise. It was very enjoyable from start to finish - wonderful food, with friendly, welcoming and efficient staff. Thanks to all concerned. Looking forward to the next one. Meanwhile, the shop and cafe are an asset to the village. If you're looking for a cafe in a picturesque village, or if you're just passing through, you'll be made very welcome. The cafe serves light lunches, good coffee and delicious cakes. Takeaways are available - useful for travellers or anyone who happens to be working in the vicinity. There's some outside seating and cyclists are made very welcome.

We used the cafe for a Charity cycling event. The cafe and shop are run by volunteers. It's a great place to stop with seats inside if the weather is bad or plenty of space outside if the sun is shining. The volunteers do a great job. There were a lot of us to provide lunch for so slightly unusual circumstances. If you're in the area, pop in, it's worth the visit and great to support community cafes and shops.

A little gem. We were on our way back from a few days at Culzean, and in need of breakfast. We chanced on this place just as it opened. A friendly, efficient volunteer run shop and cafe, well stocked and supplying excellent breakfast rolls in amongst a selection of home bakes. Clearly well loved by the locals as well. We left with the warm glow good food and good company give you. Thank you.

Just a short drive from the holiday cottage we were staying in we found this great little shop and cafe. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. They went out of their way to please. The shop is small but stocked with fresh fruit & veg, cheese & meats, bread, milk, newspapers and all the essentials. There is also a great book exchange. Perfect place to stop and support the local community. We will be back when we are next in the area!

This is a Community Cafe and Shop in Kirkmichael Village. It's spacious, in a lovely setting with lots of outdoor seating, plenty of space indoors if the weather isn't so good. The Café and shop are run by volunteers. They do a great job, the food is very good and excellent value and they go out of their way to help. Our Cycling club stopped here on a ride in June and they did an excellent job in looking after a bunch of hungry cyclists. Well worth going out of your way for and also the satisfaction of knowing you've supported a very worthwhile community business.

Three of us had lunch in Jock's Cafe last weekend: it was delicious and inexpensive. This is a small, cosy cafe in very pretty rural surroundings. (Kirkmichael is a conservation village with lovely old houses and some nice walks round about - the ancient kirkyard with its Covenanter's grave and some seventeenth and eighteenth century headstones is well worth a visit!) Jock's cafe is part of a community shop and it's a very welcoming place with lots of local produce. The cafe serves light lunches and snacks, home made soup, good tea and coffee. You can sit in or order sandwiches and rolls to take away if you want to picnic elsewhere. The home baking is pretty historic too - luscious chocolate cake, tray-bakes of all kinds, fluffy home made scones, soda bread, all made in store. You can buy some cakes to take home with you - and you'll almost certainly want to!

A great evening. Beautifully prepared and served meal. The colours and positioning of the vegetable selection, the carefully cooked food, the wide choice of menu, the attentive service, the cosy ambience. What a lovely evening. I would recommend highly to anyone interested in giving it a try.

Beautifully presented hotel and restaurant. This was our first visit to Cairn Lodge for a family dinner. We were unfortunately disappointed by the standard of food, particularly the ribeye steaks. Fillet steaks looked amazing, however the ribeyes appeared to be sourced from a different supplier, lacking flavour and being overcooked. It would have been appreciated if someone had inquired about our main course, as we would have shared our thoughts. I sensed that the staff may have been hesitant to engage with us after serving the steaks, likely due to their awareness of the quality issues.

It pains me to write this review as I had high expectations. This was a 90th Birthday meal for my mother who had fond memories of lands of loyal. On arrival we were not welcomed we took ourselves in and sat in the cosy lounge. A young auburn haired lady came up to our party and said "do you want a drink !" Very abruptly and without the hint of a smile like we were all a bother to her. Drinks arrived with the food Menus and then around 3 minutes they came back to take the order we asked for more time which was answered with a tut! Anyhow ordered our meal and were taken through to dining room no water offered we had to ask. No wine list had to ask. No drinks offered with our meal had to ask. Then some of our party were still eating their starter when the waiters removed them to bring the main course shocking! A rest between courses would have been nice. There was a shortage of wine glasses had to ask again! Dishes were removed from the table while some people were still eating. It really was like Faulty Towers ,staff did not appear to have been trained in customer service. Lastly we relaxed back in the lounge and ordered more wine, which arrived warm ! Asked the waitress for a cold bottle to which she replied they had none but would put the bottle in the freezer!!! This was meant to be a memorable experience for my mothers 90th, we did complain and asked to speak to a manager but was told they were not in the hotel that night there was no management! Considering this was costly as taxis from Dundee and back and mediocre food was very disappointing
