This coffee shop has been here for a while now and we’ve never been until now despite living in close proximity. We weren’t sure what to expect as it looks a bit like a furniture shop from the outside despite the signage. Well let me tell you, looks can be deceiving!! We had the afternoon tea for 2. This was booked in advance. On arrival we were shown to our table which had a table cloth on (other tables did not), this was a nice touch. The afternoon tea comes with a pot of tea or coffee. We had one tea and one coffee. The coffee wasn’t as good as would be expected for a coffee shop. The tea was good. We were served a platter of delicious cakes and sandwiches which were well presented and tasted as good as they looked. The cakes were very nice and were clearly of the proper home made variety! I didn’t make them aware of my dietary requirements upon booking so sandwich fillings for me were limited. We couldn’t eat it all as there was just so much! It was too nice to leave it and when asked we were provided with a tub to take the leftovers home in. It would of been nice if we were given the option of choosing which cakes to have with our afternoon tea. The service was informal and very friendly. It was quite busy and there was a nice atmosphere. We will return!

Having been given a voucher for my birthday to Joanne’s for afternoon tea I was unsure what to expect. It was amazing from start to finish. The tea rooms were quirky with interesting things for sale aswell as the food. My friend was gluten free and had phoned ahead and was presented by a beautiful cake stand with everything she could eat, looked wonderful. My cake stand arrived and the variety of sandwiches and cakes I had was so appealing and very tasty, coleslaw and crisps were served with beautiful china for the tea. The staff were attentive and really friendly, nothing was too much trouble, wonderful visit.

I have been several times to sit in and take away. The food is first class. Home baking is missing in so many places these days it's refreshing to visit Joanne's. It's very clean, the staff are very friendly and there is plenty of variety on the menu. I love the ice creams currently being served in the waffle cones. Well worth a visit or handy for takeaway food, you can even buy fresh farm eggs!

I visited the coffee shop today for the first time with my friend and 2 children. The decor is beautiful all vintage themed. We had a beautiful home made quiche with salad and bread roll and a gorgeous lemon and poppy seed cake for dessert. There was a large selection of desserts on display to choose from. I will definitely be returning and cant wait to try the afternoon tea :)

My friend visited the other day. Was served Mouldy Cake , complete with a green fur coat ! When she spoke to the lady in there - was offered an apology & another cake - still had to pay the total bill. Not very good customer relations. Dont think i will bother

I've been here for tea and cake with my Gran and also on my birthday for cake for breakfast! The spelling and grammar errors on the menus are a little annoying to me (sorry!) but they don't matter because the food and service is lovely!

We stopped here for a late breakfast having spotted it from the main road on our way from Doncaster to Thorne. What a find.We entered a very inviting, large room-very pleasing decor-French, shabby- chic. Ordered a small breakfast and full English, both served with toast, and 2 large coffees.Very efficiently served.Great tasting sausages.Well cooked thicker-sliced bacon.Nothing was too much trouble and all for £14.80-well worth it-could not fault anything and have added this lovely cafe to my contacts list.If only more cafes were like this.

We had been here once before under a previous management, when we thought the food was A. a bit pricey and B. a bit pretentious. Yesterday's experience was very different. The outside area when we walked up from the car park needed a bit of a clean, especial as the compound for litter is in full view and was full to the top of cartons and other rubbish. It wasn't a good first impression but we forgot all about it when greeted by a lovely member of staff, (Maisie?) who was very welcoming. Our table was in one of the small dining areas off the main bar area. We had a little wander around after we had eaten and the whole downstairs is very nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. Every member of staff we met was friendly, helpful and able to deal with our requests. We ordered two starters and mentioned that the third member of our party might be allowed to share. As a result, the waitress brought a third plate. The starters - fish cakes and ham terrine - were very nice indeed, although, in retrospect, I should have just had a main course, as the portions were quite generous. All three of us had the Barnsley Chops for a main and they did not disappoint. However, they were served in a shallow bowl and I would have preferred a proper dinner plate. It made cutting the meat from the bone quite difficult. We also had a side order of cauliflower cheese and it was enough for all three of us to share. Everything was very nicely cooked and presented. Dessert was the hazelnut cheesecake, which was pleasant, if a little bland. Very good coffee the end the meal. All in all, a very nice experience and I would recommend 1903 for a special lunch out.
